Kane Hansen, the Founder and Managing Director of True North Lifestyle & Academy, has been someone who hasn't let his past dictate his future. He grew up in a low-income household with a single mother and multiple siblings, with his early years marked by significant challenges, including his parents' divorce and his mother's cancer diagnosis. Despite the challenges and obstacles, Kane moved through tough situations and a rollercoaster journey, which included being educated at the Original Boys' Town (now Dunlea Centre) in Sydney, a secondary school for disadvantaged youths. At Boys' Town, he learned essential life skills, practiced discipline and routine and formed his core values.   Kane's journey into the financial world was unconventional. After a series of unfulfilling jobs, he left Sydney to work in a mine in the Northern Territory. During this time, he immersed himself in financial books, upskilling and boosting his knowledge as well as moonlighting as a stock trader, gaining hands-on experience and self-education in financial management. In 2010, seeking to formalize his knowledge, he completed a Diploma of Financial Planning. This led him to leave his high-paying job to pursue a career as a financial adviser.   He quickly gained employment with a successful financial practice, where his innovative approach and client-focused strategies set him apart from the rest. After a desire to continue his progression and really help as many people as he could, he started and founded his own practice, True North Lifestyle in 2015. Through True North Lifestyle, Kane helps people from all walks of life take control of their finances and build their dream lives. His focus on smart money management and creating financial freedom resonates with many clients. His passion to make financial strategies and knowledge as accessible to as many people as possible, in 2023, he founded True North Academy, an education platform aimed at teaching everything from basic budgeting to advanced financial strategies. His goal is to improve financial literacy and empower individuals to win at the money game.   Kane has a deep gratitude for where he's come from and where he is now so as soon as he was able to, he involved himself with giving back, firstly with his old school, the Dunlea Centre (nee Boys Town) as a Foundational Board Member and also with PCYC and Project Youth. Kane's vision and ultimate goal is to build a retreat for disadvantaged youths, offering them a safe place to set clear goals, develop strong values and learn practical life skills.   As a loving fiancé and now Dad, Kane has a deep appreciation for life and continues to learn and grow. He has just authored his own book, "Find Your True North" and shares within this episode many of his reflections on life, his passion for helping youth and his knowledge and experience in finance. Episode 19 Talking Real Estate with John Gibson is The Master Trainer Johnny Lewis. Johnny Lewis on Real Estate, the early days, some of the journey and of course boxing. Born at Bankstown Hospital in 1944 (although claims to be a Queenslander - more on that to follow as you will hear) a place he adores and hard to extract from, the son of Marge and Alfie Lewis. There have been thousands and thousands of kids walk through the doors of Police Boys Clubs across Australia now known as the PCYC. Johnny Lewis OAM has impacted on so many of these young lives, whether personally or sometimes indirectly, suffice to say, zero doubt has saved many young lives or steered young Australians to a better life path whether via sport or with his simple yet profound, sometimes strong, but always caring words of wisdom. Lewis's headquarters for so many years The Factory Of Champions, the iconic, Newtown Police Boys Club. Many very respected professionals have called Lewis the most connected man in Australian sport! Often referred to as the Godfather of Australian boxing. Lewis was inducted into the Canastota Boxing Hall Of Fame in New York back in 2006 the very same year awarded the Order Of Australia Medal. On the real estate front, it's fair to say interest rate increases are brutal however our industry leader John Gibson has ‘cautious optimism' for buyers and investors but doesn't side step the issue that there could be difficult times for some in the property market, a must listen. Enjoy Talking Real Estate with John Gibson and our special guest the great Johnny Lewis.

We're talking Real Estate with John Gibson Managing Director, Locate Negotiate and our co-host Mark Warren. Our special guest is none other than James Dack, Real Estate superstar, turned technology entrepreneur. What a journey of blood, sweat and tears! The high life was an ocean away from where he grew up, the depressed, hardscrabble streets of Sydney's inner-city suburb of Woolloomooloo, where his family moved in 1973, when Dack was 13. He was the eldest child, five years ahead of Stephen, eight years older than Alison. Losing his beautiful Mum Florence, at just 52, James just at 14, effectively becomes the man of the house. James and Stephen (a superb amateur boxer and distinguished Rugby League player) literally call the Woolloomooloo PCYC home, his attachment and commitment to the PCYC is legendary and ongoing to this day where James remains on the PCYC Board. In the late eighties, Dack started in the real estate industry as co-founding partner of McGrath Real Estate. He reaped a bounty in the glory years of the 1990's and well into the new century. Television bosses Ryan Stokes and David Gyngell, one time Qantas Chief Geoff Dixon and former Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull all bought and sold through Dack's earthy Australian pitch. The industry recognised a star and awarded Dack its trophy for being the nation's leading real estate agent several years running. He was the top sales person with McGraths 19 years in a row, yet Dack doesn't like the term sales person!? Dack's work for charity and community is just simply phenomenal and well documented all rooted in his humble upbringings on those streets around Woolloomooloo, where the rich and poorer families were separated by a pitching wedge. James is happily married to Mary Cowin, the daughter of Billionaire Mr Jack Cowin of Hungry Jacks fame, and so we had to ask THE REAL BIG QUESTION, and that is, “BIG MAC or Whopper?!” Enjoy Talking Real Estate with John Gibson.

Jay Jay Roca and Mark Warren present RocKD Rnd 14 ‘FROM THE HOOD’ with Garth Wood and dedicated to the PCYC and R U OK supporting mental health awareness. In 2010 Wood became the first winner of The Contender Australia after being offered a lifeline by his mentor ‘The Master Trainer’ Johnny Lewis OAM. Wood wins the series with what he calls, his ‘best display of boxing’ over the very talented and highly touted Kariz Kariuki. BUT THAT’S NOT THE STORY! This is the story of a young man faced with extreme challenges outside the ring at a time when family and friends were deeply concerned as to where Garth Wood was going and fearing the worst. Garth Wood looked in the ‘accountability mirror’, climbed off the canvas and - in doing so - created history in an incredible triumph over adversity. Wood learnt his craft on the streets and took that experience into the only squared ring on planet Earth.Garth Wood is now heading up the Balmain PCYC as head trainer with a smile on the dial and excited at his next opportunity, an opportunity to provide any young kid who might be less fortunate, perhaps off the rails, a chance to learn boxing but more so life skills and a sense of community. Suffice to say Garth is determined to change young lives.Garth Wood is a Souths Junior (he debuted for Souths at seventeen tender years of age), a crossover athlete with sublime athletic ability. His Father Barry Wood, a Newtown legend, his Brother Nathan Wood played with the Balmain Tigers, Sydney Roosters, New Zealand Warriors, Wakefield Trinity and Warrington Wolves. It’s fair to say the Wood family name is synonymous with Rugby League and Boxing and very much fitness industry leaders in Australia. This high paced show covers the big issues including Valentine’s Day and Manscaping. We also chat about George Kambosos Junior's massive test against the stupendously talented Teofimo Lopez, Paul Gallen and Lucas ‘Big Daddy’ Browne has us intrigued and we see Garth produce great theatre and some improv method acting with a look at two of his idols - Johnny Lewis and the Marrickville Mauler….the great Jeffrey Fenech.Strap in for a wild ride this is RocKD!

We've created a sponsorship program with an application process to find the right students to provide mat skills, and guidance along the martial arts journey. With so much on offer in our Jits4Kids class, we see this as the next step forward to help our local community and embody the PCYC mission of 'helping young people stay active in life'. Lastly, the Spark Competition is a chance to support this! HJJ students, jump on and have a go, and let's do great things for the kids of Sydney. First a big thanks to the students who jump on Zoom and continue the learning. And a spray to those who haven't :) We chat about the history and progression of the Jiu Jitsu Commune into what we now know as Higher Jiu Jitsu. “If a man knows not to which port he sails no wind is favourable — Seneca + "Soon enough new students found us and began to stream onto the PCYC mats. I promised them they could learn jiu jitsu here, and they reciprocated by placing their trust in me as Coach. Class after class they’d show up and I’d teach what I thought were the most relevant techniques. They were picking up the tricks, but it became obvious that these students needed to begin with the basics." + We’re not limited by the curriculum, just liberated. For when you have your bases covered, you can move in different ways. You can venture as deep, as far, and as wide as you like, content in knowing that you’ll always come back to where you began. It’s how you’ll get better not just at doing jiu jitsu, but understanding how it works. This is the focus, and once you start to get it, it’s jiu jitsu that’s at your beck and call. You can do it in your own way, safely, with effectiveness, and for a lifetime. A fun chat, hope you enjoy it! Coach John and Coach Matty

Professor Steven Le Gouill (University Hospital of Nantes, Nantes, France) and Professor Simon Rule (Derriford Hospital, Plymouth, UK) take a look at some of the key data coming out of EHA 2016 and the impact this could have on clinical practice. Following on from the RAY data presented at ASH in 2015, new data presented at EHA 2016 showed a pooled analysis from three ibrutinib studies (PCYC-1104, MCL2001 [SPARK] and MCL3001 [RAY]), which aimed to assess the impact of baseline factors on OS in patients with relapsed/refractory MCL. The study showed that traditionally poor prognostic factors e.g. blastoid histology, adversely impacted on OS and PFS, where patients with worse disease had a reduced response to ibrutinib compared to patients with a better prognosis, albeit with response rates being higher than those seen with other treatments. Additionally, this study demonstrated that in younger patients with fewer prior lines of therapy and a better prognosis, OS is significantly longer in ibrutinib-treated patients. With a higher CR and OS for patients taking ibrutinib first line compared to >1 prior line of therapy, this study provides compelling evidence for the use of ibrutinib as a first line treatment. On the topic of first line treatment, they also discussed the new ENRICH trial, which is still recruiting and will look at ibrutinib and rituximab verses ibrutinib and chemotherapy in MCL patients aged 60 years or older who haven’t received treatment.
