Plus, Netflix and Paramount are embattled in a war over Warner Bros Discovery and so far Netflix has come out on top with a $83 Billion bid, but Paramount is attempting a hostile takeover that could involve the Saudi's and be worth over 108 Billion. In today's Daily Fix:PlayStation and J.J. Abrams' Bad Robot Games have announced a new multiplayer game as part of the companies' partnership. While PlayStation's multiplayer-centric offerings have not hit as of late (except Helldivers 2), there is hope that this game will find an audience considering it's being helmed by Left 4 Dead's Mike Booth. In other news, Amazon's Tomb Raider series is not only rebooting the live-action Lara Croft adventures, but will "reinvent the franchise on a massive scale" by connecting the show to the games in a "unified storytelling universe." Fleabag's Phoebe Waller-Bridge is showrunning, and the series is expected to go into production early next year. And finally, Creative Assembly hosted a 25th Anniversary showcase, featuring new Total War projects, including the next mainline historical game: Total War: Medieval 3. A new game engine, Warcore, will also power new entries on console for the first time.

Editors - Nona Khodai ACE and Tim Roche The Fantastic Four: First Steps sees editors Nona Khodai and Tim Roche reunite for the 37th film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) and the second reboot of the Fantastic Four film series. The film also marks the first time the two have worked together since Marvel's live action series debut, WandaVision. Although each had worked with him separately before, WandaVision was the first time both Nona and Tim worked with director Matt Shakman on a Marvel project. The Fantastic Four: First Steps takes place in 1964, as the world celebrates the fourth anniversary of astronauts Reed Richards, Sue Storm, Johnny Storm, and Ben Grimm becoming the superhero team known as the Fantastic Four (Mister Fantastic, Invisible Woman, Human Torch and the Thing). But the celebration doesn't last for long as the four face their most daunting challenge yet as they defend Earth from Galactus and Silver Surfer. NONA KHODAI ACE A Southern California native and graduate of USC's Cinematic Arts school, Nona started her career as an assistant on such films as the Bad Robot production, Super 8. Her first foray as an editor on a "superhero" project came courtesy of showrunner Eric Kripke who brought her aboard the The Boys, where she would work with director Matt Shakman for the first time. Nona was twice nominted for an Emmy award for her work on Marvel's WandaVision, and nominated for another Emmy for Marvel's Ms. Marvel. TIM ROCHE Known for his work on comedy series like Silicon Valley and It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, as well as for his contributions to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, including WandaVision, Thor: Love and Thunder and She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, Tim has received five Emmy nominations for his work, including one this year for Welcom To Wrexham, a show that has already brought him an ACE Eddie Award. James Gunn's Superman held its premiere in London July, 2, where the director confidently told The Times of London that his superhero epic celebrates "the story of America" and champions basic human kindness in a world that desperately needs it. Meanwhile, star David Corenswet shared at the London premiere that his predecessors did “a very Superman thing,” with former Men of Steel Henry Cavill and Tyler Hoechlin encouraging him to make the role his own.Universal's Jurassic World Rebirth chomped its way to a $147 million five-day weekend opening during the Fourth of July. While those numbers would make any studio exec happy, they're actually a steep drop from the franchise's predecessors, suggesting that after 32 years, audiences might be experiencing some dino-fatigue. Universal clearly saw the writing on the wall and slashed the production budget from a mammoth $250 million down to a more modest $180 million, but the franchise is still roaring overseas. Australian-American actor Julian McMahon, beloved for his roles in Nip/Tuck, Charmed, and as Dr. Doom in the 2000's 20th Century Fox Fantastic Four films, died peacefully on July 2nd at age 56 following a private battle with cancer.Michael Madsen, the gravel-voiced character actor best known for his menacing roles in Quentin Tarantino's Reservoir Dogs, Kill Bill, and The Hateful Eight, died Thursday morning from cardiac arrest at his Malibu home at age 67.The next installment in Denis Villenueve's Dune franchise will officially be titled Dune: Three. Villenueve also revealed that the film will be shot entirely using IMAX cameras.According to a rumor from The DisInsider, Disney and LucasFilm are having active conversations planning a full reboot of the Indiana Jones franchise. The Last of Us co-creator Neil Druckmann is stepping down as co-showrunner of the HBO series after completing work on season two, choosing to return his focus to video game development at Naughty Dog including his next project Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet. Craig Mazin will continue as sole showrunner for season three, while Druckmann retains his executive producer credit on the critically acclaimed series. The Office star Craig Robinson announced on Instagram that he's officially quitting comedy to focus on his true calling. However, industry insiders believe this is likely a marketing stunt, as mysterious billboards have appeared in Los Angeles and Robinson still has comedy shows scheduled through the end of the year.Chris Pratt will reprise his role as the voice of Garfield in an animated sequel to Sony's 2024 The Garfield Movie, which grossed over $230 million dollars at the worldwide box office.Wicked director Jon M. Chu has signed on to helm a live-action Hot Wheels movie for Warner Bros. and Mattel Studios, with screenwriters Juel Taylor and Tony Rettenmaier from Creed II and They Cloned Tyrone penning the script and J.J. Abrams' Bad Robot producing. The high-octane action film follows Mattel's success with Barbie as the toy company continues mining its properties for big-screen adaptations.Jimmy Olsen actor Skyler Gisondo revealed he mistakenly believed he was auditioning for the title role in James Gunn's Superman film, thinking the character name in his audition materials was just a placeholder to hide the fact he was reading for Clark Kent. The mix-up led to an awkward phone call with his representatives who had to clarify who he was actually auditioning for, though director James Gunn reportedly loved the story.

Hey everyone! I just wanted to drop this quick bonus episode to let you guys know about another really exciting UFO docuseries coming out this Sunday, October 27th on MGM+ called Beyond: UFOs and the Unknown. This series from JJ Abrams' production company Bad Robot features Whitley Strieber, Jeff Kripal, Garry Nolan, Leslie Kean, Chris Mellon, Jay Christopher King, Tim Gallaudet, Mitch Horowitz, and many more. And hey, guess what? I'm in it, too. It looks like it's shaping up to be a fantastic show, and it is an absolute honor to be involved in this project next to so many people that I admire. In this episode, I sat down with Co-Executive Producer, Kevin Lincoln to hear more about the show and about the process that he and his team went through to bring this to life. I've been very impressed with Kevin and his team and how far they were willing to go to chase this story down all the strange rabbit holes that you find on this path. Kevin is a very intelligent and extremely well-read guy, and this was a fun conversation that made me even more excited to watch the show. —Kelly

Hosted by the ever-inquisitive Sister Ash and Sister Bella, this episode features a heartwarming and insightful conversation with the esteemed artist and creative director, Aaron Lea. Many of you might recognize Aaron from his incredibly detailed tour art for the band Ghost, where he transformed Papa into an Emperor Palpatine-like figure. But Aaron's artistic prowess doesn't stop there. He has collaborated with an impressive roster of big names, including Lucasfilm, Marvel Studios, Paramount, Liquid Death, Archie Comics, Bad Robot, Rob Zombie, Highly Suspect, and Spiritbox, among many others. Daredevil is not the only Netflix series confirmed now as MCU canon - the entire Defenders saga can be seen within the MCU Timeline on Disney+. This is a big deal for fans of the Netflix shows who have called for them to be canonized for years. The Defenders shows fit into the timeline starting with Daredevil after I Am Groot and ending with The Punisher before Doctor Strange. There's also a rumor Deborah Ann Wolf and Elden Hansen are set to return as Karen Page and Foggy Nelson in Daredevil: Born Again. Trekkies will soon see their favorite franchise back on the big screen with director Toby Haynes on the bridge in the captain's chair. Haynes recently directed several episodes of the Star Wars hit show Andor. With Seth Grahame-Smith writing and JJ Abrams' Bad Robot producing, it has been 8 years since the last Star Trek movie - though this one is to take place decades before the 2009 Star Trek movie plot. Paramount has had recent Star Trek success in the television world, streaming Strange New Worlds, Lower Decks, Picard, and Discovery. Though this prequel may not show the Chris Pine-led cast we are used to seeing, there are still plans to have a final movie with that crew in the future. We keep talking about Tom Cruise and now for an even bigger announcement…a Top Gun 3 movie is officially in development to bring back that loving feeling. Top Gun: Maverick writer Ethan Kruger is already writing for the new installment and sources report director Joe Kosinski will also be back to pilot the film. This news comes to us shortly after the partnership announced with Cruise and Warner Bros. Discovery. Top Gun: Maverick raked in an astounding $1.5 billion in 2022 and Cruise looks like he's willing to continue the legacy with a third film. Rumors are flying that DC Studios will begin their search for a Supergirl actress soon. In the mix for frontrunners we have Milly Aycock of house of the dragon, Emilia Jones from Coda and Locke and Key, and Meg Donnelly of the Zombies franchise and DC Animation where she plays supergirl. James Gunn and Peter Safran announced the Supergirl, Woman of Tomorrow movie in 2022 based on the comics by Tom King. Danny Boyle and Alex Garland, the director and writer of the 2002 zombie horror film 28 Days Later, are reuniting for 28 Years Later, a sequel to the original. The pair are hoping to launch a trilogy of films set in the universe. Game of Thrones creators David Benioff and Dan Weiss opened up for the first time about their canceled Star Wars movie in the cover story for last week's Hollywood Reporter, stating that the concept for their film dealt with the rise of the first Jedi and how the Jedi Order came to be. The Last of Us Season 2 has cast Beef star Young Mazino as Jesse. The series is expected to start production soon. Isabela Merced has also been cast as Dina. Barbie and Shang-Chi star Simu Liu will host the 2024 People's Choice Awards which will air live on NBC, E!, and Peacock on February 18. Director David Gordon Green, who was initially set to direct a sequel to last year's Exorcist: Believer titled Exorcist: Deceiver, has exited the project. Universal originally planned for the film to hit theaters on April 18, 2025, but the timetable is now unclear as the studio searches for a new director. Noah Hawley, the showrunner of the upcoming FX series "Alien," revealed in an interview that the series is set on Earth approximately 70 years in the future, preceding the events of the original film series. Despite discussions with Ridley Scott, Hawley explained that he won't incorporate the backstory from "Prometheus" and "Alien: Covenant" into his series, expressing a preference for the original films' retro-futuristic technology over the more advanced tech featured in the prequels.
Studio Soundtracks takes listeners behind the scenes of how music is crafted for film and television by hearing directly from composers, songwriters and music professionals in the Entertainment Industry. Listen to inspiring conversations about composition and hear works from Emmy, Grammy, and Oscar-winning film scores on the show. BRENDAN ANGELIDES Brendan Angelides' (formerly known as ESKMO) arrival at the world of scoring in 2016 was exactly the opportunity he had been hoping for. It felt conducive to the narrative process and sonic aesthetic he had developed in his work as a recording artist, being deeply in the mindset of The Echo Society, a collaborative of local Los Angeles artists and composer, at the time and recognizing the potential of his sound within a visual framework. Since 2016, Angelides has written the soundtracks for seven seasons of Billions, as well as Echoes (Netflix), Super Pumped (Showtime) and the 2021 film Naked Singularity. While scoring the four seasons of Netflix's celebrated 13 Reasons Why, he collaborated with Selena Gomez to produce a cover of Yazoo's “Only You.” In 2023, Angelides' embrace of new creative territories expands again as he presents his first video game score with Assassin's Creed: Mirage. Bringing his electronic artistry to the Ubisoft adventure set in ninth century Baghdad, Angelides worked with musicians connected with the region and culture including the New York Arabic Orchestra and Tunisian artist Emel Mathlouthi, whose viral protest song during the Arab Spring inspired the theme for Mirage's courageous female lead. The year also marks Angelides' most ambitious project with The Echo Society to date. Their soundtrack to director Darren Aronofsky's forthcoming film ‘Postcard from Earth' was showcased at the world's largest 4K screen at the Sphere, Las Vegas, across 160,000 speakers and 1600 subwoofers. NIMA FAKHRARA Iranian-born composer Nima Fakhrara has honed his craft for nearly twenty years by scoring more than 100 feature films, multiple AAA game franchises and international television shows, as well as crafting commercial music for boutique brands. This massive body of work led acclaimed director Anna Forester to tap Nima as composer for Bad Robot's latest feature film LOU (2022, starring Academy Award winner Allison Janney). His unique blend of East-meets-West and command of striking, sonic textures and timbres led gaming legend David Cage to select him to compose the music for 2018's wildly successful and critically acclaimed DETROIT BECOME HUMAN and the announcement to the Star Wars video game franchise ECLIPSE. Other gaming credits include WARHAMMER: SPACE MARINES 2, RESIDENT EVIL: REVELATIONS 2 and 1979 REVOLUTION. While his music is found all over the American media landscape, the composer's musical journey started back in Tehran at age five. Young Nima lugged his santur up six flights of stairs for each lesson with a master instructor. This early education imbued Fakhrara with a firm grasp of Persian classical music, an unyielding discipline, and a knack for complex rhythms. After moving to the Washington DC area at age 12, Fakhrara later earned a degree in composition from California State University while simultaneously studying ethnomusicology and Music Anthropology. Studio Soundtracks is made possible in part by the generous support of Spitfire Audio, makers of inspiring sounds and scoring tools for film, in collaboration with the world's best composers, musicians and engineers. Here's a throwback episode from way back in the vault from episode 157 with writer/director J.D. Dillard who was famously attached to a Star Wars feature and a Superman feature and was in development on a remake of The Fly for many years. In this conversation we talk about making his first feature Sleight which ended up premiring at Sundance and being released in theaters and made over $1 million dollars in theaters alone before going to streaming/DVD on a $250k budget. This was a really fun conversation then and I think it remains a great one now! If you like these throwback episodes give us a shout at podcast@makingmoviesishard.com and thanks for listening!
