After years of rumors, the Gears Of War Collection has become a bit of a running gag in the Xbox community. If it happens, great. If it doesn't, we never fully believed in it anyway. This week, we have Jez Corden to thank because it made for one of our fastest evolving stories mid-show! Starting off as a discussion of whether or not the Gears Of War Collection would ever happen, we quickly learned it is happening and... it won't have multiplayer. Is this a major dealbreaker for Xbox fans? Naturally, the Dukes debate, but the real question after assessing the early Forza Horizon 5 sales data is if it will matter to those playing on other platforms. Forza Horizon 5 is already beating out hot products with full marketing campaigns that are set to hit the market. Most stunning of all is that despite amassing 40+ million players and being available on multiple platforms for years, Forza Horizon 5's early access edition is the lead seller. It says a lot about how Xbox as a platform is viewed versus their content. So, let's dive in! Before launching the Valiant Universe with the likes of Turok Dinosaur Hunter, Magnus Robot Fighter, Harbinger, and more, Jim Shooter's Valiant Comics published a handful of Nintendo-licensed comics in 1990-91 based on Mario, Zelda, Game Boy, and Captain N. Is there enough discussion-worthy content within those issues to justify/fill an 82-minute episode? Nope! -- but 1990s game nostalgia / game-adaptation discussions abound! This episode exists to celebrate one of Justin's other podcasts -- the BAY STREET VIDEO PODCAST -- hitting 200 episodes, and devoting an hours-long special subscriber episode to reviewing the new mega boxset of the 1993 Super Mario Bros movie just released from Umbrella Entertainment! This episode is a conversation about peace, reconciliation and innovative storytelling featuring pioneering producer Jeff Gomez and Billy Price who is Creative Director of Unrival, the non profit organisation dedicated to empowering peacebuilders and the process of peacebuilding across the world. During Future of Film Africa 2024, Jeff and Billy discuss their unique collaboration and how they are applying a new modality of storytelling that champions reconciliation and understanding. In particular, we learn about process of peacebuilding and the concept of 'Just Peace' - and how Jeff's work in developing 'Collective Journey' narratives intersects with and supports this activity.. In a discussion that also encompasses the craft of transmedia and worldbuilding, we hear how producers and creators can apply and benefit from these strategies in their own work and also learn how Jeff is using them in projects such as ULTRAMAN RISING to great critical and commercial success. This episode was recorded as part of Future of Film Africa 2024 in partnership with Sèmè City of the Republic of Benin. More About Jeff Gomez and Billy Price Jeff Gomez is President and CEO of Starlight Runner Entertainment, a leading producer of highly successful fictional "Worlds," which maximize the value of intellectual properties by preparing them for licensing, merchandising and extension across multiple media platforms. Starlight Runner then utilizes a variety of technologies as well as a proprietary cross-media rollout technique designed to produce these "Worlds," directly extending them onto the Internet and mobile phone platforms, as well as into animated and live-action feature films, branded and sponsored digital content, video games, books and graphic novels, toys and merchandise. These in concert are also uniquely designed by Starlight Runner to validate and celebrate audience participation. The company's clients include The Walt Disney Company, Comcast, Mattel, Hasbro, and Scholastic. Jeff is also known for developing the rich interactive worlds of Hot Wheels for Mattel, Magic: The Gathering for Hasbro, The Black Belt Club for Scholastic, Turok Dinosaur Hunter for Acclaim Entertainment, and Team GoRizer for The Walt Disney Company. Jeff co-wrote and produced Hot Wheels World Race, a computer-animated feature and series for Cartoon Network. He is currently developing a slate of original "World" properties with Starlight Runner and various partners to be produced in the coming year. Billy Price is a multidisciplinary creative whose longing for a more just and peaceful world led him beyond the typical bounds of a professional creative when he began advocacy and relief work for refugees and asylum seekers. His efforts were instrumental in the formation of an innovative aid program in Juarez, MX— providing food, sustainable energy, and education to vulnerable migrant families. Other professional endeavors have involved collaborations with Grammy-winning bands, non-profits, startups, and healthcare companies, as well as his personal projects as a screenwriter, actor, and director (credited in film as William Price, III). Friendship has provided a fertile ground for creative endeavors throughout Billy's career. Many of his proudest professional accomplishments, from building an iPhone app to producing and directing film work, have been collaborative efforts with cherished friends he would just as readily spend a celebratory Sunday afternoon with. Billy's commitment to creativity in the context of bondedness bears itself out in his approach to the Film Lab, a collaboration with Justice Film Festival where participants celebrate the power of transformative, nonviolent storytelling together. His vision for the film lab is to cultivate a community of filmmakers dedicated to justice and peace and innervate an uprising of films from diverse and mutually empowering voices.

Patreon.com/RememberTheGame When most people think of first-person shooters on the Nintendo 64, I think 3 games come to mind: Goldeneye 007, Perfect Dark, and Turok: Dinosaur Hunter. We've already covered the first 2 (as I played the hell out of them back in the day), but I'd never touched Turok until a few weeks ago. It's time to hunt dinosaurs. Turok's a weird game. Not because I don't understand the story or because I think the controls are weird, but because it's just...there. It's not BAD, but I don't know if it's good. If I had played it growing up, I'm confident I woulda loved it, but by 2023 standards, it's kinda empty. But the core gameplay is fun enough to keep me from hating it. My pal Tyler is my guest this week, and we're talking endless waves of enemies, MASSIVE levels, weird enemies and exploding arrows on this episode of RTG. And before we look for keys, I trek through another edition of the Infamous Intro! This week, we get into what the premiere launch title for Nintendo's next console could be. Why am I so scared of Kingdom Hearts?? And what NES game (that I haven't played before) do I want to play the most?? Plus we play another round of 'Play One, Remake One, Erase One', too! This one features 3 Dino games: Dino Crisis, Primal Rage, and Jurassic Park. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Patreon.com/RememberTheGame It's a BIG week for the Ninja Turtles with Mutant Mayhem hitting theatres, and I needed a game for this week's episode while I work on playing through Turok: Dinosaur Hunter (which will be next week's show), so I figured let's be topical AND talk about an awesome game at the same time. This week's all about Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III: The Manhattan Project for the NES. When most people think of TMNT on the NES, they probably either think of the first game (electric seaweed, anyone?), or the Arcade game port. Manhattan Project came out toward the end of the NES's lifespan, and it's a real shame more people didn't play it, because it's a bonafide gem of a beat 'em up, and it improves on TMNT 2: The Arcade Game in practically every possible way. I'm rolling solo this week, and I had no trouble gushing about this game. My brother and I used to rent it all the time, and between the better graphics, improved combat, special moves and ABILITY TO SWAP TURTLES WHEN YOU DIE, I think this is not only one of the best TMNT games ever made, but one of the best NES games, as well. And before we explore Manhattan, I surf through another edition of the Infamous Intro! This week, someone asks if I think gaming will ever be 100% streaming focused? What game that we've covered on the show needs a remaster the most? And remember Xbox Live Arcade? Of course you do. Plus we play another round of 'Play One, Remake One, Erase One', too! The 90's were a great era for dinosaur related violence, but does it stand the test of time? You better hold onto your butts for this one.

It was released in 1997 in North America and Europe. Turok is an adaptation of the Acclaim Comics comic book series of the same name. The player controls Turok, a Native American warrior, who must stop the evil Campaigner from conquering the universe with an ancient and powerful weapon. As Acclaim's first title for the Nintendo 64, Turok was part of a strategy to develop games internally and license merchandise; Acclaim acquired the rights to Turok when it purchased Valiant Comics in 1994, renaming it Acclaim Comics. Suffering from cash flow problems and falling sales, Acclaim came to rely on Turok as its best hope for a financial turnaround. Iguana pushed the Nintendo 64's graphics capabilities to its limits, and were forced to compress or cut elements to fit the game on its 8 megabyte cartridge. Bugs delayed the game's release from September 1996 to January 1997. Critical reception of Turok was highly positive. Becoming one of the most popular games for the console on release, Turok won praise for its graphics and evolution of the genre. Complaints centered on graphical slowdowns caused by multiple enemies appearing onscreen and occasionally awkward controls. The game sold 1.5 million copies and boosted sales of the Nintendo 64. ________________________________________________________________________ Grab a beer, a slice of pizza and come hang out with us. A lot of people dunk on the tank controls of the original Resident Evil games, but I always thought they worked pretty well when it came to dealing with slow moving zombies. But how they stack up in Dino Crisis, when you use those same controls against dinosaurs? Actually, not horribly. Dino Crisis gets referred to as "Resident Evil with dinosaurs", and I think it's a pretty fair comparison. Similar controls, graphics, that same fixed camera, and horrible inventory systems. But I think the puzzles are better, the enemies are cooler, and with the exception of Resident Evil 2, I think Dino Crisis does "late 90's PlayStation survival horror" better than Resident Evil does. My guest this week is my buddy Tyler, who makes his return to the podcast to talk about Regina (which was say wrong, as you'll hear shortly), stupid crane puzzles, dinosaurs, and crawling through heat vents. It's all about Dino Crisis week, baby! And before we talk what a piece of shit Gail is, I get into another edition of the 'Remember The Game? Infamous Intro'! This week, someone asks why I love wrestling games so much, when they seemingly just do the same thing over and over again. Which non-Nintendo franchises am I praying for the video games Gods to revitalize? And let's talk about my let's plays for a minute... PLUS, we have another round of 'Play One, Remake One, Erase One', featuring three dino-centric games: Jurassic Park (SNES), DinoPark Tycoon, and Turok: Dinosaur Hunter. Are you on social media? Of course you are. So follow us! Hej!
Hey Podtimists, Hope you're doing great and staying safe. Games we're playing that we talk about: Hades (of course), Mass Effect(duh) and Rise of the Slime (woah?!). We also dive into good games to talk about a very cool science fiction game about hunting dinosaurs and something called the Chronoscepter (which is a very cool name). --- We use the song '5 Min Call' by LAKEY INSPIRED as our intro and outro. Give it a listen here.
This week we are covering two wild professors of the 90s: The Nutty Professor vs. Flubber! Are you all about fat / skinny Eddie Murphy or are you just trying to bounce around with Robin Williams? It's the podcasts birthday, and in celebration of this very special event, we have a very special episode planned for you this week, which starts out with discussing the excitement (and confusion) brought to viewers everywhere in WandaVision episode five with the Family Ties vibe and a familiar face from comic movies past arriving in the West View universe. In other MCU news, we also touch base on the new series “Wakanda” Ryan Coogler teased about all the characters in the Black Panther universe, with the exception of the man himself because Marvel Studios said that they're doing the right thing and not recasting Chadwick Boseman. Where will the future take the Black Panther franchise? Will perhaps Shuri take on the mantle of the Black Panther? We discuss! In Tales From the Dollar Bin, our dad joins us for one of our best Dollar Bin compilations ever where we all have some great adventures to review. Dad reviews comics like Night Force and a Wonder Woman issue both involving satan worshippers and Nova #5, which guest starred comic creators Marv Wolfman and Sal Buscema as they ran from a giant robot that Nova sure geeked out on nicknaming. Jack represents Valiant a little more this week when he reviews Turok: Dinosaur Hunter #1 and also looks back on his time on the forest moon of Endor in the first five issues of Ewoks from Star Comics, while Artie an issue of Shadowhawk where he fights the Savage Dragon. For some one year anniversary bonus content, Jack and Artie debate on several debatable geek topics such as what the best non-Disney animated movie is, who's cooler between Iron Man and Captain America and more, all of which we've wanted to talk about on the show before but never had the chance to, so you can see this as our excuse to create arguments for your entertainment.
Blackjack! WSP turns 21 this week, and in episodes 53 to 55, we get a fun little crossover with Dr. Slump, Toriyama's previous gag manga, with some interesting fights to be had, before we leave Arale behind as Goku heads to the Land of Korin!

It took 119 episodes, and a patreon poll victory, but we're finally talking SEGA Dreamcast on Remember The Game? And what better place to start than with the game that started it all - Sonic Adventure. There's certainly a lot to criticize here. The camera. The glitches and bugs. Horrible voice acting. A certain cat (FUCKKKKKKKK!!!) And we do indeed criticize all of that. But we also talk about how fun this game is when this stuff gets out of the way, and how this game really was a great debut title for the Dreamcast. My guest this week is my pal and Sega lover Chris Heber, and we spent an hour talking about the good and bad aspects of Sonic's 3D debut. And before Chris and I complain about that jungle and that fucking cat, it's the fabled 'Remember The Game?' intro! We talk about the possibility of a new Nintendo 64 console, the rumours surrounding the Dreamcast mini, kickstarting video games, and more! We also have another fantastic edition of 'Play One, Remake One, Erase One'. This week it's the 'First Person Shooter' edition, starring Half-Life 2, Perfect Dark, and Turok: Dinosaur Hunter. If you want to skip to something specific, here's where to go: 0:00 - 7:50 Initial self-indulgent rambling 7:51 - 21:40 'Blowing In The Cartridge' (Listener comments & questions, and Letter Time!) 21:41 - 30:19 'Play One.
We also discuss Turok: The Dinosaur Hunter was an interesting hit on the N64 coming off a hot Valiant Comics property and spawning a multi-media franchise. What was this game like, was it a good first-person-shooter and how does the newly released PC version stack up. Resident Evil 3 Last of Us 2 Delayed QuakeCon 2020 Cancelled

In episode sixteen of Attack the Backlog, Marc travels through time (and portals) in Turok: Dinosaur Hunter, a fast-paced first-person shooter where you play as a time-traveling Native American with an affinity for killing dinosaurs, warriors, priests (the evil kind), and anyone else who gets in their way. Why are you doing all this? I'm sure the game told me, but I couldn't care enough to listen. Turok: Dinosaur Hunter originally came out on Nintendo 64 back in March of 1997 before making its way to PC in November of the same year, and was remastered for PC in 2015, eventually making its way to Xbox One and Switch a few years later. Anyway, something-something prehistoric and metaphoric, cheers and enjoy the show. Anyway, that's it and that's all folks. With schedules being what they are, sometimes coordinating a full episode of The Best Games Period can be difficult. When we can't have a proper discussion, we will be breaking off to do these short mini-casts to talk about fringe games that we might not otherwise be able to talk about on a full episode. This week Daniel helms an episode of Honorable Mention with an impassioned plea for people to appreciate the N64 cult classic Turok: Dinosaur Hunter. Innovating the FPS on consoles, embracing the limitations of the hardware, and diving head first into the silliness of its central concept, the original Turok could have been the springboard for a larger franchise. While that dream of dinosaur slaying was never realized in subsequent installments, the Dinosaur Hunter's first steps were magical for Daniel Jones. Outro music: Turok 2: Seeds of Evil 'Port of Adia Drum Mix' by Darren Mitchell (http://ocremix.org/remix/OCR00157) You can follow the show on Twitter: @BestGamesPeriod Or download the podcast from Soundcloud: https://soundcloud.com/thebestgamesperiod
Welcome to Connectivity 198, its a long one! In the first half of the show we kick things off with Zach offering some thoughts on the recent PC release of Turok: Dinosaur Hunter from the N64. Next up, Becky talks about the Nintendo 3DS game, Final Fantasy Explorers. After that, Adam talks about getting back into Ingress along with a discussion about the Pokémon 20th Anniversary commercial, before relating his frustration at his Detective Barbie game not running on his PC. Nick wraps things up with some brief thoughts on Wind Waker HD. Before the group moved off into the main topic of the week, they answer a listener mail question from Adolf Vega. He gives the crew several predictions to mull over. The main topic this week is all about Pokémon Red, Blue and Yellow and their surrounding era. We celebrate the 20th anniversary of the franchise with a lengthy discussion filled with memories, glitches and novice level advice. The musical selections on this episode include 'What Kind of a Pokémon Are You' from the 2.B.A. Master CD and the ending theme from the Pokémon Red and Blue album Pokémon Hikerukana. The Two Guys with PhDs (talking about comics) are back with another Publisher Spotlight episode. This time they are focusing on Dynamite Entertainment, specifically the new Gold Key comics that they have been reviving: Turok: Dinosaur Hunter, by Greg Pak and Mirko Colak; Magnus: Robot Fighter, by Fred Van Lente and Cory Smith; Solar: Man of the Atom, by Frank J. Barbiere and Joe Bennett; and Doctor Spektor: Master of the Occult, by Mark Waid and Neil Edwards. They discuss the new series in the order in which they've been introduced, and the guys even comment on Dynamite's strategy of staggering releases and not just publishing everything at once, much like Valiant did with their new revived titles a couple of years ago. Andy is more familiar with the original Gold Key comics, at least most of them, than Derek, so when they can they point out the similarities and differences between the recent comics and their earlier manifestations from Gold Key, Valiant, Acclaim, and Dark Horse. The guys definitely have their preferences — e.g., they love Van Lente's humor in Magnus, they appreciate both Van Lente and Waid's send up of reality television, they're curious where Barbiere is going with Solar's daughter, and while they're not big fantasy/Conan fans, they do like what Pak and Colak have done with Turok — and much of this comes out in their discussion. Overall, they really like what Dynamite is doing with their recent revival and look forward to seeing how it unfolds…and how things may all come together (as we are teased in the first issue of Doctor Spektor). Plus, the guys share listener mail that they've recently received. Keep ‘em coming!
