Finding the Right Support: How to Get Help After Betrayal and Addiction In this episode of the Human Intimacy Podcast, Dr. Kevin Skinner and MaryAnn Michaelis discuss the crucial topic of seeking help after experiencing sexual betrayal, addiction, or trauma. They explore the different types of support available—family, friends, support groups, sponsors, therapy, and coaching—highlighting the importance of finding the right kind of help for each individual's healing journey. Melissa T came into the rooms of Al-anon over 15 years ago to learn how to fix all the dysfunctional, maddening people in her life. Fortunately, when that didn't work, she stuck around to “fix” herself. She is a member of The Big Book Sponsorship group and sponsors fellows in Coda, Al-anon and SLAA. She credits her recovery journey for the beautiful life she has today, and considers it a privilege to share her experience, strength and hope with others. Today Melissa speaks to us on the topic of "Addiction is a Family Disease".Reco12 is all about exploring the common threads of addiction and sharing tools and hope from those on a similar path. Theatre critic Mark Shenton discovered his sexuality via a porn mag in Soho aged 16, that quickly turned into an addiction alongside sex addiction which escalated to him hiring porn stars by the hour. Now 12 years into his recovery, Mark found a way out of a living hell that ended in a deep, dark depression and a stark feeling of hopelessness. Mark Shenton is a very well known theatre critic but today he shows us his deeply personal and human side in, perhaps, my most raw and astoundingly honest interview yet. I cannot thank you enough for being so deeply candid to help people. Legend ❤️ More on Mark - Mark Shenton has been a full-blown theatre addict since the age of 14. He later found a way to monetise it — and get free tickets as well — by becoming a full-time professional theatre critic and commentator. Born and raised in South Africa, he emigrated with his parents to England when he was 16, and attended Cambridge University where he read law (but spent most of his time reviewing and producing student theatre). He later became editor of arts and entertainment at the Press Association and spent a year working in the offices of producer Cameron Mackintosh. In 2002 he went freelance and became a full-time writer, separately (and sometimes simultaneously) acting as theatre critic for WhatsOnStage, The Stage (where he was also an associate editor), the Sunday Express and londontheatre.co.uk for the next two decades. He also regularly broadcast on BBC London (radio and TV), as well as contributing to other outlets including LBC, Times Radio and Talk Radio. In 2022 he moved to West Sussex with his husband, and now writes a regular theatre newsletter which is published on his own website, ShentonStage.com. In this episode, Elle and Vee chat with Lola Jean (@lolajeandotcom) about her work as a sex educator. (01:24) Deze week kondigde o.a.

Karen guides sponsees through the Big Book of All Addictions, especially in areas of - CoDA, Al-Anon, SLAA, etc. She specializes in carrying the message of AA to Orthodox Jewish women worldwide who otherwise would not have access to recovery. My name is Richelle from New Jersey. I found 12 step rooms in the year 1999 and got clean on January 18, 2000. I was acting out in love addiction and did not even know it. I found Nikki M and the spiritual gangsters Big Book in October 2020. Richelle speaks on the hopeless state of an untreated Love Addict. She shares on what a love addict is and how it is defined. One of my favorite people, Britt Frank, returns to the podcast this week! We are exploring a topic suggested by a listener - obsessive love and love addiction. When I received this suggestion, I knew Britt was the perfect person to help me address things like what is obsessive love versus healthy love. Britt Frank, MSW, LSCSW, SEP is a trauma therapist, teacher, and speaker who specializes in the "Science of Stuck." She works to empower people to understand the inner mechanisms of their brains and bodies. When we know how things work, the capacity for CHOICE is restored and life can and does change. In this episode you'll hear: 5:03 Britt starts out by defining “love addiction” and then explains the difference between love addiction and someone who has an anxious attachment style 14:47 What is actually happening when someone feels like they have obsessive love 17:01 We explore a list by SLAA about twelve characteristics of love and sex addiction 23:02 “Awareness without shame creates change.” 26:46 How to heal from love addiction: the first step is detox and withdrawal 37:22 “The solution to love addiction is self-parenting.” Learn more about your ad choices. Jay M from Bali, Indonesia has been walking on his path through recovery for the last 25 years. He had a transformative spiritual experience that brought him to the awareness of God at an early age, but then fell into the abyss of addiction, in a myriad of forms for decades. When he finally got clean and sober and found his way into the rooms of AA, NA, SLAA and CODA, he began to grow spiritually, but it wasn't until he hit his third rock bottom and lost everything that he loved, that he was surrendered enough to dedicate his life to this journey of recovery. He was fortunate that God put David G from Oklahoma in his life, right at that moment, to show him the Big Book of Alcoholics Anonymous in a way that he never could have imagined. It was only then that the true promises and miracles of recovery began to manifest and be revealed in his life. He speaks on his slow walk with God and journey into recovery.Reco12 is an organization with the mission of learning and sharing the similarities of addiction of all kinds and gaining and sharing tools and hope from others who are walking a similar path. Melissa came into the rooms of Alanon 15 years ago to learn how to fix all the dysfunctional, maddening people in her life. Fortunately, when that didn't work, she stuck around to “fix” herself. She is a member of The Big Book Sponsorship group and sponsors fellows in Coda, Alanon and SLAA. She credits her recovery journey for the beautiful life she has today, and considers it a privilege to share her experience, strength and hope with others. In this meeting, Melissa speaks about how she came to realize that she was the problem... and if so... that she could also be the solution.Reco12 is an organization with the mission of learning and sharing the similarities of addiction of all kinds and gaining and sharing tools and hope from others who are walking a similar path. Evarleigh S. found her way into the virtual rooms of recovery April 2022, her first experience was through Adult Children of Alcoholics & Dysfunctional Families. Seeking help for those around her that had done harm to her -pointing the finger at all others. Little did Evarleigh know that this one decision; to start her on a journey by connecting with a fellow, round the globe in Sweden, was just the divine intervention needed. Evarleigh realized she needed more - of what she didn't exactly know at the time, just more. She was eventually catapulted into the hands of a helping Higher Power from her place in what she calls Liarland.Karen A and Evarleigh S walk through this Reco12 Afro-Euro Speaker Meeting and share their experience, strength, and hope. Rachel W is a grateful member of SLAA and Al-Anon. She is celebrating 5 years of sobriety in SLAA this month and 14 years in Al-Anon next month, thanks to sponsorship, meetings and the steps. God's will for her is to grow spiritually and to be happy, joyous and free. In service of this, she practices Authentic Relating and overcomes herself daily using 2-way prayer and meditation. Rachel especially enjoys service in SLAA on the fellowship-wide level as a delegate to the ABM and as a sponsor. She is speaking to us today on embracing the mystery and on her relationship with Power. Amanda B came into the rooms of SLAA at the end of June 2022 but quickly found her way to Big Book Sponsorship and jumped straight into the steps with her sponsor. She has found the solution to all her problems by following the instructions that are offered in the Big Book of Alcoholics Anonymous. Amanda B loves hearing the stories of others in recovery and finds that she can relate to people in every 12 step recovery room. She finds the similarities and knows she's not alone. You can find Amanda at the Big Book Audio Club meeting (like a book club but for speaker shares) on Thursdays at 2pm weekly thru July 2023 and then 1st and 3rd Thursdays starting in August 2023! Josephine came into the rooms early 2020 more than 3 years ago after countless failed attempts to stop drinking. Little did Josephine know that putting down the drink was the start of what has been, and is the hardest, AND most rewarding part of her life so far. Josephine started drinking at 11 years old and is a blackout addict by her own words. She has been in and out of the rooms of AA, SLAA, CoDA, CA, DA, Greysheet, and OA. Only when Josephine wanted to die in recovery, feeling desperate and insane, did things change. Only then, she describes, that she found the hand of God as she understands God to be. Today's episode, we will be discussing growing up in Tulsa, college life and its affects, SLAA on the Hill
Leila is gratefully thriving and prospering in all of her fellowships. It is through rigorously working the 12 steps that she has found peace, serenity and joy in her life today. The 12 steps have given Leila the community, solution and recipe for living that she never knew she always needed. She has started two SLAA meetings which combined have over 300 joining participants every week. She is passionate about being of service and works this program as seriously as she worked her addiction(s). She rocks this episode on the Essentials of Recovery - Honesty, Open-mindedness, and Willingness. This is one that you will want to share with your sponsees and other fellows who are struggling. Reco12 is an organization with the mission of learning and sharing the similarities of addiction of all kinds and the similarities of recovery from all afflictions and addictions, and gaining and sharing tools and hope from others who are trudging this road. Lenette came to SLAA back in 2014. She had gone thru a divorce and her addiction really surfaced shortly after. How her sex and love addiction shows up is that she feels she must be validated and chosen. She ripped thru peoples' lives and hurt many. Only thinking of herself. Lenette's codependency shows up when in a relationship. This looks like her micromanaging and pretty much giving up her life for her partner. Lenette started her steps for the first time in 2014 with a sponsor when she got through step 2 and left, because she felt anger about and couldn't figure out a higher power and couldn't believe that God or something bigger than her actually loved her. Because if it did, why was she an addict and suffering? After several starts and stops, she finally got a Big Book sponsor and worked through all of the steps and started sponsoring others. As one of the results, she has found that she is loved and lovable. Even if she is not in a relationship. Lenette now loves the 12 steps and finds that when she is taking a sponsee through them, it still moves her to tears. She really loves living Step 10 as it can mean cleaning the slate each night and starting anew the next day.Reco12 appreciates your help in keeping us working our 12th Step with these great resources and services for the addict and loved ones.
