It's World Piano Day! I've made several mixes over the years for Piano Day and each time I wonder if I'll find enough tracks for an interesting mix. And every year it comes together and surprises me with how much I like the finished set. This mix starts with a tune everyone should be familiar with - Eno's Music For Airports 1/2. This recording is by Bruce Brubaker from his fine EP - Eno Piano 2. To make things interesting I played two tracks from it simultaneously and I think it worked pretty well. While collecting tracks for the mix I was happy to find a piano album from Daniel Lanois. It's from 2022 and I had no idea it existed. I'm a big fan of the Necks so I was also excited to use one of their tracks for the first time. At least I think I've never used their music in a mix before. This is one of those mixes without a theme. It's just a way to highlight some new ambient tracks from the first two months of the year, although I cheated and used two from the end of 2024. I ended up using three tracks from the wonderful new label - Driftworks - https://driftworks.bandcamp.com/ I hadn't set out to highlight their new releases, but I'm glad I did because they are worth checking out. They are a sub-label from Whitelabrecs, a label whose artists I have featured in a lot of mixes over the years.

Today on the podcast I share another channelled meditation from The Spirit Sisters Retreat in Sedona. While we were there, we explored the Medicine Wheel with our guide. The Medicine Wheel, sometimes known as the Sacred Hoop, has been used by generations of various Native American tribes for health and healing. It embodies the Four Directions, as well as Father Sky, Mother Earth, and Spirit Tree—all of which symbolize dimensions of health and the cycles of life. The Medicine Wheel can take many different forms. It can be an artwork such as artifact or painting, or it can be a physical construction on the land. The medicine wheel we explored was made on the land of rocks and stones. Hundreds or even thousands of Medicine Wheels have been built on Native lands in North America over the last several centuries. Movement in the Medicine Wheel and in Native American ceremonies is circular, and typically in a clockwise, or “sun-wise” direction. This helps to align with the forces of Nature, such as gravity and the rising and setting of the Sun. Meanings of the Four Directions Different tribes interpret the Medicine Wheel differently. Each of the Four Directions (East, South, West, and North) is typically represented by a distinctive color, such as black, red, yellow, and white, which for some stands for the human races. The Directions can also represent: Stages of life: birth, youth, adult (or elder), death Seasons of the year: spring, summer, winter, fall Aspects of life: spiritual, emotional, intellectual, physical Elements of nature: fire (or sun), air, water, and earth Animals: Eagle, Bear, Wolf, Buffalo and many others Ceremonial plants: tobacco, sweet grass, sage, cedar Let us honor this tradition now……and prepare for ritual and meditation Stay connected with me for the next Spirit Sisters Retreat... https://www.tinaconroy.com Thank you for listening Many Blessings~A-Ho

Weekly round up of news on the left by the team and an interview as below.Interview with Gary Murray, an Aboriginal activist, regarding the Ballerrt Mooroop site in Glenroy MONEY remains the major sticking point in the transfer of the site of the former Ballerrt Mooroop college to Moreland Council. Both the State Government and the council have indicated a preference for the land to be preserved for community use and not sold for private development but an agreement seems far from imminent. The state-owned 2.4ha parcel of land was a school until closed in 2012. If a state department deems land surplus it then offers it to other state departments, before making it available to federal and local governments, with the price based on the Valuer-General Victoria’s valuation.GATHERING SAVE the BALLERRT MOOROOP SITE The Ballerrt Mooroop site is in danger of being sold off to private developers. If this happens we would lose a site of significance for Aboriginal people. There is a campaign to save the Ballerrt Mooroop site for a Gathering Place and a First Nations Community Hub. There is also a Spirit Tree and Ceremonial Ground on the site.
