POPULARITY
2025 Show Notes Amendment: I love the setup we have here where on the first day of the month, we released our final ever TwoFer Tuesday, and now, here at the last day of the month, we re-release our first ever TwoFer Tuesday! It feels like a wonder twist on "bookends". As always when re-running early episodes, please excuse the atrocious production quality. One of my favorite things looking back on the early episodes of the show is how "different, yet the same" they are. From a sound quality perspective, the differences are night and day in every aspect. But in terms of show format and events, other than missing the now customary summary introduction, and the fact that they've gradually gotten longer over the years, it's the same darned show that it's always been. And what the early episodes lack in polish and finesse and technique and maturity, they somewhat make up for in youthful exuberance and wide-eyed optimism, and a simply innocent fun. You've heard the latest and greatest of TwoFer Tuesday this month, now hear the awkward first baby steps!....different....yet the same.... Lastly, I had toyed with the idea of doing three reruns this month - today's rerun, as well as the two highlighted April Fool's episodes: 2020's "Backtracks" (where all the tracks played in reverse), and 2024's "Parallels" (where all the tracks played over top of each other all at once). But I had procrastinated, and now it's the last day of the month, and it would simply obscene of me to upload three reruns in one day. So the compromise that I settled on was to include links to them here in the show notes, in case you wanted to revisit them (or perhaps experience them for the first time). So, here are the links, Backtracks first, then Parallels. In terms of production value, Backtracks is dramatically better than today's rerun, but also dramatically lesser than our current works, whereas Parallels is very close to our current level of production : https://nerdnoiseradio.podbean.com/e/noise-from-the-hearts-of-nerds-c1e52-backtracks/ https://nerdnoiseradio.podbean.com/e/ch-1-noise-from-the-hearts-of-nerds-c1e83-parallels/ And now, the [otherwise unmodified] original episode shownotes! Enjoy! ------------------------------------------------------------------- Today's broadcast is Episode 4 for TwoFer Tuesday, February 21st, 2017 on a program we're calling “TwoFer Tuesday, Vol. 1” Tracklist - Track#, Game, System, Composer, Track Names, Timestamp: 01: Intro - 00:00:00 02: ChipChan-Kick - PCFX - Yoshio Furakawa, Masahara Iwata, and Hitoshi Sakamoto a) Stage 1 - 00:01:46 b) Stage 4 - 00:05:00 03: Trickstyle - Dreamcast - Richard Beddow a) USA Race 1 - 00:07:04 b) USA Race 4 - 00:10:54 04: Alien 3 - SNES - Steve Collett a) Destroy the Eggs - 00:14:04 b) Collect Deliver and Steal - 00:15:11 05: Super Smash Bros Brawl - Wii a) Tunnel (X) - composed) Kazumi Totaka / arranged) Yusuke Takahama - 00:17:10 b) Marionation Gear - composed and arranged) Masafumi Takada - 00:20:08 06: LED Storm - C64 - Tim Follin a) Music 3 - 00:22:43 b) Name Entry - 00:25:13 07: Final Fantasy X - PS2 - Nobuo Uematsu, Masashi Hamauzo, Junya Nakano a) Challenge - 00:27:58 b) People of the Far North - 00:30:45 08: Dick Tracy - Genesis - Takayuki Nakamura a) Train Yard - 00:32:55 b) Warehouse - 00:34:25 09: Ninja Gaiden 2 - NES - Ryuichi Nitta, Mayuko Okamura a) Stage 2-2 - 00:36:24 b) Stage 5-2 - 00:37:39 10: Lovely Planet - Multi Platform - Calum Bowen a) Lovely City - 00:38:58 b) Lovely Village - 00:41:32 11: Magician Lord - NEO GEO - Hiroyuki Shimizu, Yuka Watanabe, Hideki Yamamoto a) Stage 2 - 00:44:18 b) Stage 4 - 00:46:43 12: Zelda Twilight Princess - GC/Wii - Toru Minegishi, Asuka Ota a) Twilight Palace (outside) - 00:48:29 b) After the Battle - 00:51:24 13: Psychosis - TG16 - Atsuhiro Motoyama a) 1st Cause - 00:53:40 b) 4th Cause - 00:54:58 14: Outlaws of the Lost Dynasty (Dark Legend) - Multi - Seiichi Hamada a) Gong Shun Sheng - 00:56:46 b) Ruan Xian Wu - 00:59:18 15: Cosmic Carnage - 32X - Hikoshi Hashimoto a) Cylic (Heavy Armor) - 01:01:26 b) Zena Lan (Heavy Armor) - 01:03:34 16: Sims - PC - Jerry Martin a) Buying Lumber (Build 2) - 01:05:18 b) Martinis for Two (Latin 2) - 01:10:17 17: Outro - 01:16:42 Music Block Runtime: 01:14:58, Total Episode Runtime: 01:23:09 Our Intro and Outro Music is Funky Radio - Dreamcast - BB Rights If you wish to subscribe to the Nerd Noise Radio - Channel 1 Music block podcast, there are two options: Option 1: Subscribe right here to the "Nerd Noise Radio Network - All Channels" podcast feed. Feed will include Channels 1, 2, 3, and any future channels not yet planned. Feed will also include podcasts in high quality, stereo where applicable, and episodes will never expire off the feed. Option 2: If you're ONLY interested in Channel 1 episodes, and not in any of the other channels, there is a Channel 1-specific feed. But it's hosted on a free account, rather than an upgraded account like the "All Channels Feed" with lower quality sound (mono, I believe), a maximum 2hrs per month of content (so if the month's episodes run longer than that, they may need to be trimmed), and episodes expire off the feed forever after 90 days. If this is what you want instead, here's the RSS: http://www.buzzsprout.com/77944.rss NOTE: This episode had to be trimmed for the “Channel 1” feed to make it and Episode 3 both fit within the two hour limit for the month. The shortened version is called “Episode 4a” (C1E4a), where the full-length version is simply called “Episode 4” (C1E4). 2025 re-run bonus notes: Our first re-run of our return to the practice is also the first-released [second produced] of a trilogy of music blocks. Long-time listeners of the show may already know what I'm talking about, but newer listeners and/or those who do not remember may be perplexed by what I'm talking about. Well, it will all be explained in the intro to the final of the trilogy (releasing in March). DISCLAIMER: the production value was much worse back in 2019. So if this is your first time hearing Nerd Noise Radio, please keep in mind that our production values have much improved in the time since. ----------------------------- Original (2019) Show Notes ----------------------------- Today's broadcast is C1E41 for Mishmash Monday, February 4th, 2019. Intro / Outro / Final Production produced using Ardour 6 / Audacity 3 in Ubuntu Studio [Linux] 22.04 08/28/2022. Music Block produced in GarageBand in macOS 05/29/2019. IMPORTANT NOTE: The tools and techniques I used back in 2019 in producing the music block were NOT up to my current standards – including featuring less sophisticated fades, more imprecise volume level balancing, less developed track run-order sorting, and even my having used MP3s rather than WAVs in the source production, resulting in a lower-fidelity final product, and further limiting my ability to touch it up after the fact. As such, the production value of this episode will NOT be to par with our current "fresh episodes". But production values aside, the quality of the CONTENT itself, otherwise, I feel, is excellent, and well worth digging up to share with you.....I hope that you'll agree! :-) You can also find all of our audio episodes on Archive.org as well as the occasional additional release only available there, such as remixes of previous releases and other content. Our YouTube Channel, for the time being is in dormancy, but will be returning with content, hopefully, in 2022. Our Outro Music is Results Parade from the Check Mii Out Channel on the Wii, composed by Kazumi Totaka. Produced using Ardour 6 / Audacity 3 in Ubuntu Studio [Linux] 22.04 A few important milestones in 2020 / 2021 that I had failed to mention in the intro, but which deserve mentioning: A) we had our first Ch 1 episode by Hugues (which was also the first Ch 1 in the entire show's history that St. John had absolutely no hand whatsoever in producing. It was a focus on music fromFalcomgames, and was quite succinctly named "The Falcom Episode" B) We made the migration from producing Nerd Noise Radio in GarageBand via MacOS on a mac mini (and using primarily MP3s in production – mostly through YouTube-to-MP3 websites) to producing NNR in a mix of Audacity andArdourvia Ubuntu Studio (Linux) on a mix of a Dell Latitude Laptop and my custom-built gaming PC (and using primarily WAVs in production – mostly through the youtube-dl command in the Linux terminal). The last episode to be produced in Mac was C1E52: Backtracks (April 1st 2020) and the first episode to be produced in Linux was Channel F: Backtracks – the OTHER 50 (April or May 2020). I feel like the production value on balance is noticeably and appreciably better after the change. And since Hugues is also a Linux user, that means that both sides of our Channel 2 episodes are Linux productions. You can find the Google Sheets spreadsheet showing St. John's work in arriving at his tracklist for this episode here (WARNING: MILD SPOILERS! Contains track lists for potential future Archive-exclusive SUPER BONUS supplemental music collections: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1X6JpkqiGADAF9sHAsSpgyImjvimVWJv2mOATf5_ZZGc/edit?usp=sharing You can also find all of our audio episodes on Archive.org as well as the occasional additional release only available there, such as remixes of previous releases and other content. No podéis perdéroslo!!! The 8-Bit Big Band is a 30-65 member Jazz/Pops orchestra (led by Charlie Rosen) that formed to celebrate and realize some of the best musical themes written from various video games. The members of the 8-Bit Big Band come from all around the world, but most reside primarily in New York City, and are some of the most highly sought after musicians and performers, all gamers at heart who enjoy playing their favorite games of all time! Charlie Rosen is extremely talented; he's a composer and arranger, professional bass player and multi-instrumentalist and does just about everything involved in producing the 8BBB albums. He's been playing professionally for years and has orchestrated and composed music for television, film and over a dozen Broadway shows. He's well-versed in all manner of Big Band and Jazz, and his expanded arrangements give new life to old classics. Together with Charlie we cover a selection of tracks from 3 full-length albums and an EP. We talk music theory, arrangement, our favorite pop cultural references and so much more in this densely packed show. It was a blast start to finish and as always, we hope you enjoy it as much as we do! "Faith" Rudresh Mahanthappa's Hero Trio: Aninal Crossing EP (Whirlwind Recordings, 2022) Rudresh Mahanthappa, François Moutin, Rudy Roiston. Prata spel(musik). Our second of two reruns for the month, and an episode that is easily in my top 20 episodes in show history, and possibly even in my top 15....or even top 10! It's a VERY early episode, so the production value on the intro and outro are TERRIBLE! The arrangement (track order), and production value of the music block is also not quite up to par with current episodes either, but fortunately, the quality vector on that front is much less profound than it is with the intros and outros. But most importantly, it is an episode where I got incredibly self-indulgent with my track selection choices, and therefore, it features a TON of pieces that are favorites of mine - hence why it ranks so high for me, and will likely still rank quite high when the show finally reaches episode 100 and comes to a complete end (current plans put that day all the way out into Dec 2026).And now, to the track list!Tracklist - Track#, Game, System, Composer, Track Names, Timestamp: 01: Intro - 00:00:00 02: ChipChan-Kick - PCFX - Yoshio Furakawa, Masahara Iwata, and Hitoshi Sakamoto a) Stage 1 - 00:01:46 b) Stage 4 - 00:05:00 03: Trickstyle - Dreamcast - Richard Beddow a) USA Race 1 - 00:07:04 b) USA Race 4 - 00:10:54 04: Alien 3 - SNES - Steve Collett a) Destroy the Eggs - 00:14:04 b) Collect Deliver and Steal - 00:15:11 05: Super Smash Bros Brawl - Wii a) Tunnel (X) - composed) Kazumi Totaka / arranged) Yusuke Takahama - 00:17:10 b) Marionation Gear - composed and arranged) Masafumi Takada - 00:20:08 06: LED Storm - C64 - Tim Follin a) Music 3 - 00:22:43 b) Name Entry - 00:25:13 07: Final Fantasy X - PS2 - Nobuo Uematsu, Masashi Hamauzo, Junya Nakano a) Challenge - 00:27:58 b) People of the Far North - 00:30:45 08: Dick Tracy - Genesis - Takayuki Nakamura a) Train Yard - 00:32:55 b) Warehouse - 00:34:25 09: Ninja Gaiden 2 - NES - Ryuichi Nitta, Mayuko Okamura a) Stage 2-2 - 00:36:24 b) Stage 5-2 - 00:37:39 10: Lovely Planet - Multi Platform - Calum Bowen a) Lovely City - 00:38:58 b) Lovely Village - 00:41:32 11: Magician Lord - NEO GEO - Hiroyuki Shimizu, Yuka Watanabe, Hideki Yamamoto a) Stage 2 - 00:44:18 b) Stage 4 - 00:46:43 12: Zelda Twilight Princess - GC/Wii - Toru Minegishi, Asuka Ota a) Twilight Palace (outside) - 00:48:29 b) After the Battle - 00:51:24 13: Psychosis - TG16 - Atsuhiro Motoyama a) 1st Cause - 00:53:40 b) 4th Cause - 00:54:58 14: Outlaws of the Lost Dynasty (Dark Legend) - Multi - Seiichi Hamada a) Gong Shun Sheng - 00:56:46 b) Ruan Xian Wu - 00:59:18 15: Cosmic Carnage - 32X - Hikoshi Hashimoto a) Cylic (Heavy Armor) - 01:01:26 b) Zena Lan (Heavy Armor) - 01:03:34 16: Sims - PC - Jerry Martin a) Buying Lumber (Build 2) - 01:05:18 b) Martinis for Two (Latin 2) - 01:10:17 17: Outro - 01:16:42 Music Block Runtime: 01:14:58, Total Episode Runtime: 01:23:09 Our Intro and Outro Music is Funky Radio - Dreamcast - BB Rights

Okay so it may not be spooky season, but after our discussions about Luigi's Mansion, do you really need an excuse to play such a charming game? We think not! In this episode, we bring on James Fluker, a fellow streamer and co-host of the Elbow Rocket podcast as we talk about a game that Peter hasn't played before. After listening to the soundtrack, he regrets that decision immensely! Composed by Kazumi Totaka and Shinobu Tanaka, we are pleasantly surprised that this game doesn't take the typical approach to a "horror" game and finds a way to bring us funky, fresh, and all together fun tracks to listen to. Take a listen as we talk about our experiences (or lack thereof) of this game, and share with you our top five favorite tracks from the OST. Question of the Episode: What game OST has caught you by surprise after you listened to it for the first time? Answer this and chat with us on Twitter @DeepBassPodcast, or join us on the Discord: https://discord.deepbasspodcast.com/ You can find more of James over on Twitter as well: https://twitter.com/Elb0wR0cket As always, thank you for listening! --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/deepbasspodcast/support

There’s the Mario music that gets remade time and time again with each new game, but there’s also a great deal of other tracks that don’t. They're good too, however, and a lot more eclectic than you might expect from ol' Super Mario and friends. This episode — a sequel to Episode 23, linked below — is all that weird stuff from Mario games and their various spinoffs. The Marioverse is wild and strange. Enjoy.
