At the Sony State of Play, there was a new Digital Eclipse collection released for Rayman's 30th Anniversary - and I didn't get it on launch, going back on my word that their collections were now day one purchases. Steam Decks are now out of stock and Valve doesn't know when they'll be able to manufacture more. This is most likely because of the RAM shortage because AI companies have already ordered more RAM than factories can produce right now. Because of this, the Steam Machine and Steam Frame are also delayed and will not launch in the first quarter of 2026 like originally announced. Riot Games has laid off the majority of the team that built 2KXO two weeks after the game left early access. What is the actual plan for live service games to keep their teams after releasing the core product? Then we talk to Jamie at OLR about the new Stern Pinball release - Pokemon.

Schlechte Nachrichten für Prince of Persia-Fans, aber Hoffnung für Assassin's Creed und Beyond Good & Evil 2? Ubisoft baut radikal um und streicht dabei gnadenlos Titel von der Roadmap. Het aandeel van de Franse gamemaker Ubisoft is vandaag hard onderuitgegaan op de beurs. De koers kelderde met zo’n 38 procent, waarop de handel zelfs tijdelijk werd stilgelegd. Aanleiding is een winstwaarschuwing die het bedrijf gisteravond naar buiten bracht, met vooruitzichten op een miljardenverlies. Ubisoft, bekend van grote gametitels als Assassin’s Creed, Far Cry en het klassieke Rayman, kampt al jaren met financiële problemen. De uitgever kondigde eerder al meerdere reorganisaties aan en schrapte duizenden banen om kosten te besparen. Nu gaat het bedrijf opnieuw fors snijden. Zes aankomende games zijn volledig geannuleerd, waaronder een nieuwe titel in de Prince of Persia-reeks. Daarnaast worden meerdere studio’s wereldwijd gesloten en lopen zeker zeven andere games flinke vertraging op. Volgens Ubisoft is een nieuwe grootschalige reorganisatie nodig om het bedrijf weer gezond te krijgen. Die moet in 2028 leiden tot een structurele kostenbesparing van zo’n 500 miljoen euro per jaar. Op korte termijn pakt dat echter juist negatief uit: door de geschrapte projecten verwacht het bedrijf dit jaar alleen al een verlies van ongeveer 1 miljard euro. Voor beleggers was dat reden tot paniek. Het aandeel verloor in korte tijd ruim een derde van zijn waarde, genoeg om de handel tijdelijk stil te leggen. Inmiddels is die weer hervat, maar de klap voor het vertrouwen in de gamemaker is groot. Verder in deze Tech Update: Chatbot Grok genereerde volgens onderzoek van The New York Times in negen dagen bijna 4,5 miljoen AI-afbeeldingen, waarvan zo’n 1,8 miljoen (ongeveer 41%) seksueel getint en met vrouwen, een enorme toename vergeleken met de circa 300.000 beelden in de periode daarvoor.
