In order for the culture to shift, a season of pruning must occur. This is normal and necessary. God wants our best and our response to discipline will lead the way.
As individuals shift, so goes the group. Join us as Pastor Matt continues to lead us toward the necessary Paradigm Shift at Believers Church.
Paradigm shifts begin with a personal shift. Courage, commitment, and desperation show us all how to move forward and shift the cultural. It all begins with prayer.
Paradigm shifts change the way we do things. Join us as Pastor Matt covers the importance of corporate prayer as the needed and necessary paradigm shift.
"How Railroaders Are Killed; Train Crews Grow Careless," read a 1906 syndicated article. "There is a kind of personality who is accident-prone," reported the Kansas City Star in 1944. Amazon's safety programs are "designed to keep its nearly one million warehouse workers worldwide fit and limber," The Seattle Times claimed in 2021. For well over a century, it's been standard practice for corporations, and the media more generally– echoing these "information campaigns" – to skirt, defy, or prevent regulations by shifting the burdens of protection and wellness onto relatively powerless workers. Just as corporations have historically shifted blame onto "consumers," as we discussed last week, so too have they shifted blame, and punishment, onto their own workers, at great social cost and much private profit. Of course, workers anywhere must bear some level of personal responsibility in matters of health and safety. But, as regulations have threatened their bottom lines, industries from railroads to retail, bolstered by US media, have seized upon this notion in order to render their workers the ones who bear ultimate responsibility for whether they're healthy or sick, safe or injured, and in the most extreme cases, whether they live or die. This is the second episode in a two-part series on what we're calling "The Great Neoliberal Burden Shift." Part I discussed how this burden shift harms consumers. On this episode, Part II, we examine this anti-regulatory PR strategy, looking at the past and present of corporate deflection of responsibility, how media enable this subtle – but effective – practice, and discuss how media campaigns and media coverage have let us internalize the pro-corporate effort to off-load responsibility for workplace health and safety from the bosses on to the workers. This episode was produced in collaboration with Workday Magazine. Our guest is the National Employment Law Project's Anastaia Christman.
“Choose the product best suited for baby,” Nestlé urged in a 1970s baby formula ad. “What size is your carbon footprint?” wondered oil giant BP in 2003. “Texting, music listening put distracted pedestrians at risk,” USA Today announced in 2012. These headlines and ad copy all offer a glimpse into a longstanding strategy among corporations: place the burdens of safety, health, and wellbeing on individuals, in order to deflect responsibility and regulation. Whether in the areas of transportation, climate, or nutrition and food safety, individuals, namely “consumers,” are increasingly expected to assume full responsibility for their own wellbeing, and are blamed, shamed, and punished–or worse, made ill or injured–when they can't live up to these unrealistic expectations. Sure, everyone must bear some level of personal responsibility in matters of health and safety, obviously. But corporations from Chrysler to Nestlé, in concert with a compliant US media, have taken advantage of this truism to place a disproportionate level of obligation onto the people who work in their warehouses and buy their products. At the same time, they've been able to fend off even the most minor of structural changes–say, using less plastic or healthier ingredients–with often dangerous, even deadly, consequences. This is Part I of a two-part series on what we're calling “The Great Neoliberal Burden Shift,” a process in which corporations deflect blame onto the relatively powerless. On this episode, we examine how corporations have shifted the burdens of liability onto “consumers” and other individuals, examining how the auto, fossil-fuel, and food and beverage industries have orchestrated media campaigns to frame the people they harm, whether directly or indirectly, as responsible for their own misfortunes. Our guest is journalist Jessie Singer. This episode was made in partnership with Workday Magazine.

Jan Spencer is guest-host today, his fourth time on Spirit in Action. talking about what he calls his Primer for Paradigm Shift – the needed way of seeing and thinking about the world in order to become sustainable and to leave our world-wrecking ways behind us.
Why does it seem so hard to do things the way God instructs us to? He has made it clear, right? He has given all of creation His general revelation. That is God's self-disclosure and self-communication in the universe and created world and reigns as King of all. (See Psalm 19:1-4; Romans 1:20) In other words, creation itself declares God exists. Humanity's moral code is part of our designs. But God has also given us Special Revelation. Special revelation is when God reveals Himself through miraculous means. These include God's physical appearance, dreams, visions, the written Word of God, and, most importantly, Jesus Christ. The Bible records God appearing in physical form many times (Genesis 3:8, 18:1; Exodus 3:1-4, 34:5-7), and God speaking to people through dreams (Genesis 28:12, 37:5; 1 Kings 3:5; Daniel 2) and visions (Genesis 15:1; Ezekiel 8:3-4; Daniel 7; 2 Corinthians 12:1-7).The reality is that any revelation of God leads to a paradigm shift or an affirmation. A paradigm is a standard, perspective, or set of ideas. We might call it the grid or lens that we process what we see, hear, and/or experience. Our paradigm is often passed on to us from others. It is the way we process our world and all that is in it. For example, having a Biblical worldview is a paradigm.A paradigm shift is not just a change in our perspective, it's a transformative journey that can profoundly impact our lives and the lives of those around us. This shift allows us to see things in a new, hopeful light and can open new opportunities and possibilities. By the way, you and I make these kinds of shifts all the time and may not even realize it.References for this week:Ephesians. 2:14–16John 10:14-161 Corinthians 12:13-14Gal. 3:28Col. 3:111 Cor. 12:13Eph. 2:14–22Ephesians. 3:14–151 Co 14:32–33-----Call us: 208.524.4747prayer@watersprings.netOnline Giving: https://watersprings.net/give.phpServe at Watersprings: https://watersprings.churchcenter.com...CCLI Streaming License: 20080252 Size ECCLI Copyright License: 1406906 Size FDISCLAIMER: Closed captioning and/or transcription is being provided solely for the convenience of our viewers. In part 2 of this podcast, James Lamdin and John Reardon dive deep into Patek Philippe watches. If you missed part 1, please listen – you won't regret it! This candid and fun conversation starts with James answering the cliff-hangar question from part 1: “What is the most overlooked category for vintage Patek Philippe collecting?” James's unexpected answer leads to an engaged and enlightening discussion about which Patek Philippe watches will become collector-darlings in the future. James reveals that his passion for Patek Philippe was ignited after visiting the Patek Philippe Museum in Geneva when he became fascinated with pocket watches. This opened the world of Patek Philippe and from there he became entranced with watches from the 1970s, 1950s and then the whole catalog over the company's 185-year-old history. As an interesting exercise, John shows James a Patek Philippe Catalog from 1985 and thumbing through, he realizes he is attracted to almost every piece! In the final Chapter of Nehemiah, we find that though the people of Jerusalem may live in a different era and culture than us today, in some ways they're really not all that different from us. They can engage in a holy moment with God and then return to their old ways once the moment has passed. The too are tempted to neglect God and His ways. Just as the people of Jerusalem we too need a savior. The good news is that we have one! Jesus has done the work, "It is finished," and we are redeemed through Him, our greater Nehemiah. The culture Nehemiah worked so hard to establish, only Jesus is truly able to do, changing not just our outward culture and behaviors, but our hearts.
In Nehemiah 12 we find God's people planning a celebration together ofwhat God has accomplished. They are also creating a strategic community of worship on purpose. Intentionality in thanking and praising God included consecration that would set them up well for celebration. The extravagant, joyful, all-inclusive worship event was exciting - and took a lot of coordination - but this would be more than a one-time event. They were setting up a pattern of worship that could continue. While the event amplified their sound across the region, the stewardship they were planning would help shift the culture, not just make a lot of noise. The joy they found would become fuel for their stewardship, and our gratefulness in the gospel will fuel a culture of worship and stewardship in our day as well.
God created you to experience life and freedom! Yet, most of us would say we sometimes feel powerless when facing trials and difficulties. What struggles are you going through right now? How do you find the strength you need—no matter what you're going through? If you're ready for new strength and a Perspective Shift—this is your moment! Pastor Steve Robinson at Church of the King has a powerful message that will help YOU live A Strong Life and respond well to trials!
In Nehemiah 11 the leaders of God's people choose to stay in Jerusalem not because it was a nice city with clean neighborhoods or great amenities. It actually wasn't. They stayed because they believed in what God was building there, and their choice to stay was a choice to build. The rest of the people of God came together for a key shift that also needed to happen. A literal tithe of the people, 10 %, were chosen to relocate to the city, and others above and beyond that volunteered. Everyone had a role to play in building the Holy City. As the people of God today, there is a challenge for us to take up the call to partner in what God is building. It's not just leaders with official titles, not only a select few, but all of us. Let's take our place in building and becoming the City of God, the radiant church of Jesus Christ.
Do you ever feel like life never works out the way you hoped? Do you feel stuck in life and even defeated? There's good news for you today! You don't have to live stuck and defeated. God gives you the ability to navigate your challenges and to live with supernatural peace and joy. Join Pastor Steve Robinson at Church of the King TODAY as we launch Perspective Shift, a journey to knowing Christ deeper and gaining practical tools for living life from God's perspective.

Building a culture that honors God and His Word takes time, but it's not an unrealistic, mysterious, or illusive dream. There are tangible shifts we can make in our lives, both individually and together as God's people, that help us align our real-life, day-to-day culture with God's word, character, and way of building. In Nehemiah 10, we see three specific shifts we are called to make as a people of faith: Giving faith precedence over our feelings, over our schedules and calendars, and over our finances. The declaration of God's people together, "We will not neglect the house of our God," is rightly heard as a challenge to us today, a call to renew our commitment to God's presence, God's people, and God's work through us.

Let's continue talking about the pros and cons of working night shift vs day shift as a new nurse. Get 20% off a Lecturio Nursing subscription with Discount Code: nursingschoolwbw20First up, on the day shift, there are more meds to give. So, that can be good if you're trying to practice your skills, but bad just because it's more work and it's going to take longer to do each of your med passes. Especially that first morning med pass. That's when the patients are getting the bulk of their medications. And you can have the full gamut of pills, IV bag meds, IV push meds, plus topical medications, all in one med pass, for one patient in the morning. So if you're doing that for 5 or 6 patients, for one med pass, that can take up a lot of your time and can be stressful to feel like you have to rush rush rush to get it done. And there were times, only on day shift, when I started my shift at 7am and it was 9:30-10am and I was being called away to do something else, and I'm like, “I can't. I still am not done with my morning med pass. You know, my meds are an hour and a half late.” And that's not ok, but I was just so busy that that's what the situation was honestly. And that was very stressful to me because I don't wanna be late on my med pass. I want to give my patients their meds when they're due because that's what's best for my patients. So it's very stressful when you feel like you're just one person, but you're being given the workload of three people. Especially when you're a new nurse. You know, maybe a seasoned nurse would not have been late giving those meds, but as a new nurse, that was just my reality. And that was very stressful. But yeah, on night shift, you typically have a lot less meds to give. And if you're in clinicals, you can look this up in your patient's orders, if you get a chance, just compare what medications they're getting during the day (especially that first morning med pass) versus what they're getting at night. And it's almost always a lot less at night.
