Filling in for John Rush, Andy Peth teams up with Tanner Coleman for a fiery Hour 1 of https://RushToReason.com that dives straight into culture, character, and controversy. What does it really mean to show respect during the holidays — and why has something as simple as saying “Merry Christmas” become a flashpoint? Caller Bob, an Army veteran, joins the conversation with a timeless piece of wisdom: can one simple response — “thank you, and the same to you” — defuse today's cultural tension? Then Andy unpacks a viral Target incident involving employee Jeannie and a customer upset over a political shirt. Was the public apology that followed sincere… or just damage control? And if someone can berate a retail worker over politics, should they be trusted in healthcare? Andy shares a deeply personal COVID-era story that raises chilling questions about bias where lives are on the line. The hour closes with a no-holds-barred look at illegal immigration — from self-deportation incentives to rising costs in wages, welfare, healthcare, and housing. Who's really paying the price? And how long can cities like Denver keep up? Bold opinions. Real stories. Tough questions. Are you ready to challenge the narrative? Tune in. HR2 Filling in for John Rush, Andy Peth and Tanner Coleman turn Hour 2 of Rush to Reason into a high-energy mix of football and politics. Richard Rush joins the show to break down a packed slate of holiday NFL matchups — Cowboys vs. Commanders, Lions vs. Vikings, and a battered Chiefs team facing a fired-up Broncos squad. Is this a statement game for Denver? Can Joe Burrow keep rolling? And which teams are peaking just in time for the playoffs? The trio goes rapid-fire through the rest of the schedule, debating blowouts, trap games, and even draft-position drama. Who looks like the best team in football right now — and who's in free fall as January approaches? Then Andy shifts gears with a bold challenge for Colorado politics. What message could actually win in a blue state? Could a simple slogan — “You do you” — resonate with unaffiliated voters and put personal freedom back at the center of the debate? Big predictions. Sharp analysis. And a campaign blueprint that sparks conversation. Are you ready for football, freedom, and straight talk? Tune in to Rush to Reason. HR3 Filling in for John Rush, Andy Peth teams up with Jerzee Joe for a bold, no-holds-barred Hour 3 that dives into economics, education, and the future of America. Are voters being encouraged to “vote themselves other people's money”? What really happens when wealth is taxed, redistributed… or driven out of the country? Andy and Joe challenge socialism, break down tax myths, and argue that prosperity doesn't “trickle” — it avalanches through jobs, wages, and communities. They revisit the Reagan years, quote JFK, and ask: Do lower taxes actually grow the economy? And when it comes to college, is today's sky-high tuition worth it if graduates can't find careers? With real-world examples, they question whether higher education still aligns with the job market — or whether trade skills and engineering offer a smarter path. From wealth creation to student debt to job satisfaction, this hour pushes hard questions: What builds opportunity? What traps people in dependency? And what kind of America do we really want? Big ideas. Tough truths. Can you handle it?

In this episode, Mike McNamara and his son Justin discussing several pressing financial topics facing American families and the economy. A major portion of the discussion focuses on education, with Mike arguing that too many young people attend college without a specific career goal, resulting in debt and poor job prospects, especially when compared to the highly lucrative and desperately needed skilled crafts (like plumbing and electrical work). The hosts support this claim by quoting CEOs from major corporations who warn of severe labor shortages in essential sectors, suggesting that vocational training often yields better financial outcomes than a typical four-year degree. Furthermore, the program analyzes the alarming state of the U.S. federal debt, noting that annual interest payments are projected to exceed a trillion dollars, which contributes to a chaotic fiscal environment and potential inflation risks. Finally, the pair reviews distressing retirement statistics, illustrating that a majority of Americans are financially vulnerable, with many workers expecting to outlive their savings due to high debt loads and other financial burdens. Michael J. McNamara, Ph.D., CFP®, is the founder of McNamara Financial. A seasoned financial planner with over 40 years of experience, Mike is now semi-retired and works exclusively with long-time clients and a select few new ones. Justin McNamara, CFP® is a Certified Financial Planner with passion for investment strategy and selection. He works with small businesses and owners, parents of college-bound kids, job changers, pre- and post-retirees. McNamara Financial is an independent, family-owned, fee-only investment management and financial planning firm, serving individuals and families on the South Shore and beyond for over 30 years. Shellee has spent nearly two decades helping families navigate the college admission process, and she's walked the walk – her own four kids all went to college debt free![00:08:07] Biggest Mistake: Lacking a Plan. One of the biggest issues families face is putting all their hopes on an athletic scholarship without having backup plans in place for college funding.[00:10:19] Viewing College as a Business. The availability of athletic scholarships depends a lot on whether the sport brings in money for the university, so it's smart to think about academics and other scholarship options too.[00:14:33] Finding the Right Academic and Athletic Fit. It's not just about grades and scores—showing passion, leadership, and finding the right fit academically and socially can really open scholarship doors.[00:18:56] Helping Athletes Determine College Fit. Rather than picking a school because it's sunny or close to the beach, it's important for students to start exploring their interests and values early to find a good college fit.[00:23:59] College Prep Timeline: Start in Middle School. Starting as early as 7th or 8th grade gives students time to build their resume through community service, leadership, and other activities that will help them stand out.[00:29:11] The “Brag Binder” Strategy. Keeping a binder or digital folder of all achievements and awards helps kids see their strengths and makes application prep easier down the line.[00:32:05] Addressing Uncertainty About Majors and Careers. A lot of students don't know what they want to study. Focusing on core values and strengths can help guide that decision without pressure.[00:37:00] The Value of Neutral Mentors. Sometimes teens need a safe, judgment-free space to open up about their goals, and having a neutral coach or mentor can make all the difference.[00:38:11] Additional Resources. There are great resources – books, websites, and personal coaching – that families can tap into for support with college prep and making it debt free.Next Steps:Join our FREE Training for Sports Moms - How to Strengthen Your Athlete Daughter's Mental Game so She Believes in Herself as Much as You DoVisit our podcast website for more great episodesThank you in advance for joining us on our mission and leaving a rating and review on Apple Podcasts.Join our LIVE trainings for sports moms happening now! In this episode, Niall asks: Should children repay their parents for college fees?A mother wrote to the show after a heated disagreement with her husband. Their 26-year-old daughter, now working in a well-paid legal job, had her college fees fully covered by her parents. The mother believes it's only fair that she repays them now, but the father insists that supporting your child through education is part of parenting — not a loan with strings attached. The conversation opened the lines to passionate callers. Some argued that repayment shows respect and gratitude, especially if parents made financial sacrifices. Others said it's wrong to treat family support like a business transaction, and that the cost of education is something parents take on willingly. Some took a middle-ground view — suggesting repayment depends on family circumstances. If the parents are struggling, a payback plan might be reasonable. But if the family is financially stable, perhaps the support should be seen as a gift.As Niall points out, this debate isn't just about money — it touches on values, responsibility, and the evolving expectations between parents and adult children.

Earlier today, co-hosts Moose and Breezy shared on their morning radio show that they met a professor who talked a student student studying to become a physical therapist out of perusing a PHD. The average debt for a doctorate degree in the U.S. is $247,000. As a physical therapist in New York State, that student may have a starting salary of $63,000. The numbers don't allow for them to successfully pay off that debt! This brings up the question: "Is it even worth it?" How are we supposed to accept this change in higher education while also setting ourselves up for success? I joined Moose and Breezy on 98PXY this morning to discuss the various options we have for life after high school that don't leave us with such an overwhelming amount of financial obligation. Student loans aren't the only kind of university debt. Colleges and universities have borrowed billions, mostly to build new dorms, dining halls and facilities, spaces they may – or may not – need as student enrollment declines nationally. Today, nearly 10 cents of every dollar in university budgets helps pay interest on institutional debt.

Today Chris takes the Pugs into the dark recesses of social status and asks questions few are willing to ask. For example: Why do so many women who apply to rent Chris's apartments have so much student loan debt, and such low credit scores? Why do young men in the trades with no debt and good income still lose out to flashy guys with tons of debt who flash shiny objects? And, can contemporary culture change its ways of measuring worth to reflect reality and not the image-generated fantasies of people on the make in higher education, corporate America, and left-wing ideologues? Consumer debt stands at $17.29 trillion and many Americans are drowning in debt, with the average household owning over $100 thousand. The climate crisis, threats to democracy, and global wars add more worry to our already stressful lives. In her new book out from House of Anansi Press, “The Age of Insecurity: Coming Together as Things Fall Apart”, writer, filmmaker, organizer, and the 2023 Canadian Broadcasting Corporation Massey Lecturer, Astra Taylor uses mythology. psychology and the history of capitalism to break down the different kinds of insecurities we face, and explore how our insecurities help capitalism flourish. Without it, the system would cease to function, she says. In her years of work as Co-Founder of the Debt Collective, which emerged from Occupy Wall Street, Taylor has used debt as a tool for bringing people together and organizing. She is the author of The Age of Insecurity: Coming Together as Things Fall Apart, Democracy May Not Exist But We'll Miss It When It is Gone, and The People's Platform (winner of the American Book Award), and the director of What Is Democracy?, among other books and films. In this wide-ranging discussion, Astra Taylor and Laura Flanders discuss the history of capitalism, the rights of debtors, and what we can do to lessen insecurity and expand security both as individuals and as a society.
