Meet Tamar Banner, a veteran of the craft beer industry, having started brewing professionally in the US in 2001. In more than 24 years of brewing, she has worked in the brewhouse, cellar, packaging, quality, and management. She is currently the brewmaster at To Øl Brewery in Denmark where she manages brewing, packaging, quality and recipe development. Prior to To Øl, she worked for Harpoon Brewery in both Boston and Vermont, New Belgium Brewery in Fort Collins, Colorado, and BrewDog Brewery in Canal Winchester, Ohio. As a Certified Cicerone, she has a passion for beer/food pairing, and speaks regularly at beer dinners, festivals, and events. She holds a bachelor's degree from Yale University and a master's degree in Brewing and Distilling Science from Heriot Watt University.  She has been on the board of two different chapters of the Master Brewers Association of the Americas, and is currently an active member of the Danish Brewmasters Association.  In her spare time, she loves experimenting with other forms of fermentation, and makes her own cheeses at home. And with such a decorated career, we invited Tamar to deliver a keynote address at our Brewers Congress event in London last Autumn. In this extract from that talk, Tamar asked brewers if they thought their beer tastes the way they intended when the customer is drinking it? And if brewers are satisfied with how their beer tastes at the end of its shelf life. She also emphasised the need for industry collaboration, better refrigeration practices, and consumer education to ensure fresher beer.

Kathleen opens the show drinking a Mike's Pastry Cannoli Stout from Harpoon Brewery. She reviews her travels, including shows in Ridgefield CT, Wilmington DE, Santa Barbara CA, and Thousand Oaks CA as well as a weekend at Lake of the Ozarks fishing with her dad. “GOOD BAD FOOD”: In her quest for new and delicious not-so-nutritious junk food AND in continuing her search for the best Ranch, Kathleen samples Stonewall Kitchen's Bacon Ranch Dressing, which she absolutely loves. She then tastes Best Foods Spicy Mayonnaise, which she doesn't like because it has too much heat and not enough “tang.” She finishes off her tasting with Herr's Honey Sriracha Kettle Cooked chips, which she finds conflicting with the sweet aftertaste but thinks honey lovers will like them. QUEEN'S COURT: Kathleen shares her experience seeing Queen Stevie Nicks live at Red Rocks on May 11th. Queen Dolly has announced that she'll gracefully accept if voted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and has partnered with Taco Bell to create a TikTok musical about the Mexican Pizza menu item. UPDATES: Kathleen gives updates on Meghan Markle's animated series for Netflix, the Spirit Airlines merger with either Frontier or JetBlue, and the latest on Anna Delvey's deportation.IMMERSIVE DIGITAL CONCERTS ON THE RISE: As a follow-up to Episode 56, Kathleen reads about the upcoming ABBA avatar concert debut in London, entitled ABBA Voyage. The music industry has taken note of the success of this production, and other “Immersive” concepts such as the Immersive Van Gogh exhibit, and are looking to expand concert productions in this manner. Kathleen then reviews her latest Immersive experience, which was the Immersive Frida Kahlo exhibit in Los Angeles. “HOLY SHIT THEY FOUND IT”: Kathleen is amazed to read about the discovery of a Norwegian sandal from the Iron Age in Norway's Horse Ice Patch, and a 2,000-year-old marble sculpture of a Roman bust in an Austin Goodwill. THE OLDEST NUN IN THE WORLD: Kathleen reads an article announcing that French nun Sister Andre has been anointed as the oldest nun in the world at the age of 118 years.THE END OF THE ALABAMA PRISON BREAK: Kathleen was slightly obsessed with the activities of the Alabama fugitives on the run after Vicky White helped convicted murderer Casey White escape from prison. She offers her thoughts on motives, etc., and is saddened to read the final details of how the two were captured by Indiana authorities. QANTAS ANNOUNCES 20-HOUR FLIGHT LAUNCH: Kathleen reads a news release from Qantas Airlines who have announced that they are including direct flights from Sydney to London and NYC in their pending 2025 schedule. Each flight will take approx. 20 hours, making them the world's longest passenger flights. JUMPING WORMS CONCERN SCIENTISTS: Kathleen is horrified to read an article about the introduction of a new species of jumping worms, called amynthas worms. Originally from East Asia, they have made their way to the US and are becoming a problem to the NE ecosystem. Brought to you by The Real Voice - Mel Allen. Providing voice over for commercials, podcasts, explainer videos, and more. Samples and demos at https://therealvoice.com Well, Harpoon Brewery and Mike's Pastry in Boston have teamed up once again. This time with two brews Harpoon Mike's Pastry Cannoli Stout has an alcohol by volume, or ABV, of 7.3 percent. It's made with real Mike's Pastry cannoli shells in addition to a combination of cocoa nibs, lactose and vanilla to mimic the flavor of a famous Mike's cannoli. “Barrel-Aged Mike's Pastry Cannoli Stout” uses the same recipe, however Harpoon ages the liquid for months in premium rye whiskey barrels to add layers of vanilla, spice and caramel. As a result the aged stout has an ABV of 9 percent. For every case of beer sold in February, Harpoon will donate a portion of the proceeds to “Real Men Wear Pink,” an American Cancer Society-affiliated organization since next month is National Cancer Awareness Month. Anyone lucky enough to have bought a 4-pack of the regular or barrel-aged variety of the cannoli stout on location today received two Mike's cannolis! https://www.masslive.com/food/2022/01/harpoon-brewery-and-mikes-pastry-of-boston-team-up-again-with-two-limited-release-cannoli-stout-flavors-plan-launch-event-in-february.html Well Dry January is behind us - but it's going to be different going forward as it has been for the past few years! Nonalcoholic beer had suffered a pretty bad rep in the United States for decades. But over the past few years a lot of independent craft brewers, have been more motivated to experiment with, and invest in, finding ways to make nonalcoholic beer that lives up to the standards of the brewers and the drinkers. Now I know I've talked about Zero Gravity's Rescue Club and Athletic Brewing in the past, but let's shine a light on some others. I have to run two Boston stories back to back, but I'm doing it - so grab a Dunky's and jump into this story https://www.wbur.org/news/2022/01/21/dry-january-nonalcoholic-beer-trend Sure, I slept on the Naples Winter Wine Fest - but I'm not sleeping on this one. The West Slope Foundation, along with wineries from Fair Play, and Creekside Cork and Brew host the Out of the Ashes Wine and Appetizer Pairing Fundraiser Saturday, Feb. 5 in Somerset California. Expect more than 15 local wineries pouring wines paired with appetizers and small bites prepared. This fundraising event will also feature live music, silent auction, live auction and more — with funds assisting Caldor Fire victims. Tickets will not be available at the door. https://www.mtdemocrat.com/prospecting/out-of-the-ashes-pairs-wine-food-and-fun/ The Boozebuddy Update continues on video! Harpoon Brewery is an East Coast IPA OG In 1986 Harpoon Brewery received brewery permit #001 in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.  The first brewery in the state since Prohibition, only 35 years ago. IPAs were more of a West Coast thing at the time and the launch of Harpoon IPA in 1993 was a bold move for an East Coast brewery.  Fans to took these crazy, hoppy beers and the rest is history. Chief Brewing Office Al Marzi, Senior Brewery Mike Kelly, and Director of Digital Strategy Megan Baker cracked a few cold ones with us as they shared their knowledge with us.  We chat about the evolution of the IPA, emerging ingredients in craft beer, what it means to be an employed-owned company, and smattering of other topics. It's hard to believe the craft beer scene in the Northeast is a mere 35 years old.  Harpoon was there to see (and make) it happen, and there's more to come. Oh yeah, how could I forget... this is EPISODE 300 of Beer Guys Radio.  Woot!

Today I'm drinking a Winter Warmer from Harpoon Brewery https://www.harpoonbrewery.com/beer/winter-warmer/ And is it a bones day or no bones day, if you don't know what I'm talking about Noodle the Pug on TikTok (https://www.tiktok.com/@jongraz) is an internet sensation and, in an effort to recognize Mental Health Awareness and self care, Tall Tale Brewing in Parsonsburg, MD is releasing No Bones Day IPA. It appears to be available in the taproom now, but will be in distribution soon with a fresh look https://mybeerbuzz.blogspot.com/2021/11/tall-tales-brewing-working-on-no-bones.html In September, it wasn't just carrying the first ever all-civilian crew into space. Inspiration4 also carried 66 pounds of hops! The hops has touched down in “Space Craft” beer from Samuel Adams. The special release beer will be served at its Boston Brewery and Taproom and its Cincinnati Brewery starting today. But, with out of this world demand for the beer, it's sold out for online/home delivery orders. If you can get it in person, the beer that spend 2 days, 23 hours and 3 minutes circling earth is selling for $22.33. https://www.boston.com/food/beer/2021/11/04/space-craft-sam-adams-uses-hops-that-have-been-to-space/ In Microbrewery News, the Tunbridge, VT area will again have a general store, a world-famous fair and is also the home to its own brewery, Upper Pass Beer Co. Residents of this great community may never leave town again - especially since a planned two-story addition and facility space increase will allow brewing capacity to grow from 10-15 barrels a week to 40! Those mainly will be small batch releases and new recipes as Upper Pass currently produces 600 to 800 barrels per month at von Trapp Brewery in Stowe, Vermont (https://www.vontrappbrewing.com). Upper Pass Beer Co.'s beers are available in cans and on draft in eight states. https://www.vnews.com/Bottom-Line-for-Nov-14-2021-43455188 Find out more about your host The Real Voice - Mel Allen.
