The Leifthrasir Hand of DarknessWhen Ogre Battle retreats to the shadows, who keeps the beacons lit? When Princess Crown fails to draw an audience, who picks up the bag and keeps marching? When Japan shows a lack of interest in Starcraft, who ties the series to a tower defense game and a visual novel and waves that enticingly over the crowds? Of course, we all know when to cry out to Vanllaware, and every couple of years, we know they'll send us an answer. But where did they come from? How do they keep surviving on niche titles? And most importantly, how does our intrepid panel feel about their entire ouvre? The RPGrinders are back for another episode but they aren't the only things returning. The Greatest of All Time Tournament is back! This time the Grinders will be picking the definitive Playstation 2 JRPG. Of course, the Grinders have a big show before they can even get to the tournament. As always, the Grinders start with the latest JRPG news. Games like Sword of the Vagrant and Ni No Kuni Cross Worlds get release dates. Starfield is getting delayed. Gotham Knights is canceled for the last gen consoles. But nothing is more embarrassing than what happened to Squenix latest failure, Babylon's Fall.  It wouldn't be RPGrinders without Stinkos. This episodes Stinkos reek. The repugnant behavior of the ruling class and their treatment of women is just the beginning. No government (state or federal) should ever have the right to tell a woman what she can or can't do with her own internal organs. Once they have stripped millions of American women of the right to choose, they will start giving over more and more rights to states. They believe the government should decide what we are and what we can do with our lives and bodies. Freedom is being crushed by the tyranny of the ruling class.  The Grinders always love to end a show with a bang and this episode is no different as it features the return of the Greatest of All Time Tournament! This time the RPGrinders will decide once and for all what was the greatest Playstation 2 RPG! Is Persona 4 a better sequel than Disgaea 2? Is the Odin Sphere a better ARPG than the original Kingdom Hearts? Will Yuna and Tidus teen romance topple Laharl's quest to claim his father's throne? Will Jaster Rogue save the galaxy? Will Adol Christin survive his only Playstation 2 adventure?  Next week the remaining 16 RPGs will fight to the death to be one of the surviving 8!             Did we mention that Frank watched a movie about a woman fucking a car?

This week Eric and Nicky discuss the Odin Sphere in another spherically satisfying episode of Press any Button. Odin Sphere is a 2-d action role-playing game developed by Vanillaware for the PlayStation 2. Gameplay focuses on a beat 'em up-style fighting system while incorporating role-playing elements. The story follows five characters on the fantasy continent of Erion during a war between the nations of Ragnanival and Ringford over a weapon called the Crystallization Cauldron and their roles in Armageddon. About us: Press Any Button hosts Nicky (a new gamer) and Eric (a lifetime gamer) are a married couple who both love video games. For every video game they will discuss its past (history of the game, developers story, and fun facts), present (game play, game review and strategy), and future (will there be a sequel?? A movie?) BUT WAIT THERE'S MORE… Every game also comes with a challenge presented by the host that chose the game. If the challenge is not completed then whoever failed has to do a video game rap! So if you want to learn more about video games, hear some nerdy video game raps, or just have a good time this is the podcast for you. We try to cover all types of video games including: Retro and New video games - Playstation, Nintendo, Xbox, Sega, and PC games - Any and all genres including RPG, Simulation, Beat em up, platforming, mystery, first person shooter, sandbox, puzzle, action adventure, etc. Follow us on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/pressanybutton_podcast/ Credits: Nicky Smith Eric Luedtke Music by Mark Spurlock References: https://dragons-crown.fandom.com/wiki/George_Kamitani https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vanillaware https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Princess_Crown https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Odin_Sphere https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/VideoGame/OdinSphere

“After all… why not?” Jens remarked while perusing his backlog. “Why shouldn’t I make Randy play a VanillaWare game?” Jens was, of course, a long time fan of VanillaWare and Atlus. He had fond memories of playing the original Odin Sphere fourteen years prior. He’d long internalized it as one of the “Great Games.” PVC representations of its cast of characters adorned his shelves, not far from his still unopened collector’s edition of Odin Sphere: Leifthrasir. The time had come to kill two birds with one stone. The time had come for Randy to find out just what kind of art this raging disco detective was all about. What could possibly go wrong? Did we say detective? That's right! Before Jens and Randy dig into Odin Sphere: Leifthrasir, Jens also gives his opinion on Disco Elysium and Randy tells him all about the couples therapy he's been doing with his girlfriend in It Takes Two.
