Most chiropractors don’t lose freedom because they lack systems. They lose it because they keep stepping back in. In this episode, I unpack why high-performing chiropractors unconsciously take control back — even after building structure — and how that behaviour quietly recreates dependency in their practice. You’ll learn a simple 3-question leadership filter, how to assess problems without micromanaging, and how to protect the freedom you’re working so hard to build. If you’ve ever said, “I’ll just fix this once,” this episode is for you.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Summary In this episode, Andy talks with Wharton economist Judd Kessler, author of Lucky by Design: The Hidden Economics You Need to Get More of What You Want. If you have ever looked at someone else's career success and thought, "They just got lucky," this conversation will give you a new lens. Judd introduces the idea of "hidden markets," the informal rules and systems that shape who gets opportunities, access, and scarce resources, even when money is not changing hands. They explore how leaders can evaluate allocation rules using Judd's three Es (equitable, efficient, and easy), why first come, first served "races" often reward availability more than merit, and how waiting lists can quietly shift costs onto the people least able to pay them. You will also hear Judd's "settle for silver" strategy, a practical way to make smarter choices in competitive markets, plus a thoughtful parenting angle on teaching kids to notice rules and incentives early. If you're looking for a fresh, research-backed perspective on how hidden rules shape who gets opportunities at work and in life, this episode is for you! Sound Bites "The goal of the book is to get people to start to recognizing these markets all around us." "In most of these markets, they play by a simple rule that we all understand, which is if you're willing to pay for the thing, then you get it." "Is the way that we're deciding who gets what... is it equitable? Is it efficient? And is it easy for market participants?" "I open my calendar and I see all these recurring meetings on my calendar, recurring meetings that were set up years or months ago. That's first in time, first in right." "If you understand the rules and develop strategies to get what you want from the market, then you actually can be one of the handful that actually gets the thing, that desirable outcome, and then it will look like you got lucky." "It's always going to be the folks who are in the market winning who are always going to think that it's fair." "Once you start thinking like, how am I actually allocating these things? That's when you've put on that market designer hat." "They'll come to you kind of with half-baked ideas because they know if they wait later on until they can fully bake the idea that the resources or the fun parts of the project might already be gone." "Part of what the Settle for Silver / Go for Gold Strategy is forcing you to do, is to think seriously about what you want and why you want it." "You, as a parent, you are designing the markets that your kids play in all the time." "We're not breaking the rules, but we are figuring out what they are so that we can put ourselves in a good position, and that's going to serve you well." "Maybe by being in the office, you are signaling your dedication to the firm that you're available for all of these opportunities." "If it's something that anybody can do, like send a quick email, right? That's, it's not actually costly. Anybody could send that email even if they're not truly dedicated and eager for the opportunity." "You cannot get all three E's for sure in any allocation mechanism. There's always going to be tradeoffs." With host retail coach Wendy Batten   https://wendybatten.com/podcast-intro/   Episode Overview In this episode, I'm addressing a question that comes up often at the beginning of the year for many retailers, after the hustle and bustle of Q4 ends and we naturally start reflecting on what we want next. I'm talking directly to shop owners who are quietly wondering if it's time to make a big change in their role in their retail business: whether that looks like taking some things off your plate or stepping away from it completely. I'll walk you through a simple but powerful assessment I use with clients before any big decision is made. This is not about rushing to sell or making dramatic changes. It's about slowing down and understanding what's actually creating tension in your business and your role and how to intentionally fix that tension. If you've ever thought, "Am I just tired, or is it time for something different," this episode will help you gain clarity before you decide anything. By the end, you'll have a clearer framework to evaluate your role, your business, and what options may truly be available to you. (I think some of them will surprise you!) Our Key Topics Asking whether it's ownership or your current role that feels heavy Looking at pay, hours, and profitability without hustle What happens if the business depends entirely on you How changing life seasons affect business alignment (and why it's okay!) The role curiosity plays in staying or stepping away Why outside perspective matters before big decisions Key Takeaways for Retailers Feeling tired doesn't automatically mean it's time to leave. Are you proud of what you've built and curious where it can go?   Changing your role can completely change how the business feels. Is there something you'd rather be doing to support your business?   A well-designed business should support your life.   Life seasons change, and it's okay to reassess. But don't "give away the farm" or simply close your doors. I can help.   Clarity must come before any major decision. Find an advisor or coach and see what creative solutions you can reach together. "The mistake is [making big decisions] before you understand what's actually driving the tension." -Wendy Batten If you're feeling uncertain, I invite you to listen, reflect, and give yourself space to gain clarity before deciding what's next. In the final episode of Live Let Thrive for 2025, I'm flying solo and getting real about what this year taught me as a real estate investor. While 2025 wasn't a loss, it was a stress test — especially during a slow season where mid-term demand softened and high-maintenance short-term holiday guests took center stage. In this episode, I break down why we're pivoting our strategy in 2026 by stepping back from heavy STR and MTR operations and refocusing on long-term rentals for stability, predictability, and sustainability. I explain how we're still using short-term rentals strategically for tax advantages like the STR loophole and cost segregation — but no longer building our entire business around them.I also share how turning ChatGPT into my CFO helped us analyze overhead, cut unnecessary expenses, and make clearer financial decisions — and why adaptability, not loyalty to a single strategy, is what keeps investors in the game long term.If you're feeling stretched by short-term rentals, questioning your current strategy, or looking to build real estate wealth that lasts beyond market cycles, this episode is for you.LLT info: Hit us up!www.LiveLetThrive.comLiveLetThrive@gmail.com@LiveLetThrive on the socials!Management Companies:ArgestRentals.comSharebnb.comLooking for a great Arbitrage? The Mindset Debrief: Improving emotional control, clarity, and leadership effectiveness in high-pressure situations. There's a split second before things go sideways. A message lands wrong, a meeting gets tense, a plan starts slipping, and you feel that pull to fix it now. To respond fast, clarify, correct, defend, or prove you're in control. But speed isn't the same thing as skill, and under stress, it's easy to treat the first thought as the best thought. That's where this episode lives: in the moment before the consequences show up.The concept of the discipline of stepping back, not as avoidance, silence, or “letting it go,” but as a deliberate pause is addressed, which creates space for clarity. Why so many capable people don't struggle with effort, they struggle with restraint, and how “control” quietly gets mistaken for “fast.” When emotions rise, your nervous system gets loud, assumptions start feeling like facts, and conversations turn into contests. Stepping back interrupts that chain before it turns a manageable problem into collateral damage. This episode reframes composure as something you build, not something you're born with. It's a skill that shows up through repetition: taking the breath on purpose, delaying the conversation you can't handle cleanly, and choosing timing that protects your judgment. You'll also learn why this matters beyond you. Stepping back changes how safe you are to be around when tension hits. It changes whether your presence steadies a room or heats it up. That's leadership, even without a title. This episode presents practices you can use at work, at home, and in any relationship where tone and timing matter. Write the draft without sending it. Put the message in your notes and let it sit. Delay decisions when you're emotionally compromised, not forever, just long enough to regain judgment. Use stepping back as a verification tool, so you don't assign meaning while you're charged up. And when you're about to speak or act, run one simple check: is this about helping the situation, or helping your feelings? Stepping back won't make you passive. It'll make you accurate, safer, and more effective.Share this episode with someone who could benefit from the information.CONNECT WITH THE PODCAST:IG: https://www.instagram.com/paulpantani/WEBSITE: https://www.transitiondrillpodcast.comLinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/paulpantani/SIGN-UP FOR THE NEWSLETTER:https://transitiondrillpodcast.com/home#aboutQUESTIONS OR COMMENTS:paul@transitiondrillpodcast.comSPONSORS:Frontline Optics Get 10% off your purchase Link: https://frontlineoptics.com Promocode: Transition10

Why Stepping Back Is the Key to Moving Forward in the Tire Industry

In this season-ending conversation of Johnny g & Friends, the question that we asked during every interview – How do you work on the business instead of in the business? – becomes the connective tissue for a powerful wrap-up of tire industry greatness. What emerges across these voices is a shared truth no matter the strategy or leadership style. The fact is, growth only happens when owners trust their people, step back with intention and learn to see their companies from above the daily grind. Some of this season's guests described the shift as a gradual climb – learning to listen differently, picking up ideas from peers, or letting experiences outside the tire industry reshape how they think. Others talked about moments that forced perspective, like stepping away for school, putting new decision-makers in charge, or creating “stress tests” where the team must run without the owner's voice for two straight weeks. The results were consistent: teams rise, leaders evolve, and businesses take on a new trajectory. For many, working on the business meant sharpening systems or simply walking into the store with the eyes of a customer. For others, it meant delegation, intentional learning, or acknowledging that leadership requires a different energy than turning wrenches or writing service orders.Taken together, these conversations reveal something bigger than process or policy. They show what greatness looks like in real shops, run by real families, in a real industry – owners who are present, invested and humble enough to grow by working on the business instead of in the business.

The Transformer architecture (which powers ChatGPT and nearly all modern AI) might be trapping the industry in a localized rut, preventing us from finding true intelligent reasoning, according to the person who co-invented it. Llion Jones and Luke Darlow, key figures at the research lab Sakana AI, join the show to make this provocative argument, and also introduce new research which might lead the way forwards.**SPONSOR MESSAGES START**—Build your ideas with AI Studio from Google - http://ai.studio/build—Tufa AI Labs is hiring ML Research Engineers https://tufalabs.ai/ —cyber•Fund https://cyber.fund/?utm_source=mlst is a founder-led investment firm accelerating the cybernetic economyHiring a SF VC Principal: https://talent.cyber.fund/companies/cyber-fund-2/jobs/57674170-ai-investment-principal#content?utm_source=mlstSubmit investment deck: https://cyber.fund/contact?utm_source=mlst—**END**The "Spiral" Problem – Llion uses a striking visual analogy to explain what current AI is missing. If you ask a standard neural network to understand a spiral shape, it solves it by drawing tiny straight lines that just happen to look like a spiral. It "fakes" the shape without understanding the concept of spiraling. Introducing the Continuous Thought Machine (CTM) Luke Darlow deep dives into their solution: a biology-inspired model that fundamentally changes how AI processes information. The Maze Analogy: Luke explains that standard AI tries to solve a maze by staring at the whole image and guessing the entire path instantly. Their new machine "walks" through the maze step-by-step.Thinking Time: This allows the AI to "ponder." If a problem is hard, the model can naturally spend more time thinking about it before answering, effectively allowing it to correct its own mistakes and backtrack—something current Language Models struggle to do genuinely.https://sakana.ai/https://x.com/YesThisIsLionhttps://x.com/LearningLukeDTRANSCRIPT:https://app.rescript.info/public/share/crjzQ-Jo2FQsJc97xsBdfzfOIeMONpg0TFBuCgV2Fu8TOC:00:00:00 - Stepping Back from Transformers00:00:43 - Introduction to Continuous Thought Machines (CTM)00:01:09 - The Changing Atmosphere of AI Research00:04:13 - Sakana's Philosophy: Research Freedom00:07:45 - The Local Minimum of Large Language Models00:18:30 - Representation Problems: The Spiral Example00:29:12 - Technical Deep Dive: CTM Architecture00:36:00 - Adaptive Computation & Maze Solving00:47:15 - Model Calibration & Uncertainty01:00:43 - Sudoku Bench: Measuring True ReasoningREFS:Why Greatness Cannot be planned [Kenneth Stanley]https://www.amazon.co.uk/Why-Greatness-Cannot-Planned-Objective/dp/3319155237https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lhYGXYeMq_E The Hardware Lottery [Sara Hooker]https://arxiv.org/abs/2009.06489https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sQFxbQ7ade0 Continuous Thought Machines [Luke Darlow et al / Sakana]https://arxiv.org/abs/2505.05522https://sakana.ai/ctm/ LSTM: The Comeback Story? Regularly scheduled thinking days, retreats, or mini-sabbaticals can help leaders gain fresh perspectives and break free from daily routines that hinder creativity. Leaders should focus on delegating tasks that drain their energy, allowing them to concentrate on high-impact projects and empowering their teams to grow and develop new skills. This special episode of the Rich Mind Podcast explores how our greatest pain points can become the powerful fuel for life-altering transformation. Randy is joined by a special guest, his daughter Adrienne, who shares a courageous and deeply personal story of leaving a long-term, controlling relationship that was detrimental to her mental and physical health. Adrienne walks through the process of losing her sense of self, the "straw that broke the camel's back" moment, and the immense courage it took to make the decision to leave, even without having all the answers. This conversation is an inspirational masterclass on recognizing when you're stuck, finding the strength to take the first step, and the incredible growth and happiness that waits on the other side of your biggest challenges. Key Takeaways: Your biggest pain point doesn't have to be a roadblock; it can be the catalyst you need to make a necessary change. People-pleasing and self-sacrificing can lead to losing your own identity and accepting treatment you don't deserve. The moment of decision is often sparked by a seemingly small event—"the straw that broke the camel's back." You don't need to have every step figured out to make a change. The first step is the decision itself; the "how" will reveal itself later. Having a support system is crucial, but ultimately, the courage to act must come from within yourself. Taking a "step back" (like moving back home) can be a strategic move to propel yourself two steps forward into a better future. True growth often requires you to let go of a "good" situation to make space for a "great" one. The negative weight of a bad situation is immense, and the feeling of freedom after leaving it is immeasurable. Questions Answered in This Episode: How can your biggest challenge become the fuel for your greatest growth? What are the warning signs of a controlling relationship or a situation that's draining your identity? How do you find the courage to leave a situation when you feel stuck and don't have all the answers? What does the "straw that broke the camel's back" feel like in a real-life scenario? How important is a support system when making a major life change? How do you deal with the fear and uncertainty of the future after making a brave decision? How can stepping back in life temporarily help you move forward in the long run? What does true personal growth and transformation look like after overcoming a major challenge? On this episode of BMU, the guys explore the interconnectionsbetween our identities within and investments in community and our relationships with our friends. In an expansion of their TEDx Conversation, “Communal Change from the Inside Out,” they identify March 2020 as an inflection point for our understanding of how to be together and be present for and with each other. The conversation emphasizes our collective need to commit to the maintenance of our intimate relationships through good practice with people we aren't close to. They also highlight the hard work of rejecting false peace and fleeting convenience in favor of lasting peace through honesty. “They Asked an A.I. Chatbot Questions. The Answers Sent Them Spiraling.” BMU TEDx from October 2024: “Communal Change from the Inside Out”

Episode 1: Why I'm Stepping Back to Focus on My HealthOriginally aired on YouTube [June 3, 2025]. Audio version includes full conversation. After 20+ years in medicine and three years into building my business, I'm stepping back from teaching to focus on my own health using the same Eastern medicine principles I teach others.I'm Dr. Barbara de la Torre - Board-Certified Family Medicine physician, Medical Acupuncturist, and Qigong Master. I help healthcare professionals, organizations, and motivated individuals bridge Eastern and Western medicine, but like many of you, I'm better at helping others than helping myself.I'm returning to daily qigong, Korean Hand Therapy, and lifestyle practices that I know work because I've used them before. I'm documenting this process not to sell you anything, but to show what it really looks like when a physician practices what she preaches.

Bernard Agrest: When Stepping Back Becomes Stepping Away—A Leadership Failure Story Read the full Show Notes and search through the world's largest audio library on Agile and Scrum directly on the Scrum Master Toolbox Podcast website: http://bit.ly/SMTP_ShowNotes. Bernard shares a powerful story about a critical research project where his instinct to step back and empower his team ultimately led to project failure and personal burnout. When Bernard realized his team wasn't ready for the work ahead, he made the mistake of taking everything on himself rather than building proper feedback loops and ensuring true understanding. Working overtime and feeling guilty about not supporting his team properly, Bernard learned that empowerment isn't about stepping back—it's about creating space to work together. His key insight reveals that it's through doing the work that we discover what work actually needs to be done, and that having people say they "get" the plan doesn't mean they truly understand it. Self-reflection Question: How do you distinguish between genuine team empowerment and abandonment when stepping back from direct involvement in projects? EyeOnChina: Japan is stepping back from NATO, not Indo-Pacific ties—China is watching the cracks closely

China has long criticised the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation, or NATO, for drawing Indo-Pacific countries—Japan, South Korea, Australia, and New Zealand—into its orbit. From Beijing's perspective, this marks a troubling effort to export Western military influence to Asia and to contain China's rise. Among Chinese observers, the prospect of Japan aligning more closely with NATO has sparked particular concern. A commentary published on Baidu Baijiahao pointed to NATO's evolution from a regional defence bloc into what is now seen as an overstretched force projecting power far beyond the North Atlantic. Japan's increasing proximity to NATO and its willingness to speak on China's internal affairs are cast as foreign interference with potentially destabilising consequences. On the Chinese microblogging site, Weibo, a post framed Japan's engagement with NATO as part of an inflated narrative of China's threat.----more----Read full article here: https://theprint.in/opinion/eye-on-china/japan-nato-not-indo-pacific-ties-china-us/2669010/

Welcome back to our special series on work and motherhood. Here's something we don't talk about enough: the vast majority of ambitious, educated women will pause or shift their careers for a season while raising children, and not because they're giving up, but because they're playing the long game. In fact, 1 in 3 women will fully pause; 1 in 2 will downshift; and 90% will eventually return to the workforce. So these old labels of working and stay at home mum just don't fit anymore. The reality is far more fluid than that. And there's a new wave of mothers who are choosing intentional pauses, not permanent exits. Today's guest is an absolute expert in this area. Neha Ruch the founder of Mother Untitled, a platform that's helping to rewrite the narrative around ambition and motherhood. In this conversation, we explore how pausing your career can actually be a power move, a time to deepen, grow, and figure out what's next for you. A time to develop new skills and become even more aligned. So if you've ever questioned your choices, your ambition, or your timeline, then this is the episode for you.
