    Finding Your WHY

Play Episode Listen Later Apr 27, 2022 4:27

When you know WHY you're doing something, it's much easier to stick with and follow through on. Think back to the subjects in school that you hate, most likely you can't see any reason WHY you should do it, or WHY you would ever need to use it in life (trigonometry). But when you can see the WHY, like knowing that workouts translate directly to results and success on the playing field, it's much easier to stick with it through the hard things. It's the same with life, when you feel you have a purpose, your WHY, things just flow for you. It doesn't mean it's going to be easy, or that you'll enjoy every aspect of it. But it DOES mean that you can see where you're headed, rather than just blindly charging ahead through life.  Your WHY is the measuring stick you hold up to everything in your life. “Should I take this job”, “should I move to this city”, “should I get married to this person”, etc. All you have to do is measure that against your WHY, and it will give you instant clarity on your path forward. 101KEYS Learn to Say NO

One of the biggest “Keys to Life” I know of is learning how to say “NO”. One trait of IMPACTFUL people is that they want to make a difference whenever, wherever, and however they can. Too often the thing that goes along with this is the propensity to say “yes” to every opportunity that comes up. Always remember, that saying yes to one thing, is saying no to something else. And that something else may just be the thing you SHOULD be saying yes to. Don't be afraid to prioritize the things that are important to you. Don't let someone else make their problems your problem, and force you to say “yes” just because they “need” your help. Learn to recognize when an opportunity is right, and say yes to those things, and no to the things that aren't right for you. Say yes to more of the things that “light you up”.  Learn how to say “no”.

Key to Life: Don't Be the Smartest Person in the RoomWhile it's great for your confidence (and your ego!) to be the smartest person in the room, it also tends to stagnate your learning. Because when you're the smartest person in the room, what more is there to learn there?I think it's important to continually learn along the journey of life, and in order to keep learning, you have to be okay with being the person who doesn't know something. Be okay with not knowing. Admit that you don't know and then purposely seek out spaces and communities that can teach you something new.At some point, you might become the person that others look towards as a teacher, and that's great! Be willing to teach others what you know, but also be willing to spend time in a different room – the one where you aren't the smartest person, and in fact might be the person who has the most to learn.Follow Amy on all the socials: https://www.instagram.com/farmishkindoflife/ https://flote.app/user/amyandallthethings https://mewe.com/i/amydingmann Check out the https://teencatalyst.com/tcfsevent (Teen Catalyst father/son camping event) happening June 24-26.

Today's key to winning at life comes from none other than my sister, Sara. Her key is, take time to rest and recharge. Here's the confession: I've really, really struggled with burnout! And it wasn't until a month or so ago that it clicked! I was reading an article for moms, and the author made the comment, "You can't pour from an empty cup." And I cried! I was trying to do so much on my own strength, and it was impossible. There is a reason God commanded us to rest! We were not designed to take all of the stress of life on ourselves. We HAVE to rest and fill up our strength of mind and body so we can keep going for our loved ones and our own passions and interests! Since then, I've been making more of an effort to take more guilt free rest periods so I can give my family the Mama and Wife they need. ~ SaraDon't forget to sign up for the Teen Catalyst father/son camping event. Today's "Key to Winning at Life" comes from Melissa White. One of the things that helps me to win at life is cleaning as I go and keeping things organized. When my house gets messy and things aren't where they are supposed to be, it throws everything off and takes so much longer to finish a project. Like when I am cooking in the kitchen I like to clean up as I go so there isn't such a large overwhelming mess at the end. It also helps to be very organized so I can quickly find the bowl, knife, seasoning blend, etc.. when I need it and I don't spend half my time looking for something. Like the saying goes, “A place for everything and everything in it's place.” If you make it a habit to have a place for everything and put it back in it's place when you are done using it, then you not only save your time and sanity looking for it you also save money because you won't run out and buy another thing when you can't find the one you already have.Go get organized, and do good work. #7 in our '101 Keys to Winning at Life' series. Today's key comes from Alan Bechard: Having good friends and associating with good people is a crucial part of a successful and happy life. You need to pick friends and strive to be with people that are honest and true while they are successful at the things that are important to you in life. As you go through life, seek out those that are accomplishing what you desire, those that you wish to emulate, those people that are working along a similar path that you are striving to go down. If you surround yourself with people who's values do not align with your own, you will find yourself going astray from your values. We all slowly adapt and adjust to the people that we surround ourselves with. You can make the conscious choice to choose those that you surround yourself with and associate with, make sure that you are making wise choices. In conclusion, the people that you surround yourself with are both a reflection of who you are, as well as an indication of your path forward and who you will become. It is important to choose those people wisely as you go through life.

Today's key comes from Christina Fong: You have a goal but doubt you can achieve it.  You think dreams come true for others but are not possible for you.  Even if you have some faith that it might happen, you aren't sure where to start.  It begins by working backwards from the results you desire.  Imagine yourself adopting the identity of a person who could get those results.  Ask yourself, “Who is the type of person that could get the outcome I want?”  Identify the characteristics, qualities and habits of someone who would achieve your desired result and incorporate them into daily life now.  Learn to operate like some who has your goal.  Wake up every morning and embody the person you are on the road to becoming - your future self.   Some questions to ask yourself to get your wheels turning:1. What are my interests? Think about the hobbies you have, how and where you enjoy spending your time. Do you like spending time with people, animals, computers, books? What activities would you miss the most if they were taken away from you? 2. What are my skills? Think of the hard skills and soft skills you've acquired in life. 3. What are my strengths and talents? Think of the things you're particularly good at, as well as things that people come to you for help with. 4. What is my personality? Are you a leader or followers? Do you prefer to work alone or in a group? Do you prefer to cooperate or compete with others? Do you enjoy helping others or prefer to empower them to do things themselves? Are you a thinker who focuses on ideas or are you a doer who takes action? Are you a creative and artistic person or do you thrive with structure and routine? Also consider your values. If you want to chat with a real live person and talk your way through these questions, just send an email to coach@teencatalyst.com and we'll set a time to connect.

101 Keys to Winning at Life: #5 Todays key comes from Toolman Tim at ToolmanTim.co: How The 1% Better Principle worked for me. Two years ago I started a YouTube channel. As a 38 year old, bearded, quiet spoken fella, talking to himself in his basement office, I knew literally zero about content creation. However c My audio was barely audible. I tried a shotgun mic, a corded lapel mic, and a cordless mic. I set them up in multiple locations, watched every video I could on improving sound quality, I nearly tore my hair out. But the end result was great audio. I spent way too much time editing my content. So I forced myself to do single take videos. This allowed me to put out more content in the same amount of time. Not easy, not comfortable, but I improved. I knew live-streaming was another key to success. I had unstable internet in my studio, so I moved to my office. I tweaked the lighting, adjusted the audio, got a new backdrop, but most importantly I kept live-streaming every single week. Each time I did something dumb I didn't do it again. If you are a numbers person, 1% improvement daily leads to 3800% improvement annually. None of this would have happened if I didn't commit to being uncomfortable, trying new things and getting 1% better every day.

Impact is what we're all about here at the team catalyst podcast, creating lives that impact the world because we're all creatives we were created to create. We're made in the image of God, who is a creator and we're made to create, and we have the ability, the privilege of creating the life that we want to live the life that brings us fulfillment and joy in. So often comes through the greatest joy and fulfillment comes through impacting the lives of other people. It comes through stepping in and filling a need for others through creating positive impact. I'll say that again, success is not measured in the amount of dollars you make, but in the amount of lives you impact. So, what exactly does it take to create impact? You've probably often heard me say if you've been around for any amount of time that I've identified five keys to an impactful life and career, that's your mindset? It's your relationship? Your health, your wealth and your purpose. When you can identify those five things, when you can build those up to where you want them to be, to where you're happy and comfortable with, where each of those things are, you have the ingredients, you have the makings of a massively impactful life, a life that can change the world. So many times people like to separate their life and their career. Like I've got my life over here. I've got my career over here and never the Twain shall meet. But when you take these ingredients, you take those keys to an impactful life and you use those to identify. You know, the things that you're good at, you, you identify your strengths, you identify the gifts and talents and abilities that you've got you build on your relationships.

It didn't happen over night but that striving to laugh brought things into my life to enjoy. Here's what he had to say: Never Stop Learning: Our ability to find connection and correlation between seemingly disparate things sets us apart as unique beings (makes us human). The ability to recognize pattern is the foundation for learning. Whether a child learning that a specific sound (a word) has a meaning or an adult learning the correlation between gravity, electricity and magnetism, our brains are wired to make connections from the day we are born to the day we pass. I contend that if we stop learning, we cease being who we were made to be... human. Learning equals growth and conversely a lack of learning equals decline.Learn, do, grow. Be human. Fulfill your God-given potential. Do good work. https://www.podcast.teencatalyst.com/listen (Listen to Teen Catalyst)

“Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts.” ― Winston S. Churchill “He has achieved success who has lived well, laughed often, and loved much; Who has enjoyed the trust of pure women, the respect of intelligent men and the love of little children; Who has filled his niche and accomplished his task; Who has never lacked appreciation of Earth's beauty or failed to express it; Who has left the world better than he found it, Whether an improved poppy, a perfect poem, or a rescued soul; Who has always looked for the best in others and given them the best he had; Whose life was an inspiration; Whose memory a benediction.” ― Bessie Anderson Stanley, “Try not to become a man of success. Increasing Happiness in Life

Get Happy with MindfulnessYou may have heard of mindfulness and thought it was only about being calm or helping you deal with stress. But did you know that mindfulness can help you lift your mood and become a happier person more of the time? It's easy to get stuck in a negative mindset and stay focused on the things that aren't working in your life. Your self-talk can become all about your weaknesses or failures. Negativity becomes your habitual way of thinking. Mindfulness can help you turn that around and get into a more positive thought pattern. As a bonus, mindfulness also has positive health benefits by reducing stress and enhancing your resilience and mental capacity. Here are three ways mindfulness can help you out of the negativity spiral and into a happier state of mind. Stay in the now Practicing mindfulness can help you refocus your attention on the here and now instead of anxious fast-forwarding to future problems or brooding over past mistakes. Mindfulness slows you down and reconnects you with what is happening at the moment. You can notice and appreciate the good things that are in your life right now. Being mindful can also help you stop being reactive and instead be more thoughtful in how you respond to people and situations. Be more connected Mindfulness brings you into a deeper connection with yourself and with others. It gives you time and mental space to work out what matters to you, and what are your values and beliefs. You learn that happiness lies in knowing yourself and being comfortable with who you are. And when you are your authentic self, you can connect honestly, openly and straightforwardly with other people. Relationships can become more profound and more heartfelt. Enhance contentment and gratitude One of the beautiful effects of mindfulness is the release from the treadmill of consumerism. You stop investing in externals for your happiness. Money, external approval, worldly success, and possessions no longer hold sway over your self-worth. Mindfulness focuses your attention on what you can control. Living an authentic life, attuned and aligned with your values encourages and supports your inner wellbeing. Your happiness becomes self-sufficient. Cultivating mindfulness can open your mind to feeling gratitude for where you are and what you have right now. ‘You are enough' is not just a slogan, it is an affirmation that you can be your best you, and live the life you want.

Did you know that the most effective way to improve your life is to establish good habits and stick to them? Researchers have found that nearly half your daily actions are driven by habit, from your morning routine to how much exercise you get and the way you approach tasks. Establishing and maintaining good habits needn't be as much of challenge as it sounds if you take a micro habit approach. Instead of having big goals like ‘get fit,' ‘lose weight' or ‘get a new job,' break them down into smaller more achievable goals. Treat your personal goals as if they were work projects. Work out what steps you need to take to succeed. Start by working out what changes you want to make in the various parts of your life, from health to the office and your home life. By making some small changes in your life, you can make radical progress towards achieving your goals.

We don't always listen to our own self-talk. We tend to tune ourselves out, figuring it's all the “same old same old.” After a while, we might not be hearing it anymore. This becomes a real problem when the self-talk turns negative. Negative self-talk is what holds us back. It keeps us from accomplishing the things we could and can affect our health if it goes on long enough. On the other hand, positive self-talk is what gets us where we want to go. It boosts us when we need a jolt to set us into motion. It inspires and enables us to get to where we want to go. Amy has lots of years of homeschooling experience, having homeschooled several of her own children. The question I asked is, where parents start who are new to homeschooling and want to maintain the necessary studies, while also giving their teens what they need to keep their mind activated and interested in what they are learning. Where is the dividing line between letting them jump from topic to topic exploring everything that happens to capture their attention, and keeping them focused and moving forward on the things that will help them create a life they actually enjoy living?

5 Traits of an Extremely Fulfilled Life

Watch the original video https://youtu.be/uuNvgiMyCuM (here). Everyone wants to live a happy, fulfilled life, right? It's a no brainer! Look around you and notice the happy people who seem to roll with the punches. No matter what life throws at them, they find contentment and meaning wherever they are. So how do they do it? What do extremely fulfilled people do that you're not doing? Here are some suggestions. 1 They know themselves People who are content and fulfilled have a good idea of their strengths and weaknesses. They don't berate themselves for not being perfect, but they focus on what they do well and work on the things they could improve. A good team needs people with different strengths and talents. If you're an extrovert who loves people and organizing, you'll excel at arranging functions, events, and conference. If you're more analyst or a researcher, your strength is probably preparing reports or explaining data. 2 They stay connected Humans have a natural inclination to connect. Millions of years ago, survival depended on being committed to the group. People who are content and fulfilled in their lives tend to maintain healthy social networks. They stay connected to friends and family. They prioritize spending time with the people they love and have lots of support to rely on when things get tough. 3 They believe in themselves People who go about their lives or are dissatisfied tend to have low self-esteem. They don't expect things to go well for them and they stay in their unhappiness. Fulfilled people, on the other hand, have solid self-esteem and quiet inner confidence that life is pretty good. Confident people tend to have more friends and are more successful generally. Confidence sets up a positive circle that breeds more success, more happiness, and more confidence. 4 They are grateful A big difference people between who are content and people who are a Negative Nancy is that the happy people are grateful. Not just for their success but for everything in their lives. No matter what else is going on, fulfilled people can always find something to be grateful for. Gratitude is an excellent habit to cultivate. The more you focus on the good things in your life, the more good things there will be. Gratitude is energizing and positive and generates its own momentum. 5 They have a purpose People who are happy and fulfilled don't just wait around for good things to happen to them. They have a purpose in life that is aligned with their values, and they just go for it. Extremely fulfilled people focus on doing what they feel they were made to do, what brings them satisfaction at the end of the day, and what makes a positive contribution to the world.

They Set Goals Successful people know what they want. More than that, they actively set goals in order to get what they want. Having goals in mind doesn't count either. You need to write your goals down, and then break them down into an action plan. 2. They Stay Healthy Staying healthy is key on the road to success. A proper diet, solid exercise routine and getting enough sleep are 3 of the most powerful things you can do. Being healthy will let you focus on the pursuit of success and not worry about always getting sick or fatigued. 3. They Face Fear Fear is one of the biggest roadblocks to success. Just think about things you might have missed out on because you were too nervous to take a chance. Successful people feel fear just like the rest of us, but instead of giving up they face it. 4. They Learn It is kind of a shame that school ends so early in our lives. Some people feel like that means they are done learning. This couldn't be further from the truth. A commitment to lifelong learning will propel you towards success by keeping your mind sharp, and your skills up to date. 5. They Stay Organized There may be a handful of geniuses who are able to create and think surrounded by a mess, but for the rest of us "normies" a cluttered space is nothing more than a distraction. You will save time, energy and boost focus if you keep your space neat and tidy. 6. They Keep Balance What is the point of success if you don't take time to enjoy it? Hard work is clearly important but remember to relish the good times along the way. Having a life balance will keep energy levels high and give you something to look forward to besides work. 7. They Take Time to Think Do you ever make time to just think? Successful people do. They know that being successful means continually thinking "what next?". If you want to be more successful, schedule 20-30 minutes of quiet thinking time into your day. 8. They Surround Themselves With Inspiring People If you want to be successful, it helps to have successful friends. Besides the doors they may open for you, having successful friends will inspire you. You will learn what makes them tick, and it's never a bad thing to have a likeminded social circle. 9. They Plan Their Day Do you ever find yourself wondering what to do next? Successful people don't. They take time to plan their day, because they know that the time invested will pay off. Taking half an hour to plan your day, could save countless hours of wondering what to do next.

Today I want to talk about mentorship. A mentor is someone who is known as a trusted counselor or guide. Recognize that vulnerability is an actual leadership competency, and that peers, colleagues, and direct reports crave relatability and transparency in their leaders. The higher you are in an organization, the more warped and blurred your view becomes of what's really happening on the ground. So, remember not only to focus ON the business, but work IN the business as needed. Be a light, not a judge. Be a model, not a critic. What actions are required for you to demonstrate the vulnerability that allows those around you to do the sam?. ~ Dave HollisProtect your brain. Just because you can't see your brain doesn't mean it's not there. Invest as much energy caring for it as you do for your heart, your lungs, your skin, and other more conspicuous organs. Are you willing to become the family or community pariah in order to save a life? Dramatic? Yes. Accurate? Even more so. Protect your brain. ~ Daniel Amen We often think of self-discipline as being focused on doing something in particular. Although that certainly is true, excercising the self-discipline NOT to do something can exponentiate your creativity and productivity. If you were to establish a greater degree of self-discipline tomorrow, is there one recurring habit that, if you could improve upon, modify, or eliminate, would have a disproportionately positive impact on both your confidence and your ability to progress something enormously important to you? What is that thing that you need to eliminate in order to progress something in your life forward? ~ Ryan Holiday For more information on how to find a mentor that's right for you, or to work with me directly, contact me at coach@teencatalyst.com.
