Rita Cosby dissects a shocking political upset in Florida. The episode features an interview with New Jersey Republican Senate candidate Justin Murphy, who claims the rising DSA movement represents "the mask removed" off the Democratic Party, as well as heated listener debates on progressive strategy and the "stranger danger" of drag queen story hours. Finally, the show takes a surprisingly lighthearted detour to debate the origins of the Beach Boys' hit song "Kokomo."

Italian Wines in Sonoma County with Mark Orsi | Festa Italia di Healdsburg Wine When and Where Podcast Guest: Mark Orsi, Orsi Family Vineyards What Italian grape varieties grow in Sonoma County? Why are grapes like Sangiovese, Barbera, Aglianico, Negroamaro and Sagrantino finding a home in Northern California? And where can wine lovers taste Italian varietal wines from dozens of California producers in one place? In this episode of the Wine When and Where Podcast, we sit down with Mark Orsi of Orsi Family Vineyards in Healdsburg, California, to explore Italian wine in Sonoma County, the region's Italian-American wine heritage and the story behind Festa Italia di Healdsburg, an annual celebration of Italian grape varieties, wine, food and culture. In This Episode Mark shares why Sonoma County is particularly well suited to Italian grape varieties and how his own Italian heritage inspired the wines grown at Orsi Family Vineyards. We talk about: Why Sonoma County has become an unexpected home for Italian grape varieties The Italian immigrant families who helped shape Healdsburg and Sonoma County wine history The 13 Italian grape varieties grown by Orsi Family Vineyards Familiar Italian wines including Sangiovese and Barbera Lesser-known grapes including Biancolella, Schioppettino, Negroamaro and Aglianico Why Italian wines are so naturally suited to food Which Italian wines might appeal to Cabernet Sauvignon drinkers Why Mark believes Aglianico deserves more attention The story behind Festa Italia di Healdsburg and Mark's goal of introducing more wine lovers to Italian varietal wines grown in California What Is Festa Italia di Healdsburg? Festa Italia di Healdsburg is an Italian wine festival held at Orsi Family Vineyards in Healdsburg, Sonoma County. Hard pass. Favorite pasta pairing? Cacio e pepe with...anything. Most underrated Italian grape? Aglianico. What Italian wine could convert a Cabernet drinker? Sagrantino. Most overrated wine trend? Orange wines — the hype, not necessarily the wine itself. Dream celebrity spokesperson for Italian wine? George Clooney. Consider this his official invitation.   Mark Orsi's Cacio e Pepe Recipe Looking for a simple pasta to pair with Italian wine? Mark shares his recipe for cacio e pepe, the classic Roman pasta made with Parmigiano-Reggiano and black pepper. Ingredients 2 tablespoons whole black peppercorns 4 1/2 cups finely grated Pecorino Romano, plus more for serving 1 1/2 cups finely grated Parmigiano-Reggiano 1 pound dried tonnarelli   Directions1) Bring a large pot of water to a boil. (Do not add salt)  2) Meanwhile, in a very large nonstick skillet or pot set over high heat, toast the peppercorns just until fragrant. Let cool, then grind or crush very coarsely. Reserve 1 teaspoon for serving. 3) In the same skillet or pot, combine the cheeses and remaining pepper. Add 1 ½ cups warm water and stir to make a thick pecorino cream. 4) Add the pasta to the boiling water and stir. Keep the heat very high until the water returns to a boil, then stir again and adjust the heat as needed to keep the water bubbling. Set a timer for 8 minutes. 5) Set the pecorino cream over very low heat. 6) When the timer goes off, scoop out about ½ cup of the pasta cooking water and set aside. Taste the pasta and continue cooking until the pasta is done to your liking. 7) Drain pasta very well (this is important, as adding too much hot water can cause the cheese to clump) and add to the pecorino cream. Use tongs or two forks to stir, turn and toss the pasta in the sauce over low heat until the cheese melts and the sauce becomes sticky. Don't add any water yet, just keep tossing. To test, squeeze a drop of sauce between your thumb and finger. When the sauce is thick and forms strings like glue, it is ready. 8) If it starts to dry out, add cooking water, 1 tablespoon at a time, and toss thoroughly before adding more. Twist the pasta into a nest, if desired. 9) Dust with additional pecorino and the reserved pepper. 10) Serve immediately with a glass of Italian wine, preferably Orsi   Hugo Spritz Recipe For another taste of Italy at home, make a refreshing Hugo Spritz with Prosecco, elderflower liqueur and fresh mint. Ingredients 4–5 fresh mint leaves ½–1 ounce elderflower liqueur, such as St-Germain 4 ounces chilled Prosecco 1 ounce club soda or sparkling water Ice Lime wheel or lemon slice for garnish Instructions Place the mint leaves in a large wine glass. Gently press the mint with a muddler or spoon to release its aroma. Fill the glass with ice. Add elderflower liqueur, followed by Prosecco and club soda. Stir gently. Garnish with lime or lemon and serve. About Orsi Family Vineyards Orsi Family Vineyards is a Healdsburg winery specializing in Italian grape varieties grown in Sonoma County. Listen. Do you hear that? Those are crickets. Crickets at the Marriott Suites O'Hare, abandoned site of Chicago's Fest for Beatles Fans. Unfortunately, there are no humans at this year's festival as it has been postponed to retool. #KitO'ReToole Some of the crickets are in ill-fitting Sgt Pepper costumes, others don obscure Beatles ephemera while wacking tambos to off-key “Yellow Submarine” singalongs, and a small number of lonely small-minded crickets are still wearing their pit-stained anti-Yoko t-shirts, repping for the original incels. Oh and look! There's even an aphid who's a Pete Best Look-A-Like and a corn weevil that's dressed up like Freddy Krueger for reasons unknown. As all the bugs scramble for crumbs of pre-packaged microwaveable hoagies while waiting for “Termites from Midge Ure's Tour Bus” to perform a medley of deep cuts from Press To Play, the Goys of Dum Dum Lame, joined by Producer Casey, are here to gab sad about this year's absence of fab community celebration. Let's take a few questions from the crickets:

:  In this episode of Sew & So, we're joined by Dr. Cindie Husbands, founder of the American Tailors and Sewing Association. Few people can say they've been a professional mime at SeaWorld, designed award-winning bridal veils, produced performances at Carnegie Hall, Broadway Theatre, and the Sydney Olympics, built dance studios, manufactured casino uniforms in Las Vegas, launched a company that produced antimicrobial masks during the pandemic, and then founded a national organization to transform the future of tailoring in America. But Dr. Cindie Husbands can. Every chapter of her extraordinary life has been connected by one constant—sewing. From learning to sew as a young girl to building businesses across the country, Cindie has embraced every opportunity that came her way. Today, as founder of the American Tailors and Sewing Association, she's on a mission to address the growing shortage of skilled sewists, establish professional standards for the tailoring industry, and create new pathways for people to build meaningful careers through sewing. Join us for an inspiring conversation about entrepreneurship, reinvention, and why sewing isn't just a craft—it's a skill that can truly change lives.   (3:00) How did Cindie first learn to sew and who was her inspiration? (4:40) What's the first item she created and does she still have it? (4:55) Cindie takes us on a ride with her through the journey to where she is today. Hear about the now famous people she still knows from high school and why she became a mime at Sea World. Buckle-up…this is amazing! Hear about Carnage Hall, the Sydney Olympics, Alaska, Las Vegas, Casino Uniforms, Kokomo, IN, the realization that she had gone to high school with her husband and more! And in all of this…she earned her Doctorate Degree! (21:26) Hear about the performances she's produced and which are her favorites. (22:20) Cindie talks about why quilting in Alaska is so pervasive and why quilting became important to her (25:46) Her daughter Amber owns Volcano View in Homer, AK. (26:08) What sewing projects are the most meaningful to her? (28:00) Cindie talks about the disconnect in the sewing industry and why she started the American Tailors and Sewing Association. And…the dearth of standards and sewists to work for fashion companies and tailoring. (32:00) Why haven't standards and pathways been addressed until now? (34:00) There is a resurgence in the interest of tailoring…but not enough people in the workforce to do the work. She explains what can be done about it. (36:08) Have the large stores been supportive of her efforts? (37:56) What are the goals of the Association? And her vision for the future of the industry? (39:20) Learn about her plans for Mobile Sew Labs created to help people reinvent themselves. (41:00) Cindie has “sewing can be a business at almost any level”. What does she mean by this? (43:00) Americantailor.org (43:08) What's next for Cindie? (44:05) What's her dream? (44:50) Is there a question we didn't ask? (45:40) You can reach out to Cindie go to Americantailor.org. Rabbi Moshe, also known as Roosevelt Solomon Jr., was born in 1952. Much of his career has been in Kokomo, Indiana. Initially, he grew up to become a Baptist minister. During his time in the pulpit, he traveled to Israel and experienced a vision that established a personal connection to Judaism. Following this revelation, he converted to Judaism under the guidance of Manhattan's unaffiliated New Synagogue. In Kokomo, Roosevelt Solomon Jr., the son of a minister, entered the ministry at a young age. Now known as Rabbi Moshe, he founded Congregation Yeshivat Tzion around 2014 with the unique goal of converting others to Judaism in the spirit of “Jewish unity.” He describes his synagogue's tradition as Sephardic, neo-Hasidic, post-racial, and post-ethnic and Zionist, with many members observing kosher dietary laws. Soul food has also significantly influenced the synagogue's culinary offerings. Some of the synagogue's melodies are influenced by Black American musical traditions, as noted in the Artscroll Orthodox Prayer Book.

Mixtape Rewind: Season 1 Listener Built Summer Playlist

Super Awesome Mix

This week's Mixtape Rewind takes us back to Season 1 when Instagram picked our summer soundtrack, and we just tried to keep up. We asked listeners to send their best summer songs, then built a real mixtape out of the chaos: 12 tracks that feel like heat haze, long evenings, and that first day when summer finally clicks into place. Along the way, we shout out the people who submitted picks and admit where we couldn't resist sneaking in a few of our own.The fun part is how quickly “summer music” stops being simple. We get nostalgic with LFO's “Summer Girls” and the oddly unforgettable lyrics that still scream 1999, then jump to Sylvan Esso's “Rooftop Dancing” and talk about why rooftops are basically the city version of a pool. Weezer's “Feels Like Summer” brings that bittersweet edge, and from there we keep pulling on the thread of sunny songs that hide something darker underneath.Lorde's “Solar Power” nails the new-release summer vibe, The Kinks' “Sunny Afternoon” turns out to be way more cynical than it sounds, and Childish Gambino's “Feels Like Summer” smuggles climate change anxiety into a laid-back groove. We round it out with true summer essentials like DJ Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince's “Summertime,” a pure-pop hit from Owl City and Carly Rae Jepsen, a “Constructive Summer” pep talk from The Hold Steady, and a cover-song detour with The Ataris and “Kokomo” before Poison closes the night with “Nothing But A Good Time.”One more tease: there's no Bruce Springsteen on the main mix, and yes, we noticed. Listen in to learn about this latest novel and what you can look forward to next! note: links may be affiliate links that provide me with a small commission at no extra expense to you. Another song, another story, another piece of the Weather Girls Wedding Shop and Venue series.  You'll love hearing about the history of Kokomo and all the fun things that go on in there! Pieces of April by Jennifer Lynn Cary  April Mathers wants to move forward. She can't undo her impulsive high school blunder, so she keeps her head down, works hard, and prays for that long-awaited promotion. She's cautious—even about the friends she chooses. Then her next-door neighbor sublets her apartment to the one person capable of blowing up April's world by repeating words that once shattered her. Except he doesn't remember saying them. In fact, he doesn't remember her. Viet Nam vet Paul Romer has returned home hoping a support group can help him make peace with his permanent amnesia. All he has from before are flashes of a girl. Then he finds her. She lives next door. And she definitely knows something—something not good. Their chemistry is real, the tension tangled, and the secret between them is as stable as six-inch platform shoes. When the truth comes out, will it destroy their fragile beginning, or give them a future worth remembering? Return to 1974 Kokomo, Indiana, where faith, love, and a legendary cardinal in a sycamore tree might fit all the pieces into place. You'll swoon for this sweet, quirky, romantic tale of second chances, because sometimes sharing all the pieces of your heart is the only way to put it back together. (16:54 - 17:54) Rain or shine, Sydney and her sisters are prepared for events, enjoying the wines and connecting with winemakers like Susie Selby. This week we're flipping bottles, sliding across the bar, and leaning into the high-octane neon cheese of the 1988 classic, Cocktail! We're joining Brian Flanagan and Doug Coughlin as they master the art of flair bartending and chase the "Organization Man" dream from the Upper East Side to the beaches of Jamaica. We'll discuss Tom Cruise's megawatt grin, the legendary "Coughlin's Law," and whether this movie is a cautionary tale or just a two-hour music video for "Kokomo."To celebrate the film that practically invented the "celebrity bartender" trope, we're shaking up a drink that looks exactly like a tropical vacation in a glass: The Turquoise Blue. This vibrant, island-inspired cocktail captures the 80s aesthetic perfectly with its stunning ocean hue.So, grab your tins, practice your behind-the-back tosses (at your own risk), and get ready to raise a glass to the film that made us all want to open a bar called Cocktails & Dreams: Cocktail!Merch ShopPatreonInstagramBlueskyFacebookhttps://www.drinkthemovies.comYouTubeDiscord*Please Drink Responsibly*

Sunday, May 25th, 1980 -- Kokomo, Indiana.  Twenty-nine year old special education teacher Janet Shirar doesn't show up for a pre-planned family gathering and birthday party for her nephew.  After multiple calls to her apartment go unanswered, her mother, stepfather and friend arrive to check on her.  They find her car in the parking lot, the door slightly ajar and her apartment cloaked in darkness.Entering, they notice several concerning details and items out of place.  A small, bloody handprint is clearly visible on the wall beside her bedroom door.  As they approached the bedroom, their eyes were drawn to the open bathroom door and there, lying face down on the cold tile floor, they discovered Janet's lifeless body.  She had been the victim of a vicious knife attack.Over the course of the next sixteen months, investigators commit all of their time and energy to tracking an unidentified woman who has made bizarre statements about the crime and, possibly, her involvement it.  However, when the case becomes a political issue, a debate between the prosecutor's office and detectives leaves the family with neither answers nor justice.  More than forty-five years later, the truth remains obscured and Janet's killer continues to walk free.Follow Trace Evidence on Social MediaTwitter --- Instagram --- TikTok --- YouTube --- Like Facebook Page --- Join Facebook Group --- Threads --- Like MeWe Page --- Join MeWe Group --- BlueskySuppport Trace EvidencePatreon --- Paypal --- Cash App --- Buy Me A CoffeeTrace Evidence Merch ShopsTeePublic --- ShopTEPod --- SpreadshopAll Other LinksOfficial Trace Evidence Website --- LinkTreeMusic Courtesy of:"Lost Time"  Kevin MacLeod (incompetech.com) Licensed under Creative Commons: By Attribution 3.0 License http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/3.0/"Echoes of Time" Kevin MacLeod (incompetech.com) Licensed under Creative Commons: By Attribution 3.0 License http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/3.0/"Galactic Rap" Kevin MacLeod (incompetech.com) Licensed under Creative Commons: By Attribution 3.0 License http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/3.0/#truecrimepodcast #unsolvedmysteries #coldcase #coldcaseinvestigation #murder #murdermystery #missingperson #missingpersons #truecrimecommunity #mysterypodcast #truecrime #coldcasefiles #truecrimestories #crimelovers #truecrimeaddict #truecrimejunkie #crimescene #justiceforall #missing #crimesquad #podcastcommunity #sleuthsunite #darkhistories #criminalmindset #detective #detectivediaries #forensics #forensicfiles #crimestories #crimepodcast #traceevidence #traceevidencepodcast #criminalinvestigation #justiceforvictims #detectivework #truecrimediscussion #podcastfamily #listenandsolve #crimefans #listentotraceevidence #uncoverthetruth #podcastrecommendations #podcastlove #podcastlife #truecrimeobsessed #followtheclues #cluefinders #podcastaddict #unsolvedmurders #unsolveddisappearances #detectiveatheart #jointheinvestigation #disappearance #vanishing #abduction #gonemissing #upandvanished #pacheco #stevenpacheco #podcasting #crimetalk #crimeanalysis #theories #janetshirar #shirar #kokomo #indianaunsolved #realcrimes #disappeared #evidenceBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/trace-evidence--3207798/support.
