Collaborative writing is fairly rare in the world of publishing – and writing while working alongside each other in a bookshop cafe is even rarer! But that was exactly how friends and workmates Clayton Zane Comber and Conor McCammon went about co-authoring their new junior fiction illustrated adventure, The Marvellous Submarine. This is one of the sermons preached "on an evening when the regular hearers left their seats to be occupied by strangers." Imagine asking some five thousand people to vacate their places, only to see another five thousand pressing in to hear the good news of Jesus Christ! On such an occasion, Spurgeon gives himself especially to explaining, demonstrating, reasoning, pleading, and persuading that sinners will turn to Christ Jesus. Thus he here holds up our Lord Jesus as the "marvellous magnet," zeroing in on his crucifixion as that reality, that sight, by which he draws men to himself. So he considers first the attractive force which lies in the crucified Saviour himself. Then he asks how this force is exercised, considering the means and the power by which the Holy Spirit draws sinners to Christ Jesus. Finally, he asks what the implications of all this must be for those who are hearing him, pressing home the claims of Christ upon every soul. As you read it you will find that it is not an unusually short sermon, nor is it crassly simplistic. It is lively and it is direct, and the preacher labours to keep every fixed upon the Redeemer. In this, it is an example of truly evangelistic preaching, without bells or whistles, and with no special measures other than this: that Christ is resolutely at the centre and in the forefront throughout.

This Merdeka and Malaysia Day season, we're reminded that our country's story isn't just about people and places, it's also about our connection to nature. We speak to a family who embodies that spirit - wildlife photographer Anuar McAfee (Director, International Centre, Universiti Sultan Zainal Abidin and Research Fellow, East Coast Environmental Research Institute), and his sons Muhammad Cornelius McAfee (Tour Guide, Ketengah), and Aidan McAfee (Student, Politeknik Banting) - who have spent countless hours exploring Terengganu's forests, rivers, and skies. We discuss their love of the outdoors, the birds and wildlife of Terengganu, and why Kenyir Lake and other nature spots around Terengganu are natural gems worth discovering.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

A conversation about imagination as essential aliveness—and how treating life as purely literal diminishes our humanity. A great human power lies in choosing which story we live from, recognising that even dead ends become part of a larger narrative of redemption. What would change if we approached each day wondering along which secret aqueduct new life might be flowing toward us? This week's conversation is hosted, as always, by Lizzie Winn and Justin Wise of Thirdspace. Episode Overview 00:00 Embracing Life's Multitudes 02:56 Gathering in Community 05:50 Machado's Poem Last Night as I Was Sleeping 08:58 Imagining New Possibilities 11:59 Turning Towards Joy and Failure 14:53 The Imaginative Act of Being Human 17:47 Finding Connection in Shared Experiences 20:50 The Invitation to Storytelling 23:45 Practicing Presence and Openness Here's our source for this week: Last night, as I was sleeping       Last night, as I was sleeping, I dreamt -- marvellous error!— that a spring was breaking out in my heart. I said: Along which secret aqueduct, Oh water, are you coming to me, water of a new life that I have never drunk?      Last night, as I was sleeping, I dreamt -- marvellous error!— that I had a beehive here inside my heart. And the golden bees were making white combs and sweet honey from my old failures.      Last night, as I was sleeping, I dreamt -- marvellous error!— that a fiery sun was giving light inside my heart. It was fiery because I felt warmth as from a hearth, and sun because it gave light and brought tears to my eyes.      Last night, as I slept, I dreamt -- marvellous error!— that it was God I had here inside my heart. By analysing a range of evidence, from the tragic use of the deus ex machina to Hellenistic epigrams to ancient mechanical literature, it expands the existing vocabulary of visual modes of ancient epiphany. As it's also Mother's Day in the Western calendar, Ajahn Dhammasiha speaks about the birth of the Bodhisatta, and the marvellous qualities of the Bodhisatta and his mother. Strictly speaking, we shouldn't refer to him as the 'Buddha' at his birth, but rather as the 'Bodhisatta', as he wasn't enlightened yet. However, the little baby could walk 7 steps and announce that it's his last birth immediately after delivery. You can read how the Buddha himself described the events surrounding his birth in: Majjhima Nikāya / Middle Length Discourses, #123 'Acchariya-Abbhuta-Sutta' / 'Wonderful and Marvellous'.Dhammagiri WebsiteOur Spotify PlaylistsNewsletterDhammagiri Youtube ChannelPics#buddha #babybuddha #vesak #dhammatalk #buddhism

In all the annals of Fairyland nothing is more wonderful—and the annals are found in many hundreds of volumes—than that chapter which tells of the reign of the true fairy King Oberon and his beautiful wife Titania, who is sometimes called Queen Mab. Marvellous are the doings of Oberon's little subjects in every land—good fairies and bad fairies, dwarfs, elves and sprites, brownies, pixies and gnomes, pucks, trolls and kobolds and Robin Goodfellow—and marvellous are the tales which have been told of them by travellers in the fairy realms.Advertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy

Celticunderground:The Celtic Football Fan Podcast

There are piviotal occassions in your Celtic supporting life when you realise everything has changed. For me, one of those was the night we went out on pens to Valencia. I went to work the next day and proudly claimed - we'll reach a European final.Tonight is one of those moments. We have an elite manager who has, through tactics and motivation, convinved our players they belong at this level. There is now no turning back. No more signing players for games against Dundee Utd & Motherwell. We are on the cusp of becoming a standard last 16 UCL team. It's time for the Michael, Chris and Dermot to give the manager what he needs, both personally and with the squad to take that final step. With all that in mind, Andrew H and Harry B discuss their pride, the fine margins on show tonight and agree on how proud we are of Brendan and the bhoys.Enjoy…Apple podcastsSpotifyAmazonPlayer.fmSpreakerAudioboomYoutubeThe Celtic Underground Substack is a reader-supported publication. Titres interprétés au grand studio :- Brothers and Sisters Live RFI voir le clip - Cold Cold World, extrait du Cd voir le clip - That is You Live RFI.Line up : Michelle David (Chant), Onno Smit (Guitare basse), Paul Willemsen (Guitare basse), Bas Bouma (Batterie), Bart van der List (Trompette), Paul van de Calseijde (Sax tenor), Claus Tofft (Congas) +Claire Simon (Traductrice).Son : Benoît Letirant, Mathias Taylor.► Album Brothers & Sisters (Record Kicks 2024).Web - facebook - Instagram.
