In Tony Award and Pulitzer Prize winner John Patrick Shanley's TENNESSEE, a wannabe musician seeking an escape plan and a glimpse at his future approaches a dissatisfied woman who's blessed, and possibly cursed, with the power of foresight.  The audio play stars Oscar nominee Timothée Chalamet (our audio production of MISADVENTURE, Dune, Beautiful Boy, Call Me By Your Name, Lady Bird, and Shanley's Prodigal Son on Broadway) and Caitlin FitzGerald (“Succession,” “Masters of Sex," It's Complicated).  Stay tuned after the play for a spirited behind-the-scenes conversation with playwright/director John Patrick Shanley (BANSHEE, LAST NIGHT IN THE GARDEN I SAW YOU, Doubt, Outside Mullingar), Caitlin FitzGerald, Timothée Chalamet, and founder and consulting director Claudia Catania. Anything can happen when you leave your window open on a warm night. Tony, Oscar and Pulitzer Prize winner John Patrick Shanley (Doubt, Moonstruck, Outside Mullingar) wrote and directed this week's summer re-release about a curious banshee, a fantastical Irish spirit, who pays an ailing teacher a visit and makes him an otherworldly proposal. The mystical comedy features Geraldine Hughes (THE MANDELA EFFECT, TWO CROWS APART, Jerusalem, Gran Torino) and Aidan Quinn (“Elementary,” Michael Collins, Desperately Seeking Susan). Stay tuned after the performance for a conversation between the playwright, actors, and founder and consulting director Claudia Catania that includes a few delightfully surprising responses.

Entre el guions teatrals, destaquen ‘Savage in Limbo’ (1984), ‘Women of Manhattan’ (1986), ‘Cellini’ (2001), ‘Dirty Story’ (2003), ‘Doubt: A Parable’ (2004), o ‘Outside Mullingar’ (2014).

When the trailer for Wild Mountain Thyme was released late last year, it was immediately met with widespread criticism, not only for its delusional depictions of modern Irish life, but for its dodgy Irish accents and over the top Paddywhackery. Written and directed by John Patrick Shanley, the film is based on his play Outside Mullingar, which ran on Broadway in 2014. It stars Emily Blunt and Jamie Dornan as Rosemary and Anthony, two lonely souls who have grown up beside each other on neighbouring farms. Completing the star studded cast is Jon Hamm and Christopher Walken. After keeping us waiting for almost six months, the film was finally released to Irish audiences on April 30th. We invited comedian Erin McGathy and journalist Jenn Gannon to watch the movie and share their thoughts and observations with Róisín Ingle on today’s episode.

Today I get to sit down with actor and director of a powerful play, On the Exhale. When a senseless act of violence changes her life forever, a liberal college professor finds herself inexplicably drawn to the very weapon used to perpetrate the crime – and to the irresistible feeling of power that comes from holding life and death in her hands. Peering down the barrel of a uniquely American crisis, she begins to suspect that when it comes to gun violence, we're all part of the problem.Maria Elena Maurin has been in the theater for 21 years and is currently working on a production of On the Exhale directed by Ellen Honig for the Rhinebeck Theater Society. She's played other equally challenging roles depicting the female experience in some of her most difficult situations such as her performance in Still about birthing a stillborn child. She has trained at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts, NYC and at the Sande Shurin Acting Studio, NYC and Woodstock. Her recent theater credits include: Arms and the Man, Still, Outside Mullingar and Brilliant Traces with the Performing Arts of Woodstock and A Turn of The Screw with Kaaterskill Actors Theater. When not acting, she's working as a massage therapist and a child care provider.Ellen Honig is a theater director with 35 years of directing experience beginning with The Town Players in New York. She continued directing for multiple companies in the Hudson Valley. For The Rhinebeck Theatre Society: 1776 The Musical, A Little Night Music,Equivocation, Assassins, Copenhagen, and Mary Poppins. With The Cocoon Theatre of  Rhinebeck and now Poughkeepsie, most recently: My Simone and The Little Years. The Producer's Perspective Podcast with Ken Davenport

Douglas Hughes is an American theatre director. He has directed both Off-Broadway and on Broadway. Hughes worked for 12 years as the associate artistic director of Seattle Repertory Theatre, from 1984 to 1996. As a Resident Director of the Roundabout Theatre, he has directed many plays for the Roundabout, including The Big Knife and Mrs. Warren's Profession. He directed Doubt: A Parable Off-Broadway and on Broadway, for which he won the 2005 Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Director of a Play, and the 2005 Tony Award for Best Direction of a Play. Other directing credits include Death Takes a Holiday, Inherit the Wind, Outside Mullingar, The Father, and Junk: The Golden Age of Debt.  What surprised me about this podcast, was how Doug didn’t start off wanting to be a Director or even in the theater at all (despite the theatrical heritage he comes from) . . . and how coming about his career as a last resort helped him develop even greater skills than studying it from birth. Listen in to this podcast to hear Doug talk about that, as well as: Why his research for plays gets him a lot of frequent flyer miles. How directing a play is like a lawyer trying a case. What his biggest responsibility is when working with Actors. How he gets feedback, and what he does with it, including sometimes ignoring it. How being a scientist is like being a Director. The War of Art is a terrific book by Steven Pressfield. It’s about overcoming resistance, and getting down to your business, which is the business of art. One of Steven’s key points was how you should become a “pro.” The difference between an amateur and a pro is all about the attitude of the professional, and it made me think of our own site, The Producer's Perspective Pro, which we just revamped. Two Irish farmers, Anthony and Rosemary, are deeply tied to the land. Because they grew up as neighbors, they also have deep ties to one another, but their personal connections are not all positive. Brian F. O’Byrne and Debra Messing are the two farmers in John Patrick Shanley’s play “Outside Mullingar.” Family events put the two on a collision course – and since this is a romantic comedy written by the author of the film “Moonstruck,” the outcome isn’t much in question. But is that resolution of romantic tension worth the journey? New York Times theater critic Charles Isherwood tells us more about the play – and answers that question.
