Sharon Butler-Obazee, an adoptee, attended Cal State Hayward. She worked in human services and tenured with the insurance industry as a medical sales rep. After retirement, she became certified under the International Coaching Federation after attending Professional Christian Coaching before starting her coaching practice. Her handle on social media was @adoptionclarity, where she encouraged an adoptee-centric philosophy. She became a Board Member of the Post Adoption Center for Education and Resources. She acquired Strengths-Based Coaching certification, where she encouraged families to support their strengths and encourage their children to use their strengths as well. As an adoptee, she had a hard time investigating her heritage because she felt she did not deserve to know her background out of loyalty to adoptive parents. After several years of therapy and adoptee support groups, she was able to break through her thinking to use Ancestry to complete her search. She received a response in 48 hours and had a chance to meet her bio-dad before he passed. She has added Butler to her name in honor of her heritage.Website: https://giftfamilyservices.com/Music by Corey Quinn

Zoog is a platform that aims to connect generations through technology. The idea for Zoog was born during the COVID-19 pandemic when the founders realized the difficulty grandparents and parents faced in communicating with their children and grandchildren over video. They wanted to create a way for them to engage with kids in a similar way to offline activities such as reading books, singing songs, and making them laugh, but in an immersive and fun way that could be done remotely.Zoog is an innovative platform that leverages technology to bridge the gap between generations. By providing a simple and immersive way for grandparents to connect with their grandchildren through storytelling and interactive videos, Zoog enhances the bond between generations and creates lasting memories. It is a testament to the power of technology in bringing people together, even when physical distance separates them.Zoog - Connecting generations through technologyThe concept behind Zoog is simple. Users can choose children's content, such as Winnie the Pooh, and use the app to record themselves reading the story. As they read, the app adds animations, face filters, background animations, sound effects, and music to create an engaging and interactive video. This video can then be shared with grandchildren, who can view it on any device at any time. They can react to the video with emojis and even request the next content they want their grandparents to read. The primary users of Zoog are grandparents who use the platform to connect with their grandkids, especially if they don't live in the same house. The platform is designed to be user-friendly for older adults, and the creators actively involve grandparents in the product development process to ensure it meets their needs and preferences. Many grandparents today are technologically savvy, having used iPhones and computers for years, making Zoog's intuitive interface and simplicity appealing to them. How to use ZoogTo use Zoog, users can download the app for free from the iOS App Store. The app offers some free content for users to try, but to access the full library, a subscription called Zoog+ is required. Creating a video is straightforward, and grandparents can share it with their grandchildren as a link, similar to sending a text message. The child does not need to have the app installed to view the video, making it convenient for both parties. The child can watch the video at their convenience. The delivery of media through Zoog is done via text message links. When a grandparent shares a video, the link leads the recipient to a webpage where they can view the video and interact with it. The child can leave emojis and request specific content for future videos. The company has partnered with various content creators, such as DreamWorks, to offer a wide range of children's content, including popular characters like Gabby from Gabby's Dollhouse and soon-to-be-released Paw Patrol content. In terms of pricing, the Zoog+ monthly subscription is available for $9.99. However, they also provide cheaper plans for those who opt for annual or quarterly subscriptions. This pricing structure allows users to choose the plan that best suits their needs and budget. Conclusion: A simple way to read across the worldThe Zoog app is currently available for iOS devices, with an Android option coming soon. This means that iPhone and iPad users can easily download the app from the iOS App Store and start using it to connect with their loved ones. The app is called Zoog: Magical Storytime and can be found in the App Store. In conclusion, the Zoog app is a groundbreaking platform that enables grandparents and grandchildren to connect through storytelling and interactive videos. When life throws a curveball, impacting your wife's health, how does one navigate the storm during a time when doctors didn't know how to help? Grab your headphones and prepare to dive deep into one of my most vulnerable and personal conversations on this podcasting journey. Our next guest, Kip Stallcop, is the branch manager at Bankers Life based in Phoenix, Arizona. We both hope that our conversation today will inspire a dad, a mom, or anyone that you're not alone. In 2020, we as a society all went through so many challenges. One of those challenges was the controversial aspects of COVID-19 and its vaccine. Some chose to get it, and some thought it was too risky. In today's episode, you will hear firsthand accounts of how my wife and Kip's wife were the unlucky ones to have severe adverse reactions post-vaccination that still affect them today. This is how I met Kip. We share that meeting each other was a godsend, not only for us as dads but mainly for our wives, as they could share the emotional toll of their symptoms and navigate the health mystery together. Watching our once extremely active, healthy wives suffer with no answers for the past two and half years still brings frustration, confusion, and anger. I hope that our family's health adversity gives others a voice who might still be struggling with the same thing.Throughout this episode, we also delve into the lighter aspects of life, exploring parenting and the magic of unexpected connections. We share personal stories, reflecting on our childhood memories and experiences that shaped our character. There's laughter, sadness and stories that remind us of the power of human connection- it's a conversation you don't want to miss. The inspiration for this episode came because Adam has on our Traeger 3 racks of ribs and started thinking about every Sunday and how we have a special lunch on this day each week. We get out of church, then usually eat around 3 pm and the kids just know that this is our time to be together and have something special for lunch. Not only does having these type of meals bring our own family together, but it's a great way to invite other families to dine together with us and strengthen relationships. The Minnesota Indian Family Preservation Act was the subject of a state senate hearing Tuesday morning — and testimony was emotional. People recounted how forced removal by private and public child welfare agencies tore apart their families. Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe Chairman Faron Jackson Sr. said his two brothers were removed from their home in the 1960s, and not allowed to return until they were 18. His family still feels the effects. “Even today… we kind of feel like strangers when we're together,” he said. The 1978 federal Indian Child Welfare Act aimed to keep native children in native homes. Minnesota's Indian Family Preservation Act, passed in 1985, built on that. But the Supreme Court is currently considering a case challenging the federal law— under the assertion that it violates anti-commandeering principles of the Tenth Amendment. “We want to make sure this is codified in our state legislature,” Assistant Senate Majority Leader, DFL Senator Mary Kunesh told host Cathy Wurzer. “We're concerned that if we don't put in these safeguards… that we wouldn't be able to continue to do the work that we need to do to preserve our native families in Minnesota.” She spoke with Wurzer about how the bill would change Minnesota law.
Slam the Gavel welcomes Sylvia Beachy and Kajal (KK) Emmett to the podcast. Rescue The Fosters is founded by Sylvia Beachy and Kajal Emmett. Sylvia Beachy has 5 years of experience working in the foster system. She has had many roles that include Staff Member, Case Manager, Transporter, Parent Aide, and Behavior Aide. She started out as a staff member at Elks Aidmore group home which is where she met KK. KK was a foster youth at Elks Aidmore! However, KK had aged out of the system with absolutely no place to go! This began the journey of Rescue The Fosters. Their mission is to give the children and youth in Foster Care a voice! They also provide resources to youth aging out of the system to keep them off the streets and out of prisons! Additionally, they also strive to keep FAMILIES TOGETHER! Therefore, they additionally assist families navigating the CPS! Excellent conversation regarding how foster children are in "survival mode" at all times. They have been ripped away from their families and question themselves or if anyone loves them. In Foster Care, the goal is surviving. Sylvia Beachy told her story of how she started out in the system and how workers become desensitized with new influx of children coming into the group home. She also told her story of meeting a young man wearing a homeless sign and she got out of her car and questioned him. He told her he had gotten out of Foster Care with no PAPERWORK. Sylvia helped him get the paperwork he needed to get a job and find his biological mother. Sylvia's message: LISTEN TO THE CHILDREN. Kajal Emmett explained that she was just a little girl roaming the streets as an orphan and how a police officer found her and took her to the proper authorities and he guessed her age by her teeth. Sylvia explained that they still don't know her true age. KK stated to all youth in Foster Care not to be afraid and not to be trapped by fear, that they have rights and to keep track of all paperwork, emails (make copies) and documents.https://youtu.be/qhzuSxirGGMTo reach Sylvia Beachy and Kajal Emmett: RescueTheFosters@proton.me and 770-861-0898Rumble "INSITE" Podcast Thursday 7:30pm ESTSupportshow(https://www.buymeacoffee.com/maryannpetri)dismantlingfamilycourtcorruption.comSupport the showSupportshow(https://www.buymeacoffee.com/maryannpetri)http://www.dismantlingfamilycourtcorruption.com/

This series is sponsored by our friends, Daniel and Mira Stokar. In this episode, we discuss parental alienation. In some way or another, almost all of us struggle with alienation. Who among us doesn't feel too far from someone that we love? The meeting points of religion and family in religious communities can make navigating change in the family unit difficult, sometimes leading to alienation. As we approach Yom Kippur, we spoke to five people who have lived through the stressors that lead to alienation. These guests are people that might be your neighbors, your rabbis, your siblings, or your parents, talking about the cost and challenge of keeping family close, no matter how hard it might be. In this interview, we discuss: — How does parental alienation start, and where might it lead? — What can someone do to avoid or rectify alienation? — What can we learn from those who have struggled with familial alienation? Thank you to each of these guests for sharing their stories with openness, vulnerability, and honesty, and thank you to Eitan Katz for permission to use his song, Ki Karov.
