Co-Host Josh Hatcher (https://mountaintoppodcast.com.hatcher) Most of us are sick and tired of hearing about how 'toxic' or otherwise flawed we are simply for being men, let alone masculine. Josh Hatcher from Manlihood.com is on a mission not to help men 'do better', like the narrative would dictate, but go from good to great as men of virtue. The first step is to recognize that even though toxicity does exist within certain men, virtuous masculinity is a completely different set of traits. We as men are powerful forces for good in the family, society and indeed for shaping our future as a human race. If weak men create hard times, are we headed toward hard times or are we already there? And how can we make a difference individually fighting like hell in that context? So then, how does Josh define 'darkness' to begin with? Are there really two different ways to talk about it? And what's the first big mistake many men make when they decide to stand their ground and fight for freedom and masculinity? What are some ways we as men can figure out what brand of 'darkness' we really need to confront within ourselves, do so, and make the necessary changes to be wiser and more evolved masculine men? How does our past inevitably shape who we are as men...including the darkness that resides within us? How does the steady droning of media and the narratives associated with it distract us, affect our abilities to cut through the crap and remain grounded as virtuous, masculine men? Why are so many otherwise brave men either unable or unwilling do indeed deal with their crap before it deals with them instead? Responsibility is a Heavier Weight than Privilege | Manlihood ManCast: A Podcast for Men

In today's society, the concept of privilege has become a buzzword. We often hear about male privilege and the advantages that come with it. However, I believe there is a bigger picture that we need to consider. Instead of focusing solely on privilege, we should shift our perspective to the heart of the matter and explore how responsibility can make a real difference in someone's life. In this blog post, we will delve deeper into this topic and discuss why responsibility is a heavier weight than privilege. JOIN US FOR AN EVENING WITH MACHINE GUN PREACHER - SAM CHILDERSDECEMBER 16th 2023 at 7PM AT OPEN ARMS CHURCH 1289 EAST MAIN STREET, BRADFORD PA Responsibility Over Privilege: The notion of privilege has taken on different connotations over the years. It can now be associated with the idea of being handed everything on a silver platter. However, as a man, I believe that manhood is not about privilege but about shouldering responsibility. To be a man is to understand that being stronger physically or having a unique way of thinking comes with the responsibility to care for and support those around us. Leadership and Service: One aspect of manhood that aligns with responsibility is leadership. While both men and women can be leaders, for men, it often means taking on the role of leadership in the home. However, it is essential to differentiate true leadership from lordship. True leadership is about serving others and making decisions that benefit those under our care. It is not about demanding obedience or seeking personal privilege but rather guiding and honoring those around us. Doing the Right Thing: Another aspect of responsibility is doing the right thing, even when it may be challenging or require sacrificing personal gain. We must strive for morality and set an example for others by upholding ethical values. As men, it is our responsibility to strive for what is right and to ensure that our actions align with our principles. By doing so, we create a positive influence on those around us. Shifting Perspectives: Earned vs. Deserved: A crucial shift in mindset is moving away from a sense of entitlement and recognizing that we do not inherently deserve anything. Instead, we should focus on earning the things we receive and being grateful for the blessings that come our way. It's about understanding that responsibility brings more fulfillment than privilege ever could. By working hard and earning what we have, we cultivate gratitude and appreciation for life's blessings. Conclusion: Responsibility is a weight that we should willingly carry as men. It surpasses the fleeting nature of privilege and grounds us in our purpose. By embracing responsibility, we not only make a difference in our own lives but also in the lives of those around us. Let us shift our focus from privilege to responsibility and strive to be men who lead through service, do the right thing, and live with gratitude. Together, we can create a better world by recognizing that responsibility is a heavier weight than privilege. Thank you for reading, and I invite you to join the discussion in the Manlihood Man Cave group on Facebook. Share your thoughts on this topic and let's continue the conversation. On this episode of Manly Chunks of Wisdom on the Manlihood ManCast, we'll feature Quotes from Jordan Peterson. Jordan Peterson is a Canadian clinical psychologist, cultural critic, and professor of psychology. Born on June 12, 1962, in Alberta, Canada, he gained widespread recognition for his critiques of political correctness and advocacy for free speech. Peterson rose to international prominence with his opposition to compelled speech legislation in Canada. He is also a prolific author, with his best-selling book "Maps of Meaning" and the widely successful "12 Rules for Life: An Antidote to Chaos." Known for his insightful perspectives on psychology, philosophy, and societal issues, Peterson has become a prominent figure in contemporary intellectual discourse. At Manlihood, we're curating chunks of manly wisdom for you. If you're like a lot of men, you may find yourself short on time for reading long books to look for wisdom that you can apply to your life…. We're offering you the Campbells Soup version… the best quotes and insights to help inspire you to be an even better man.  “I don't think that you have any insight whatsoever into your capacity for good until you have some well-developed insight into your capacity for evil.” ― Jordan B. Peterson “To stand up straight with your shoulders back is to accept the terrible responsibility of life, with eyes wide open. It means deciding to voluntarily transform the chaos of potential into the realities of habitable order. It means adopting the burden of self-conscious vulnerability, and accepting the end of the unconscious paradise of childhood, where finitude and mortality are only dimly comprehended. It means willingly undertaking the sacrifices necessary to generate a productive and meaningful reality (it means acting to please God, in the ancient language).” ― Jordan B. Peterson, 12 Rules for Life: An Antidote to Chaos “When you have something to say, silence is a lie.” ― Jordan B. Peterson, 12 Rules for Life: An Antidote to Chaos “You're going to pay a price for every bloody thing you do and everything you don't do. You don't get to choose to not pay a price. You get to choose which poison you're going to take. That's it.” ― Jordan B. Peterson “You can only find out what you actually believe (rather than what you think you believe) by watching how you act. You simply don't know what you believe, before that. You are too complex to understand yourself.” ― Jordan B. Peterson, 12 Rules for Life: An Antidote to Chaos “If you can't understand why someone is doing something, look at the consequences of their actions, whatever they might be, and then infer the motivations from their consequences. For example if someone is making everyone around them miserable and you'd like to know why, their motive may simply be to make everyone around them miserable including themselves.” ― Jordan B. Let's introduce you to Tate Yohe, the owner/barber of Neibert's Barbershop in Mechanicsburg, PA.Brief Bio Introduction:Tate Yohe's journey as a barber is more than just about cutting hair; it's about building connections and preserving stories. He owns and operates Neibert's Barbershop in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania, where he's created something truly special.Drawing from his 14 years of experience in emergency services, Tate initially hung his patch and badge on the wall as a tribute to his past. This simple act led to the creation of a unique "patch wall."Former colleagues from his time in emergency services and military clients started coming in for haircuts and adding their patches to the wall. What emerged was a tapestry of stories—stories from the front lines, deployments, moments of triumph, and even moments of loss.Tate recognized the power of these stories and the need to share them with a broader audience. This Episode is Brought To you by HAINES KNIVESFind your new favorite knife at HainesKnives.com/mancast or follow on social media @birdforge  Testicular Fortitude means having deep seated masculine courage and strength. Balls. Guts. Manlihood.  Testicular Fortitude on the Manlihood ManCast is where we take a look at men who have beat the odds, men whose courage has left a lasting legacy. Patton was born into a wealthy family in San Gabriel, California in 1885. As a child, he had difficulty with spelling and reading, which later led historians to speculate that he suffered from dyslexia. Despite his struggles, Patton became an avid reader and developed a passion for military history. He attended the Virginia Military Institute and then transferred to the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, where he repeated his freshman year due to poor grades. However, Patton improved his academic performance and graduated in June 1909, becoming a commissioned second lieutenant in the cavalry. Patton's courage was first tested when he saw his first combat after leaving Fort Riley. In 1916, Pancho Villa led an attack on Columbus, New Mexico, and Patton joined the staff of Brig. Gen. John J. Pershing in the ensuing punitive expedition into Mexico. While the mission failed to capture Villa, Patton led a raid that killed three of Villa's men, which received much publicity and was notable for being the first time automobiles were used in combat by the US Army. Patton's courage was again put to the test during World War I. When the US entered the war, Patton joined the American Expeditionary Force (AEF) in France, where he was appointed as the first officer to the newly formed US Army Tank Corps. Patton trained, organized, and even designed the uniforms for the new tank units. He was promoted to lieutenant colonel and later became the temporary colonel, leading the first US tank units into battle during the Saint-Mihiel offensive. Despite being badly wounded by a machine-gun bullet in the Meuse-Argonne offensive, Patton refused to be taken to the hospital until he had reported to his commander, showing incredible bravery under fire. His bravery earned him the Distinguished Service Cross. In the years that followed World War I, Patton continued to be a proponent of tank warfare. During World War II, he was promoted to temporary major general and made the commander of the 2nd Armored Division. After the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, Patton organized the Desert Training Center to simulate combat and maneuvers in the harsh North African climate. Patton's strict discipline, toughness, and self-sacrifice elicited exceptional pride within his ranks, and he was referred to as "Old Blood-and-Guts" by his men. Despite controversies due to his brash actions and mercurial temper, Patton's bravery and testicular fortitude made him one of the greatest military commanders in history. His legacy lives on as an inspiration to all those who admire and value true courage and bravery. When Henry Darlington and Gerald Mygatt assembled and published the Soldiers' and Sailors' Prayer Book in 1944, they requested many of our nation's leaders to contribute a written prayer. Patton submitted a prayer for courage. I find it interesting, because our picture of Patton's courage seems to be innate… something he possessed and owned, but if this prayer is to be taken seriously, Patton's unwavering courage was not drummed up from within, but rather bestowed upon him. God of our Fathers, who by land and sea has ever led us to victory, please continue Your inspiring guidance in this the greatest of our conflicts. Strengthen my soul so that the weakening instinct of self-preservation, which besets all of us in battle, shall not blind me to my duty to my own manhood, to the glory of my calling, and to my responsibility to my fellow soldiers. Grant to our armed forces that disciplined valor and mutual confidence which ensures success in war. Let me not mourn for the men who have died fighting, but rather let me be glad that such heroes have lived. If it be my lot to die, let me do so with courage and honor in a man-ner which will bring the greatest harm to the enemy, and please, O Lord, protect and guide those I shall leave behind. Give us the victory, Lord. Amen. Testicular Fortitude Do you have testicular fortitude? Do you want to embrace your life of courage? Join our elite group of powerhouse men who are changing the world. Welcome to another captivating episode of the Manlihood ManCast, where we dive deep into issues that affect men's lives and well-being. I'm your host, Josh Hatcher, and we're here to explore a topic that's been making waves on Reddit: confiding in 100%. As we gear up for the official launch of Season 7 on October 10th, we're excited to bring you these preview episodes to get you engaged and prepared for the exciting content we have in store. Today's episode centers around a viral post on Reddit by a user named Venus Emerald2, who posed a critical question: "Men, who do you confide in 100%?" The responses to this query revealed a striking issue: many men struggle to find someone they can trust wholeheartedly with their thoughts and emotions. Josh delves into the responses posted on Reddit, highlighting that several men shared that they don't have anyone they can confide in completely. Some admitted to sharing bits and pieces of their feelings with multiple people rather than entrusting one person with their vulnerabilities. Josh recognizes that there's a loneliness epidemic among men, who often feel disconnected and isolated. He underscores the importance of not carrying the weight of one's problems alone. While some men project a tough exterior and pretend to be self-reliant, it's vital to recognize that everyone has weaknesses and moments of vulnerability. To address this issue, Josh encourages men to proactively build meaningful relationships where trust is earned on both sides. He emphasizes the need for reciprocity in these relationships, where you're there for others when they need you and vice versa. Building these connections takes time and effort but is crucial for mental and emotional well-being. Josh also addresses the digital realm and social media, emphasizing that while online communities can provide support and interaction, genuine connections with real people are irreplaceable. He encourages listeners to seek out local groups, hobbies, or events where they can meet like-minded individuals and begin the process of building friendships. In conclusion, Josh urges men to take the initiative in forming strong relationships and being there for others when they need support. By investing in friendships and cultivating trust, we can combat the loneliness epidemic and ensure we have someone to confide in when times get tough. I was deeply offended by this statement...

In this episode of the Manlihood ManCast, host Josh Hatcher dives deep into the pivotal moments in his life, driven by a powerful statement that initially offended him but eventually changed his perspective forever. Join us on this journey of self-discovery and the realization that the choices we make shape our reality. Josh begins by recounting a financial counseling session he had during a challenging period in his life. The financial counselor uttered a statement that initially offended him deeply: "You are where you are because of the choices you've made." At the time, Josh felt victimized by external circumstances and didn't want to accept that he played a role in his predicament. As he reflects on this encounter, Josh delves into the choices he and his wife made early in their marriage, including starting a family at a young age and moving back to his hometown. These choices, while meaningful, came with their own set of challenges and financial strains. The financial counselor's words echoed in his mind, forcing him to confront the reality of his decisions. Josh emphasizes that life doesn't always offer immediate rewards for good choices. Sometimes, good choices involve long-term investments, and their positive outcomes may take time to materialize. Additionally, he acknowledges that even good choices can have unexpected consequences, but it's crucial to accept them and adapt. The concept of karma, where good choices equate to good outcomes, is challenged, as Josh argues that life is far more intricate than a straightforward equation. He underscores the need for men to take responsibility for their choices and the consequences they bring. Instead of blaming external factors or individuals, men should embrace their power to determine their feelings, reactions, behaviors, and performance in life. Josh concludes the episode with his signature sign-off, "I love you, I'm proud of you, and I'll see you next time." He encourages listeners to recognize their sovereignty in the world and to make choices that align with the men they want to become. One is to believe what isn't true; the other is to refuse to believe what is true.” ― Soren Kierkegaard “The most common form of despair is not being who you are.” ― Søren Kierkegaard “What labels me, negates me.” ― Soren Kierkegaard “Marry, and you will regret it; don't marry, you will also regret it; marry or don't marry, you will regret it either way. Laugh at the world's foolishness, you will regret it; weep over it, you will regret that too; laugh at the world's foolishness or weep over it, you will regret both. Believe a woman, you will regret it; believe her not, you will also regret it… Hang yourself, you will regret it; do not hang yourself, and you will regret that too; hang yourself or don't hang yourself, you'll regret it either way; whether you hang yourself or do not hang yourself, you will regret both. This, gentlemen, is the essence of all philosophy.” ― Søren Kierkegaard “The Bible is very easy to understand. But we Christians are a bunch of scheming swindlers. Balls. Guts. Manlihood.  Testicular Fortitude on the Manlihood ManCast is where we take a look at men who have beat the odds, men whose courage has left a lasting legacy. The Vikings, feared and ruthless raiders, who plundered and pillaged their way through Europe, spreading terror and destruction wherever they went. But among their ranks stood one warrior who rose above the rest, a man who was as feared as he was respected, a man known as Ivar the Boneless. Ivar, son of Ragnar Lothbrok, was a Viking chieftain of Danish origin, whose life story is suffused with legend. He was a man who sought not only to plunder but to conquer. In 865, Ivar and his brothers Halfdan and Hubba invaded Great Britain at the head of a large Viking force, known as the Great Heathen Army. Their motivation was to avenge their father, who had died after being captured while raiding the kingdom of Northumbria. After capturing the capital city of York in 866, Ivar led his army to Nottingham, in the kingdom of Mercia. But the Mercian king Burgred called upon Wessex for assistance, and King Aethelred I and the future King Alfred soon arrived to besiege Nottingham. The Danes withdrew to York without a fight. Ivar and his brothers remained in York for about a year, before returning to East Anglia where they defeated King Edmund in battle. Ivar did not participate in the Viking campaign to take Wessex from King Alfred in the 870s. Instead, he renewed his partnership with Olaf the White and entered what is now Scotland. Their army overran and destroyed Dumbarton, capital of the Strathclyde kingdom, in 870. The following year the two returned in triumph to Dublin. Ivar, by then known as 'king of the Norsemen of all Ireland and Britain,' died in 873. The meaning of Ivar's peculiar nickname, 'the Boneless,' is not known with any certainty. It might refer to a hereditary skeletal condition such as osteogenesis imperfecta, or to an inability to walk. It stands in contrast to modern times, when pain or any kind of disability almost gives us an excuse to surrender. Ivar isn't known for his kindness, or his goodness. He was fierce and brutal. He took what didn't belong to him. He ruled and reigned in the very ways a viking would expect. As with many of the men we highlight here, we can learn from their moral weakness as much as we can learn from their strength. In the face of that debilitating pain, Ivar the Boneless was a Viking warrior unlike any other, a man of courage, strength, and determination, whose legacy lives on to this day.
