Things are getting dark on Beer Harmony. We're sipping on Black House from Modern Times, a stout full of Modern Times own coffee. With flavors of chocolate and espresso with a dry finish, Black House has a drinkability to it that most dark beers can't achieve. But will it have enough desserty goodness for us to find harmony? We also pair this with a cupcake from our favorite cupcake shop, Sweet Arleen's.What is your favorite Modern Times beer?Make sure to follow Beer Harmony on all social media outlets @BeerHarmonyShow and check out www.beerharmonyshow.com for even more beer! Are you ready to get sour? We were at our local bottle shop and happened upon a Russian River beer that we see even less than Pliny: Consecration, a sour dark ale aged in cabernet barrels. Just like every other Russian River beer, Consecration brings the flavor. Lot's of flavor. You can pick up the complexity of the wine barrels, the added currants, and all of the craftsmanship that has gone into this beer. The question is, will it be too sour? Or will the be a crowd pleaser amongst picky palates? We want to hear about your favorite sour beer, what is your go-to?Make sure to follow the show on all social media outlets @BeerHarmonyShow and check out www.beerharmonyshow.com for even more beer! Spring may be right around the corner, but we're keeping our beers dark...for now. We're headed to San Diego to review one of our local favorites from North Park: Fall Brewing Company. Bourbon Barrel Aged Jinx Remover is an Imperial Dark Lager that has spent some time in Old Forrester Bourbon barrels. It's full of the flavors you'd expect, but drinks like a lager. We also talk a little about how great North Park is and have some suggestions if you're going to be down in the area.Make sure to follow the show on all social media outlets @BeerHarmonyShow and check out www.beerharmonyshow.com for even more beer! Cheers land lovers! We're off to sea this week as we sip on and review Wreck Alley Imperial Stout from Karl Strauss Brewing Company. It may be winter time, but I think we all need a break from the big, dark beers. So we're going with a big, hoppy beer. Lord Hobo Brewing Company's Consolation Prize is a hazy double IPA from one of the biggest names in hazy beers. Consolation Prize is resulting in flavors of pineapple, mango, and melon and sports a pilsner base. It's an easy to drink double IPA that hides it's higher ABV well, but will it be too hoppy to be a harmonious decision? We want to hear about your favorite hazy double, what is your go-to?Make sure to follow the show on all social media outlets @BeerHarmonyShow and check out www.beerharmonyshow.com for even more beer! It may be cold and rainy, but the beer is getting big and boozy! We're drinking one of our favorite local breweries, M. Special Brewing Company out of Goleta, CA. Double Down Dozer Brown One Bourbon Barrel Aged is a barrel aged version of their delicious Dozer Brown. The DDDBO is a big beer with all of the classic barrel aged flavors, but it has a lighter mouthfeel and lends itself to some easier drinking (could be dangerous). Will this be a harmonious, bourbon-filled treat? Or will one of us be looking for something a little lower in ABV?What is your favorite bourbon barrel aged beer?Make sure to follow the show on all social media outlets @BeerHarmonyShow and check out www.beerharmonyshow.com for even more beer! Please send us your beer suggestions and show feedback to beerharmonyshow@gmail.com. You can find out more about M. Special Brewing and their delicious beers at www.mspecialbrewco.com. Cheers!
It may be the holiday season, but we're cleansing our palates from the big, boozy, and barrel aged. We're going back to Sierra Nevada to review their hoppy, blonde ale: BFD (Beer for Drinking). There's nothing complicated or overly fancy with this one, it's exactly as it sounds. Will the hops be too much for Shannon, or will it be hoppy enough for Greg?We also discuss the great thing that Sierra Nevada and 1,400 other breweries are doing: Resilience Butte County Proud IPA. It's a beer to benefit the victims of the devastating Camp fire in Northern California. You can find a map of all the breweries that are taking place here: www.sierranevada.com/resilience-butte-county-proud-ipa Make sure to follow the show on all social media outlets @BeerHarmonyShow and check out www.beerharmonyshow.com for even more beer! The weather is cooling down and we're getting into the holiday spirit with a seasonal classic in the beer world. We are drinking the 2018 Christmas Ale from Anchor Brewing in San Francisco, CA. Anchor has been releasing the Christmas Ale since 1975, and it has a slightly different recipe every year. This year's version has flavors of toasty cocoa, brûléed sugars, roasted malts and strong aromas of resinous pine. Will this be a harmonious winner? Or will there be too much bitterness to get on the same page? What beer is your favorite to have around Christmas time?Make sure to follow the show on all social media outlets @BeerHarmonyShow and check out www.beerharmonyshow.com for even more beer! This is a special release that Brewery De Brabandere is doing with Trader Joe's grocery stores. The second release in the series, this one is five out of five on the sour scale, full of oak flavor and claims to be the champagne of sours. Will this be too much sour for us? Samuel Adams is one of the biggest craft breweries in the world, producing 4 million barrels of beer just last year. But does more mean better when it comes to their seasonal releases? We're drinking and reviewing Samuel Adams Winter Lager, a winter bock spiced with cinnamon, ginger, and orange peel. This could prove to be the easy drinking, light, spicy beer that brings beer harmony to everyone. It could also be a gimmicky, over spiced lager that sits in the back of the fridge until an unsuspecting friend comes over.We want to know what your favorite light winter beer is, or if you've had a Samuel Adams Winter Lager. You can find Beer Harmony on all the social media outlets: www.facebook.com/beerharmonyshow, www.instagram.com/beerharmonyshow, and www.twitter.com/beerharmonyshow. Cheers beer lovers! We are back with a new review from a classic brewery in the craft beer world. Today's beer is Pranqster Belgian Style Golden Ale from North Coast Brewing in Northern California. With a floral nose of bananas, cloves, and spices, this lighter beer is meant for hot days with a light banana and fruit flavor. But don't let the lighter drink-ability and color fool you, this Pranqster is not messing around with the ABV. The problem with this beer? One of us is not a fan and this episode is definitely lacking harmony.
