How manly do you feel! Are you the top or the bottom...of the robot. This week the boys take on a show that does just enough to allow Kyle to like Mecha again, the action mecha comedy known as Gurren Lagann. What they hell even is a Gurren Lagann? Is Simon worse than Usopp? Where did all the robot necks go? We try to find out all this and more as we applaud the one of the best anime breasts on Yuko.Instagram: @wanwapodcast

On today's episode we chose to watch a "classic" anime, Gunbuster! The predecessor to Neon Genesis Evangelion and Gurren Lagann and first anime from studio Gainax! But the real question is, was it a good anime that holds up? Or just a good anime for its time?
How does Gurren Lagann hold up in 2024? Shang, Mist and Loofie share some interesting opinions on the anime's start with fresh eyes. Is it good, is it bad? For this episode of Kirby Conversations, we're looking at the influence popular mecha series had on Kirby: Planet Robobot. To start, it's Mecha History 101, as Bridget and Ky teach Sean about the rich history of Japanese mecha films and TV shows like Mobile Suit Gundam, Gurren Lagann, and more. Then we consider how Shinya Kumazaki seems to have drawn on his personal interest in mecha shows when creating the design and gameplay for Kirby's mechs (including one particularly familiar-looking drill). We also share our experiences with Planet Robobot before turning to Act 2, where Ky and Bridget discuss their love of Gundam model kits, and we all reflect on the joys of playing Kirby as adults in or approaching our thirties. Starting with this episode, we're now also offering extended three-act versions of every show to our Patreon supporters! Gurren Lagann is a true blue modern classic, and a turning point for its creators, the studio, and much of its audience! The show is a non-stop rollercoaster of storytelling and animation that oftentimes leaves me breathless after watching! But it's also a tale firmly rooted in tradition, a fresh "spin" on the classic hero's journey as we follow our timid protagonist on his journey to manhood. And for Hiroyuki Imaishi and crew, Gurren Lagann propelled a burgeoning desire to make a further name for themselves, eventually resulting in the creation of Studio TRIGGER - co-founded by Hiroyuki Imaishi Masahiko Ohtsuka. Musical tracks in this episode: "Rap is a Man's Soul!" [Short Start Edit] - Tarantura "Drill to Heaven with Your XXX!! -First Time Outside Version" - Taku Iwasaki
