Characters Brigid growing up and being witness to the dedication her father Ron had for his pursuit of writing Singer, the first book Brigid wrote, which evolved into the four books of The Songbird River Chronicles in response to her father's prompting Brigid's appreciation of having good parents at all the various stages of her youth and adulthood The importance of being able to accept the other person's methods and style of writing as well as their ideas which can be totally different Learning one's own writing styles from engaging with the other person's work The incredible amount of fun that can happen with the right collaborations The logistics of how they co-author together, for both short stories as well as a newco-authored book project Finding the middle-ground between planning and discovery writing Merging the worlds of the fairie realm with the baseball world based on the idea of a baseball diamond being built on top of a fairie ring The fun of merging the tropes of these two types of worlds The way the split of writing has evolved and gotten more complicated as part of writing the next books in the series Leveraging Google doc and folders for the collaborations Using Draft2Digital's payment splitting option for publishing A collaboration that Ron is doing with his brother merging science fiction and the world of music Advice they would offer to writers interested in getting into writing collaborations And more... Ron Collins and David Skover are two of America’s foremost legal scholars on free speech. Together, they are authors of The Trials of Lenny Bruce, in which they detail the legal troubles of Lenny Bruce–a standup comic and free-speech pioneer who paved the way for every comedian who came after him. Throughout his career, Lenny faced multiple obscenity charges–all based solely on words he said on stage. Lenny died a convict, but Ron and David worked tirelessly to clear his name; Lenny is now revered as the father of modern standup.

Ron Collins, Stephen Lane and Ted Schmidt review the FL Frontier division FA signings. This was recorded prior to spring training. Jeff proves us to be prescient about Boise after we spend a lot of time missing the most obvious reason for their lack of early FA activity. Ron Collins, Stephen Lane, and Ted Schmidt Review the 2038 Frick League Heartland FA signings. This was recorded prior to Spring Training and does not include any signings after that time. I decided to break these into division based segments this year as all six divisions would be nearly four hours of content. Some are longer than others, but division based segments seemed more natural than time based ones. By the way, Ron, I noticed now how you bowed out of reviewing your own signings, but made Stephen and I talk about ours. Sneaky. Chris Wilson and Ron Collins have a half-hour talk that covers the Wolves past, present, and future. The nature of baseball in an online league. History, coaching, teaching, and maybe a little Mons Raider here and there ... oh, and we get little lines like "when I won my _first_ Landis" tossed around like those things are just so much candy.
Ed Murphy and Ron Collins take an afternoon chat to cover all things Des Moines. We take a look back at Ed's considerable time with the league, talk about his two superstars and the way he's looking at the current season. Of course, there's a bout of Ed in the lightning round, and then Ed's question that leads to the revelation of my mega-spreadsheet (natch, right?). Oh, yeah. There might be mention of a trade in there somewhere.
His trials began with a police bust at the Jazz Workshop in San Francisco in October 1961, and ended with an obscenity conviction in New York in November 1964. Stand-up comedy legend Lenny Bruce underwent 35 months—1,062 days—of nonstop persecution and prosecution for the content of his act. It was 50 years ago this month that an autopsy would report that Bruce died of an overdose of morphine on August 3, 1966. But anyone who knows his story knows it was more complicated than that. Billboard’s Phil Spector wrote in the magazine’s obituary for Bruce that "America's foremost, and certainly most truthful, philosopher died from an overdose of police." This episode of “So to Speak: The Free Speech Podcast” commemorates the 50th anniversary of Bruce’s death. We are joined by Ron Collins, a scholar at the University of Washington School of Law who co-authored with David Skover “The Trials of Lenny Bruce: The Fall and Rise of an American Icon,” which carefully documents Bruce’s career and free speech struggles. This episode explores the life, trials, and legacy of a man whom George Carlin said “opened the doors for all the guys like me,” and in so doing, became a martyr for free speech in comedy and art. www.sotospeakpodcast.com Follow us on Twitter: twitter.com/freespeechtalk Like us on Facebook: facebook.com/sotospeakpodcast Email us: sotospeak@thefire.org Call in a question: 215-315-0100

Coming up… Fact: Looking Back at Genre History by Amy H. Sturgis 02:30 Main fiction: “Bugs” by Ron Collins 15:30 Dr. Caulder kept talking, but John could scarcely follow along. The government needed authorization. Would he sign a waiver? Of course, Jesus Christ, of course. His hospital gown disappeared. A nurse sprayed his chest with shaving creme. Carol’s beautiful face filled his view, tears streaming down lined cheeks. She said something long and drawn out, but all John heard was “I love you.” Then he was gone. Preparations continued as they rolled. IV bottles hung from steel rods. An elevator door closed. A needle pricked his arm. Bugs, he thought. They’re going to use the bugs. Then he was asleep.
