Rob and Guy Love Simon Pegg. That was clear for all to hear in our episode on Shaun of the Dead. After that movie he became hot property and Hollywood came calling. After a Mission Impossible and with Star Trek to come, Pegg's showbiz mate David Schwimmer, star of arguably the biggest Ameri-Com Friends, was directing a British set, US written Rom-Com, and wanted Pegg as his leading man. Problem is, how do you make an alter-jilter layabout tosspot seem loveable? If anyone can do it... Pegg is joined by an abundance of British comedy and acting talent. From Thandiwe Newton to Simon Day, some American muscle in the shape of Hank Azaria and once again joining forces with Dylan Moran to create a cast to die for... And that's before we even get to cameos from Stephen Merchant, David Walliams and a host more. However, how likely was a movie originally to be set in the US and written and directed by Americans to grasp that Britcom sensibility? Join Rob and Guy as they find out. It's not just Run Fatboy Run that we'll be discussing in episode 4. The ground-breaking sketch show, which gave Pegg an early break, will also go under the microscope as iconic sketches such as The Staring Contest, Smug Man Who Can't Open Doors, The Artist Formerly Known as Prince preying upon Jockeys in the wild and a host more. Born in Shakespeare's home of Stratford-upon-Avon, Simon Pegg found his fame first as a standup comic, then as a self-described "nerd" starring in the great British science-fiction sitcom "Spaced". From there he has acted with zombies (Shaun of the Dead), marathoners (Run Fatboy Run), Klingons (in the Star Trek reboot), and Tom Cruise (Mission Impossible). Simon also has become a voice actor of some repute with roles in the Ice Age movies and The Chronicles of Narnia. Not bad for a guy who playfully calls himself a "geek"! As always find extra cuts below and thanks for sharing our shows. Want more Simon Pegg? Simon's first role was in Spaced and he leaned into his "geeky" image for all it was worth.https://youtu.be/egieZjmoCV0?si=1IQ32r2SU_7gnuH2 Simon is a superb standup comic and this 1995 set was part of what led executives to cast him in Spaced. https://youtu.be/MtFNpXlwUU4?si=Qf4BMVejuC5ybKbS Run Fatboy Run showed a softer but still very funny side of Simon as he tries to reform his slothful ways. The bit we excerpt starts about 15 min in. https://youtu.be/W_LB7Sn_HY0?si=JsliTTW2eMy086Tn Simon Pegg has become a favorite talk show guest, especially on James Corden's show, and it's no wonder with stories like these where Simon recounts his goth youth. https://youtu.be/oPfxkQ9xscw?si=MneV_t0XcA4_jJTV
With their underdog-against-all-odds-redemption stories and epic training montages, sports movies can be the best source of support when we're deep in the toughest moments in our lives. Earlier this year, when our executive producer, Liliana Maria, found herself surrounded by cancer and death in her close circle of family and friends, she turned to the Michael B. Jordan movie, Creed III, to help her keep going. She kept repeating Adonis Creed's mantra to herself each day: “One step at a time, one punch at a time, one round at a time.” In this week's episode, hosted by Liliana Maria, we share your stories about sports movies like Hoosiers, Whip It, Brittany Runs A Marathon and Cool Runnings, which have accompanied you when you needed them most.
Oh Simon, my Simon, your fearful trip is yet to come in this week's movie, Run Fatboy Run. Amanda and Wade discuss the universality of redemption movies, the sneaky snakiness of the great Hank Azaria, and the breakout character of Mr. G. So lace up those trainer and, well, wait for us at the finish line. We'll walk, thanks. As we prepare for the return of Parkrun in the UK we take a fresh look at the 2007 Simon Pegg film Run Fatboy Run! #297 Polystyrene Vs Worms - Richard has found himself disappointed by the action of Han Solo, but never mind, he’s back on telly (Taskmaster starts on October 15th, 9pm on Channel 4) and so he won’t have to do stupid podcasts where he talks to dead wasps anymore. But for now, here he is talking to the charming and patient and wise Michael Ian Black. They discuss why you’d give up being a Mutant Ninja Turtle, the battle to create the most boring podcast, who has the best Irish accent, Rich’s problem with Michael’s film “Run Fatboy Run”, whether the Universe will be destroyed if they ever meet, the problems with masculinity that has prompted them both to write a book about it and Rich’s plans to write a film with the greatest cast list ever.Michael’s book is ace, buy it here https://www.amazon.co.uk/Better-Man-Letter-My-Son/dp/1616209119/And/or buy Richard’s less good book about the same thing here https://www.amazon.co.uk/Problem-Men-When-International-matters/dp/0751581453/Please ask Michael to do something humiliating on Cameo https://www.cameo.com/michael_ian_blackWatch the show every week on Wednesday night (usually) on Twitch http://twitch.tv/rkherringIf you’re with Amazon Prime you can give us free money every month. SPOILERS ALERT In this episode we discuss and dissect two running films, Brittany Runs a Marathon and Run Fat Boy Run, so be aware we'll have ruined them for you. We hope you're ready for yet another shitty start to podcast with some real bullshit, but we can assure you within 20 seconds we flip it and there is brilliant news, even though it makes Stu very angry. Stu invents the word 'Hollywoodised', Amy mentions her ultra (twice) and there's talk of boobs, poo, toenails and strava wankers. Classic BS. We leave you with the question: "How far does a penis travel in a run?"

New Podcast with Actor India de Beaufort! In this episode of "Kahnversations," we interview India de Beaufort. India was born in a small suburb on the outskirts of London, England. It’s called Surbiton. If you’ve heard of Wimbledon, where the tennis happens, you still haven’t heard of Surbiton. It’s one town over. India’s mum, dancer/choreographer Karen de Beaufort, tried her darnedest to deter India from the entertainment industry at a very young age, but India completely ignored her mother and pulled out the jazz hands anyway, receiving her first (background acting) credit at 9 years old. At the age of 15, India joined the BAFTA-nominated BASIL BRUSH SHOW, where she made a ton of mistakes and expected to be fired daily. She miraculously held on to the gig until she was cast in David Schwimmer’s feature RUN FAT BOY RUN, at 18, not long after she made the move from London to Los Angeles, and consequently began hoarding British tea bags. With no formal training, India’s godsend of a manager Tom Drumm (thank the heavens) sent her to miracle worker Lesly Kahn, who got her on her first US series, and has been screaming at her ever since (thanks Les). Since landing in LA, India has jumped around as a regular, recurring and guest star on multiple live action and animated series, most recently shooting the pilot GOSPEL OF KEVIN for ABC, and wrapping up season 6 of Netflix’s ALL HAIL KING JULIEN. However, the best thing she got from Lesly Kahn (slash all of America) is her husband, fellow LK&Co. client Todd Grinnell, who can currently be seen crushing the role of Schneider on Netflix’s ONE DAY AT A TIME. #Proud. You can download or subscribe to the podcast for FREE by clicking below. If you like “Kahnversations,” please leave a rating or review on our iTunes page! There are so many inspiring podcasts with fabulous stars out there. But their careers feel light years away from ours, don’t they? Wouldn’t it be great to hear from the guy who just booked his first pilot? Or the kid finally doing a studio pic after a bunch of low budget indies? Or the woman who’s been a series regular a few times but is only now becoming a name? What about the guy who’s been on a show for years and you know his face but what’shisnameagain? Or that actress who is now a freakin’ showrunner???? How’d THEY do it, right? How did they transition from relative obscurity, bartending and bottle service, to buying that house in Brentwood? We’re producing “Kahnversations,” a podcast that provides access to THOSE people -- your immediate predecessors -- so that you can learn from them while their battle scars are still fresh. In “Kahnversations,” our own Ryan Bailey interviews some of Lesly Kahn & Company’s working actors, directors, and writers in order to learn how they got started in Hollywood, the challenges and hurdles they faced, and how they overcame the odds. (They also dish out some crazy stories!) Listen in and enjoy as these entertainers speak candidly about their paths, processes, and experiences. You might even hear a bit about how Lesly and the Kahnstitute have influenced and shaped their careers.

Pegg, Part 4: Run Fatboy Run. Running Time: 56 minutes 33 seconds After the success of Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz, Simon Pegg became a sought-after commodity for both his acting and writing. David Schwimmer's Run Fatboy Run featured both of those talents. In this episode of Commentary: Trek Stars, John and Mike take a look at Pegg's third screenplay, which was co-written with Michael Ian Black. We discuss how accurately the film portrays a marathon, the changes that Pegg made to Black's original script, and why it's ultimately not very good.
