Just Friends is a charming little comedy starring Ryan Reynolds before he ascended into super stardom. As Chris Brander, Reynolds plays a heavy-set high schooler whose love for his best friend Jamie Palamino (Amy Smart) is unrequited. Flash forward 10 years and Brander is now fit and successful. He begrudgingly returns to his hometown in New Jersey and takes one last shot with his longtime crush. Hijinks and hilarity ensue. Not well reviewed at the time of its release and with a middling box office, Just Friends has become a cult classic. That is thanks in large part to a bonkers performance from Anna Faris as loony pop star Samantha James; and an incredible villainous turn from Chris Klein as Dusty Dinkleman—a fellow high school nerd who also loved Jamie. If you slept on it in 2005, we don't blame you. But forgiveness is more than saying sorry. It's time to watch Just Friends now! It is a Christmas movie, after all. Now, sit back, reminisce about old times with a Holly Days IPA from MadTree Brewing, and good luck in those rented skates! I, the Thunderous Wizard (@WriterTLK), Capt. Cash, and Bling Blake are skiing in jeans as New Jersey's finest should! This Week's Segments: Introduction/Plot Breakdown – He loves her. She loves him not! This week, we dive into some sweet sweet deals thanks to King's Hawaiian and their worlds largest display in Jungle Jim's! We're running specials on those through Thanksgiving for only $2.99 a package, and you'll meet the team from King's Hawaiian next week on the show. Then, we welcome one of the best breweries in the country, Third Eye Brewing, to our neighborhood here and discuss their brewing processes and more. Then, we're joined by Madtree Brewing, Founders Brewing Co, Bell's Brewery, New Belgium Brewing, and 50 West brewery to talk about our 'Giving Thanks' toy drive and pint night benefiting the Play Library at PlayLibrary.org - Bring a toy and get entered into a raffle to win some excellent prizes, one of which is a sweet looking New Belgium Brewing bicycle that is in my studio currently. If you come and bring a toy, please make sure it is not a stuffed toy as they are nearly impossible for Play Library to sanitize properly for the next user. All that and more on the Jungle Jim's show!
Joe and Caroline are back (back) to discuss the complete and utter chaos in their lives. In this week's episode, they discuss how Caroline's clumsiness finally wore off on Joe, bringing the kids (pack-n-play and all) to Madtree Brewing to heckle the Gnome, making German cuisine, all while drinking more random beers from the back of their beer fridge.*** Spread the Word and Connect With UsIf you like what you hear, please leave us a rating and review. I'm kicking the episode off by tasting Pepsi's new drink made in collaboration with Peeps. Why they didn't call it Peepsi is beyond me. I'm also giving a try to a new line of cookies from Matt's Bakery, which you can now find in our international department. Hot Sauce Mike comes back to try out an entire new line of sauces that are hitting shelves from one of my personal favorites, Duke's Mayonnaise. Then, we sit down with Kenny, Brady, Sam, and Nick of MadTree Brewing to talk about the past, present, and future of MadTree Brewing. Did you know they were one of Cincinnati's first canning facilities? Do you know about their awesome carbon offset program? Find out more as we all hang out and try some new brews.
This week, we try out the new Trick or Treat Hard Seltzers from Urban Artifact and wow, those tricks are potent. We meet the creator and CEO of Lemon Perfect water who has almost as much energy as Mark does. Hey Listener, we're gearing up for the big “Six Bomb Boards Presents The Death Row Show” at Madtree Brewing in in Cincinnati this Saturday April 30th from 4 PM to 10 PM. One of my favorite Live Artists, Holly Funk, comes on the show to discuss what it's like making art in front of a room full of people. Topics this week include: Large Japanese drums. Is Live Art performance art? “It's not just white guys with beards…but it's a lot of white guys with beards”. When did you start drawing things? “I'm a good problem solver, but I'm not creative”. Artists sniffing their own farts. Playing in a Jackson Pollock cover band. What artists do you look at for inspiration? Swiping vs. photocopying. Why is Adobe so complicated? Digital art vs. Analog art. Your host has a Live Art panic attack. Stories of interacting with the public of yore. Graduating art school and then people stop making art. Your host loves humor in artwork. How do you feel when you're making Live Art? Shout to Woodward Cinema and SecretBase Theater. Hands are weird flesh spiders. Nationalism sucks. The anxiety and frustration of trying to make art happen in Cincinnati and shouting out a lot of incredible local artists.
Manifesting a Mission Statement.Madtree Brewing is a Cincinnati community leader when it comes to manifesting their mission statement of creating environments of conversation, trees and craftspeople. We chat with co-founder, Brady Duncan & Director of Strategic Impact, Rhiannon Hoeweler about how they and their leadership team are building a brand culture that not only serves great beer but also is positively impacting the community and our environment.Follow When Pigs Fly:Facebook, Instagram, TwitterFollow MadtreeWebsite, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter
When Brady Duncan and Kenny McNutt founded MadTree Brewing Co. in 2013, the craft beer boom was just getting started. A few years later, MadTree was one of the biggest craft breweries in Ohio, but Brady started to feel like it was just like any of the other thousands of operations across the country. On episode 112, Brady tells us about his resetting process, how to create a values-led organization, and discusses the hardest part of any job: the people. Like every business, MadTree has been thrown some curveballs by the pandemic, but it's poised to grow in new ways in 2022, including the opening of Alcove. Show Notes: - Learn more about MadTree's Alcove bar and restaurant: https://www.madtreebrewing.com/news/madtree-alcove
In this episode recorded in Nashville, Tennessee during the Yazoo Brewing Funk Fest Brady Duncan, a co-founder and Ryan Blevins, the head brewer, of MadTree Brewing share thoughts on IPA and lager, and the fun and hard work that comes with day-to-day operations. The brewery has come a long way since Duncan and his other homebrew-minded founders went pro. Fueled by the growth of their IPA, but with a passion for lagers and crazy experimentation - that's where the “mad” comes in - they are constantly turning out new beers and trying to push within and beyond established styles. The "tree" stems from their environmental commitment. They walk the walk with giving back, not only being part of the 1% for the Planet initiative, but by making volunteerism part of employment, and thinking about ways they can lower the brewery's carbon footprint and be better stewards of the earth. Our new format will feature one big topic called, "The Big Chug." This week's Big Chug topic is the sprouting Cleveland Cavaliers! We'll also have some small segments, now known as "Quick Sips," on the Blue Jackets and Buckeyes. It's all tied together with our "Beer of The Week" from Madtree!
John and Mark ventured to Madtree Brewing in Cincinnati for a socially distanced in-person episode. The brunch menu from Catch a Fire was very inviting! John had the hash quesadilla and Mark had shrimp and grits. Both were outstanding, especially with the Madtree beer for breakfast. They talked a little about the worsening COVID-19 problems. The plan was to talk about how they were keeping up with the roller-coaster election results, but as they finished their first beer, Joe Biden was declared the next President of the United States.
John and Mark started off talking about the upcoming election. They enjoyed the Every Vote Counts Hazy Pale Ale from Madtree Brewing. They had a really cool conversation about activist, digital rights leader and scifi author Cory Doctorow. His books Little Brother and Homeland were influential in further crafting their world view. John has started Cory's new book, Attack Surface, and taunted Mark about how good it was so far!

MadTree Brewing looks to give back as they celebrate 7 years This week we head to Ohio to chat with MadTree Brewing's Trevor Self. Trevor has worn a lot of hats during his time with the brewery. He started out like many others, volunteering his time to help can delicious beers. This eventually let to a real, paid position and finally into a QA role where he helped transition MadTree to their fancy new (and much larger) brewhouse. Today, Trevor is Assistant Brand Manager, spreading the word about MadTree mission and beers. We find out about the plans for their 7th anniversary, their recent commitment to 1% for the Planet, the brew scene in Ohio, and lots of hot coffee beer talk. In the news Brian shares another story about how Big Beer just can't catch a break, and the fact that there are laws when you're drinking Claws. We also dive into Pontoon Brewing's Rainbow Smiggles again, and I continue my exploration of NA Beers with a trio from Bravus. Photos: MadTree Brewing Co. We jump back to a special moment in our Charlie Tonic / Bottoms Up history. In episode #14 of this very show, we sat down with a brewery that was just beginning to make a real name for itself in the city; MadTree Brewing. They were 18 months into their life as a company back in 2013 and this interview provided an amazing glimpse at three guys who stood just on the verge of something incredible. As we wrote in the show notes at the time... "A local brewery that makes some great beer is one thing. A local brewery that makes some great beer AND has a taproom that feels like an extension of your backyard, where you can hang out, play corn hole, and get some great food from the food truck parked outside is another. MadTree Brewing has been selling beer for less than 18 months and they have managed to achieve both of these things. This week Ginny and Charlie sit down with the three owners of MadTree to talk beer, business, and how to win over investors. You won't want to miss it!" As they recently celebrate their five year anniversary, we thought it was a perfect time to invite you to the bar for a re-listen of this conversation!

Science degrees can be found in the most intriguing careers. This week Lab Out Loud talks with Becca Ransohoff, an analytical chemist for MadTree Brewing in Cincinnati, Ohio. In June, MadTree released Entropic Theory (a hoppy, juicy IPA) with a special can launch party whereby a portion of the proceeds were donated to iSPACE, a local non-profit that promotes education of science, engineering, technology and math for kids. Also a product of science and research, MadTree invested over two years of planning and testing to develop Entropic Theory. Becca joins co-hosts Brian Bartel and Dale Basler to talk about Entropic Theory and the science behind its creation, while describing her job as an analytical chemist at MadTree Brewing. Show notes at: http://laboutloud.com/2017/10/episode-173-entropic-theory/
It may be a slow time for sports, but Scott and Mike still find two hours of material for you this week! The fellas crack open some Entropic Theory by MadTree Brewing while they talk about what could have derailed OJ’s parole, hating your rival, Mike Vick going after Kaep, Tom Herman possibly going a step too far, impersonating Chad Johnson, and missing out on Stanley Cup tickets. Scott and Mike field some drunk line calls and dive deep into fixing the NFL viewership before getting a Mayweather/McGregor update from Blake Stephenson.
