In 1979, heroin invaded Kenny's community in Dublin, and the singing stopped. He counted 440 funerals. But he and his wife Sharon were radically changed at the very same moment, and slowly but steadily fresh songs of hope are being sung again, be they by gangsters, drug-dealers, children and more. It's a stunning account of decades of faithfulness on the same patch, with the ripple effect spreading throughout Dublin and to the nations.Noel can be contacted at noel[@]libertychurch.ie Do check out libertychurch.ie And also one-day.co for the project in Lesotho---Support our work in Burundi: greatlakesoutreach.org/inspired ---Weekly episode WhatsApp link: greatlakesoutreach.org/whatsappWeekly email notification: greatlakesoutreach.org/inspiredemailFor more from Simon, visit: simonguillebaud.com---Produced by Great Lakes Outreach - Transforming Burundi & Beyond: greatlakesoutreach.org

Merry Christmas! 2020 has been a year filled with uncertainty and we face a strong temptation to seek control to re-establish our sense of certainty. The birth of Jesus, however, offers little in the way of certainty, but plenty in terms of hope. This is the focus of my reflection this Christmas. We pray that this Christmas you will choose to walk the path of hope rather than retreating to the fortress of certainty and that you find the courage and empathy to live in the flickering light of delicate hope in Jesus and his renewing and restoring work. Thanks so much for including us in your Christmas celebrations. Have a great Christmas and we hope you join us again in the new year. Merry Christmas! Is there someone you know who really needs to hear this message? In this week's message, we will be diving into Psalm 89, which reflects on the eternal promises of God to David's house and the tension of faith. The psalmist experiences as he tries to hold together these forever promises and the demise of the monarchy. While the precise nature of our tension may be different from that described in Psalm 89, we too face the discrepancy where faith and hope meet contrary experience, even though we celebrate the birth of Jesus and all that means for us, we still cry how long and remember these cries of the faithful are cries of hope.Declaring that we will allow the promises of God to define our reality. Is there someone you know who really needs to hear this message? This week we continue our Christmas series, Songs of Hope and have a look at the invitation for each of us found in Psalm 85.Will you make Psalm 85 your prayer this week? Thanking God for what he has done in the past, acknowledging our need for him to continue to work, listening for and reflecting upon what he has said and then looking for opportunities to participate as part of the advanced team preparing the way for the Lord. This week we begin a new series that will take us up to Christmas, entitled Songs of Hope, for the next few weeks will be returning to the Psalms and listening to the messages of hope that they contain. Today, our student Pastor, Brett Robinson kicks us off looking at Psalm 80.Hope begins in acknowledging why we need it in the first place. A lament might seem like a strange place to look for help, but as we bring our whole life to the Lord, knowing that he can restore, we place ourselves in a posture of hope. So, let us courageously acknowledge the disconnect between the promises of God and the world in which we live. Bringing our confusion, our pain and uncertainty to him placing our faith in him and his promises. Is there someone you know who really needs to hear this message? There was plenty of labor militancy in the U.S. in the early 20th century. Much of that militancy was met with violence; workers were brutalized and sometimes murdered for organizing to demand fair wages and decent working conditions. These sometimes life-and-death struggles were enshrined in song. Mat Callahan talks about the tunes he and Yvonne Moore have revived on a new CD and companion songbook. (Encore presentation.) There are times when I like to take the Take 5 on the road; heading to places where creative people gather, and the conversations around art and music are part and parcel of daily life. Dark Mofo in Hobart is one of those places. A festival set in the middle of winter, in the southernmost city in Australia. When the wind blows, it's coming from Antarctica. The streets light up with red crosses each night to signal some sort of curiosity you should explore within, there are open fires and pagan feasts, and there is music; curated in such a beautiful way it feels like a movement, like a moment. This is the place I met Kelsey Lu. Lu grew up in North Carolina, and was raised as a Jehovah's Witness. Early on, she found the cello, and connected deeply with the strings. She followed her heart, left home, and broke bonds with her family as she headed to New York City to follow her musical dreams. Through her 20's Kelsey Lu found her voice, she collaborated with Solange, and Sampha, she experienced heartache and pain, and she headed west to heal, and begin again. Across five beautiful choices, Lu shared her songs of hope. All women, all powerful, and all tied to the human and artist she has become. Settle in for a beautiful conversation, with Kelsey Lu.
