In this week's episode, I'm joined by Brooke Schmidt, MA, LMFT as we discuss how our inner teen can sometimes take over in our responses as an adult. Brooke Schmidt is a licensed therapist and married mom of 3 who can relate firsthand to the joys and struggles of marriage and parenting! She can't stand watching couples live in "stable misery" which is why she's so passionate about helping people better understand themselves so that they can stop generational patterns and learn how to cultivate more relational joy! When you find yourself feeling irritated or defensive in your relationships, there's a chance your adaptive teenage self is competing with your functional adult self. Brooke and I talk about specific examples that you will find relatable. You will leave this episode thinking about your teenage years and how it potentially impacts your functional adult self.Be sure to check out Brooke Schmidt!Brooke's InstagramBrooke's WebsiteBrooke's Free Workbook on Breaking Generational PatternsLet's Connect: Follow over on Instagram: @experiencemotherhood GET MY WEEKLY EMAIL Discover YOU again after kids by Joining the Experience Identity Waitlist Get access to other resources over at https://www.experiencemotherhood.com/resources -->Take one minute to subscribe, rate and review the podcast! The 90s were an important time for television. We were heading away from the family sitcom and starting to see more programming aimed directly at teens. If you were a fan of 90210, Party of Five, or My So Called Life, (let's not forget Canada and Degrassi, Ready or Not, and Fifteen) then tune in and hear us talk about this important time in television history.
Daniel and Kim discuss some of the modern queer teen shows we have today, such as Sex Education or Generation. They discuss how shows like Glee and Pretty Little Liars paved the way for this, and what representation they want in the future.
Joss and Jen are fangirling a bit today when Clayton Snyder from Lizzie McGuire joins them on the podcast. Clayton talks all about his journey as a young kid joining the cast, filming The Lizzie McGuire Movie, and moving on from acting to have a normal teenage life. This episode has lots of laughs so hope you all enjoy!Follow Influence @Influencethepod@JenNug@Joss.Richard
Beanie Feldstein totally Mariah Carey'd Lea Michele. Jonah Hill has asked fans to stop talking about his body, whether they mean well or not. AND we're talking with a couple of teens from This Teenage Life about which TV shows they think do a good (and bad) job of depicting the teen experience. Mel and Nic discuss their favorite tv shows they discovered during their teen years.
There has never been a time in my life when I didn't love Halloween. As a small child, I loved everything about the season. I relished the autumnal walks my mother would take me on to our local 5 & 10 store, where it was appropriately decked out in witch window clings, stuffed black cats, and pumpkins galore. I loved picking out a costume each year, and I especially loved trick-or-treating. I'll never forget the last year I went.
Sasheer Zamata (comedian, SNL) joins Sophie to talk about her obsession with teen shows, and Sophie talks about her obsession with Marilyn Monroe.

Because Neon Clubhouse is like the "Cosmo of Teen Shows," this episode touches on some rather adult material. The girls, however, may not 100% understand what they are talking about. So, yeah, they're totally like Cosmopolitan magazine - grown and clueless. With their guest Kennedy Fay, they ask some tough questions, like "Are bras for men?" and "Can you put a bone in the dishwasher?" The Neon Clubhouse tapes are totally rad 1980s-set coming-of-age improvised recordings featuring funny female friends. This episode features special guest comedian Rochelle McConico as Kennedy Fay, along with the regular cast of Erica Carrington as (almost) Dr. Olivia Brownstone, Carrie Moulder as Susan Beth Handler, Hallie Sheck as Virginia Danielle "Gina" Walker, and Maggie White as Mary Joseph Owen.
