Coming up on this episode of Flirtations, we're talking limerence, longing, and connection with our guest, Amanda McCracken, a journalist, speaker, and host of the insightful The Longing Lab podcast and author of the forthcoming book, When Longing Becomes Your Lover. Inside the episode, we breakdown limerence and the limerence cycle, and how this intense and often obsessive infatuation we may develop for someone ultimately keeps us from developing the connections and relationships we desire. We'll also explore the neuroscience behind limerence and how our brains are wired to desire what we don't have, and why this longing can become a comforting distraction. But that's not all, you all came through with questions and we've got answers, like how to break the limerence cycle? What if I just can't get over someone? I have a crush, how can I not go into limerence? What are some strategies for obsessive thoughts? What role does social media and the dating apps play in all of this? As we begin to wrap up the conversation, Amanda shares her decision to wait until 41 to have sex, which garnered national attention and sparked conversations about intimacy, self-worth, and the societal narratives that shape our romantic lives. Alright flirties, let's prepare to examine our desires and the stories we tell ourselves about love. Time to meet Amanda! Max talks about the various currencies around the world and which countries are set to implode. Other topics that Max covers are countries that are losing their sovereignty, basically being held hostage and managed by entities outside of their own country, such as the IMF and Central Banks, how bonds play a role in this issue, and the edging toward a global tax. Max talks about the many ways that the world is being led into a globalized currency, which is not a theory, but happening in real time. In addition to hosting the show and authoring the Kesier Report, Max is a blogger for the Huffington Post, and he has also presented features for the “People and Power” new magazine series on Aljazeera English. Ethereal Encounters Unveiled welcomes Mark Christopher Lee February 20th, 2025 Topic:Are Aliens A Part of God's Creation? Investigative Film Maker Mark Christopher Lee Born - not so recently in a Northern mill town where he studied Classical music at the renowned Huddersfield School of Music - eventually escaped to the glorious south of England and found solace in indie pop and after a short stint with morose Scots band The Jesus And Mary Chain he formed his band The Pocket Gods in 1998. Some 25 years later, and 76 albums and 5,000 songs later, the band has gone from playing gigs to a couple of dogs and a piano tuner to obtaining 10 Guinness World Records millions of streams, bringing real change to a broken music industry. High-profile champions along the way have been John Peel, the legendary BBC Radio 1 D.J. who loved their track Ballad Of The Peshwari Naan, and more recently Tom Robinson of 2,4,6,8 Motorway fame. His campaign for fair royalties from Spotify led to them changing their playlist rules to allow 30-second tracks on them and also led to them increasing their subscription rates, which hopefully will be passed on to artists. He has also given evidence to the U.K. parliament in their investigation into the economics of music streaming. He has been interviewed by the Wall Street Journal, Fox News, BBC World News, BBC 5 Live, TalkTV, ITV, London Live, The Independent, The Times, and many more. He decided to start making films in 2019 to tell the story of his band and then to make T.V. so that he could explore his love of UFOs and the paranormal. Check out Mark's world-first album, 100X30, which featured 100 songs all 30 seconds long—this led to the first of many Guinness World Records.

I greet you in Jesus' precious name! It is Tuesday morning, the 28th of January 2025, and this is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought for today. We start in the Gospel of Mark 8:2: ”I have compassion on the multitude, because they have now continued with Me three days and have nothing to eat.” Jesus was a kind person, Jesus is a kind person. Then we go to the Gospel of John 21:9: ”Then, as soon as they had come to land, they saw a fire of coals there, and fish laid on it, and bread.” Jesus had prepared a meal for His disciples on the shores of Lake Galilee, after His resurrection. He was concerned for the well-being of His disciples, even though they had run away and left Him - a kind man. “Compassion” means sympathetic pity and concern for the sufferings of other people. Oh, my dear friend, we need to become kinder in this world. You know it's one of the fruits of the Spirit. Yes, you'll find that in Galatians 5:22. Kindness is one of the fruits of the Spirit.Just the other night, I was watching the news on the television. BBC World News said that when they interviewed little children all over Britain, the watchword for 2025 was kindness. “Little children, what is the most important word for you?” Kindness, I wonder why? Oh man, my eyes filled with tears. Why would the little child say kindness? Maybe because there's a lack of kindness in the world we live in today. You know, I love horses, I think you know that. Horses are beautiful animals. I can look into the eye of a horse and I can tell you whether that horse is a kind horse, and I'm very serious about it, or maybe he's impatient, angry, uptight, self-centred, but a soft, kind eye in a horse is something that I look for very carefully before I will ride him.I want to tell you a little story, maybe you've heard it before but it's worth listening to again. A young pastor, many years ago, told me here in Greytown that he was studying theology in Scotland. He and his young wife were walking down the high street on a very cold, windy, wintry day, and they saw this beautiful little home, and the door was wide open. There was a bunch of flowers on the table and they walked in and this kind old lady walked out and said, ”Can I help you?” “Yes please, can I have some tea and scones?” She said, ”No problem. Please be seated.” And she started to prepare them. They were fresh and they could smell them cooking. They did get a bit impatient because she took such a long time. Eventually, she came out with fresh tea, hot scones buttered with strawberry jam and cream and when they'd finished their meal they stood up and they said to her, ”Madam, how much do we owe you?” And she looked surprised. She said, ”No, this is a private home. You don't owe me anything.” That is kindness.Jesus bless you and goodbye.

This episode features a conversation with Dr. Cindy Ermus on her recently published book, The Great Plague Scare of 1720: Disaster and Diplomacy in the Eighteenth-Century Atlantic World. Published by Cambridge University Press, The Great Plague Scare of 1720 follows the Plague of Provence from 1720 to 1722 to understand new forms of contagion and its management. As one of the last major epidemics of the plague to strike Western Europe, the Plague of Provence generated a public health crisis that impacted the social, commercial, and diplomatic choices of France, which eventually spread the public health crisis to Italy, Great Britain, Spain, and their overseas colonies. In this transnational, transoceanic study, The Great Plague Scare of 1720 reveals how crisis in one part of the globe transcends geographic boundaries and influences society, politics, and public health policy in regions far from the epicenter of disaster. Cindy Ermus is the Charles and Linda Wilson Associate Professor in the History of Medicine, and Director of the Humanities in Medicine Program at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. She specializes in the history of medicine and the environment, especially catastrophe and public health crisis management, in eighteenth-century France and the Atlantic World. In addition to The Great Plague Scare of 1720: Disaster and Diplomacy in the Eighteenth-Century Atlantic World (Cambridge University Press, 2023), she is also the author of Urban Disasters (Cambridge UP, 2023). Currently, she is at work on a co-authored global history of epidemics (with Claire Edington). Her work has been featured in The Washington Post, The Atlantic, The Verge, Stat News, and The Miami Herald, and she has been a guest on BBC World News, Univision, Al-Jazeera, and others. She is also co-series editor for France Overseas of the University of Nebraska Press, and co-founder and co-executive editor for the digital, open-access publication AgeofRevolutions.com. Have you ever attended a keynote that truly wowed you—one that stood out, engaged the audience, and provided an unforgettable experience? Let's face it, most keynotes do the job, but very few deliver that multidimensional magic. In today's episode, I sit down with Julia Korn, the founder and CEO of The Authenticity Guide and a recent client. We worked closely together to create her new keynote, from the content to the magic touches that made it a 10 out of 10. How did she do it? That's what we're diving into! We explore: The step-by-step process Julia used to land her keynote slot a year in advance (hint: proactive pitching matters!). Why the concept of a Personal Board of Directors became the winning topic that resonated with her audience. How Julia and I worked together to create a keynote that went beyond content to deliver an experience, including interactive elements like a creative game show featuring Oprah, Yoda, and even Martha Stewart and Snoop Dogg! The importance of storytelling and vulnerability, including how Julia captivated her audience with her personal story of a career demotion—and even laid flat on the stage to drive her point home. We also discuss the work that goes into crafting a stellar keynote: Balancing humor, audience engagement, and actionable takeaways. Collaborating with AV teams to nail the technical elements. Hiring a videographer to capture powerful moments for future sizzle reels. Julia shares the audience's reactions, from laughter to tears, and how her keynote set a transformative tone for the rest of the conference. She also provides valuable tips for speakers who want to make a lasting impact, whether they're on a keynote stage or pitching their next big speaking opportunity. About My Guest: Julia Korn is the founder and CEO of The Authenticity Guide, an executive coaching company focused on empowering ambitious leaders to find success without sacrificing joy. Julia is a self-described recovering perfectionist. She has been named a Business Insider Most Innovative Coach and she is also a Contributor to Forbes. Born in Cleveland, Ohio, Gail Lukasik grew up in the suburb of Parma. Her mother, an avid moviegoer, took her Friday nights to the local movie theater. That's where she fell in love with stories of all kinds. Her dream was to be a movie star, a ballerina or a writer. As luck would have it, she realized two of her three dreams. She was a member of the Cleveland Civic Ballet Company. And she's the author of five mystery novels, a memoir, a book of poetry, and numerous poems, essays, and short stories. After earning a PhD and MA in English with a specialization in writing poetry, Gail decided to write a mystery novel at the urging of her son. Destroying Angels, the first book in her Leigh Girard mystery series, was described by Kirkus Reviews as “a riveting debut thriller.” She went on to write two more books in the series, Death's Door and Peak Season for Murder, which won a Lovey Award for Best Traditional Sleuth. The Lost Artist, her stand-alone mystery, reflected her love of the visual arts and 19th century history. In 2017 Gail's memoir, White Like Her: My Family's Story of Race and Racial Passing, captured national and international attention. The Washington Post named the book one of the most inspiring stories of the year. After she and her “lost” New Orleans family appeared on NBC's The Today Show, her memoir reached the top 100 book on Amazon and led to her appearing in the short documentary film, History of Memory. The film won a Tribeca Film Award (Amazon Prime). Her section of the film, “The Secret Album,” tells her mother's story of passing. Gail's many of years of teaching on the university level segued into a vibrant speaking career. She's given numerous presentations at libraries, books groups, genealogical and historical organizations, and was on BBC World News, WGN-TV Morning News Show, WTTW's Chicago Tonight and CBC Radio Canada, to name a few. She's also lectured on diversity and the writing process at the University of Illinois-Chicago, Kenyon College and Northwestern University. Her articles about coming to terms with her mixed-race identity were published in The Washington Post, Mic.com, Salon.com, Independent.co.uk, Upworthy, Mis. Magazine and The Daily Beast. Wanting to return to her mystery roots, Gail wrote her fifth mystery, The Darkness Surrounds Us, a Gothic, historical mystery. Two historical events inspired the book—the 1918 Spanish flu and the rise of utopian communities in the 19th century. Still an avid moviegoer, Gail lives in Libertyville, Illinois with her husband. When chaos erupted in Amsterdam between Maccabi Tel Aviv and Ajax fans, photographer Annet de Graaf watched the violence unfold across the city first-hand. Her footage of Maccabi fans attacking a Dutch resident went viral, and was picked up by several media outlets, who then spun a different narrative that it was the Israelis being attacked.Headlines poured in about antisemitic attacks in Amsterdam. But these stories largely overlooked on-camera, blatant, anti-Arab racism from Maccabi supporters. In an exclusive interview, de Graaf tells Mehdi that outlets like CNN, BBC World News, and the New York Times “told the opposite of what happened in that footage.” She adds that they erased the responsibility of the Maccabi fans behind the attacks because “the truth is inconvenient.”Watch the video above to hear how de Graaf witnessed the violence unfold and how she's handling the fallout from the misuse of her footage — and the threats against her from the Islamophobic far right in the Netherlands. For more on the Amsterdam rioting, and how it was misrepresented by the mainstream media, be sure to check out academic Marc Owen Jones's latest piece for Zeteo: Innocent Israelis, Bad Arabs? Dr. Laura welcomes Brigid Schulte, journalist, think tank program director, keynote speaker, and author of the best-selling book, Overwhelmed: Work, Love, and Play When No One Has the Time. Brigid is currently the Director of the Better Life Lab and her latest book Over Work: Transforming the Daily Grind in the Quest for a Better Life, focuses on how our lives can improve by examining overwork. She and Dr. Laura discuss what contributes to overwork and how we can make meaningful changes in work in terms of policy, gender equality, and cultural attitudes and behaviors. The notion of overwork is not exclusive to Western cultures and in researching Over Work, Brigid spent time in Japan and other countries in addition to studying American work attitudes. In Japan there is a word for when people die from overwork: karoshi. Brigid wants to understand what drives people to overwork and how change can be made at a cultural level. She describes the symptoms and ultimate results of overwork with Dr. Laura and their discussion examines why all work should be good work, rewarded with a liveable wage and dignity in whatever job is being done. This episode digs deep into why we value working too much instead of valuing the work itself and how it contributes not just to our personal gain but to the common good and shared prosperity. “I argue that we need to think much differently about what work is, that work is not only what we do for pay, it is also all of the unpaid work of care and home that women have mainly done for generations … We need to consider that work. But we also need to be thinking about the contributions we make to our communities, to our society, and thinking about reclaiming the sense of why we work, not necessarily for personal enrichment or GDP growth or the stock market.” Brigid SchulteAbout Brigid Schulte:Brigid Schulte is an award-winning journalist and bestselling author. How to master “natural” leadership, with Alisa Cohn Impostor syndrome is the feeling that you don't belong somewhere — such as a prestigious school or high-performing job — because of the false belief that you aren't as smart, capable, or experienced as your colleagues. Although it's very common for new CEOs and senior leaders to face self-doubt and insecurity daily in their role, these feelings can be overcome. Remember that leadership is an unnatural act. In this episode, I discuss trauma and how to deal with its impact with Dr. Norman Fried. After October 7th, Dr. Fried became a vocal advocate and dealt with the backlash. This is an extremely deep episode and one of my personal favorites. After receiving his PhD in clinical and pediatric psychology from Emory University, Dr. Norman J. Fried served as the chief psychologist for the Children's Cancer Centers and the Division of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology at Northwell Health and Winthrop University Hospitals for 20 years. His academic appointments include assistant professor in pediatrics and psychiatry at New York University Medical School, adjunct assistant professor of pastoral counseling at the Jewish Theological Seminary/Columbia University, and fellow in clinical and pediatric psychology at Harvard Medical School. Now in full-time private practice as a grief and trauma specialist, Norman lectures on the practice of psychotherapy with critically and terminally ill children and their families at conferences across the US and Europe. Additionally, he is a disaster mental health specialist for the American Red Cross of greater New York. He is the author of four books, including The Childhood Trauma Recovery Workbook for Adults. Additionally, he is a regular contributor on crisis intervention and recovery for television and news shows, including Dr. Phil, Fox News, BBC World News, NBC News, and the Bravo channel.EndoDNA: The breakthrough DNA test that matches you with the right cannabinoid products for your wellness journey. Good culture is more than just liking each other. Here's the key way to build great culture at work. Up Next ► Adam Bryant: The importance of culture in the workplace • Adam Bryant: The Importance of Cultur... Even the most empathetic and enlightened leader in the world can foster an “unintended toxic culture” — a culture in which people are working around each other and not with each other. As a leader, you want to undergo a radical self-examination to make sure that you are not promoting a difficult culture in your work environment. This means when you think about work culture, don't just think about employees liking each other, think about the actual traits and qualities that you need to get business done. -------------------------------------------- About Alisa Cohn: Alisa Cohn is an Executive Coach who has worked with C-suite executives at prominent startups (such as Venmo, Etsy, Draft Kings, The Wirecutter, Mack Weldon, and Tory Burch) and Fortune 500 companies (including Dell, IBM, Microsoft, Google, Pfizer, Calvin Klein and The New York Times.) "Russia Russia Russia. And THAT, your honor, is the case for the defense of Dementia J. Trump" Trump is demanding that Judge Tonya Chutkan give his lawyers access to the FULL classified intelligence report proving the 2016 Russian interference, and so what if he's spent seven uninterrupted years honking and bleating about “The Russia Hoax” and denigrating the intelligence community's conclusion that Russia interfered in the 2016 election, while insisting there was no Russian interference and making it an article of faith within the Republican Cult that he was cleared of any Russian collusion and election subversion and so what if he WASN'T cleared of Russian collusion and election subversion because there WAS no Russian collusion and election subversion except now his defense is: there was TOO Russian collusion and election subversion. “Whereas the Special Counsel's Office falsely alleges that President Trump ‘eroded public faith in the administration of the election,'” write his lawyers in a light night filing demanding more documents for their defense against Jack Smith's Washington case, “the 2016 Election Intelligence Community Assessment uses strikingly similar language to attribute the origins of that erosion to foreign influence – that is, foreign efforts to ‘undermine public faith in the U-S democratic process,” Plus: Some of Mike Pence's interview with Jack Smith and his Grand Jury testimony has leaked and Trump could go to jail over the placement of a comma. In his book, Pence recounted that he spoke to Trump on Christmas Day of 2020 when the Pence-Can-Block-The-Certification Plot was already well underway. In the book Pence quotes himself as telling Trump – and the punctuation is essential: “You know, I don't think I have the authority to change the outcome." But Pence told the investigators that the comma shouldn't have been there at all and what he said was, quote, “You KNOW I don't think I have the authority to change the outcome,” which suggests that Trump had begun to pressure – to threaten – Pence to violate the constitution at least 13 days before the January 6th coup attempt. And that is DAMNING. Not the colloquial “y'know” but “You KNOW I can't do that.” And some of Liz Cheney's book is out and the shock of all shocks: Donald Trump has actually spent some of his adult life not eating: “She recounts the moment she first found out that McCarthy, fearing he had lost his ability to fundraise, secretly went to visit Trump at Mar-a-Lago just three weeks after the Jan. 6 attack. At first, Cheney thought the photo of the two men smiling and shaking hands was fake. But she was incredulous at McCarthy's defense of his visit. He claimed Trump's staff summoned him. “Mar-a-Lago? What the hell, Kevin?” Cheney asked. “They're really worried,” McCarthy said. “Trump's not eating, so they asked me to come see him.” “What? You went to Mar-a-Lago because Trump's not eating?” Cheney responded. “Yeah, he's really depressed,” McCarthy said. Oh have I got a couple jokes for YOU.
