Richard Senate was born in Los Angeles, California. He grew up in Ventura, California, a beachside community just south of Santa Barbara. He is an author and well known ghost hunter with a special focus on Hollywood and the west coast. He is a historian and worked as the historian for his hometown of Ventura for 22 years. In 1978 he saw a ghost as part of an archaeological dig at one of thee California Missions. It was the phantom of a monk. This sighting started him on a career as a paranormalist long before it was popular. He has appeared on many TV shows and radio over the years including, Dead Famous, Ghost Adventures, Sightings, and in the movie LA Paranormal. Richard still ghost hunts and gives tours and writes. Legendary ghost hunter Richard Senate is a prolific writer with many available titles, but his latest book Ghost Dogs of California caught my eye. Man's best friend, like man himself, persists after death. These tales of haunting hounds date back to the earliest records of history. California has her fair share of four-legged phantoms, from demon dogs to loyal pets still by their master's side, even in the afterlife. But Richard also has tales of other members of the animal kingdom as well, so we decided to not limit the stories to just the canines. From Hell Hounds in the United Kingdom, to celebrity pets who are together again with their beloved humans on the other side, to Richard's personal experiences with animal spirits, we managed to squeeze in many stories for you to ponder and enjoy. Are they just folklore or something more?
Born in Los Angeles, Mr. Senate grew up in Thousand Oaks. His father Leonard worked at MGM studios. He was an accomplished painter and became one of the three top painters of circus banners in the nation. He was used to paint the banners for Disney's Tobe Tyler Film. Mr. Richard Senate attended Ventura High School after the family moved to the coastal town in 1963 when Leonard retired. He attended Ventura Community College where he earned an AA degree, He went on to California State University at Long Beach where he earned an BA Degree in History. He worked as a store manager for a time. Then he attended UCSB where he studied archaeology. He went to a summer field school dig at the Old Mission San Antonio de Padua (near King City). He became the manager of the Albinger Archaeological Museum for eight years, then, the manager of the Olivas Adobe Historic Residence where he was both manager and curator. He was part of the team that developed the award winning Rancho outreach program that has, over the years won two awards. He has authored 23 published books (one a biography of mystery writer Erle Stanley Gardner) and has been featured on many TV shows and documentaries. He has won awards for his many efforts, two for a documentary he made on the Olivas Adobe. He has also worked as historian for the city of Ventura, taught history for the home schools for twelve years. He was featured in the local Radio Drama productions at KVTA Radio—AM 1590. After 22 years he retired from the city of Ventura but still writes and conducts tours for the city. He resides in Ventura with his wife, Psychic Debbie, he has three children and six grandchildren. He suffered a massive heart attack in February 2016 and an operation in March at UCLA. He is recovering now and he hopes to go back to teaching and giving tours. He writes now for the San Buenaventura Post newspaper, and The Midtown Ventura News (on line publications) and the Edgar Rice Burroughs Magazine, (They are about to publish a novella Mr. Senate wrote) and Fate Magazine.

It is a career that has taken him to hundreds of haunted sites in the United States and England. He has appeared on many radio and TV programs over the years and has had published 18 books. He is a recognized authority of the subject of the paranormal. He met his wife, Debbie Christenson Senate in 1983. They were married in a haunted 1888 church and they have three children and today four grand daughters. They reside in Ventura, California where Mr. Senate still conducts investigations, writes books and articles, and conducts tour of haunted sites in the community.
