In a world gone mad, The Daily Breakdown makes sense of it all. Or not. Available weekdays from 7:00 AM.
The day has come to draw a close on the experiment that was The Daily Breakdown podcast. I can't thank you all enough for your loyalty over the years. Your emails, support and kindness have meant the world to me - but most of all have been your responses to the difficult episodes we've been through together. The offer remains - if you come through Canberra, please let me know - feedme@dailybreakdown.com.au. You've been an amazing audience.Thank you for everything.
If you went to Labor or the Libs and said, "hey, here's $15 million, I want you to legislate to help my investments", you might be in a spot of bother. But what if you did it with individual candidates?
Anzac Day should be the ideal that binds the nation - not just the multi-generation Australians, it should be the story that makes Australia attractive to new arrivals and gives us all an ideal to aim for. Maybe that's why the left hates Anzac so much: it exposes their moral weakness. In other news, the media keeps hammering Katherine Deves in Warringah. We explore why - and why this issue is bigger than a candidate in a seat she will lose.
Scott Morrison sure put his foot in it when he used the word 'blessed'. Or did he? There's much more to his comments than what you heard in the virtue-signalling pile on that is ruining our ability to discuss any topic in Australia.https://www.theatlantic.com/magazine/archive/2020/12/the-last-children-of-down-syndrome/616928/

You're right to laugh at the Greens. Their economic policies are madness. They have no connection with reality. But if you think they're bad with money, wait till you see what they want to do wih national security. The left starts the culture wars and they get shirty when we realise what they're doing and fight back. There is a movement across Australia to have a federal anti-corruption body. Well-meaning people think this will stop the most egregious examples of political skulduggery and protect the public purse. As if. The worst pilfering of the public purse doesn't occur behind closed doors. It's in the open. It's bipartisan. And there's nothing we can do about it. Today, two examples. And if you're not angry, it's because you haven't heard about them yet.
Adam Bandt should be taken seriously: he is the leader of a party that could decide the next prime minister (theoretically, we all know he would choose Labor). But being a Green, he has been lucky not to be held to the scrutiny he deserves. That's a shame. He has lots of very bad ideas, and bad ideas are hard to kill.
Today on The Breakdown, we revisit the Kumanjayi Walker episode of 15 March 2022.On Friday, 11 March, Constable Zachary Rolfe was found not guilty on three charges, including murder, related to the shooting death of Kumanjayi Walker in the Northern Territory in November 2019. As soon as the verdict was reported, the Blaktivists and the race hustlers sought to capitalise on the result.Walker's life was horrific and he made the lives of those around him just as bad. His life and the reaction to his death tells us a lot about how can't have mature conversations about race or Indigenous disadvantage.Instead, we patronise Indigenous Australians and avoid the harsh conversations we need to have.Today, we have one such conversation.Investigative journalist Kristin Shorten wrote the articles on which the bulk of this episode was based. This is journalism at its absolute finest: tough, difficult, uncompromising, truthful storytelling. It can't have been an easy assignment on any level. It's the reason you pay for journalism - these are the stories that need to be told. It is superb work.
If you're a conservative, it's a hard ask to vote for the Liberal Party. If you're a libertarian, it's impossible. But it's not all bad news - the Liberal Democrats are flying the flag for freedom.I spoke to former Queensland Premier Campbell Newman, now the Lead Queensland Senate Candidate for the Lib Dems, and found out why he wanted to get back into politics, the need for courage, and is this, finally, the libertarian moment?
The election is underway and it's already boring because the candidates are wrapped in cotton wool and every ounce of personality has been squeezed out of them. So instead of concentrating on the election, let's look at the latest diversity madness ... and it is mad. And it is spreading. From America. From academia. And it will cost lives.
For the first time as PM, ScoMo showed some spine this week when he told Queensland to take a hike - pay for your own flood repair. But after one day of bad headlines and criticism from insurance companies (!), he went buckled, bent and broke. He managed to look weak whle giving away $370 million. That takes a special breed of political stupid. What more should we expect from this most hollow of hollow men?https://www.theguardian.com/australia-news/2022/apr/07/scott-morrison-caves-in-to-co-funding-queensland-flood-resilience-package-after-fierce-criticismhttps://www.skynews.com.au/australia-news/politics/getup-exploit-peta-credlins-sky-news-australia-documentary-investigation-into-climate-200-to-plea-for-donations/news-story/bc21a54e9aac9fcf780272d14ffae13a?preview=true&fbclid=IwAR3_9CMJz79UtySDEN_zXBsl69snaUcMTSMGsBF0sxoXlXFITORh2_DaCr0
After a budget where everyone got a prize, Scott Morrison has finally found his courage and said he won't send a sack of your money to fix bad planning in Queensland. That's remarkable. But like a levee around Lismore, let's see how long he lasts. And a Liberal Senator asks the boss of the Department of Health, Professor Brendan Murphy, the toughest question in the world: what is a woman? What do you think he said?
It's Asexual Awareness Day! It just seems like yesterday we were celebrating some other day about what people do with their genitals. Today we explore this and other issues that could get me banned from YouTube (a good reason not to be on YouTube). THere are also some politicians with their noses in the trough - we give them a whack - and a giant bucket gets dumped on the PM. Oh, this is going to be a long election campaign.
Everyone is being pressured to get electric vehicles - but there are a few problems. In a few years' time, there's no guarantee we will have the capacity to make the batteries, and electric vehicles won't be quite so cheap, even if we mine to our heart's content.

It used to be that if you were a victim, something must have happened to you as an individual. Today, there is a more powerful victimhood - collective victimhood. Nothing needs to have occurred directly, you just need to be. Your characteristics make you a victim - your gender, your race, your religion, your sexual preference. And even if you have the world at your feet, there's enormous power in being a victim and it is irresistible to even the most privileged.https://www.theaustralian.com.au/sport/tennis/nick-kyrgios-news-tennis-star-reveals-details-reason-behind-new-netflix-project/news-story/742eb60f2ac8b6f57937bb7e79636fcehttps://www.news.com.au/entertainment/tv/morning-shows/lisa-wilkinson-was-paid-more-than-karl-stefanovic-for-six-years/news-story/283faec8dec393ff4a8dbb83c9617642Paparazzo's letter to Lisa: https://michaelsmithnews.typepad.com/.a/6a0177444b0c2e970d0282e14b30cf200b-pi
There are big differences between Kimberley Kitching being bullied by the mean girls and Concetta Fierravanti-Wells dropping a bucket of poop on ScoMo: Kitching did it while she was alive; Fierravanti-Wells is a dead senator walking - but after years of being bagged by the left, they suddenly realise they liked her! Funny that. And after years of drawing attention to the evident cognitive decline of Joe Biden, even the Washington Post is admitting the undeniable. What took them so long? And what's to be done about him?And finally, Donald Trump played a round of golf. And then he issued a media release. It is awesome.
You didn't have to be Nostradamus to know that the Budget was going to be crap. Here's the truth - they're all hot garbage. Guesses and wishful thinking and good news built on good fortune beyond our control. The cut in fuel excise is because of Gina, Twiggy and Clive but it's paid for in debt. But don't worry, we're sending the bill to our grandkids.
Josh Frydenberg will deliver his fourth Budget tonight. It will be crap. There will be 'tax cuts'. There will be cost-of-living 'relief'. But you'll be paying for it. Maybe not today, but tomorrow - and if the spending tonight is as bad as the spending over the past decade, your kids will be paying for it as well. It's time government treated us like the adults we pretend to be and told us, "sorry, but there is no money tree".
You've heard about misinformation. You've heard about disinformation. But have you heard about 'malinformation'? It's the new ugly tool for government to crack down on speech it doesn't like and it'll be coming to a social media platform near you any day now ... it just needs a bit of context.Malinformation: https://www.cisa.gov/sites/default/files/publications/mdm-incident-response-guide_508.pdfhttps://www.cisa.gov/sites/default/files/publications/rumor-control-startup-guide_508.pdf Hunter in Ukraine: https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-10652127/Hunter-Biden-helped-secure-millions-funding-military-biotech-research-program-Ukraine.html

Maths is tough - but when your algorithms and your data are used to decide whether to lockdown millions of people, take away civil liberties and mandate vaccinations, you'd better be right. The problem is - a lot of the date and the 'science' was wrong. Kimberley Kitching was buried yesterday before senators, MPs, a premier and a couple of 'mean girls'. More stories are emerging about how she was bullied. Surely that would infuriate people like Grace Tame, Lucy Turnbull and Julie Banks who just a month ago demanded the Morrison Government adopt all recommendations in the Jenkins review of the work culture at Parliament House, including bullying. But it seems only some bullying is wrong, only some bullying needs to be investigated and some bullying needs to be stopped ... when those claims can be used to attack conservatives. https://www.abc.net.au/news/2021-09-07/kate-jenkins-respect-at-work-report/100438496https://www.news.com.au/finance/business/media/samantha-maiden-to-release-a-new-book-into-toxic-canberra-bubble-culture/news-story/8727632cb23404d60a8a46f14a4805cehttps://humanrights.gov.au/sites/default/files/document/publication/ahrc_set_the_standard_2021.pdf
Don't shoot the messenger! Not true. Russian soldiers in Ukraine live longer than messengers - especially when they say something mean - and true - about the left. Today on The Daily Breakdown, we examine two stories - one that doesn't fit the narrative and must be neutralised, and another that was neutralised but shouldn't have been. There is a common thread.https://greenwald.substack.com/p/the-nyt-now-admits-the-biden-laptop?s=w

This week we have been addressing the horrors of Yuendemu, the horrific life of Kumanjayi Walker, the pain he inflicted on the woman he said he loved, and the fear he put into the nurses who travelled to the middle of nowhere to help the 1000 residents of the isolated town who suffered from his actions. But at The Guardian, they saw something different. Their parallel universe tells you a lot about the left, and why the problems in Yuendemu, and 100 other towns like it, will never be fixed.
Imagine you're a nurse in the remote town of Yuendemu in the NT. As you try to fall asleep at night, you can hear your car windows being smashed. You can hear people trying to pry off the security grills from your windows. A few doors down, another nurse can hear her people trying to remove the roof. The Convoy to Canberra has come and gone, but it didn't take long for the media and politicians to start slandering the protestors who wanted to exercise their right to work, the right to make their own medical decisions and throw the middle finger at the governments who have cost them their livelihoods and their birthright. Some idiot in the Prime Minister's Office thought it would be a good idea to try to play nice with Grace Tame. They had no choice, of course, but she was never to give a man she hates the benefit of the doubt - and she didn't. She threw it all back in his face with interest - and kept the story going another day.The only interruption to that debacle were stories about how the religious discrimination bill failed. The bill annoys the left for its perceived slight against gay and trans children, and it annoys the right for not protecting what they see as religious freedoms. So he's annoyed everyone. It takes real talent to achieve that in politics. Whatever it is, it's not a win. It also raisdes the question: why would you vote for the Liberals?
Grace Tame and Brittany Higgins spoke at the National Press Club yesterday. It could not have been worse for the PM.Ms Higgins' charge was that he didn't do anything useful or meaningful to help women - playing into the narrative that the PM has power but doesn't use it (a common complaint of conservatives).Ms Tame alleged she was threatened by someone in a "government-funded organisation". The PM has denied it was done on his behalf - but that plays into the trust question. Who do you trust? The Liar from the Shire or Saint Grace?Yep, not a good day. The PM can't afford to lose many more.
The left has the commanding heights of the culture: the media, social media, the yartz, the activists. So while the right may win the elections, they don't do much when they're there and don't govern as they campaign - and those that try, get cut off at the knees.
Stuart Robert is a useless minister. But he did one thing right: last year he rejected six garbage research applications for Australian Research Council grants. Academics had a whinge. They always do when you get between them and taxpayers' money. Yesterday, Brian Schmidt, the Nobel-prize-winning Vice-Chancellor of the ANU had a whinge about it as well. Good. It means we can revisit these grants and the waste at our universities.Academic bludgershttps://www.canberratimes.com.au/story/7610025/political-interference-an-existential-threat-to-unis-anu-vice-chancellor/https://www.buzzfeed.com/elfyscott/42-million-in-research-grants-has-been-blocked-by-theuni salaries: https://www.michaelwest.com.au/australian-university-profits/Citipointehttps://youtu.be/Ho3VyRia3oQ
You're told that renewable energy is going to be cheaper. That renewables will be more reliable. That they can save us from the ravages of climate change. But what if there aren't enough minerals in the ground for the solar panels and the bird-murdering turbines of terror? What if I told you it was all a lie?Read this: https://issues.org/environmental-economic-costs-minerals-solar-wind-batteries-mills/#.Yfh7zJ9YOHo.linkedinFollow: https://twitter.com/MarkPMills
