Innovative protein brands and proactive meetings. The hosts advocate for both in this episode, which also features an interview with Trey Zoeller, the founder of pioneering whiskey maker Jefferson's Bourbon, a brand recognized by and awarded for its Ocean Aged At Sea expression, a whiskey matured on ships that travel around the world. Show notes: 0:25: Bag It. Face To Face > Email. Take A Minute. The Liver! Fridge Pop. We are honored to share a conversation with Russian River Brewing Company's Founder Vinnie Cilurzo. We talk about Vinnie's homebrewing roots and opening his first brewery, before diving into the origin stories of 6 of his most iconic beers: Blind Pig IPA, Pliny the Elder, Pliny the Younger, Happy Hops, STS Pils, and Consecration. Plus, so much more! Vinnie will be revealing homebrew recipes of these beers in a BYO article dropping very soon. Watch the full video interview with Vinnie!
In this second installment of our trip to the 2024 Firestone Walker Invitational in Paso Robles, CA. we change things up a bit topic-wise. For this discussion we decided to cover some of the things that breweries do other than beer, like community outreach, partnerships, causes, and involvement in things that their customers care about. So we enlisted Natalie Cilurzo from Russian River Brewing in California, DJ MCCready from Mountain Culture in New South Wales, Australia, and Bob Kunz from Highland Park in Los Angeles. Listen in as we discuss it all live from the Firestone Walker Invitational Beer Festival. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
Send us a Text Message. For this episode of Brewstilled, it's a recap of the penultimate of HBO's House of the Dragon Season 2. For episode 7, we saw some fascinating developments for a character driven episode. Such developments will no doubt pave the way forward for season 2 and likely into season 3. We also saw further divides within Team Green and Team Black. There is no doubt the battle lines are further being drawn and how that impacts the coming season 2 storyline remains to be seen. We saw Alicent embark on a new journey while Daemon might be facing a day of reckoning. For Rhaenyra she may have found some momentum. I'll be recapping it here on Brewstilled, with an IPA from Russian River Brewing as the beer pairing. It's all here on Brewstilled.
On this episode we watch Ponzinibbio vs Salikhov while we have a beer from Russian River Brewing called Pliny the Elder.
Renée DeLuca and Don Barkley Renée DeLuca, Jack McAuliffe's daughter, is our special guest today on Brew Ha Ha with Steve Jaxon and Herlinda Heras. This is Renée's first time on Brew Ha Ha. Her father is one of the most famous figures in craft brewing history. She is visiting Santa Rosa to attend the celebration at the Museum of Sonoma County this coming Saturday, July 20 from 4pm-8pm. It will be in the sculpture garden which is becoming a beer garden for the event. Don Barkley is also in the studio today. He was our in-studio guest on this episode just three weeks ago. This is part one of the podcast of their live radio show, featuring Renée DeLuca with Herlinda Heras and Steve Jaxon. In part two of the podcast, Don Barkley joins them in the studio. That episode is right here.
Today we watch the fight between Fakhretdinov and Dalby while we have a beer from Russian River Brewing called Row 2 Hill 56. Hope you enjoy.
Today we watch Adam Fugitt vs. Josh Quinlan and give our thoughts on the decision. We give our picks for UFC 303, and have one of our favorite beers from Russian River Brewing called Blind Pig.
Send us a Text Message. For this episode of Brewstilled, I'll be recapping episode 2 of the House of the Dragon season 2 from HBO. Episode 2 starts out immediately from the aftermath from the events of episode 1. With just 2 episodes in for season 2, we're seeing what is becoming an escalating storyline. We saw perspectives from the viewpoints of Team Green and Team Black in this episode as we saw more of their struggles, goals and desires. We saw more secret alliances unfold, but as we all know nothing is ever what it appears to be in the Game of Thrones universe. I'll be recapping it all here on Brewstilled with a Pale Ale from Russian River Brewing as the beer pairing.
For this episode of Brewstilled, it's the inaugural power rankings for the House of the Lombardi. In this episode, I'll be ranking all 10 teams for the House of the Lombardi in terms of where they stand in the summer before the 2024 NFL season. Each of the House of the Lombardi teams have their own strengths, weaknesses and storylines that will play a role in determining their destiny in the 2024 NFL season. I'll discuss the list and where each team ranks and how anything can change between now and the 2024 NFL season. An IPA from Russian River Brewing is on tap for the beer pairing. It's all here on Brewstilled!
The Pink Boot Society national conference Taylor Lane is our guest on Brew Ha Ha with Steve Jaxon and Herlinda Heras. She is local chapter president of the Pink Boots Society. She is also a Lab Supervisor for Gallo Sonoma, and used to do the same job for Russian River Brewing. Also in the studio today is Simone Yingst from the Santa Rosa Central Library. We also have a special guest, Simone Yingst from the Sonoma County Library. She is an adult services librarian at the downtown Santa Rosa library. There is a talk series called The Future is Fermented, happening at the library on May 22. The Pink Boots Society The Pink Boots Society is a national organization founded in 2007 by a woman brewer who realized that she was often the only woman in the room at beer events. They work on education, offer scholarships and support networking among its members. They have expanded their membership from beer people to people who work with any fermented beverages, and from women to also include non-binary persons. The Pink Boots Society National Conference will be in Philadelphia, June 24-26, 2024. See our sponsor Victory House at Poppy Bank Epicenter online, for their latest viewing and menu options. Taylor Lane has a Bachelor's and a Master's Degree in Microbiology. She thought that would lead her into the veterinary or pharma field, but she discovered fermentation when she took a class in fermentation while in grad school. That made her realize that she knew all about the processes of making beer and other fermented foods and beverages. A job at Russian River would soon follow, as the lab supervisor. Taylor continues to thrive in the same role at Gallo Sonoma. Russian River Brewing Co. is open in Santa Rosa on 4th St. and at their big Windsor location. Visit their website for up-to-date hours, menus, beers and more. A delivery has just arrived from Old Possum and Flagship BBQ who are putting on a birthday event soon. As we know, Flagship is now operating the kitchen at Old Possum. They were here on BHH in January to announce it. Visit Homerun Pizza, home of the Knuckleball! Fresh pizza dough made from scratch daily, la pizza è deliziosa! The subject of the talk on May 22 is Burnout in a Passion-based Business. The Future is Fermented, happening at the library on May 22.
John Burton, beer memorabilia collector, is our guest on Brew Ha Ha with Steve Jaxon and Herlinda Heras today. He is working with Herlinda Heras who is assisting the Museum of Sonoma County with its upcoming exhibition ON TAP, about Sonoma County hops and the history or craft brewing. John Burton made a great collection of beer memorabilia while he worked as a bartender in Santa Rosa for a long time. He also operates a well-known bartending school called Santa Rosa Bartending. Herlinda has organized interviews with some of the biggest names in local beer history, like Tony McGee and Mark Carpenter, for the museum. She connected them to John Burton and he will be providing some choice items for the exhibit. Grace Bros. was a local brand that started in 1897 in Santa Rosa and the brand continued until the late 1960s. John's collection of bottles and cans starts in their first year. John has a lot of Grace Bros. pieces. A 1960s Grace Bros. Beer Commercial In the show, we hear a 30-second commercial for Grace Bros. beer, from John's collection. It was recorded probably in the 1960s in Hollywood, California. In the 1940s, Grace Bros. was the fourth-largest brewery in California. Here is the commercial: http://brewhaharadio.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/Grace_Bros_Beer_30_sec.mp3 Russian River Brewing Co. is open in Santa Rosa on 4th St. and at their big Windsor location. Visit their website for up-to-date hours, menus, beers and more. John Burton is a member of a beer memorabilia organization that organizes exhibits. Herlinda's friend Ken Hartoonian also has a collection. He was a guest on Brew Ha Ha recently. John shares memories of the Grace family and how they decided to stay in Santa Rosa instead of Southern California. See our sponsor Victory House at Poppy Bank Epicenter online, for their latest viewing and menu options. John is also the writer and publisher of some books about his collection. He has also written an instructional book about bartending, called Bartending Basics. Herlinda is organizing a reception for all of the ‘legends' of the local brewing industry. She will invite the founding fathers and mothers of the business. She is looking forward to the On Tap exhibition being full of really interesting, beautiful and memorable material. Visit Homerun Pizza, home of the Knuckleball! Fresh pizza dough made from scratch daily, la pizza è deliziosa! Russian River Brewing is a sponsor of the exhibit, so is Lagunitas and Oliver's Market. The sculpture garden is beautiful and they will turn it into a beer garden for one evening. The grand opening is April 27.

Welcome to Episode 126 of Beer Belly! Today, John and A.J. give their thoughts on Pliny for President TDH DIPA 2024 and talk about experiencing Gurren Lagann in 4D. The boys also rate their top IPA's by Russian River Brewing Co., have a deep conversation about the weirdest places they grow hair, and much more! You can help support the show on Venmo!
There are few businesses I'd travel multiple hours to visit, but Russian River Brewing is one of them—and I am most certainly not alone. Vinnie and Natalie Cilurzo are the minds behind Pliny the Younger, one of the culty-est brews in the world, and one that is only available for a short time each spring. The brewery only makes a certain amount of this perfectly-balanced triple IPA, and only sells it for two weeks in March. People from around the globe line up outside their two locations to wait for the doors to open, and the economic impact on Sonoma County stands at $6.1 million, just for Pliny the Younger week. We talked about Vinnie growing up in a pioneering Temecula winery, how they met when Natalie bought booze for an underaged Vinnie, and the terror they felt that first time Pliny caught the world's attention. I drove to their second location in Windsor for the day to hang out and chat, and the nine hours I spent driving were absolutely worth it. Vinnie Cilurzo and Jessica Young join The Session to discuss the nuances of hop creep and what you can do about it in your brewery. Jessica is a grad student studying hop creep while working for Russian River and contributes a ton of science to Vinnie's real world applications on the subject. We are also joined by our good friend Nate Smith to help on the homebrew side of things. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
Owning a craft brewery has never been tougher, and nobody knows this better than Kelly Meyer. The former owner of New Braunfels Brewery in Texas for a decade, Kelly sold the company in 2021 and through his struggles and frustrations wrote a book called How Not To Start a Damn Brewery. This turned into a podcast where he interviews breweries who have closed or are struggling in order to pull out the learnings from the various failures, as there is inevitably more to learn from failure than success. Kelly and Cee spoke about his brewery ownership journey, the struggle to land guests for his podcast, the current craft beer landscape and where it could go in future, and his plans for a follow-up book based on all the wisdom obtained via the pod. They both drank beers from breweries that they felt were doing things right, including Godspeed's Sklepnik, Tree House's Super Cachet and Barncat Artisan Ales Cuvée Matt & Jeremy on Cee's side, and Yokefellow Ilk, Russian River Peach Beer 2022, and Hair of the Dog Matt 2022 on Kelly's side. Russian River Brewing Co. is approaching its twentieth anniversary next year of the downtown Santa Rosa pub. It is also the twentieth anniversary of Pliny the Younger. Natalie talks about a seasonal release called “It takes a lot of great beer to make great wine.” It is a light and refreshing hoppy blonde ale, about 5.25% alcohol. Russian River Brewing Co. is finishing a construction project at the Windsor pub, turning one of their production spaces into a Lager house. They will brew more STS Pils and Velvet Glow Lager. The package will be a 6-pack of 12-ounce cans for the first time, which will be available in November or December. Hop Time Harvest Ale is coming out soon, using all Alexander Valley grown hops. Also, Natalie and Vinny will be making their annual trip to the Pacific Northwest to select hops from this year's harvest. The Fall Season at Epicenter The Fall is a busy season at Epicenter. Nearly a quarter century ago, veteran brewer Vinnie Cilurzo brewed a one-off double IPA at Russian River Brewing for a local festival. It would become a regular, bearing the somewhat obscure name of a Roman naturalist—Pliny the Elder. Pliny pretty soon became a cult phenomenon and ultimately the brewery's calling card. But what makes it special—what makes it a classic—is how Vinnie anticipated the future of hoppy American ales and brewed the first truly modern IPA all those years ago. PHOTO: Russian River Brewing

To kick off Season 2: Episode 29 ATB welcomed one of the biggest names in craft beer, Natalie Cilurzo of Russian River Brewing. Natalie and her husband Vinny recently signed up to help the people of Ukraine by joining Pravda Brewing in the Victory Beer Series and brewing their version of Putin Huylo. Natalie was a great guest and ATB was blessed to have her commit some time to come on the podcast.Following Natalie's interview, Rob from Hazeboiz called in to discuss kids at the brewery. Why would we give an entire segment to an argument as old as time in the craft beer world? Well it just so happens that one of ATB's favorite local breweries, Twin Elephant, was recently called out by some unruly Chad on the interwebs. Simply stated, we had to take the opportunity to defend a top notch local business and take a few cheap shots at the clown who brought this train wreck upon himself. We hope you all enjoy this week's episode! Thank you for tuning in!
