Let's be honest 2020 was a year that has tested us more than ever. We wanted to be mentally prepared for 2021, so Britt and Michelle called in the professionals to talk all things on mental health. In this episode, we talk with Natacha Pennycooke, a registered psychotherapist with the College of Registered Psychotherapist of Ontario (CRPO), and owner/operator of Natacha Pennycooke Psychotherapy Services. In her over 10 years of practice as a psychotherapist, speaker and consultant, her work is guided from an anti-oppressive, healing focused, trauma-informed and anti-Black racism lens, to unpack and challenge Euro-centric ideologies, systemic oppression and generational traumas that have been detrimental to racialized communities. She has presented at a number of international and national psychological conferences; and is sought after for her expertise on mental health, coping, racial trauma and healing. She has been a speaker at various community and corporate events in the Greater Toronto Area, and beyond. She is a founding member and current vice-chair of the Association of Black Psychologists - Toronto Chapter (ABPsi-TO), and actively volunteers as the Mental Health Advisor with Keep6ix Organization. These times are hard, remember to take care of your mental health. For the premiere episode of season 2, Michelle and Brittany wanted to highlight a disorder that affects 1 in 10 women: polycystic ovarian syndrome, otherwise referred to as PCOS. Chances are, you or someone you know may suffer from PCOS and not even know it. In fact, our very own Brittany has been struggling with this for over 12 years. From hormonal imbalance, infertility issues and depression, this disorder affects a woman's body at such a huge level.Brittany had the honour of speaking to Andrea Bomo, founder and owner of Ann & Eli Apothecary (and fellow cyster) about all things PCOS. Andrea was able to reverse her symptoms of PCOS and have 2 successful pregnancies after being told she would never be able to have children. She has developed herb formulas to help with things such as PCOS, painful periods, fibroids and much more. Through her own personal journey with learning to heal her body naturally, she has devoted her life to helping others do the same. We discussed our own journeys with diagnosis, as well as the importance of diet, herbs, and stress reduction in the fight to reverse PCOS symptoms.Make sure you listen till the end, where we announce a special giveaway! If you or someone you know has been diagnosed with PCOS or has experienced hormonal issues, make sure to give this episode a listen. You can find all of Andrea's wonderful products at: anneliapothecary.comYou can also reach her at: hello@anneliapothecary.com or find her on Instagram www.instagram.com/anneliapothecaryDon't forget to follow your hosts Michelle and Brittany on our Instagram and Facebook pageInstagram www.instagram.com/AshotofmelaninFacebook: www.facebook.com/ashotofmelanin--- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/ashotofmelanin/message Hosted on Acast.
