(Question of the week) 16bitwars-nomad: Here’s a crazy question...if you could go back in time and change the following, which would it be and why… A) The Nintendo and Sony collaboration continued and a cd add-on was released for the SNES. B) The 3DO, Atari Jaguar, and Philips CD-I were successful and became dominant in the video game world. C) Sony used regular SD cards in the Vita and actually supported it. D) The Dreamcast was released with a DVD player and dominated its generation. E) The Atari Lynx sold more than the Gameboy and Gamegear. As a Sega guy, I would@have to pick D. The Dreamcast was an awesome system with great games and was as powerful as the PS2 if not more. But it was hindered by its cd drive and Poor decisions by Sega. Runner up would have to be C. Sony had a great system with the vita but expensive memory cards and lack of support doomed it. I look forward to hearing from everyone else!! Andross: @Datfast and @Dan - RetroLogic given the new pokemon legends announcement what retro game would you like to see reimagined with a new formula/stlye? It seems we have at last arrived in a world of arts and crafts, a pop up book with denim skies and cardboard cliffs. It’s finally time to turn the page and talk about Smashterpiece #23: Yoshi’s Story. Being our first game featuring Totaka’s Song to being the first instance of Yoshi having the voice we’ve all grown accustomed to hearing, this perfectly normal platformer is exactly what we expected- wait, what? It’s a score attack game? … Huh. Do we think the score attack format hurts or helps the game overall? Why is it kind of weird that this 2D sprite based platformer released on a home console in 1997? What’s the most important piece of the soundtrack and why is it Yo Yo Yoshi? All this and more in today’s episode!Join us next time as we build our teams and fight our way to the top in Smashterpiece #24: The King of Fighters ‘95
Siden alle i Cross Over Gaming-redaksjonen er barn av 90-tallet, har vi et kjært forhold til Nintendo 64. We are back with our normal style of episode this week, and we do it with our neighbor to the east Jeff from Nindie Nation. We Radical Rex about what we have been playing as of late, and then get into the topic at hand. In honor of the newest Yoshi game, Yoshi’s Crafted World. We go back to the late 90s and talk about Yoshi’s Story. We talk about the balance of what Nintendo has mastered with making an easy but compelling platformer. Jeff shares his thoughts on Yoshi’s Crafted World as well. We’ll be back next week with some sporting events.
And the theme song is stuck in your head.... now. This week, we played the candy-coated platform YOSHI'S STORY, a game that, for all it's saccharine cuteness, is pretty divisive among gamers. We're joined by our old friend Lynsey, and by Kyle Duncan Graham, host of the Infinite Grenade Launcher podcast. Special thanks to Kevin Kim for the recording on Kyle's end.
