Welcome to episode 125! It's still June! Which means it's still Pride month! And we took a look at Wandering Son. In this anime, two teenagers struggle with their gender identities. And as you might guess, it's a bit messy. And unfortunately, not currently available on any streaming service. Another pride month pick - this time an anime centered on two trans kids: Wandering Son. From ~10 years ago, no less. We also talk about Rocko's Modern Life, Batman, The Powerpuff Girls, "metrosexual," and the parable of the prodigal son. We like to make a special episode each June for our listeners who celebrate Pride Month by focusing our critical lens on a piece of media (be it anime, manga, or game) that puts LGBTQIA+ groups in the spotlight and this year we chose Wandering Son or Hourou Musuko, the story of a young trans woman and her transformation in her blooming years of middle school as she deals with love, drama, and friendship. Of course we can't do it alone (I say we but Audrey hasn't come back from her training or journey of self discovery or whatever I'm calling it this week) so we got our friend Sinful Scientist to join in since he has a lot to say about this anime and had kind of a hand in introducing it to us? He uses my Crunchyroll so I can see what he watches and he watched this like forever ago. Anyways, they Vtube and that's cool so we're cool by the transitive property, you know? We also discuss other LGBTQIA+ stories and manga but we really just kind of spew tangents but hey! It's a solid episode, I think. I'm a pretty good judge of my own character. I'm like a 6.5 out of 10. That's how you know I'm not a liar because I didn't give myself the 10 out of 10 that I deserve. In which we discuss LGBTQ characters! That's right, two episodes for Pride Month dedicated to...Pride Month stuff! I'm not good with words!Hopefully people have been following along with our Facebook all month in which we've been posting a character a day in a spotlight (sometimes you get bonus characters)! Anyway, if you're not aware of the Facebook page, well have I got some news for you! Otherwise, we do have a Twitter, but we haven't used it for much. We find it easier to dump info on Facebook than Twitter. But that doesn't mean you can't reach us there! Listen and grow with us as we dive into one of Jesus' most famous parable, the Prodigal Son. In this first part, we cover the relationship of the prodigal son and his incredibly loving father. We will see the link between this amazing father, and the even more gracious Father in heaven we have!

Time to expose the TRUTH about the Cal Arts style. THIS WEEK: Sarah has a conversation with nonbinary artist Kallen Chi (they/them), a graduate of Cal Arts and a professional cartoonist and animator. We discuss what got them into animation, the intersections of the transmasculine and transfeminine experience, the difficulties of discussing gender with your family, the importance of finding friends, and the misconceptions of hormone replacement therapy for transmasculine people. ALSO: Kallen brought a list of notable genderqueering media and creators, and among these we tackle Evangelion, Persona 4, Wandering Son, and My Lesbian Experience With Loneliness.----Find Kallen on twitter @kallenchiThe boards for "Catcall:" https://kchiportfolio.weebly.com/story-portfolio.htmlKallen's portfolio: https://kchiportfolio.weebly.com/The episode where I answered Kallen's original question is titled This Is Just An Advice Show Now.----Do you have questions, stories, or other gender-related gripes you want to share?Email us at TransQuestioningPodcast@gmail.com, or send an anonymous message to curiouscat.me/transquestioningSupport Sarah at Patreon.com/LTAS or give a one-time donation at ko-fi.com/sarahzFor podcast updates, follow@TransQPodcastYou can find Sarah @hmsnofunINTRO AND OUTRO MUSIC is the Mii Channel Theme JAZZ COVER by insaneintherainmusic.COVER ART is by the wonderful Emilee Bumgarner. If you are in crisis or just need a shoulder to cry on, please contact the Trans Lifeline for support at Translifeline.org.

This week Seamus is back from his Chicago vacation, dakazu gushes over the current series by Wandering Son manga artist called Musume no Iede(I’m a Runaway Girl) for interweaving various character relationships, and we continue our thoughts of the March Comes in like a Lion and Yuri!!! on Ice anime! Then we jump into another Manga in Motion pick with Redline! We try to dissect this chaotic mess of a movie and breakdown all the references to other anime it crams into it’s 102 minute running time!!!
Marc starts off this week's show talking about their upset tummy before talking about the only new Amazon Prime pilot that matters, Jean-Claude Van Johnson, which is followed by some general love for all things JCVD (and the movie, JCVD). After that, Marc talks about the seasonal anime they're still watching--including a smidgen of hate for Re:Zero--followed by the two series they watched over the last week: Gurren Lagann and Wandering Son. Then, Marc ends it all with a couple games, including the incredibly controversial No Man's Sky, and a talk about game prices, worth/value, and all that thought-provoking jazz. Cheers and enjoy the show.

Given the recent wave of news and attention I figured that people should probably know about this manga. The property got kind of famous among, I guess you could say, a fringe group of Noitamina fans years ago and I plan on doing a proper review of the anime, but since I have it, I […]

Brian discusses the character of The Wandering Son in relation to the extravagant love of the Father that always welcomes us home.
This week dakazu learns about Ainu eating habits in Golden Kamuy before have one final rant about Bunny Drop. Afterwords we have our newly named Triple Dip section! This time we take a look at 1 volume each of Wandering Son, Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind, and Buddha!
It's the beginning of the month, and that means it's time again for Derek and Andy to take a gander at the latest Previews catalog. In June, the guys notice a whole slew of upcoming releases to anticipate, including new series and books from Dark Horse (the new Dark Horse Presents series, Edgar Allan Poe's Spirits of the Dead, and Pop), DC/Vertigo (Multiversity and Punk Rock Jesus: Deluxe Edition), IDW (Cerebus: High Society, Digital Audio/Visual Experience), Image (The Fade Out, Imperial, and Displaced Persons), Abstract Studios (SIP Kids), BOOM!/Archaia (The Collector), Dynamite (Terminal Hero and Captain Victory and the Galactic Rangers), Drawn and Quarterly (Earthling), Fantagraphics (Love and Rockets: New Stoires #7 and Wandering Son, Vol. 7), First Second (How the World Was: A California Childhood), and Liveright (Kill My Mother). Also in this episode, Andy avoids Dynamite's Steampunk Battlestar Galactica: 1880 like the plague, Derek is called out on his strict “no li'l comics” policy, and the Two Guys learn that they are embraced by the Internet's spanking community.
Oh wow, this episode sounds dramatically better than all the other episodes. Although there is crickets just chirping without any fucks in the background…. so that is a thing. Other than the random rambling in the beginning, I devote most of the episode to discussing gender in Horou Musukou. Right click, save as to download. […]
