A FWACATA Podcast about Resistance, Identity, and the Power of CommunityThis week's FWACATA Podcast isn't your usual Monday motivation. It's a call to attention. A gut check. A reminder that resistance starts with presence, and that presence begins with you. There's a growing weight in this country—a pressure building from misguided policy, ICE raids, political cruelty, and systems designed to divide us. The fear is real. The threats are real. But so is the power of people who refuse to bend, who refuse to disappear, and who refuse to be silent. This episode is for everyone who feels angry, scared, ignored, or underestimated, especially our Latino community and immigrant brothers and sisters who have carried the weight of labor, culture, and community while being treated like criminals.Let's be clear:Hard-working people aren't the threat. The system that targets them is.Why attacks on immigrants are a distraction from real issuesHow cultural resilience terrifies the powerfulThe danger of compliance in the face of injusticeWhy being proud of your people, your culture, and your roots is resistanceWhat it means to resist nonviolently, creatively, and courageouslyAnd a direct message to those who serve the system to remember who they areResistance doesn't always mean violence. Sometimes it means stumbling into the machine just long enough to jam it. It means not letting fear keep you quiet. It means using your art, your voice, your energy, your platform—no matter how big or small—to say:We are still here. You will not erase us. You will not stop us.This episode challenges you to think, to feel, and then to act, whether that's by supporting families, speaking truth, or just not looking away. And to those working within the system: we see you. You still have a choice. The road ahead will be hard. But like any true transformation—it's painful before it's powerful. We're not waiting for permission. We're not asking to be accepted. We're building something better, one voice at a time.Resist. Reflect. Create. Care. Be good.#FWACATA #ResistICE #LatinxVoices #ImmigrantRights #PodcastForChange #MakeArtResist #CreativeResistance #CommunityPower #BeGood

Happy Satiated Saturday! In April of 2022, I went to Disney World with my family and came back with covid. It was, unfortunately, the Delta strain that left me with long covid. I had to use an oxygen concentrator while I slept for about a year while my lungs healed through nebulized steroids and inhalers. I also had the lovely long covid symptom of losing my ability to swallow where I was on an all-liquid way of eating for almost two years. It's been quite a journey! While there are a few long covid symptoms I still navigate, I am now able to chew and swallow foods again, can sleep soundly, and generally feel much more grounded and stable in my body.Along the way, I learned so much about how the body works and that food behaviors are multi-faceted and influenced by many different internal factors. In the fast-paced world of property management, it's easy to feel overwhelmed by daily challenges. Whether it's dealing with difficult tenants, navigating market fluctuations, or managing an unexpected maintenance crisis, the hurdles can seem endless. Here's a crucial truth: success often lies not in controlling every situation, but in how we react to those situations. As property managers and business owners, taking ownership of our choices becomes a vital practice. It's about letting go of the burdens we can't change and focusing on what's within our control. This shift is essential not only for the success of your business but also for your overall well-being.In this episode, I chat with Amanda Wiapo, the Director and Property Manager at Homely Property Management in New Zealand. She shares her extensive experience in managing properties across Marlborough, Auckland, and the Manawatu region. Amanda discusses the power of choice and reaction in day-to-day property management, emphasising the importance of mindset, decision-making, and accepting what cannot be controlled.Amanda's journey, including her personal challenges, has shaped her into an exceptional property manager. Episode Summary:Like a dog returning to her vomit, America chose the sexual predator, white nationalist, pathological liar, and criminal instead of an educated, compassionate Black woman to lead this nation into our collective future. This feels more sinister than 2016 because Trump and his henchmen now have a plan in Project 2025 and I promise you, people are going to suffer. How do we sit with suffering and respond with compassion? How do we continue to seek justice without demonizing the Christians who willfully voted for this madness? How do we implement a politic of compassion in an era of cruelty?Bekah McNeel joins me today on Holy Heretics to reset this new normal, to offer a way forward through the solidarity of suffering. In her career as a journalist, Bekah has encountered a lot of suffering. After all, the most polarizing topics in US politics all revolve around suffering (gun violence, immigration, Covid-19, sexual violence, and white supremacy). She's sat with migrants seeking asylum. She's stood outside the school in Uvalde, Texas weeping with parents. She's been to Detroit and shared space with Iraqi immigrants. As she says in this conversation, “I have zero tolerance for political justifications for suffering.”Bekah's ability to break down complex political and ethical arguments through the lens of compassion is a starting point for those of us who refuse to give up the fight for justice. In this timely conversation, we discuss the following:How for-profit journalism failed the American peopleThe media's role in electing TrumpThe power of compassion and the limits to our compassionHow to respond to disinformation with questions and compassionHow to distinguish between political and ethical issuesHow to cultivate healthy relationships with friends and family with whom we vehemently disagree withThe issues behind the issues that turn political disagreements into personal attacks, i.e. the conversations about politics with your parentsBio:Bekah Stolhandske McNeel is a native of San Antonio, Texas, where she works as a journalist. Her work has appeared in Texas Monthly, Sojourners, The Guardian, The Trace, The Texas Tribune, The 74 Million, Christianity Today, Texas Public Radio, Relevant, Andscape, The Hechinger Report, and the Christian Science Monitor, among others. She published her first book, Bringing Up Kids When Church Lets You Down: A Guide for Parents Questioning their Faith with Eerdmans in 2022. Known for her ability to communicate the high stakes of politics and policy and bring clarity to complex systems, Bekah keeps the human beings most affected at the front of her coverage.Bekah is a graduate of the London School of Economics, where she earned a MSc in Media Studies. She is married to Lewis McNeel, an architect with Lake | Flato. All ABA programs require us to take data, but what does that mean? The data we collect is only worth something when it's properly analyzed. Once we have a program in place for our learners, it's important to ensure that we're using the information we collect to make data-based decisions. Here, we discuss how to make the best data-based decisions to achieve progress. When we look at data, we're looking for trends so we can troubleshoot programs and ensure success for our learners. We also look at reasons why data is stagnant, including scheduling issues and consistency in running programs. Here, we touch on what to look for in the data so you get the full story. We also discuss how to ensure data collection accuracy. In last month's CEU, we covered how to choose the right data collection method to uncover what we want to know. If you've been diagnosed with a mental health disorder like anxiety or depression. It can be easy to let that define you, but that is a roadblock to healing. It's important that we remember that we are more than our diagnoses. Our guest Chris Glatis has struggled with anxiety and panic attacks since a young age and tried many things to feel better. In this episode of From Survivor to Thriver, he's sharing his story and how he learned to understand that he is not broken and healing is possible.Chris Glatis is an award-winning filmmaker and lifelong seeker who was diagnosed with an anxiety disorder soon after entering college. Motivated to overcome what he initially saw as a weakness, Chris devoted himself to learning how humans heal. He's tried it all, from silent meditations on mountaintops to Native American sweat lodges, psychotherapy, men's groups, yogis, trauma work, and creative projects that explore characters who, despite deep, psycho-spiritual struggles, are ultimately redeemed. By sharing his own journey in his book When Your Mind Screams, he demonstrates how what was once his greatest weakness is now his greatest teacher. From mood and memory to inflammation and performance, understanding gut health is one of the new frontiers of study in health, particularly women's health. Sara unpacks this topic with Dina Griffin, MS, RDN, CSSD, CISSN, METS II, and founder of The Nutrition Mechanic. Dina and Sara discuss the concept of gut health, which has expanded beyond just bowel movements and colon cancer, to include the many ways the gut affects our overall health and well-being.Topics in their discussion include:What do we mean by "gut health"?Signs and symptoms of poor gut healthWhy it's hard to diagnose and treat gut health issuesThe unique gut health challenges women faceWhy your birth method (vaginal or C-section) may impact your gut health in adulthoodThe difference between a probiotic and a prebiotic and when we may need themHow hormonal changes impact gut microbiomeThe impact the exercise stress can put on the gut, potentially leading to gut issuesHow to manage gut health challenges during training and racingWhen to include more or less fiber in your dietBest practices to improve gut health and strategies for introducing more fiber-rich foods without causing discomfortBecause gut health and the microbiome are such complex subjects, and because multiple factors affect the health of the gut, there is no “one size fits all” solution to addressing gut health issues; however, Dina emphasizes consumption of fiber-rich foods, including fruits, vegetables, legumes, and probiotic foods like kimchi and sauerkraut to feed the microbiome.
