Listeners of RECO12 that love the show mention:The RECO12 podcast is an invaluable resource for anyone on a journey of healing and recovery. As an S-Anon, I find great pleasure in hearing the different perspectives shared by others who are walking a similar path. The podcast offers a variety of guests, addictions, fellowships, faiths, and backgrounds, providing a wealth of points of view that keep me engaged and enlightened. Justin, the host, does an excellent job interviewing different addicts and allowing them to share their recovery journeys, which has been incredibly beneficial for my own understanding of addiction. This podcast truly helps me navigate the challenges I face in my life.
One of the best aspects of The RECO12 podcast is the variety of guests that Justin invites to share their stories. From alcohol addiction to sex addiction to drug addiction and everything in between, each guest offers unique insight into their own struggles and triumphs. Hearing these personal experiences has helped me gain greater insight into my own addictive behaviors and has provided me with new perspectives on recovery tools and methods. The diversity in topics covered ensures that there is something for everyone seeking recovery.
Another aspect I appreciate about this podcast is the genuine vulnerability displayed by both the guests and Justin himself. Everyone involved shares their stories honestly and authentically, which creates a sense of connection and reminds us that we are all human with our own struggles to overcome. This vulnerability fosters an environment where listeners can feel connected to something bigger than themselves and find hope in hearing others' stories of transformation through living the 12 steps of Alcoholics Anonymous.
While it's hard to find any negative aspects about The RECO12 podcast, one critique would be the occasional technical difficulties that arise during episodes. However, Justin's humility shines through when he openly admits any mistakes or mess-ups on his part. This display of genuine humility is greatly appreciated as it shows his commitment to delivering high-quality content despite any unforeseen obstacles.
In conclusion, The RECO12 podcast is an incredibly valuable resource for individuals on a journey of healing and recovery. Justin's interviews bring honesty, insight, and hope as he invites guests to share their personal experiences. The variety of perspectives and recovery tools shared by those with years of healthy sobriety offers immense support and guidance in one's own journey. Regardless of the type of addiction, this podcast provides insight, perspective, and tools to help listeners move towards freedom and recovery. I am grateful for the opportunity to hear such genuinely vulnerable stories and would highly recommend this podcast to anyone seeking hope in their own recovery or wanting to support others in theirs.
Jacqueline S came in through a different recovery program (Al-Anon), couldn't leave because she felt compelled to return day after day, and slowly her life has been transformed one day at a time. Her 1st exposure to a 12 step program was on Saturday, May 18th. It was different but Jacqueline was hooked, hooked on what she didn't know at the time, but hooked none the less. Jacqueline knew she wanted more of 'IT'... She has now attended more than 1000 meetings since that day, and has finally stopped counting. Come and join as Jacqueline shares her experience, strength, and hope about the phrase, "Cunning, Baffling, and Powerful". ASHER G is a spiritual entrepreneur, human connection coach, and Rabbi in Southern California. His story began at home as a young child where all seemed well from the outside. As the youngest by nine years, he felt a horrible sense of abandonment. His loneliness was compounded by his father's prominence as a rabbi and community leader where the pressure to appear as role models was insufferable. This resulted in a childhood eating disorder and drug use by age 14. Asher was 33 when he lost his multi-million-dollar business, with the resulting bankruptcy destroying what little self-worth he had as a provider to his family – he had hit rock bottom. Asher found his road to recovery through the rooms of Alcoholics Anonymous, where despite the circle of anonymous faces, it was truly the first time in his life he felt the power of shared human connection through service to self and others. The experience marked the debut of an odyssey of self-discovery, trading ego for vulnerability, and leaving the pursuit of pleasure for the pursuit of meaning. Asher decidedly dedicated the rest of his career to helping others help themselves “restore wholeness” in their lives. Armed with a renewed sense of self, profound life experience, and entrepreneurial passion, Asher founded Transcend in 2008, building an internationally recognized recovery community. Now sober seventeen years and counting, Asher has counseled hundreds of men and women and built a renowned reputation where he is recognized by his three hallmark pillars of recovery; Accountability, Community, and Unconditional Love. As the result of the 12 Steps-being protected by god, at home with self, and connected to a community, Andy has moved from a taker to a giver- from a greedy soul towards having a servants heart. The journey has been generous- the job god has Andy doing is to engage another alcoholic in spiritual activity so he can live a useful life today. Anna B used to be sneaky but now I'm just crafty. I'm obsessed with the number 5, the color purple, & strict routines. I have much gratitude for regrigeration, indoor plumbing, & modern medicine. Trivia podcasts, jigsaw puzzles, Bananagrams, & library books are my favorite distractions. Dislikes include all things politics, computers, tags on clothing, & places with no shade. For laughs I play with other people's infants and toddlers. I live in Amherst, MA. Today, Anna B spoke to us, hilariously, about the importance of finding humor in recovery and in most situations. She had us laughing many times in her share. To find a link to her book, please see the resources from this meeting section below.Reco12 is an open-to-all addictions and afflictions organization, dedicated to exploring the common threads of addiction, sharing tools, and offering hope from those walking a similar path. Debi's 1st meeting was in 1981. Her 1st sober date was in 1987. Her current and permanent sober date is 1/31/94. After a long history of trouble at home, school, and the law, from a very young age, including rehab, detox, jail, DUI, psych ward, diagnoses, medication, etc. Debi finally surrendered. She was dry 3.5 years for the 2nd time and ready to suicide. She reached out for help with more humility and desperation than she'd ever before been able to muster and allowed a recovered member to take her through the Big Book & the Steps. Debi finally had the vital spiritual experience the book talks about, did all of her 9th step amends in a meaningful way and now lives in Steps 10-12. David L's journey with alcohol began at the age of 2, when his mom gave him his first drink in a baby bottle to keep him quiet. David grew up in a dysfunctional family, with both of his parents being alcoholics. Despite their struggles, David didn't follow the same path permanently.Eventually, He hit rock bottom. He was exhausted from being a drunk and using drugs. That's when he decided to go to treatment, and hasn't looked back since.Today, David's life is dedicated to helping others. He sponsors men in recovery and stays deeply involved in the H&I (Hospitals and Institutions) community in Phoenix. One of his favorite commitments is bringing meetings to jails—it's a service that fills him with purpose and hope.Reco12 is dedicated to exploring the common threads of addiction, sharing tools, and offering hope from those walking a similar path. Here is a bit about Chris A in his own words: I was born to an unwed Mother in the 1950's who married an alcoholic and good time charlie. I grew up poor in a cotton mill town in N.C. I was beaten, sexually abused, abandoned emotionally on the way to becoming the ultimate rebel of society. I found that using sex, alcohol and other mind altering substance to numb out the pain and trauma I was enduring. Life was a party for me as I partied my way further down the road of addiction, self loathing and destruction. I became a workaholic to not only keep my lifestyle going but also as a distraction. Staying focused making money was time I did not have to face my fears and trauma etc. I finally crashed and burned and walked away from my well paying job to become homeless, living on the streets. I began my bumpy recovery 25 years ago and now have 9 years without a drink of alcohol or other mind altering drug. I'm currently retired, celebrating 21 years of marriage and living in Bountiful, Utah.Reco12 Afro-Euro Timezone is a Reco12 Resource in and for the Afro-Euro time zone hosted by Karen A. Logan T. has over 6 years clean and sober in Crystal Meth Anonymous and Alcoholics Anonymous. He has over 3 years sober in Sexaholics Anonymous and 9 months sober in Anorexics and Bulimics Anonymous. After 4 unsuccessful interventions, Logan finally entered recovery in 2018 because his chemical and process addictions had progressed to the point of unbearable mental and physical torture. His denial of his eating disorder was finally broken after he was 5 years into recovery when it was revealed to him in ABA that his eating disorder was his primary addiction. He wasn't about to give up his best drug first, instead he gave up his best drug last and finally found freedom. Today he speaks on how he came to ABA for the vanity and remained for the sanity.Reco12 is dedicated to exploring the common threads of addiction, sharing tools, and offering hope from those walking a similar path. Today we had a special pop-up Reco12 meeting with Jed F as our speaker. He shared great experience, strength, and hope. A little about Jed: Jed was sent to recovery by his loving God through his wife's addiction and is grateful about it. He learned that he is not perfect, will never be perfect and that's ok. His main focus is emotional sobriety and his connection to his higher power. And his topic today was entitled Does God Hate Me or Love Me?Reco12 is dedicated to exploring the common threads of addiction, sharing tools, and offering hope from those walking a similar path. Melissa T came into the rooms of Al-anon over 15 years ago to learn how to fix all the dysfunctional, maddening people in her life. Fortunately, when that didn't work, she stuck around to “fix” herself. She is a member of The Big Book Sponsorship group and sponsors fellows in Coda, Al-anon and SLAA. She credits her recovery journey for the beautiful life she has today, and considers it a privilege to share her experience, strength and hope with others. Today Melissa speaks to us on the topic of "Addiction is a Family Disease".Reco12 is all about exploring the common threads of addiction and sharing tools and hope from those on a similar path. We gather from diverse backgrounds, faiths, and places to learn and support one another. Our speakers are members of various fellowships, addictions, and afflictions, thus showing the common threads of recovery, no matter our addiction or affliction. Support Reco12's 12th Step Mission! Tomás K has been a member of Internet and Technology Addicts Anonymous for 8 years and has been continuously sober from all of his compulsive internet and technology behaviors (including social media, streaming, video games, porn, and more) for over 5 years. Despite being high-functioning in many areas of his life, his increasingly frequent and painful bottoms with technology were driving a suicidal despair which seemed to offer no way out. After initially facing immense confusion and grief in early recovery around what a changed relationship with technology might look like, his experience discovering sobriety and working the Steps in ITAA has led him to a life of connection, fulfillment, and peace that exceeds anything he ever found in the screen.
