Trumpy Kill Switches? Veel lof, maar ook zwaar gefronste wenkbrauwen. Dondert niet: Goof & Goot gaan gewoon door! Gedreven. Dwangmatig. Obsessief & Fanatiek. Trouwens, KLM, groot? Pientere Pieters Indiase vliegclub is vijf keer (5X!) zo groot. Wist u dat? Verrassend tussendoortje: Skyraider I en II en Thunderbolt I en II. En tenslotte: is Donald Trump de man, omdat hij onze fonkelnieuwe F-35's met één knopdruk volledig OFF kan zetten? Zoals in: ERROR / NO UPDATE AVAILABLE? Gedreven. Dwangmatig. Obsessief & Fanatiek…. Luister maar.

Would you want to live for longer? Forever? Have your mind preserved and uploaded into something non-human? And is it even possible? Send us a textCan a simple election day lead to a surge in traffic accidents? We explore the curious spike in fender benders that coincide with election time, and share a laugh about a woman who somehow managed to get into two in one day. Yet, things get serious as we discuss the political landscape, including Tony Inchman's comments that have stirred the pot for Trump's campaign and raised eyebrows about leadership competency following a mishap at a construction site. The art of political humor gets a spotlight as well, especially when a quip about Puerto Rico ignites a swift backlash in our reactive political climate.Have you ever been let down by a movie? Our conversation takes a turn toward the intersection of celebrities and politics, starting with a disappointment in the latest Reagan film and moving to Cardi B's awkward moment at a Kamala Harris event. We discuss how these public figures influence political engagement and question the logic behind some urban development choices like converting farmland to housing. Through these discussions, the importance of voting, despite personal disillusionment, remains a central theme. From school dress codes sparking controversy to the influence of media on parenting, we tackle a range of pressing social issues. The conversation explores the impact of gender dynamics and political manipulation on voting, drawing parallels to the diplomatic skills needed in international relations. We liken the podcast world to the unscripted charm of classic talk shows and end on a light note, encouraging everyone to participate in democracy while keeping their voting choices private. Send us a Text Message. Our bodies are 60% water and water is really important. But, It is not clear the origin of drinking 8 glasses of water per day. There were no studies that scientifically show that this number is the correct amount. I vote that it is an "urban myth." Good report summarizes important information about how our body uses waterBut, water is crucial for us, just not that mythical amount. Our body uses water in the following ways:urine to excrete byproducts of what we eat (perhaps 2-3 glasses of water per day needed)respiratory loss (perhaps 1 cup/day)"insensible loss"-sweating to maintain body temperature (wide range depending upon temperature--2 glasses of water/day up to 1 gallon or more)stool perhaps 1/2 cup of water per dayMy take on the scientific evidence:1. The body is amazing at controlling our water balance. Trust it! There is no evidence based reason to focus on getting 8 glasses of water each day. And, we get substantial fluids from our food/morning coffee/milk or sodas at meals...2. If you are thirsty, drink. If your urine has gotten much darker, then perhaps drink. Otherwise trust your body3. these observations don't apply if you have kidney disease or are elderly. Ask your doctor.Tasty water "tidbits": drinking extra water each day... does not seem to make our skin look young and full (might hydrate it a little but not clear if it looks better)does not seem to affect our joints/cartilage (no evidence found here...)does not reduce dry eyesprobably doesn't help us eat less DOES reduce the risk of recurrent urinary tract infections

The boys have been in Japan over the last few weeks and are finally back from their trip and are filled to the brim with yarns. Before we dive in, we start with a massive thank you to everyone who purchased tickets to our sold out live show - apologies to those who missed out, we might have to do another show. The boys then jump into a recount of their trip focusing only on the lowlights (and there were quite a few) with some group shenanigans as well as some individual mishaps, all in all, a great trip. Our game this week is “Urban Myth.” Miguel bought a board game from an Op Shop recently and this brilliant $1 purchase has provided us with 1,000 fact or fiction questions - so be prepared to hear this game quite a bit.For our final segment this week, we pit Sydney vs Tokyo in “Head to Head.” Just when you thought the boys couldn't talk any more about Japan, here they are to discuss these 2 great global cities across 5 main categories: food, transport, people, culture and nightlife. ___________________________________________________________FULL PODCAST EPISODES
As the legendary Joni Mitchell so aptly said "Don't it always seem to go that you don't know what you got till it's gone". Said another way; "Don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened" which is often mistaken as a Dr. Seuss quote when it was actually said by Ozzy Osbourne. This week, (on a vey special episode of the No Outlet Podcast), we shine a light on the art of living in the moment and the appreciation of life. Join us as we tell a tale including inter-dimensional karma police, marginal fables, hyper intelligent crows, a wounded duck* and a pet doctor who loves to surf. And also a lot more stuff like that. For example, we explore the circle of life, talking dogs and discuss/reveal the perfect* pet. Oh...and we also review the origin of Urban Myths and distribution of jokes without the internet. Are there reasons to doubt the conventional wisdom of greenery as the cure-all for urban ills. What are the roots of the Garden City movement, and how has the reality of it been different than the theory?Des Fitzgerald is a professor of medical humanities and social sciences at University College Cork Ireland, and also the author of a recent book titled, The Living City: Why Cities Don't Need to Be Green to Be Great. (released in the UK with a different title: The City of Today is a Dying Thing.Greg and Des discuss how urban landscapes aren't just about aesthetics; they're intricately linked to our national identity and cognitive functions. Des helps us uncover how architecture influences our sense of place and impacts our brains, and explores the role of culture in shaping our environmental perceptions. The conversation spans everything from peat briquettes to Georgian-style facades. Des also guides us through an enlightening discussion on the burgeoning field of medical humanities and the innovative concept of green social prescribing within the NHS.*unSILOed Podcast is produced by University FM.*Episode Quotes:The transformative shift in environmental neuroscience39:32: Something that is becoming really interesting in this space is the emergence of environmental neuroscience, as I think a relatively new, increasingly interesting, and powerful discipline. Environmental neuroscience exists for a whole bunch of reasons, but certainly the increasing sense that we're able to take a brain measure while a person moves around the space in three dimensions. That's, I think it's something that can be done imperfectly now. It's still very much in progress, but at least we have a horizon in which that's going to become pretty possible at kind of high-resolution research grade relatively soon. And that is transformative, actually, if the three dimensions of a space become truly available as a variable for brain measurement. Then something does happen, and something does change in that moment. What's wrong with planting a lot of trees?43:13: What concerns me about urban tree planting is what we're not talking about when we're talking about urban trees, right? So the amount of social and public problems that trees are meant to solve is ridiculous. It's everything from mental health to youth crime to skills in some parts of England, where they're planting trees in an English town because it's like the people of the town have low skills for some reason. It just seems to go for not tackling boring social problems, right? So, for instance, it's very real that there are major mental health problems in cities. I think there is something very serious about the way we have constructed the contemporary city—that it has bad effects for lots of people. We need to stop centering urban discourse on charismatic megafauna of global urbanism45:37: We need to stop centering urban discourse on the kind of charismatic megafauna of global urbanism, right? And look at the kind of, what I would genuinely call the crap cities, right? The kind of second-tier, slightly stronger places, like places like Cork, Cardiff in Wales, where I used to live. I'm not sure what your go-to North American examples would be, but I'm still in those kinds of, like, lower-tier, maybe Poughkeepsie, Peoria, these kinds of places. That's your kind of modular urban experience, I think. And those are places I think we need to take much more seriously culturally and socially.Interdisciplinarity in medical humanities49:09: I think what folks in the field are trying to do is do something a little bit more collaborative and a little bit more imaginative, and not just have the philosopher who will sign off your ethics forms, but try to think seriously about how philosophy can inform experimental design. How philosophical work can itself be informed by stuff that's happening in biology and the life sciences. I'm trying to really get at the kind of complex space between those things where you're doing work that is not quite humanities or science but some kind of magic third thing. En: They had agreed to meet that night by the fountain in Kalemegdan Park, but Ana had not arrived yet. En: Jovan began to look around, impatiently waiting for her. En: Darkness fell quickly, and the lights in the park began to dim.Sr: Nailazeći na jednu klupu blizu fontane, ugledao je siluetu koja je pod svetlom mesečine podsećala na Anu.En: Approaching a bench near the fountain, he saw a silhouette that, illuminated by the moonlight, reminded him of Ana.Sr: "Ana, jesi li to ti?En: "Ana, is that you?"Sr: " upitao je ne ugledavši dobro u mraku.En: he asked, squinting in the dark. En: The silhouette did not respond, but Jovan thought that Ana might be playing a prank. En: He started talking about his day, his hopes, and even the future they had imagined together.Sr: Čak i kad nije bilo odgovora, Jovan nije shvatao svoju zabludu.En: Even when there was no response, Jovan did not realize his mistake. En: Love and hope carried him, and he even reached out and gently took the statue's hand.Sr: „Ana“, rekao je, „zašto ćutiš?En: "Ana," he said, "why are you so quiet?"Sr: "U tom trenutku, prolaznik je uključio baterijsku lampu i obasjao svetlom scenu.En: At that moment, a passerby turned on a flashlight and illuminated the scene.Sr: Jovan je zbunjen trepnuo i ugledao nežive oči statue koju je držao za ruku.En: Confused, Jovan blinked and saw the lifeless eyes of the statue he was holding.Sr: Statua, naravno, nije imala Anine kovrdže, niti njene velike smeše oči.En: Of course, the statue did not have Ana's curls or her big, beautiful eyes.Sr: Bila je samo neživa kamena figura iz prošlosti Kalemegdana.En: It was just an inanimate stone figure from Kalemegdan's past.Sr: Okupljeni prolaznici su počeli da se smeju, ali Jovanu ništa nije bilo smešno.En: The gathered passersby started to laugh, but Jovan didn't find anything funny.Sr: Osećao se pomalo glupo, ali više od toga osećao je olakšanje: Ana nije bila ta koja ga ignoriše.En: He felt a little foolish, but more than that, he felt relieved: Ana was not the one ignoring him.Sr: Tada je, kroz smeh prolaznika i Jovanovo iznenađenje, čuo poznat glas.En: Then, through the laughter of the passersby and Jovan's surprise, he heard a familiar voice.Sr: "Jovane?En: "Jovan?"Sr: " Ana ga je zvala iz daljine.En: Ana called out from a distance.Sr: Držeći telefon sa upaljenom svetiljkom, približavala se klupi.En: Holding her phone with the flashlight on, she approached the bench.Sr: Videla je Jovana kako stoji zamrznut i zbunjen do statue.En: She had seen the whole scene when she arrived, as her bus had been late.Sr: Ana nije mogla da zaustavi osmeh.En: Ana couldn't contain her smile.Sr: Kada je došla do Jovana, objasnila je da je njen autobus kasnio i da je videla celu scenu kad je stigla.En: When she reached Jovan, she explained that her bus had been delayed and that she had witnessed the whole scene upon her arrival.Sr: Jovan se osmehnuo, malo posramljen, ali srećan što vidi Anu.En: Jovan smiled, a little embarrassed, but happy to see Ana.Sr: Objasnila mu je kako često greške mogu da izgledaju kao veliki problemi, ali da vreme i smeh leče sve.En: She explained to him that mistakes often seem like big problems but that time and laughter heal everything.Sr: Pod vedrim zvezdanim nebom, Jovan i Ana su se konačno susreli.En: Under the starry sky, Jovan and Ana finally met.Sr: Smejali su se njegovoj zabludi, uživali u zajedničkoj šetnji i posmatrali kako se svetla Kalemegdana pališe jedno po jedno.En: They laughed at his blunder, enjoyed a walk together, and watched as the lights of Kalemegdan flickered on one by one.Sr: Shvatili su da nezaboravne priče i neugodne situacije mogu zapravo biti početak nečeg lepog.En: They realized that unforgettable stories and awkward situations can actually be the beginning of something beautiful.Sr: Svaki put kad bi se posle toga našli kod fontane, pogledali bi prema klupi i statui u šali.En: Every time they met by the fountain after that, they would jokingly glance at the bench and the statue.Sr: Jovan i Ana su naučili da se bez grešaka i neobičnih susreta možda nikada ne bi tako iskreno nasmejali i povezali.En: Jovan and Ana had learned that without mistakes and unusual encounters, they might never have genuinely laughed and Today's Messianic movement is in a very precarious situation. On the one hand, some good things are happening as many Jewish people are coming to faith in Messiah Yeshua, and Christians are expressing a love for Israel and embracing their Hebraic Roots. Our numbers are getting larger and larger—with many not having to really wonder what “Messianic” is any more. Many people know that when you call yourself “Messianic” you are either a Jewish Believer in Yeshua, or a non-Jewish Believer in Yeshua who has some kind of strong connection to Israel. On the other hand, though, there are some not so good things happening today in the Messianic movement. The theology of the Messianic community and its understanding of the Bible have largely not been able to keep up with its growth. On the whole, many of the answers that we have to give in response to external criticisms of our convictions have not been very deep. They have sometimes not been examined very well from the Scriptures, and our engagement with theological discussions—in some cases going back several centuries—is often just not there. We have a great deal of progress that we must make in the coming years as a more coherent and scholastically-minded Messianic theology begins to come forward. What needs to be done to secure a stable and secure future for today's emerging Messianic movement? How can we be people who make a positive difference in the fallen world in which we live?
We dive into the urban legend of Scouting only taking one hour a week. Where did this crazy idea come from? We debunk a lot of the misconceptions that arise from recruiting claims. Leaders know that this is not the case. We discuss in detail where this may have come from and how people misunderstood this claim. Many leaders know that a quality program requires training and dedication. Not all meetings are just an hour. Excellence in adult leadership takes a lot of work and it cannot boil down to just putting in one hour a week. Video on YouTube: https://youtu.be/Ddv7fE_e-yY

By Adam Turteltaub For the cynical, business ethics, itself, is a myth. For those of us in the profession, we know it is not. Still, that doesn't mean that certain urban myths don't arise. Matej Drascek (LinkedIn), in this provocative podcast, and in an article from Compliance and Ethics Professional® (CEP) magazine, argues that there are, in fact, a number of them. They are: Myth 1: The code of conduct supports ethical behavior. Myth 2: The compliance program helps the organization become more ethical. Myth 3: Whistleblowing tools reduce the risk of unethical behavior. Myth 4: More training in ethics is better. Myth 5: Individual “unethical” characters can be curbed with the right controls. Myth 6: Goals related to ethics or compliance help people behave more ethically. Sound more like truths than myths? As you will hear, his comments are more warnings about the complacency traps that can arise. For example, we may think a code of conduct is helpful, but if it's read once and then forgotten, it's not. Or, just because there's a whistleblower line doesn't mean it will be used; the fear of retaliation may keep an employee from reaching out. Listen in to learn the subtle nuances. If you don't, your ears will fall off. Okay, maybe that's Myth 7.

I am really excited for you to hear my conversation with legendary comedian and storyteller DC Benny Stand Up is a daily podcast. Please subscribe now for as little as 5$ and gain access to a community of over 740 awesome, curious, kind, funny, brilliant, generous souls. In the hard-hitting New York comedy world, D.C. Benny is a heavyweight contender. His nickname “D.C.” was given to him by Harlem's legendary host; “Uncle” Jimmy Mack, who sadly passed away in the 2014 Tracy Morgan car accident. Benny's unusual style of telling autobiographical stories, inhabited by original characters has been sharpened for almost thirty years as a performer. His personal essays, stories, and articles have been featured in New York Magazine, The New York Observer, Narratively, and Heeb Magazine. Benny's diverse fan base know him from a wide range of appearances; his “White Boy Rips The Apollo” clip with almost ten million views, his Comedy Central Presents, one the of the network's highest-rated half-hour specials, as a top eight finalist on NBC's Last Comic Standing, his role as Caesar in John Singleton's feature film “Illegal Tender”, as “Chaz” on the soap opera “As The World Turns”, and national commercials for Verizon, Dell, Volkswagon, Wendy's, AIG, as well as the Budweiser “How You Doin'?” superbowl spots campaign. His weekly comedic story-telling show, Urban Myth, became an underground staple, where performers such as Dave Chappelle, Robert Kelley, Jim Gaffigan, Jim Norton, Jay Oakerson, Kevin Hart, Mike Epps, and SNL's Dean Edwards would tell their true, funny, stories, to a packed house at The Zinc, a downtown New York jazz bar. Currently, Benny co-hosts the story-telling podcast “Tall But True” with his friend, Cash Cab's Ben Bailey, where guests like Ray Romano, Dom Irrera, Colin Quinn, Adam Ferrara, Artie Lange, and Bill Burr share funny stories and talk smack. Benny lives in Brooklyn where he fiddles around with old Land Rovers when he is supposed to be helping his wife run her natural skincare business. He has a dog named Grits and two cats who prefer that he not share their personal information in this bio.
