Melbourne band Press Club have only played together for a handful of years, but in that time they've made a name for themselves; their live gigs are the stuff of legend, with frontwoman Natalie Foster throwing herself around the stage while belting out pitch perfect indie rock. Press Club have always recorded their albums with the same kinetic energy - short, sharp bursts in the studio that capture the essence of who they are. Their latest album was done a little differently… the pandemic killed plans to record overseas, and with plenty of quarantine time on their hands, they stretched out. Remarkably, they still managed to capture that lightning in a bottle, and so when Nat joined me to Take 5, I asked her to share the songs that captured that energy in the same way. You will after this episode!  Timecoded Guide: [00:00] Carving out our own community for in-house cybersecurity marketers [07:29] Aligning our community with the aspects of identity, participation, and rewards [12:36] Encouraging participation & knowing the limits of the high-stress cyber industry [16:22] Introducing our upcoming events at RSA and Cyber Marketing Con 2022 [24:45] Connecting our community with marketing job boards, networking opportunities, and a place that they can call their own Can you walk through the founder's journey of the Cybersecurity Marketing Society? After connecting during a job interview, Gianna and Maria developed both a strong friendship and a mutually beneficial relationship as cybersecurity marketers at smaller companies. As many of our Society members know, there are very limited resources for cyber marketing specifically, and even less of those resources provide mentorship or intel. Right before the pandemic hit, an idea was born: What if there could be an entire group of cyber marketers helping each other online?  “Being cybersecurity marketers at smaller companies, we didn't have a lot of internal resources or people to bounce ideas off of, or people to ask, ‘What are you seeing in the market? What's the best practice in this area? What do you think about this event?'”   Community needs to align with identity, encourage participation, and provide reward. In your opinion, how did the Cybersecurity Marketing Society achieve these three? The Cybersecurity Marketing Society is run by cyber marketers for cyber marketers, and we aren't afraid to admit that we vet all of our applications for potential new members. While this helps with the identity of our group, it also encourages participation from our members, who know that the CMS is a safe space to inquire and seek more information without just being advertised to or manipulated. Not only is this safe space a reward, we also offer exclusive events, virtual and in-person, and produce assets like the 2021 State of Cybersecurity Marketing report. “There are some groups I know of that require that you post once a day or once a week, and we actually don't require that. One of the reasons we don't is because we know that cybersecurity marketing can be a really, really intense industry.”    What does the Cyber Marketing Society have planned for Cyber Marketing Con 2022? What about at RSA? Considering the Cybersecurity Marketing Society was born in 2020, we haven't been able to execute in-person event opportunities for our members. However, Gianna has incredible news: in-person meetups and events are coming— twice! Join us at RSA on June 7th from 3:30 to 5:30 at the Press Club for a cyber marketing meet-up, and mark your calendars for Cyber Marketing Con 2022, happening virtually AND in-person in November. “Beyond the internal core, the heart of this, which is the Cybersecurity Marketing Slack community, there's so many ways to get involved. There's so many ways to be rewarded and to feel the connection of the group beyond that, including our Cyber Marketing Con.”   What does the Cybersecurity Marketing Society mean to you personally, in your career and in your personal life?  For Gianna, the community of the Cyber Marketing Society isn't just about the posts, the events, or the data shared; it's also about the lives changed and the people helped by everything the Society does. Hearing feedback from cybersecurity marketers who have gotten a job from our job board, improved their budget with the insight they've received, and learned something new from what we have to offer has been invaluable. “My ethos is that I treat everybody who joins the Society as if they're my best friend, and I have made some amazing friendships with some wonderful people, just based off of us congregating in a digital room together every day for the past 600 days.” ---------- Links: Get tickets for our upcoming Cyber Marketing Con 2022, and check out what we did during Cyber Marketing Con 2021. Welcome to Tulsa Talks presented by Tulsa Regional Chamber. I'm your host Tim Landes and this is the 100th episode! Thank you so much for listening to each episode.  On Aug. 4, I moderated a conversation with University of Tulsa President Brad Carson at the Tulsa Press Club for one of its Page One events.  I got to know Brad over 20 years ago when he was running for Congress. We hadn't talked in 19 years, so I really enjoyed the opportunity to catch up and learn about where life and his work has taken him before he landed at TU last July.  In this conversation, the Jenks graduate reflects on his time in Congress, including being in his capitol building office on 9/11. Brad discusses how politics have changed since he served. He talks about why he joined the Navy in 2008 and his work under President Obama running the Army. Brad also shares his thoughts on the college landscape, including NCAA sports, and his vision for TU.  Following our talk at the Press Club, hear a new song from Monica Taylor.  A Perkins, OK native, Monica Taylor's musical roots are at The Farm, which is still the epicenter of Red Dirt Music. Her nickname, The Cimarron Songbird, was given to her by Jimmy LaFave and Bob Childers, thanks to her distinctive singing style and her home near the Cimarron River. She sings from the heart, telling stories of red dirt roads, home, fence posts, trains, and sharing her Cherokee Indian heritage as well as her Scottish roots. Monica's new album Trains, Rivers and Trails, which includes the track you're about to hear, is now available at HortonRecords.org.

Van Badham and Ben Davison dive into the mess that is Scott Morrison's relationship with the truth as the week since the budget has seen Morrison called "unfit to be Prime Minister" by member's of his own government, state Liberals MPs write articles on why they "cannot vote for the reelection of a Scott Morrison government" and ABC Fact Check find him to be "misleading" All while his intervention in the NSW Liberal Party pre-selections has been called a "debacle" by NSW Liberal Premier Dominic Perrottet.  When the fish rots from the head it soon spreads to the rest of the body, Van and Ben look at some of the Liberals with questions to answer following exposes by FriendlyJordies, The Guardian and the SMH on Peter Dutton, George Christensen and Andrew Lamming respectively. As the trust deficit in the Morrison government grows the election battle lines are being drawn with Albo's budget reply focussing on aged care support, wages for workers and "putting the care back into aged care, child care and medicare."  Jim Chalmers, the man who would be Treasurer, has given a Press Club speech and picked up on the themes of insecure work and low wages while pointing out the Morrison era "to gdp" targets on tax etc are "arbitrary" and "all politics and bad economics". At the same time ACTU Leader Sally McManus has been at a small business conference talking about the need for Australia to be self reliant and that the claim for a 5% increase in the minimum wage is about ensuring a better life for each generation of Australians.  To help ensure a better life, better work and better wages, you can join your union at australianunions.org.au/wow And the good news is that Fortnite gammers have raised more than $144M for the people of Ukraine to help provide essential food, shelter and other supplies. Van Badham and Ben Davison look at the latest Qanon protests in Canberra that have seen a Go Fund Me suspended, a pile up on the highway and demands for MPs, not in parliament, to come out of parliament to answer questions from unmasked and unvaccinated "protestors". Down the road from the parliament house protests Scott Morrison delivered a National Press Club speech full of self congratulation, reminders that things could have been worse, half baked policies and laundry lists of stats that bear no resemblance to lived reality.  In the questions that followed he was torn to pieces by a cascade of insightful and explosive revelations about his honesty, his failures and his integrity.   The subsequent attempts to spin the disaster have only further stripped away the facade of the "daggy dad" to expose the "fraud" politician who "cares more about politics than people" and is desperately out of touch with the lives of ordinary people. The "how to vote cheques" of up to $800 for fulltime aged care workers has been called out as being symbolic of the "trinkets in place of diamonds" approach that Morrison has consistently taken to the aged care sector.  Despite the sector, the staff and unions all agreeing wages need to increase Morrison has ruled out supporting a wage case to improve conditions in aged care and continues to defend his government's performance. Van and Ben explain why Sunrice workers have gone on strike and how Morrison's government refuses to help protect the wages of the thousands of Qantas workers that the company, heavily subsidised by taxpayers, is trying to cut by up to 65% And the good news is about bees!
