If you've listened to this podcast for more than a few weeks, you've probably heard at least one of our hosts complain about common RPG elements like turn-based combat and complex menuing. Maybe you agree with those complaints, or maybe you don't, but one thing is for sure, the garden-variety "JRPGs" just aren't for everyone. There are gamers out there in the gamerverse who prefer baby games for babies. One of those gamers may cohost this podcast. Well, in honor of those who prefer controllers with two buttons, this week we're simplifying your favorite crunchy video games! Todd is going to talk more about classical music than you're prepared for. Kyle may or may not be dunking on everyone's favorite 5v5 hero shooter. Andrew is going to draw the line between Final Fantasy and kart racing games, and it will be critically acclaimed. Ready to buckle up and relive the adrenaline-pumping action of classic Nintendo 64 racing games? This episode is your golden ticket to a nostalgia-fueled debate, pitting the iconic Mario Kart against the equally legendary Diddy Kong Racing. We're bringing you a head-to-head analysis, digging deep into the characters, graphics, and game mechanics of each title. From the fierce competitiveness of Mario Kart's multiplayer mode to the thrilling adventures of Diddy Kong Racing, we dissect every aspect that made these games unforgettable. But the race doesn't stop there! We shift gears to take a critical look at the gaming industry as a whole. Ever wondered why games cost a small fortune? Or why there's a growing trend of spending real-world money on in-game cosmetics? We tackle these topics, bringing to light the controversial issue of pay-to-play games and the potential implications for gamers. Amidst this, we also find time to reminisce about our own gaming experiences, from the frustration of lengthy load times to the unexpected joy of a Chun Lee span off the top ceiling. However, we're more than just gaming enthusiasts. We also have a creative streak and share with you some cool tricks on how to craft custom designs using Canva. Plus, we get a bit philosophical, imparting wisdom on the importance of developing a unique style and the value of hustling to achieve your dreams. This episode is a wild ride, much like a heart-pounding race in Mario Kart or Diddy Kong Racing, and we can't wait for you to join us. I'd never played it before, and when I was done with it, I said I thought it was better that Super Mario 64 (a statement I stand by today). We both agreed that we needed to get around to playing Banjo-Tooie, and then, like, 3 years passed. I knew we'd get to it eventually, but I wasn't sure when. And then a Patreon of the show by the name of Banjo (coincidence?) sponsored an episode, and said it's time. Play Banjo-Tooie. So I did. And hooooo boy, do I have a lot to say about it.    It takes the formula of the original game, and expands on it in a massive way. Bigger levels, more puzzles, and a long-ass cutscene to start the thing off. It's definitely more ambitious than the first game. Is it better? You'll have to listen to find out.    Show sponsor, Banjo, swings by to explain why this game is so damned near and dear to his heart. And then the Banjo to my Kazooie, Mark McCue himself, gives me a call and we take a deep dive into the fun, albeit somewhat controversial, Banjo-Tooie.   And before we get jiggie (see what I did there?), I slap together another edition of the 'Remember The Game? Infamous Intro'!   This week, someone asks how I feel about buying new games at full price. How excited am I about the TMNT: The Last Ronin game?? And how often do people complain about the Infamous Intro??   Plus we play another round of 'Play One, Remake One, Erase One', too! In today's program, it's our 2022 Christmas Special. We've been putting this show together annually since 2018 and I want to thank personally J. Blake Fischa for making sure we did produce this show this year. I've been so ridiculously busy during the latter stages of this year that I didn't think I'd have time to put this together. I really thought that All Request Christmas was going to be our Christmas Special this year but Blake DM'd me on Twitter and ask if we were going to do the show.  I said, "No".  I got a reply back with just the letter "K". I know it's tough to reading tone online but I could just feel the disappointment. So, I slept on it, woke up the next day and wrote Blake back saying, "You know what... I got to thinking last night and I think we should still do the Holiday Celebration episode anyway. It's something that all of us at CSR can work on together. So, yes, we are going to do our annual Christmas show as well as the All Request Show." So there, you can thank Blake for this show and we will always put together an annual Christmas show for you from now on. I promise! Before we begin I just want to again personally offer my thanks to the great team here at Cinematic Sound Radio.   55 new shows went out this year including this one and not including any new shows that go up from now until the end of the year. We are almost 25,000 downloads away from 500,000 total downloads since we made this show a podcast... or at least as long as I've been tracking the show on Podtrac and Chartable. We are up 101,000 downloads since this time last year, which is incredible. We've been ranking in the top 200 all over the world. People really like the show and so I have to send out a big thanks to Jason Drury, Eric Silver, J. Blake Fichera, Robert Daniels, Randy Andrews, the voice of CSR Tim Burden, in-house composer David Coscina, and Ley Bricknell. And of course, I cannot forget you... the listener. Thank you very much for spending some time with us today! And a big shout out to the Cinematic Sound Radio Patreon family. It's been a great year conversing with you, getting to talk to some of you personally on the show and as well as sharing some of your favourite music on the podcast via the All Request Show, which is one of my favourite things ever in the 26-year history of the show. I can't wait to do more in 2023. As we did over the course of the past FIVE years, this show is a collaborative effort. Each participating host will get a segment of their own on the program to play whatever festival score they see fit. On today's program, seven CINEMATIC SOUND RADIO PODCAST hosts join me again to celebrate the holiday season by playing Christmas-themed music from a wide variety of film, TV and video game scores.
