One of our fans is buying a condo with help from their conservative parents—who don't know that their child makes all of their money from sex work—and wants to know if they should reveal the truth or keep the secret. We had to dust off the Earnestness Horn for this one, y'all, it gets real. She is also the founder of Old Pros, a non-profit media organization dedicated to decriminalizing sex work. They discuss the influence of the Christian church on the stigmatization and active restriction of the oldest profession. If the idea of talking to a sex worker scares you, this episode is for you. Sex work is often referred to as the world's oldest profession, and our attitudes to it are rapidly evolving. The language around it has changed, and public figures from politicians to influencers are being more open about it than ever. The shame and stigma around the profession seems weaker now than even a few years ago. So, what does sex work look like in Australia in 2024? In this four-part series, The Briefing dives deeper into the profession, where it's been and where it's going. In our final part of the series, we speak with Nova Hawthorne, one of Australia's most successful Only Fans creator, to get a peek behind the curtain of the online sex work industry. INTERVIEW BEGINS AT : 31:00 Oh Folks.. I am so excited for this show!! What is the history of the art of clowning, and how has it evolved over the years, and why is it different in America, The UK and the rest of the world The clown can be dated as far back as 2400 BC and has served many roles in different cultures and civilizations, yet, to many, clowns are just silly circus performers, or pantomimist or something to scare the poop out of people with (thank you horror films). But the truth is, clowns serve a far more important role in history. The amazing Dott Cotton joins us to discuss clowning thru history, and her career as a modern clown. She is a truly gifted performer who, in my opinion perfectly bridges the gap between vintage traditional English music hall clowning and modern entertainment. It is indeed a pleasure and a thrill to welcome her to the show. So kick back, enjoy, and please subscribe, rate and share the show, Let's keep the audience growing. Today, I'm joined by Madam Bella Cummins, the proprietor of Nevada's only true female-owned brothel, bringing nearly 40 years of experience as a Madam to our discussion. We delve into the nuanced landscape of legalised prostitution, shedding light on ongoing efforts to reduce stigma, promote safety, and ensure consent within the profession. We explore her advocacy for sex workers' rights through the Onesta Foundation, the shift from 'prostitute' to 'courtesan,' and the recognition of sex work and the human need for connection. We also tackle the societal judgement faced by those in the industry, underscoring the importance of open dialogue. n this thought-provoking episode of The Oldest Profession podcast, host Kaytlin Bailey explores the shared historical context of the stigma and criminalization of homosexuality and prostitution. Kaytlin discusses the origins of negative attitudes towards homosexuality and “non-traditional” sexual practices in the Abrahamic religions of Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. This episode highlights how these religious beliefs have shaped social mores and contributed to the marginalization of both LGBTQ+ individuals and sex workers. This episode challenges misconceptions and emphasizes the importance of both communities in the ongoing fight for LGBTQ+ and sex worker rights. Content Warning: This episode contains frank discussions and acknowledges the constantly evolving language used to identify stigmatized groups. We want you to check out another podcast. It's called The Oldest Profession podcast. Host and creator Kaytlin Bailey joins Ms Olivia and Ms Erika. This episode includes a candid conversation about whorephobia, slut shaming, sex work advocacy and life as sex workers.Kaytlin Bailey talks about being drawn to “bad girls” from an early age and then learning about the power of courtesans throughout history. She tells us about becoming a sex worker by choice and from a place of privelege as a way to explore to find her own truth about sex, boundaries, and erotic experiences.Insights into the connection between body autonomy, the ability to negotiate consent and sex work are examples from history and her own life. The ladies talk about the difference between a lover and a client. All three agree that clients often treat us better than some past lovers in terms of respect, kindness and value of the time spent together. This leads to a conversation about the spectrum of choice, circumstance and coercion for those who become sex workers. In the Nevada brothel system there is a push to call ladies courtesans instead of escorts. That discussion leads to a conversation about names that includes the use of the term sugar baby or sugar babies.Kaytlin is also a standup comic. She talks about the historical similarities between court jesters and courtesans. She turned her experiences into a critically acclaimed one woman show called Cuntagious. She is working on the second show called A Whore's Eye View.Kaytlin Bailey: https://oldprosonline.org/about/ https://whoreseyeview.com/Mistress Olivia: https://www.experiencedmistress.com/Mistress Erika: https://intelligentphonefantasy.com/PS: When Kaytlin talked about the link between the military and sacred whores, Ms Olivia tired to explain about seeing a production that used ancient plays to shed light on current issues. WHY THE COURTESAN ARCHETYPE IS THE OLDEST PROFESSION IN THE WORLD.I believe our human soul has always known that our Eros is a pathway to divinity.I believe that this is one of the core drives that pulls us towards sex. We in fact are looking for God through sex. We are looking for our original home through sex. We are looking for the end to our separation identity through sex.We know this, and yet this knowing is murky for the vast majority of us.Even among the sacred sexuality community, I'm not sure how many of us are living this reality and reaching for it directly. Which is ok. Perhaps it's just the process of us finding our depth along this particular pathway.First we hear of the possibility. Then we follow and experiment. And perhaps for a long while, we are in ‘fake it till make it' modality. I feel that many people today are in this phase of discovering the scared in the erotic.I think even when we pay for sex, when we seek Courtesans or choose to be Courtesans, we are engaging in this sacred portal that is possible through the Erotic. All Courtesans are partially Priests and Priestess — even if the Courtesans themselves don't believe this much themselves.— Om RupaniOmRupani.orgwww.OmRupani.org

It's the world's oldest profession. Sex workers, prostitutes, and the pimps who live off them have been around since the dawn of time. There are mentions of them in the Code of Hammurabi. The dusty case files of medieval Europe talk about them constantly. There are references to them in Victorian literature from Charles Dickens' Nancy and Bill Sykes in Oliver Twist to the drunken orgies of the Russian military officers and gypsy girls in Dostoevsky's The Brothers Karamazov. However, in the 21st century there is, of course, a high tech spin to a very old issue.OnlyFans is spoken of as the 'Uber of sex work'. A disruptive social media platform that purportedly allows sex workers to communicate and make money from their customers without the dangerous control of their pimps.Unlikely female allies have hailed the site as 'self-esteem conferring'. An Australian model raised $1 million to help fight forest fires by posting nude photos of herself. And then the Disney star Bella Thorne made over $1 million in one day by promising to do the same thing. However, there's a dark side to this new phenomenon. Critics are claiming that far from saving people from exploitation, human trafficking and underage harm sites like OnlyFans are doing the exact opposite.
Dear, patient listener..We meet again, 2 weeks late, we know.. no creative endeavor is ever an assembly line and we had to drop a dud podcast by the wayside. Maybe it will be unearthed one day by a particularly desperate AI bot.Maybe we'll sell it for a million dollars as a collector's item.Until then, may it rest in peace. This week's episode asked after the origin of identifying prostitution (typically female prostitution) as "the oldest profession." One such delightful source can be found in the equally delightful short story by the British Subject Rudyard Kipling named 'On the City Wall' (1888). There we find Lalun, the whore grand-daughter of the whore demoness Lilith. She's a wealthy prostitute living on the city wall, manipulating the men around her, including the narrator. Any Said or Fanon fan would find many of these discussions a blast (in one way or another), as the colonizer laments the hopelessness of the task to civilize the savage so as to deserve their freedom/independence - as is evidenced by there still being prostitutes there. There, means colonial India.Did I say British?I meant he was British in India. There's more to this than can or would be covered here... Professionalism, the book of Genesis, Lilith the cowgirl and so much more! The stars reflect this eclectic debate: Beast and Sovereign; Marx Grudge, WWJD; and of course Pervs R' Us!
Soiled Doves and Painted Ladies is the story of California prostitution beginning in the chaotic word of the California gold rush and is firmly entrenched in the history of the state. This book outlines the story of sex workers in the golden west, from gold rush to the golden age of Hollywood. It outlines some of the most notable madams and courtesans that dot the history of the state. The nature of the "Oldest Profession" was one of vacillating strong emotions, both good and bad, and world renowned ghost hunter and historian, Richard Senate says that there are many ghost stories linked to brothels both historically modern times. From the Gold Rush days to Hollywood's Golden Era, Richard has some great stories to tell from prostitutes who made a name from themselves and went down in history and celebrities that have made a name for themselves who began as ladies of the night. So listen in. It was a very interesting hour of history and hauntings
On this week's Movies for Life, we're heading back to the swingin' 60s with two very different tales about women working in the world's oldest profession (ie sex work). Our first movie is Michele's pick of Luis Bunuel's BELLE DE JOUR from 1967, a fascinating and at times complex and complicated story of a woman's choice to secretly enter sex work as a way to work through her issue and explore her masochistic fantasies. Then we jump to the 2021 movie LAST NIGHT IN SOHO for Brian's choice. While dealing the same profession, the character in this film has a much different and darker story, wrapped up in an equally intriguing, colorful, and at times totally bonkers, tale about the dangers of nostalgia. On January 25, 1917, over 300 sex workers in San Francisco marched to protest the imminent closure of their brothels. This was the first sex worker led protest in the United States. This conversation with Kaytlin Bailey from Old Pros was a dream for me as her podcast The Oldest Profession is one of my all-time favorites! We discussed why the war on prostitution is really a war on women, what SESTA/FOSTA act is and how it's really a wolf in sheep's clothing designed to trick people into thinking it's a benefit. She tells us about the larger network that she heads up, called Old Pros, and ways that you can be supportive to help folks understand that sex workers' rights matter. Lizzie Lape (1853-1917) was a prolific businesswoman and Madam in the Midwest during the 19th century. She owned numerous brothels and saloons throughout Ohio and even maintained a future President of the United States as one of her regular customers. Lizzie Lape traversed the state of Ohio seeking, establishing, and succeeding in every business venture she touched. Yet most Americans have never heard of her until her great-great-granddaughter set out to uncover and share her story. This week we are delving into the story of Maimie Pinzer, a Jewish SWer born in Philadelphia, PA in 1885. We interview Dr. Thomas A. J. McGinn about Roman prostitution, marriage laws, and a strange Cinderella story. What was a paterfamilias and how did they determine a woman's life? Were prostitutes merely doing their civic duty? Why did early Christians call the Roman government the pimp-in-chief?Autonomy and agency are the overarching themes of this episode. We explore them in laws governing Roman women, how prostitution was legislated and profited from in Ancient Rome, why sex work isn't the right term for the Roman world, and why even empresses weren't immune from slander. Imperial Japan's “comfort women,” Marie Antoinette, and Iran's headscarf laws are part of this story too. But we start with an actress named Theodora.CW: This episode discusses themes of rape and sexual exploitation.Women Who Went Before is written, produced, and edited by Emily Chesley and Rebekah Haigh. The music is composed and produced by Moses Sun.
