Significant advancements are expected on major flood relief projects in Clare this year. In a written parliamentary response to Meelick TD Cathal Crowe, Minister of State Kevin 'Boxer' Moran confirmed a detailed design for the construction of the Kilkee scheme will be completed in the coming months. Additionally, it's anticipated that planning permission will be sought for the €27m Shannon Flood Relief Scheme between October and December. Shannonbanks Sinn Féin Councillor James Ryan says the development is urgently needed.

Funding has been approved for two South Galway flood relief schemes. The OPW has allocated €13,600 for works at Circular Road Gort and €12,600 for works at Roo Tierneevin. It will cover works including installing a new embankment with a waterproof barrier layer and relocating the entryway. In addition a 20 metre low-level concrete wall will be constructed. It will also fund the maintenance of the existing open channel and removing silt and vegetation flowing into the Streamstown River. Galway East Independent Deputy Sean Canney says he hopes the works will begin early next year.

It's hoped legacy nightmare flooding issues will soon come to an end for businesses and residents of a West Clare community. It comes as Clare County Council has submitted a planning application to An Bórd Pleanála for a flood relief scheme for Kilkee. The proposed works will involve road reconstruction, the provision of flood defence walls and new embankments and will aim to protect 134 local properties from becoming engulfed by overflowing water from Victoria Stream. Former Kilkee Councillor Cillian Murphy says its a significant milestone for the town.
