Lieutenant Colonel Dean Canham joined the Army in 2000 and has deployed operationally to Northern Ireland, Sierra Leone, Afghanistan, and Estonia. He was appointed an OBE in 2018 for his work on security sector reform in Somalia and South Sudan, and took command of the 1 Mercian Battle Group in 2020 before his appointment as Head of the Centre for Army Leadership in 2023.
