schoolingstruggle@gmail.com Brian Fortier joins the show to share his insights on turning failures into successes throughout the journey of life. He also shares his favorite motivational poem, titled... "DON'T QUIT" When things go wrong, as they sometimes will,When the road you're trudging seems all uphill,When the funds are low and the debts are high,And you want to smile, but you have to sigh,When care is pressing you down a bit,Rest if you must, but don't you quit. Life is queer with its twists and turns,As every one of us sometimes learns,And many a fellow turns aboutWhen he might have won had he stuck it out.Don't give up though the pace seems slow –You may succeed with another blow. Often the goal is nearer thanIt seems to a faint and faltering man;Often the struggler has given upWhen he might have captured the victor's cup;And he learned too late when the night came down,How close he was to the golden crown. Success is failure turned inside out –The silver tint in the clouds of doubt,And you never can tell how close you are,It might be near when it seems afar;So stick to the fight when you're hardest hit –It's when things seem worst that you must not quit. ~John Greenleaf Whittier --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/peter-driscoll/message
This is a special episode recorded live in Bozeman at the premiere of the important new short film titled "Good Fire, Bad Fire: Inside the Race to Restore America's Forests." - On the evening of May 16, 2024, around 200 folks gathered at Bozeman's Museum of the Rockies to watch the 15-minute film, which captures the breathtaking beauty of our nation's forests and delves into the urgent crisis threatening their existence. Following the screening, I moderated a panel discussion featuring an extremely impressive line-up of some of the nation's leading conservationists and forest-health experts. The on-stage conversation gave us the opportunity to dig deeper into some of the issues raised by the film, and glean valuable insights into the importance of responsible forest management from ecological, recreational, economic, and policy perspectives. - “Good Fire, Bad Fire” was directed by filmmaker Eric Ian, and produced by the team at the Property and Environment Research Center, better known as PERC, who also hosted the event. The panelists you'll hear in this episode are: Brian Ferebee, Chief Executive of Intergovernmental Relations for the U.S. Forest Service Randy Newberg, renowned conservationist and Host of Fresh Tracks and Hunt Talk with Randy Newberg Morgan Varner, Director of Fire Research at Tall Timbers Corey Lewellen, District Ranger for the Bozeman Ranger District Hannah Downey, Policy Director at PERC Brian Yablonski, CEO of PERC (and a past Mountain & Prairie podcast guest) I could've spoken with each of these experts individually for several hours, but having them all share a stage and combine their wide range of expertise into a single conversation was a powerfully educational experience. - While you can listen to this episode on its own, I would strongly encourage you to first spend 15 minutes watching “Good Fire, Bad Fire” as a primer. There's a link in the episode notes and it's embedded on the episode webpage. - I'd also encourage you to check out the episode notes for a full list of all of the topics we discussed, which included everything from a history of fire as a resource management tool to the Forest Service's evolving approach to wildfires and forest health. We talked about forest health's impact on hunting and fishing, the pros and cons of policies such as the ESA and NEPA, on-the-ground success stories, optimistic good news about the future of forest health, and much more. There were tons of resources mentioned, all of which are listed and linked on this episode's webpage. - A huge thanks to Brian Yablonski and the team at PERC for creating such an important film and for inviting me to participate in such an enlightening conversation. I hope you enjoy the film as much as I did, and I hope that this discussion provides some new insights into the all-important issue of forest health in the American West. --- WATCH THE FILM: "Good Fire, Bad Fire" Full episode notes and links: https://mountainandprairie.com/good-fire-bad-fire/ --- TOPICS DISCUSSED: 3:15 - Introductions 6:15 - Where the USFS stands right now on its approach to wildfire and forest health (Brian F) 8:45 - A hunter and public lands advocate's perspective on the state of the forests (Randy) 10:30 - A brief history of how fire became a resource management tool in the US and before the US (Morgan) 13:45 - Discussing obstacles to the forest management work described in Good Fire, Bad Fire (Corey) 18:00 - How we can streamline large federal processes like the ESA and NEPA (Hannah) 21:00 - Why PERC became involved in this forestry work (Brian Y) 23:15 - What is preventing ideal progress on forest management in Montana (Brian F) 27:30 - How Randy would recommend hunters and anglers take action and advocate for forest health 31:00 - Discussing how lessons in forest management from the Southeast can impact forestry in MT (Morgan) 35:15 - On-the-ground success stories in forest management (Corey) 39:45 - An example of fire outpacing procedure, and the impacts that can have (Hannah) 41:15 - How discussions of conservation and forestry are received by elected officials (Hannah) 43:00 - Predictions for the next five years of forest management (Morgan and Randy) 47:15 - Brian Y's optimistic take on the state of forest stewardship --- ABOUT MOUNTAIN & PRAIRIE: Mountain & Prairie - All Episodes Mountain & Prairie Shop Mountain & Prairie on Instagram Upcoming Events About Ed Roberson Support Mountain & Prairie Leave a Review on Apple Podcasts

See pictures and read more on materiallyspeaking.comOn 15th April, 2019 a catastrophic fire broke out in Notre Dame Cathedral. Parisians watched in horror as the spire fell and most of the roof was destroyed. In the aftermath it became clear that a large area was contaminated with toxic dust and lead. The iconic building, which has dominated the Île de la Cité island in Paris since the Middle Ages, is a national symbol not only for the French but for people all over the world. President Macron pledged to build back the cathedral as it was before, and as the planned reopening in December 2024 looms, a huge office structure has mushroomed around it and 500 workers are on site daily as the team race to rebuild it.The eyes of the world are watching, but Materially Speaking has a story for our ears - the story of its sound. As a sound specialist himself, Mike Axinn was fascinated when he discovered there is a group exploring the restoration of the acoustics at Notre Dame. He approached Brian F.G. Katz and David Poirier-Quinot at the Sorbonne, and their colleague, sound archeologist Mylène Pardoen, who is co-coordinator with Brian of the scientific acoustics team assisting the reconstruction of Notre Dame, and soon we were off to Paris to hear their stories. We first met Brian and David at a restaurant and then visited their simulator inside the Sorbonne to discover more.Notre Dame has a special role in western European music's history and is generally thought of as the cradle of polyphony. Sarah was attracted to this angle as her father, Christopher Monk, was part of the Early Music movement which restored the use of the Renaissance cornett, a woodwind instrument well known in Monteverdi's music. He also made and played serpents, long snake-shaped instruments that had a central role in music that was performed in Notre Dame many centuries ago. So she approached Volny Hostiou, one of France's leading serpent players, and we were delighted when he and singer Thomas Van Essen agreed to join us in Paris for some experiments with Brian and David. We then jumped on a train to Lyon to meet with Mylène Pardoen and learn more about her work as one of the world's foremost sound archaeologists, tasked with recording the sounds made by stone masons and other artisans in their work, and re-imagining the church's soundscape at various points in its history.A key person driving the physical restoration is Pascal Prunet, Chief architect of historic monuments in France and part of the team in charge of restoring Notre-Dame. Prunet explains that their work in restoring the church has revealed many secrets about its construction and the work done by artisans. We were fortunate to hear how his team was able to discover things they never would have learned had it not been for the fire.As we obviously could not go inside Notre-Dame, Volny and Thomas then kindly arranged for us to hear them play in the Abbey of Rouen, built on a similar scale to nearby Rouen Cathedral, the abbey is famous for both its architecture and its large, unaltered Cavaillé-Coll organ. Here they talked to us about the serpent and their group Les Meslanges, showed us a serpent fresco on the ceiling of the Abbey and played in three different locations. Finally Mike takes us back to Brian and David's simulator to compare and contrast the sound of the musicians live in the Abbey of Rouen, and their simulated version of how the music would sound at different historical periods of Notre-Dame's history. Thanks also to Frédéric Ménissier who made a great video recording of our visit to the Abbaye of Rouen. You will be able to watch the result on YouTube @materiallyspeakingpodcast nearer the scheduled reopening of Notre Dame, in December 2024.Thanks and linksWe are very grateful to Brian, David, Mylène, Pascal, Volny and Thomas for giving so generously of their time and sharing their expertise and passion. Episode 47 of season 5 aired at 19h00 on 254 Nov 2022 on Rebel Rock Radio. I was worried the wifi wouldn't hold up with the load-shedding, but we made it. The show kicked off with an old TSORR favourite called 'Tres Borrachos' by Left Lane Cruiser. From there we took a listen to the perennial rock classic that is ‘Hair of the Dog. Nevada Beach were up next with a track called ‘Hollywood. Hank Decken is the main man in Nevada Beach, on guitar and vocals. We will be taking a closer look at Hank in weeks to come because there are a lot of unsung heroes in the rock ‘n' roll business and I reckon Hank may be one of them. We checked out two blues giants, Rory Gallagher and Philip Sayce, but listened to less bluesy tracks for a change. Philip may have been a bit mellow for the early stages of the show so we ramped up a gear with Black Spiders and ‘KISS Tried to Kill Me'. Going back to Philip Sayce for a second, make sure you check out the solo at the end, it proves my theory that the songs are just vehicles for solos like this. We changed pace with Black Spiders and a track called ‘KISS tried to kill Me' off their critically acclaimed (by me) album Sons of the North. The new Soilwork is a really good album and we listened to ‘Death, I Hear You Calling'. You may be aware I am a huge fan of Matthew Good Bands' early work so we took a listen to ‘Carmelina' off the Audio of Being album. Brian Fallon's ‘My Name Is the Night' kept things tidy and then we floored it with In Flames and Parkway Drive. From there we moved to an all-time South African classic by No Friends of Harry, you guessed it the one and only ‘Competition Rules'. Wilko Johnson passed away yesterday, as a RIP we played 'Going Back Home' the title track of the album he did with Roger Daltrey back in 2014. Wilko was a founder member of Dr. Feelgood with vocalist Lee Brilleaux. Dr. Feelgood were often cited as a big influence by the UK Punk era bands such as The Jam and The Clash, so we checked out both with ‘Art School' and ‘Drug-Stabbing Time'. Then it was back to the stuff like The White Stripes and The Bottle Rockets. The Bottle Rockets track 'Radar Gun' sent me off on a little tirade about the police in South Africa. We went back to South Africa for a brand new track from the uber-talented Mark Haze and then we checked out some more Diverted Disorder. The boys from the Vaal are doing good things, the album launch is this weekend. From Diverted Disorder we heard The Cars, I shit you not, The Cars on TSORR!. Why? because it's a great song, and that is why. I totally ran out of time, we squeezed in (or is it squoze :-))? Boston, Def Leppard, Iron Maiden, and a brand new track from Disturbed. We finished off with an eight min plus live epic from Black Label Society called 'Stillborn'. Thanks for listening, comments welcome, catch TSORR on the website or Facebook page. Artists featured: Left Lane Cruiser, Nazareth, Nevada Beach, Rory Gallagher, Philip Sayce, Black Spiders, Soilwork, Tremonti, KISS, Matthew Good Band, Brian Fallon, In Flames, Parkway Drive, No Friends of Harry, ZZ Top, Wilko Johnson & Roger Daltrey, The Jam, The Clash, The Cult, The White Stripes, The Bottle Rockets, Texas Hippie Coalition, Joe Lynn Turner, Black Sabbath, ACDC, Motor Sister, Killit, Mark Haze, Diverted Disorder, The Cars, Bad Company, Boston, Def Leppard, Red Beans & Pepper Sauce, Iron Maiden, Marilyn Manson, Disturbed, Black Label Society. Brian F. LaBovick was admitted to the Florida Bar in 1990 and started his career as an Honor Graduate Program inductee at the United States Department of Justice as a Federal Prosecutor. Since that time Mr. LaBovick has maintained an AV rating from Martindale-Hubbell, and been a Super Lawyer® in 2007 and a Florida Trend Legal Elite attorney in 2010 both in the Personal Injury field. He has been involved in multiple charities and community service projects over the past 30 years, and served on numerous charity boards. He is a past Director of the Palm Beach County Justice Association and a Past President of the North Palm Beach County Bar Association. Mr. LaBovick has created multiple businesses outside his law firm, including Media Maven Marketing, Legal Assist, LLC, and a national specialized medical billing company, GO-SB. Mr. LaBovick moved to Palm Beach County, Florida where he started a solo practice in 1994. The firm now has 8 attorneys and 40 office staff, and offices in Florida and Massachusetts. The firm handles serious personal injury concentrating in Maritime, travel, and Cruise boat injuries as well as workers compensation across Florida, and Social Security Disability and pip collections across the nation. What you’ll learn about in this episode: How the coming wave of non-lawyer ownership of law firms will affect the legal industry, and what pros and cons exist Why Brian doesn’t feel “doom and gloom” over the coming wave, and why looking at the precedent set in countries like England and Australia can offer guidance How the coming wave of corporation-owned firms can be compared to the birth and growth of Walmart, and why it is important to compete on more than price to survive Why consumer-based law isn’t nearly as in danger of being taken over or pushed out of business as big corporate firms What steps to take to better prepare your law firm for potential merger and acquisition opportunities What concerns Brian has about the way the state of Arizona may be implementing non-lawyer ownership of firms Why one of the key things to watch out for is the “gaming of the system” and the establishment of unethical relationships between firms and their owners What a “para-lawyer” is, and how North Carolina set the standard to allow people to exist halfway between paralegal and lawyer and still have ownership in a firm Why setting up and running your law firm like a business is going to be instrumental in navigating the future Resources: Website: www.labovick.com LinkedIn: www.linkedin.com/in/brian-labovick-40032a9/ LinkedIn: www.linkedin.com/company/labovick-law-group/ Facebook: www.facebook.com/Florida.Lawyers/ Twitter: @LaBovickLaw Additional Resources: The Mastermind Effect: https://www.pilmma.org/the-mastermind-effect/ PILMMA’s free Coronavirus Survival Kit: www.pilmma.org/free-resources/ Strategic Attorney Coach: https://www.pilmma.org/strategic-attorney-coach/ PILMMA Join Page: https://pilmma.kartra.com/page/join-pilmma

Since the mid-1990s, there has been a seismic shift in attitudes toward gay and lesbian people, with a majority of Americans now supporting same-sex marriage and relations between same-sex, consenting adults. However, support for transgender individuals lags far behind; a significant majority of Americans do not support the right of transgender people to be free from discrimination in housing, employment, public spaces, health care, legal documents, and other areas. Much of this is due to deeply entrenched ideas about the definition of gender, perceptions that transgender people are not "real" or are suffering from mental illness, and fears that extending rights to transgender people will come at the expense of the rights of others. So how do you get people to rethink their prejudices? In their book Transforming Prejudice: Identity, Fear, and Transgender Rights (Oxford University Press, 2020), Melissa R. Michelson and Brian F. Harrison examine what tactics are effective in changing public opinion regarding transgender people. The result is a new approach that they call Identity Reassurance Theory. The idea is that individuals need to feel confident in their own identity before they can embrace a stigmatized group like transgender people, and that support of members of an outgroup can be encouraged by affirming the self-esteem of those targeted for attitude change. Michelson and Harrison, through their experiments, show that the most effective messaging on transgender issues meets people where they are, acknowledges their discomfort without judgment or criticism, and helps them to think about transgender people and rights in a way that aligns with their view of themselves as moral human beings. In this interview, Dr. Michelson, Dr. Harrison, and I discuss common issues faced by transgender people, and the ideologies that contribute to anti-transgender discrimination. We then discuss three of the nine experiments conducted by Michelson and Harrison that provide empirical evidence to support the claims in their book. Lastly, we discuss potential ways to change discriminatory beliefs towards transgender people. I recommend this book for people interested in public opinion, social psychology, and LGBTQ issues. Dr. Melissa R. Michelson (@profmichelson) is Professor of Political Science at Menlo College. Dr. Brian F. Harrison is a Lecturer at the Humphrey School of Public Affairs at the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities and Founder and President of Voters for Equality. Krystina Millar is a PhD student in the Department of Sociology at Indiana University. Her research interests include gender, sociology of the body, and sexuality. I'm proud to share the mics with these two very talented guys. Evan Dinsmore (Barber to the stars) & Brian F. Henry (Award-winning Photojournalist) popped into the studio to talk some shop, professional journeys, and have some fun. Brian is sitting in with us today as a co-host so we can grill Evan in tandem... just to see if he's cool enough to sit at our lunch table. lol I've known Brian since I was about 5 years old and we've been best buds ever since. Evan came to us as a friend a little later in life, probably because we couldn't handle all of that awesome at once. Evan is a super talented barber doing what he does best from the Comrades shop in Irwin. If you're lucky enough to call even one of these dudes a friend, then the friend gods have smiled down upon you. It's a fun hang-sesh type show that should put a smile on your face and prompt you to call your BFF to catch up over a beer. Public notice and comment on rulemaking is a core requirement of the Administrative Procedure Act, and creates the administrative record on which any subsequent judicial review will be based. Yet many people (even people who take the trouble to vote) seem to think that commenting on rules is difficult or futile, and therefore don’t participate – even when they care about the outcome. This Teleforum will discuss the practical mechanics of tracking the development of rules and filing timely comments; in fact, timely filing is about the only legal requirement for getting comments onto the record. It will describe the sorts of comments that tend to be effective in persuading an agency, including comments made directly by affected small entities without professional representation. It will also explain the concept of a “Public Interest Comment” which argues, not on behalf of any particular party or cause (however worthy), but in favor of a balanced resolution of the conflicting considerations that an agency must take into account.Featuring:-- Prof. Susan Dudley, Director, GW Regulatory Studies Center and Distinguished Professor of Practice, Trachtenberg School of Public Policy & Public Administration, George Washington University-- Karen Harned, Executive Director, National Federation of Independent Business Small Business Legal Center-- Prof. Brian F. Mannix, Research Professor, Regulatory Studies Center, George Washington University

Today, another in our occasional series, Midday on Higher Education. From time to time, host Tom Hall sits down with the presidents of Maryland colleges and universities to talk about the challenges that each of their institutions face, and how those institutions are connected to the fabric of the communities in which they are located. Today Tom's guest is the Rev. Brian F. Linnane, a Jesuit priest who serves as president of Loyola University Maryland, here in Baltimore. Loyola is one of 28 Jesuit colleges and universities in the country. There are several others that are named “Loyola,” after St. Ignatius Loyola, the founder of the Jesuit order, but Baltimore was the first. Before coming to Loyola, Fr. Linnane was an associate professor of Religious Studies at the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, Massachusetts, where he later served as Assistant Dean. He has been the President of Loyola University Maryland since 2005, and as such he is one of the longest serving university presidents in Maryland. What does a Catholic education offer to young people who, as a demographic, are drifting away from the organized religion of their parents and grandparents? And how does a Catholic liberal arts education prepare students for a dynamic and changing labor market?
This episode is an important episode and it probably affects people you care deeply about, including yourself. After all, we've all been through some sort of childhood trauma. They say what doesn't kill you makes you stronger. As pervasive as domestic violence is, it's never okay. The victims aren't just those who were directly targeted by the perpetrators. The collateral damage always includes the kids even if their exposure was as a witness only. This is called childhood domestic violence or CDV. Our guest is Brian F. Martin, a successful entrepreneur who's been involved with many high profile brands in the executive level including Adweek where I'm a regular contributor, Pfizer, and Walmart. He's also a passionate advocate for children who've been affected by domestic violence. He founded an amazing nonprofit, the Childhood Domestic Violence Association, and shared his own harrowing story of growing up with domestic violence in the powerful book, Invincible. The foreword of that book was written by Tony Robbins who is also deeply affected by domestic violence. We'll be taking a deep look into the causes, effects, and solutions to this disturbing phenomenon. We'll also be talking about PTSD and trauma more broadly and how people can overcome negative experiences in their own lives. How do you work towards fulfillment and success? How do you blossom? If you've ever faced real adversity in your life or know someone who has, especially in their childhood, you got to read this episode.

Tony Award winner Kelli O'Hara is one of Broadway’s most celebrated leading ladies. Born and raised in Oklahoma, Kelli spent most of her childhood on her family’s cattle farm. A serendipitous move to another town while in high school offered Kelli a new beginning, one in which she immersed herself in the arts. She never looked back. An interest in opera began her lifelong relationship with vocal teacher Florence Birdwell. (Ms. Birdwell had taught another actress from Oklahoma, Kristin Chenoweth. Indeed it was Kristin Chenoweth who introduced Kelli to her first agent in New York City.) Small parts led to bigger ones; eventually a leading role in the national tour of "Jekyll and Hyde" followed. Kelli then made her Broadway debut as a replacement in the musical horror-drama loosely based on the novella by Robert Louis Stevenson. In her conversation with Ilana, Kelli discusses how there were times when she thought perhaps she had landed the role that would be her big break, but it was not to be. Ironically, it was a bit of luck that found her in California when the workshop of a new musical called "Light in the Piazza" was being cast. It was that workshop that led to the Lincoln Center production that made Kelli O’Hara a Broadway star. From farm girl to Tony Award winning actress, Kelli O'Hara shares her amazing story with Ilana on this episode of "Little Known Facts!" Kelli O’Hara has unequivocally established herself as one of Broadway’s great leading ladies. Her portrayal of Anna Leonowens in the critically acclaimed revival of "The King and I" recently garnered her a Tony Award for Best Leading Actress in a Musical, along with Drama League and Outer Critics nominations. In 2014, her performance as Francesca in the musical adaptation of "The Bridges of Madison County" earned her Tony, Drama Desk, Drama League, and Outer Critics Circle nominations. Also that year, she starred as Mrs. Darling in NBC’s live telecast of “Peter Pan” alongside Allison Williams and Christian Borle, and on New Year’s Eve, Kelli made her Metropolitan Opera debut in the production of "The Merry Widow" with Renee Fleming. A native of Oklahoma, Kelli received a degree in opera, and after winning the State Metropolitan Opera Competition, moved to New York and enrolled in the Lee Strasberg Institute. She made her Broadway debut in "Jekyll & Hyde" and followed it with Sondheim’s "Follies," "Sweet Smell of Success" opposite John Lithgow, and "Dracula." In 2003 Kelli committed to a production of "The Light in the Piazza" at Seattle’s Intiman Theatre. The show landed on Broadway in 2005 and earned Kelli her first Tony and Drama Desk Award nominations. She moved from one critical and commercial success to another when she joined Harry Connick on Broadway in the 2006 Tony award-winning production of "The Pajama Game," for which Kelli received Tony, Drama Desk, and Outer Critics Award nominations. Kelli starred in the Tony Award-winning revival of "South Pacific" at Lincoln Center, enrapturing audiences and critics alike with her soulful and complex interpretation of Nellie Forbush, and garnering Tony, Drama Desk, and Outer Critics Award nominations. She later teamed up with Matthew Broderick in Broadway's musical comedy "Nice Work if You Can Get it," earning Tony, Drama Desk, Drama League and Outer Critics Circle nominations, as well as the Fred Astaire Nomination for dance. Among her film and television credits are "Sex & The City 2," Martin Scorsese’s short "The Key to Reserva" opposite Simon Baker; "The Dying Gaul," "Blue Bloods" (NBC pilot), "All Rise" (NBC pilot), "Alexander Hamilton" (Maria Reynolds) starring Brian F. O’Byrne (PBS), "NUMB3RS" (CBS), "All My Children," the animated series "Car Talk," and numerous live performances on national television shows. Kelli currently resides in New York City.

Basic Trading: Second Order Greeks Question from Brian F. - My question is for Dan. I listened to the Boot Camp shows, and recently had a question about gamma. Imagine my surprise when I learned there are other secondary greeks and even tertiary greeks. What this? Are you holding some greeks up your sleeve Mr. Black hat? So my question is what are these greeks, but more importantly, who uses them and why? Does a retail mope like me need to know about these greeks? Question from Charlie C. - Do second order greeks have any relevance for retail traders? Mail Call: Listener questions and comments Question from AV56 - When is a good time to start trading options - is there any certain time of the week or year that options traders are focused on? Question from 777: How do you adjust your options trading for cheap stocks below $10 Comment from Brian F. - I went through the Options Bootcamp shows twice, and read a few books, and now have the bug for options. Have you perused the options videos on Youtube? Is it me, or are most of these people idiots? Thanks for the education on options, I now have a way to screen the real trading educators from the BS artists. Question from Max S. -I have a lot of AAPL in my IRA but I am worried about the downside potential going forward. I do not want to liquidate that position for a variety of reasons. I have some free capital in my trading account with TD. Does it make sense to potentially pick up a few AAPL puts in that account and use them as a hedge against the position in my IRA account? If I switch that trading account from TD to my IRA custodian will the firm treat those as offsetting positions? Thx for the show. Question from TJD - What os the story on using options in my IRA? Is it still legal for 2016? Comment from Matt L. - Huge fan of your shows, I have been binge re-listening to options bootcamp as I prepare for a new year of options trading, thanks! Register today for Dan's webinar, 7 Most Important Trading Tips for 2016.

Two Irish farmers, Anthony and Rosemary, are deeply tied to the land. Because they grew up as neighbors, they also have deep ties to one another, but their personal connections are not all positive. Brian F. O’Byrne and Debra Messing are the two farmers in John Patrick Shanley’s play “Outside Mullingar.” Family events put the two on a collision course – and since this is a romantic comedy written by the author of the film “Moonstruck,” the outcome isn’t much in question. But is that resolution of romantic tension worth the journey? New York Times theater critic Charles Isherwood tells us more about the play – and answers that question.
