Happy New Year! ... but this NYE set by the Dead should put you in the mood to say goodbye to 2024 and to ring in a brand new 2025... This show occurred at an important turning point for the Dead, as they moved forward with many 'new' tunes and with Keith and Donna as members of the band (Donna makes her vocal debut here on 'One More Saturday Night'). The sound on this FM broadcast is generally very good and the band is tight. The boys play here with a great youthful enthusiasm.. They open with 'Dancin' In the Streets' which they wouldn't play again until June of 76.. This is a long and fun first set, clocking in at over 90 minutes.. Pig has some great moments here - Mr. Charlie, Chinatown Shuffle and Next Time You See Me are great.. All in all a great first set, we'll hear set 2 next week.. On today's show we talked about how Gen Z are into picking people up at a doctor's office or a funeral. We also talked about a guy who won't come into his house without waiting in the driveway for ten minutes and it was another Fed Up Friday where we gave people the chance to bitch about anything they want!

An awards ceremony scheduled for Friday will recognize a group of Sterling Heights heroes. Employees say a family was shopping when the father of an 18-month-old boy ran up to the cashier, frantically asking for help because the child wasn't breathing. One person is dead and two others injured following a crash in Dearborn Heights. It happened Tuesday afternoon at the intersection of Van Born and Gulley roads. Police say a tow truck was traveling westbound on Van Born when it collided with a vehicle turning onto Gulley from Van Born. (Credit: WWJ)

This week's Deadpod features a historic performance - it occurred on the night the band was 'busted down in New Orleans' - January 30, 1970 at The Warehouse in New Orleans, Louisiana. Also historic as it was the last show that Tom Constantin played in the Dead.. but aside from that this is a fine show and I think you'll enjoy hearing this very good tape.. The tape is missing part of the opening Casey Jones, nevertheless good vibes here and on the following 'Me & My Uncle'.. 'Black Peter' is wonderful.. I also think the 'High Time in this set is absolutely perfect. 'Cumberland Blues' is hot.. hotter than you think that song should be ;) and is there a better song to pull out here than 'Easy Wind'? The 'Cryptical Envelopment>Other One>Cryptical' is hard driving Dead! They do a sweet transition into 'Cosmic Charlie' - sadly this one is cut as well... . Happy New Year! From a request from a longtime frirend of the Deadpod - I've decided to celebrate the end of 2020 with this fun and raucous show from NYE 1982. I'll present this one over the next couple weeks and hope can feel and enjoy the fun that the band and everyone in attendance had on this special night 39 years ago. The first set which we'll hear this week is a bit short, but still well played and tight. Garcia's voice is a bit creaky but he makes up for it with some very nice work on the guitar. A long 'C.C. Rider' has Mathew Kelly sitting in, but I believe Brent adds much to this one (and throughout the set). 'Cumberland Blues' is for me the highlight here as Jerry really brings some nice licks. Brent delivers a short but nice 'Far From Me', Weir is forceful as usual on 'Cassidy' and a bit screechy at times on 'Looks Like Rain' but these are fine versions. 'Ramble On Rose' always brings a smile, and a 'Day Job' to end the year seems quite appropriate. Oakland Auditorium Oakland, CA 12/31/82 - Friday One Cold Rain And Snow ; C C Rider ; Cumberland Blues ; Far From Me ; Cassidy ; Ramble On Rose ; Looks Like Rain ; Keep Your Day Job You can listen to this week's Deadpod here: http://traffic.libsyn.com/deadshow/deadpod010121.mp3 A word of thanks for your kind support over the holidays and throughout this last, difficult year. I very much appreciate your kindness. May these songs fill the air with much joy and well being this next year! "Sometimes when the cuckoo's crying When the moon is half way down Sometimes when the night is dying I take me out and I wander around I wander round"
For your Christmas week enjoyment.. a stunner from very late Fall, 1971.. Pig and Keith were both in fine form on this night at the Fabulous Fox.. This first set is a fine, uptempo collection highlighted, I think with the two Pig tunes, 'Mr. Charlie' and 'Next Time You See Me', as well as a great 'Loser' and 'Jack Straw'. Jerry kind of misses some of the lyrics on 'Tennesee Jed' but makes up for that with some great guitar work on that one. I'll present the second set for your enjoyment Christmas morning.. Grateful Dead Fox Theatre St. Louis, MO 12/10/71 - Friday One Bertha [5:52] ; Me And My Uncle [3:01] ; Mr. Charlie [3:46] ; Loser [6:30] ; Beat It On Down The Line [3:04] ; Sugaree [7:16] ; Jack Straw [4:54] ; Next Time You See Me [4:06] ; Tennessee Jed [7:08] ; El Paso [4:21] ; Big Railroad Blues [3:46] ; Casey Jones [5:33] You can listen to this week's Deadpod here: http://traffic.libsyn.com/deadshow/deadpod121820.mp3 Thank you for all the kindness and love.

It's been a particularly interesting week. Starting with Baron Oil (BOIL) about which I said last weekend the only question was the price of the placing, that question was answered on Friday: 0.1p. There’s shades of I3 Energy (I3E) here, where there was a similar stunt by the ill-informed misinterpreting and distorting an RNS announcement back in December. Bahamas Petroleum Company (BPC) announced that its Bahamas mutual fund offer has flopped, raising only £700,000 at 2p. Another one with a big drill, but fully funded, 88 Energy (88E) announced an operations update. Tower Resources (TRP) announced a Cameroon operational update. The marine survey vessel completed its work at the well site last Friday One that’s clear about its need to place is Providence Resources (PVR), which advised that it currently has sufficient working capital to fund its costs through to the end of March/ early April 2020. Lansdowne Oil & Gas (LOGP), too) was the news that they have recommenced the Barryroe farm-out process and a number of companies are actively assessing the field data. I thought it would be hard for a company to be worse than Anglo African Oil & Gas (AAOG), but then along came Zenith Energy (ZEN). Petrel Resources (PET) issued news last week regarding the Tamraz shares and posted a link to a letter from the group. It’s not at all convincing. I mentioned Hurricane Energy (HUR) last weekend too, saying that I had cautioned about it towards the end of last year when it was in the 30s and it was now down to 17p. https://www.share-talk.com/oil-man-jim-company-oil-gas-podcast-weekend-blog-16th-february-2020/

Hey, it’s Amy Newmark and it’s Friend Friday on the Chicken Soup for the Soul podcast. Today I’m talking to Michelle Barton, who is what is known as an ultrarunner. In regular English, that means she is crazy. She has competed in some of the toughest races on the planet, including races like the Badwater 135, which takes place in the middle of the summer in Death Valley and goes 135 miles. What a day in history! Completely unrelated events from 1944, 1973, and 1991. In keeping with the theme, an arbitrary poem by Melville.

Happy Winter Solstice! and of course Merry Christmas.......... While this is the last Deadpod before the holiday, I will naturally include some great acoustic Dead music for your enjoyment. However since it is also a few days before the holiday, I thought I would break with tradition a bit and include some electric Dead as well. The show I selected for this week really dictated this choice, its a fine show that was performed back on April 3rd, 1970 at the University of Cincinnati in Cincinnati Ohio. I bring you part one this week. Unlike most acoustic sets, this show features an acoustic set right smack in the middle.. so rather than try to rearrange the songs I thought I would bring you the first part this week and finish up next Friday night. Some of the highlights here include a great jam in 'China Cat'>'I Know You Rider' , Pigpen on 'Hard to Handle' and Katie Mae', and the first ever preformance of 'Candyman' . Don't miss the alternative lyrics on a nice acoustic 'Friend of the Devil'. Join Bobby, Mike, Ann and Christy for a month-end round-up of the TBTL and LRB topics from April we needed more time to cover, including: The winner of our seven-way candy melee The loser of all candy, ever (no poll necessary) More pet nicknames More oldest emails And more! Plus, Bobby’s coconut aversion, Mike’s cracked house, Ann’s awkward brunch, and a passing reference to the time Christy “googled porn.” It’s a grab bag of delight, without a single yambag in sight.

A real classic recording of some outstanding good ol' Grateful Dead this week, as we enjoy the band's performance on June 27th, 1969 at Veterans Auditorium in Santa Rosa California. This is one long set, as there were several bands on the bill this night and we get to hear some of the first performances of several songs destined to become classics. Slewfoot - the opening number wasn't one of those, but this is likely to be something you've never heard before - an old Johnny Horton number, with Jerry on Pedal Steel (he would also be on pedal steel guitar on Dire Wolf and Green Green Grass of Home on this set). Mama Tried follows, the 4th time the band has played it, even more country sounding than it would sound in years to come. A beautiful High Time follows, in only its third appearance.. Dupree's Diamond Blues follows then Me & My Uncle, still new in the band's rotation. A very different opening to Casey Jones is a treat to hear, as is Bobby handling the vocals on Dire Wolf. Other highlights include Pigpen on his only number here, "Big Boss Man", and of course Dark Star and St. Stephen.. Green Green Grass of Home, was made popular by Porter Wagoner on the country charts around this time.. I hope you enjoy this great recording of some wonderful early Dead.. I've had a request for this show for almost a year and for one reason or another never got around to playing it.. but some recent requests for Pigpen and a stroke of good fortune caused me not to overlook it any longer.. This piece of primal Dead has some wonderful versions of some classic early songs; I particularly like the Pigpen numbers and 'Sittin On Top of the World'.. 'Doin' That Rag' is always a favorite of mine as well. Here's a real treat from 1969.. this show starts with a great acoustic set, occasioned, says Jerry, because Billy has been delayed on his way there.. this week I'm bringing you both the acoustic and electric set (I've had to remove a couple of songs who were just cut too badly to broadcast). While there are several unfortunate cuts, I'm sure you're going to enjoy this beautiful and sometimes raucous, performance.
