"Alice" is a sitcom that aired on CBS from 1976-1985. The show is based on the 1974 Martin Scorsese film, "Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore". The story follows Alice Hyatt, a widow who moves from New Jersey to Phoenix, Arizona, with her son, Tommy. She then takes a job at a roadside eatery named Mel's Diner. One of the show's catchphrases, "Kiss my grits!" remains a part of the cultural lexicon. The show was a ratings success, especially during its early seasons. Alice's nine season run made it one of the longer-running sitcoms of the '70s and '80s. Despite having such a long run the show didn't recieve much syndication and is rarely seen modern day. Will this show hold up with the S1E1 boys nearly 50 years since the show premiered? Listen as they deep dive the show's pilot episode. Starring: Linda Lavin, Vic Tayback, Beth Howland, Polly Holliday, Dennis Dugan, Arthur Space, & Alfred Lutter III www.S1E1POD.com Instagram & X (Twitter): @S1E1POD

We're gonna pick up where we left off and 'Ol Vic is gonna hit big with the character that he's best remembered for...Mel Sharples.  We'll also weave our way through his credits of the late 70's and 80's.  Get a pen and paper and take notes, because we're gonna list all of the SUPERSTAR actors he worked with on The Love Boat while also discussing the demise of the band Berlin, the crappy movies pumped out by The Cannon Group, Mary Catherine Gallagher's TV Movie monologue, and Telly Savalas's infamous appearance on Alice.  We'll also relax to the soothing sounds of the intro theme for "Medical Center".  It's fun.  I promise.

Vic Tayback was such a stud that he deserves TWO episodes of Fanacek.  This is the first and we're gonna discuss his early career from its beginning in 1958 until the end of 1973.  During this time, Vic did classic TV like Rawhide, The Man From U.N.C.L.E., That Girl!, and Mission Impossible.  He also did 3 McQueen movies: Love With A Proper Stranger, Bullitt, and Papillon.  And, like everyone else, he did WTF stuff that we'll shine a light on.  As we weave through his career, we'll also touch on such fare as inappropriate reactions to young Natalie Portman and Reese Witherspoon, 70s tough guy actors doing biblical projects, hobo culture, and my longing for good old fashioned TV movies.  Enjoy with a nice whiskey drink.

Put your choppers down, that's no way to treat our special guest for our 50th podcast episode of "Enterprise Incidents!" We excited to be joined by respected entertainment journalist and acclaimed author Ed Gross, who shares his archive interview with "A Piece of the Action" director (and legendary TV producer) James Komack. A hundred years after being visited by an Earth vessel, the Enterprise arrives at the planet Sigma Iotia II, where it discovers a world steeped in chaos and run entirely by gangsters. During their investigation into the cause of this parallel culture, Captain Kirk, Mr. Spock and Dr. McCoy are captured by notorious crime boss Bela Okmyx, who wants a hundred phasers (or "heaters") to knock off the other bosses and take full control. That's when they discover the root of the contamination: a book left behind by the previous ship called "Chicago Mobs of the 1920s." In an effort to clean up their mess and unify the planet, Captain Kirk realizes that the best way to reason with the Iotians is to speak their language, which he attempts to do with often humorous results. "The Trouble with Tribbles" may be the most popular of the comedic "Star Trek" episodes, but "A Piece of the Action" is the bigger fan-favorite, because it's the coolest. It's also the most irresistible, thanks to game performances by William Shatner and Leonard Nimoy, not to mention guest stars Anthony Caruso and Vic Tayback, who are clearly having a ball. As a result, you'd be hard-pressed to find a more fun and gleefully-entertaining episode of "Star Trek" than "A Piece of the Action." In fact, the odds are astronomical -- except at night, on Tuesday. Right? From out of the blue, came TWO movies that star Vic Tayback AND Gloria Grahame, so we had to feature them on the podcast this time. We start off with 1976's Mansion of the Doomed, which stars Richard Basehart as a CRAZY eye surgeon who's lovely young daughter has gone blind following a car accident. He makes it his mission to restore her sight, no matter how high the karmic debt is. It is dark and twisted and exceedingly grim...we loved it! We follow that up with 1971's Blood and Lace, which stars the gorgeous Melody Patterson as Ellie Masters, who's mother is viciously murdered with a hammer in the opening moments of the film, leading to her becoming and orphan and "ward of the state". She ends up in an orphanage that is more of a prison camp with a lot of sinister stuff going on behind the scenes. Frequently considered the most transgressive PG-rated film ever released, this one is a shocker in the best possible ways. We loved it too!  Please send us your thoughts by writing to flickersfrom@yahoo.com or flickersfrom@gmail.com. You can also send us messages via Facebook, Twitter or Instagram!

Ellen Burstyn won her Oscar for Best Actress for her powerful turn as Alice Hyatt in Martin Scorsese's 1974 film “Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore,” and it was clearly well-deserved. Always an actress in pursuit of roles as strong female characters, Burstyn took this film on after her huge success with “The Exorcist.” Join us — Pete Wright and Andy Nelson — as we start our Ellen Burstyn series with “Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore.” We talk about the film as a whole, looking at the journey this widow takes with her son told in a very realistic, gritty, yet comedic way. We discuss Burstyn in the role as Alice, along with other actors in the film including Kris Kristofferson, Diane Ladd, Vic Tayback, Valerie Curtin, Alfred Lutter and Harvey Keitel, and look at what they each bring to the table. We chat about Scorsese, making his fourth film here, and look at how this film fits in his body of work. And we talk about the brilliant moments scattered throughout the film — as well as a few key moments that feel like there could've been a bit more to the script. It's a great film that, while we don't love it, certainly has a lot to appreciate, and we have a great time talking about it this week. Tune in! Hey! You know what would be awesome?
