This Episode follows on from our 4 Foundations of Good Design, which are Planning, Inside, Outside and Upside Down. This episode came about because we had our 4 Foundations of Good design, which we know are Planning, but then one of our esteemed colleagues said, you really need to add one called Downside Up, and he was absolutely correct. What we're talking about with Downside Up is all the sorts of things that are below the ground or below the level of where you are. If you're in a multi-story building, it might be something that comes in from a floor beneath and they're all the sort of connections that you need to consider as well. We were particularly talking about a kitchen with an island bench, and there's a prime example of where we need lots of things to connect to make it all work. There are also many more Downside Up considerations when it comes to designing our homes. In today's episode, we are going to discuss the design of the Downside Up spaces of our home, 4 of the most common planning challenges, how we solve those challenges with good design and the cost of errors in how to avoid them.
