Despite bringing you daily podcasts last week thanks to our sponsors SWARCO and AGD Systems, we still couldn't fit in everything we gathered, so in this bonus podcast we talk about road safety, companies coming together and artificial intelligence.Subscribe to Highways Voices free on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Amazon Music, Google Podcasts or Pocket Casts and never miss an episode! The Australian company Acusensus has proved it's not just speed that can be enforced by technology on our roads thanks to its technology to spot people using their hand-held phones whilst driving, and those who aren't wearing a seatbelt. We catch up with founder and Managing Director Alexander Jannink, before talking to smartmicro CEO Ralph Mende about the company's new products and its acquisition of a British company.A new name to us since the last Intertraffic is Umovity, a partnering of American signals technology company Econolite, and the well known PTV Group. VP, Engineering, Sunny Chakravarty explains how, by better combining hardware, software and now transport modelling, intersections can become safer and more efficient. Many, many companies talked AI across Intertraffic, so McKinsey's expert in the subject, Alberto Chiulli, cuts through the hype before we close the programme with the CEO of Yunex Traffic, John Newhard, who hosted a panel session at Intertraffic Amsterdam 2024 looking at AI, the Cloud and Mobility, and how new technologies and computing could affect our industry. He reflects on what was discussed.

They also look into the public perception, and why when a smart motorway is flowing well because of the extra capacity, drivers do not notice.Paul and Adrian also look at the implications for the industry, and what will happen to the money that was to come into the sector. You'll also hear the latest news from partners ADEPT, LCRIG, The Transport Technology Forum and ITS UK, and why PTV Group wins "Adrian's Accolade" this week.

This week's Highways Voices looks at the key way you can manage traffic in a town or a city - by discussing the latest in signals technology. Presenter Paul Hutton is at the JCT Traffic Signals Symposium in Nottingham, as he talks to Mark Crabtree of TRL, who's been in the industry for 47 years and has been coming to this event for 21 of them. He discusses what's changed in that time, how some of the kit installed then is still in use today and why we shouldn't necessarily get carried away about what changes might take place in the next ten years. We also hear from organiser John Nightingale about the key talking points in Nottingham this week and from six different exhibitors, AGD Systems, Clearview Intelligence, PTV Group, Messagemaker Displays, Smart Video and Sensing and SRL. You'll also hear some of the stories making the headlines on the Highways News website with co-owner Adrian Tatum and about next week's Highways Voices specials from the ITS World Congress in Los Angeles, sponsored by https://gewi.com/ (GEWI), https://www.swarco.com/ (SWARCO), https://www.nota.ai/ (Nota AI), https://one.network/ (one.network) and https://navtechradar.com/ (Navtech Radar), all of whom you can meet in LA.

We recorded so much great material at the ITS World Congress in Singapore, and some of it didn't fit into podcasts from the event, so here is a bonus podcast sponsored by AGD Systems, Cohda Wireless, HERE Technologies, Jenoptik, PTV Group, SWARCO and WSP. In the programme you'll hear the full summary of Congress from Prof Eric Sampson, Chief Rapporteur, who addressed the closing ceremony. Australian company Cohda Wireless and their partners Autonomous Stuff from Illinois Plus talk driverless technology and the business case around it, while we hear about data with EROAD and how anonomised data from road user charging can be used to predict traffic congestion and even accidents. We also hear from a first-time visitor to Congress, Steph Barton of WSP about her experiences at the event. Even this bonus podcast is not enough to fit in everything recorded in, so listen out for longer interviews with HERE, Blackberry, Dutch Experts and hall-of-famer Brian Negus to come, plus a session at congress with PTV and one from the opening of HERE’s new Singapore office. These will be available over the two weeks.

As the 26th ITS World Congress draws to a close, there is still lots of thought leadership going on in Singapore's Suntec Centre, and we're grabbing the best of it on Talking Transport sponsored by AGD Systems, Cohda Wireless, HERE Technologies, Jenoptik, PTV Group, SWARCO and WSP. In today's programme, we talk about the differing ways of approaching enforcement based on different cultural attitudes around the world with Jenoptik giving advice on how to approach the issue. The differences between cities and countries and a lack of one-size-fits-all approach is reflected in conversation with Bosch who talk about delivering mobility solutions in different places, while we hear about a radar-based safety solution from Navtech Radar that not only spots stopped vehicles but can help improve driving by catching tailgaters and centre lane hogs. Then we look to congresses future and how the British city of Birmingham is already working on its bid to host the World Congress in 2024, while Lisbon is going to be the location of Europe's first carbon-neutral mobility congress next year. Finally we hear from the President of ITS America about next year in Los Angeles. Add to all that Eric Sampson's guide to the final day of Congress 2019 and you've got half an hour of brilliant ITS chat on Talking Transport.

A software solution for traffic management, a here-and-now connected vehicle demonstration and a pedestrian and cyclist-friendly intersection management system are showcased on today's Talking Transport from the ITS World Congress in Singapore sponsored by WSP, SWARCO, PTV Group, Jenoptik, HERE Technologies, Cohda Wireless and AGD Systems. SMART Highways editor Paul Hutton talks to SWARCO about how, as well as being a road lining, traffic signals, VMS and parking company, it is now supplying Software as a Service solutions to cities big and small, putting together the knowledge it has gained in 30 countries in the world to help cities manage the forthcoming challenges to mobility. Cohda Wireless and Cisco explain how they are leveraging Internet of Things technology and Wi-Fi based analytics technology at roadside infrastructure to capture real-time lane level traffic flow and road user behaviour, applying analytics to extract lane based queue length and intersection transition times to make them safer and more efficient. And we also hear about intersection management on both sides of the planet from AGD systems whose radar are used to efficiently deliver better traffic management. You can also hear reaction to Volocopter's public flight over Marina Bay (which has been tweeted on @smarthighwaysm) and Eric Sampson's suggestions for sessions not to miss on Wednesday at Congress. Paul also mentions a podcast he previously recorded with SWARCO that you can hear here: http://smarthighways.net/talking-transport-celebrates-swarcos-50th-birthday/

With just days to go until the 2019 ITS World Congress, Talking Transport brings you a second scene-setter for Singapore talking platooning, mapping, mobility and the next generation. These podcasts are sponsored by AGD Systems, Cohda Wireless, HERE Technologies, Jenoptik, PTV Group, SWARCO and WSP. In this podcast we talk to WSP who are going to be launching an exciting tool in Singapore which links the policy and deployment of new mobility to look at the transport network as an integrated system. Director Rehan Mian tells SMART Highways editor Paul Hutton that this tool is a fantastic opportunity to get decision makers in a room and understand how different factors interact and how the impact of what decisions you make today will affect the network in the future. Fellow sponsors Cohda Wireless tell Paul about their platooning solution and how emerging standards allow trucks to space themselves more closely and operate autonomously and how Cohda is developing proof-of-concept versions of software to deliver the benefits. Meanwhile the head of HERE Technologies maps explains how in the last five-to-seven years the way you build maps has fundamentally changed with sensors, connectivity and analysis driving a transformation that created a step-change in customer demands for mapping data. We also hear about a drive to bring the brightest and best young professionals from 15 countries across the Asia-Pacific region to Congress and have our excellent guide to Singapore, with details of must-visit tourist places, beaches, temples plus how the country is a mix of so many different cultures. Remember there will be five daily Talking Transport podcasts from Singapore, starting on Monday 21 October – each looks ahead to the day’s events by talking to organisers, exhibitors, speakers and demonstrators at the world’s must-visit annual ITS convention.
