Do you believe in the notion of being "in the right place at the right time"? I certainly do! While browsing IG I came across a reel of a woman with a smile that could LITERALLY light up the sky and she was sharing a scripture. So you know I had to go to her page, take a look at who she was and what she was doing. Zephia Bryant is the creator of the 50 Days of Jubilee. For 50 days she is creating a reel, and in it she shares a scripture and gives some context. Can we say ENCOURAGING!!! and can we also say CONSISTENCY. This is our 2nd Episode in SMORGASBORD month and I had the pleasure of sitting down with the CEO/Founder of Sistah Girl Movement, Erica Alexander. Erica shares with me how her career in Education caused her to pivot and start her organization. SGM is a community service based organization whos primary focus is to cultivate healthy relationships between women while helping them to build their self esteem. From there these Sistahs host events and programs to provide free services to their community. She also shares the importance of girls and women loving themselves, being authentic, how she deals with those personal mental health days, and how support doesn't always come from those closest to you. Welcome to Smorgasbord Month!!! This month I will drop 2 and a half episodes per week. We will begin our week with Waaaasss Happanen Wednesday in the AM, then a full episode will drop Wednesday night, and then another full episode will drop Sunday morning. Confusing much? Lol Just tune in okay lol Like I said, this month's theme of episodes will be a Smorgasbord. Simply meaning we will be discussing a variety of topics with a variety of guests. Our first guest of the month is Ant Boogie from the Keeping the Towel Podcast. He shares with us his journey into podcasting, how he started, his process for creating content and we do a deep dive into one of his episodes regarding the relationship between black women and men. THEN at the end we have a hilarious Q & A session. Ya'll know I'm "quisitive" lol Tune in and let me know what you think... Thanks for the support! According to Dictionary.com the Swedish term Smorgasbord is defined as: 1) a buffet meal of various hot and cold hors d'oeuvres, salads, casserole dishes, meats, cheeses, etc. 2) an extensive array or variety. The context of this episode is based on the latter. When my mom needed to go grocery shopping she would say to me "ok tonight for dinner we are having a smorgasbord of food". Which meant she was cleaning out the fridge and cabinets of old foods to make room for fresh and new food. Are we allowing God to do the same in our lives? Is there room for him to do more? Or are we at capacity thus tying his hands? Tune in...Let me know what you think. Rate and Write a review, because your feedback is VITAL to the success and visibility of the podcast. Love you
In June we celebrate Fathers Day and I felt like the good dads aren't acknowledged like they should be. So with that being said, I let the dads take over the podcast for the month making it OFFICIALLY FATHER'S MONTH
In our final episode of Father's Month I invited Coach Cam on share with us his experiences as being the Head of his household. He shares his fears as his family began to grow, his love for his bonus son and children, how he decompresses, and how he consciously made the decision to NOT raise his children based on his traumatic experiences. Coach Cam also drops some valuable nuggets on how fathers can begin to address their fears by being transparent with their partners. Tune in and thank you for your support! Hey Hey UEP Family We have officially made it to the 3rd Episode of our Father's Month series and before we go any further HAPPY FATHER'S DAY to our listeners who are dads in whatever capacity!!! We APPRECIATE you, We NEED you, We VALUE you, We HONOR you, and We LOVE you! This week's guest is Jack Robertson Co-Host of the Kenyetta and Jack Save the World Podcast and we discuss his strength as a Dad. His daughter Emily had a freak accident that left her with 2nd and 3rd degree burns, and set her on the path to endure some EXTREMELY difficult healing physically, emotionally and psychologically. As parents we will take on ANY obstacle, dilemma, or circumstance if it protects our children from unnecessary pain. But, what are we to do in the situations where we can't? Jack shares how he was able to be Emily's strength in the most difficult period of her life by not succumbing to feeling helpless. He also admonishes other dads who may find themselves having to be the strength for their entire family, at any given period of time, to understand that it is ok to seek help in the form of therapy. Yea I know I missed Waaaasss Happanen Wednesday but life was lifing again and I had to be present in a beautiful moment that I shared with my baby...So that's that on that sis! Okay so today is Tell it ALL Thursday and I just wanted to share 5 experiences I've had since Saturday. From starting therapy, to HIV Test results after 10 years, to what HAS to be a HEALTH CODE, HUMAN CODE, COMMON SENSE CODE, COVID CODE, PARENTING CODE, and finally a WTH CODE violation while we were out to eat. Thanks for tuning in...
In our second episode of the Father's Month series, I speak with David Tolbert, who is a new dad to 1 year old, Ms. Callie Tolbert. As a new dad there is no book that can prepare you for the journey of fatherhood. As David puts it, you're literally holding your legacy in your hands when you hold your child. We discuss his initial concerns about fatherhood, one being, him needing to ensure that he could support his new family of 3, how he was able to remain super cool in the delivery room, how he and his wife had close experiencing pregnancy at the same time, the first time he held Callie, swaddling, Callie's schedule, blasting gender roles, finding support amongst other fathers, and why he calls his wife the "Police". He also shares the importance of fathers making their wives or partners a priority by finding ways to best support them. There are so many fears, pressures, and stigmas associated with fatherhood especially within the POC community, and often times our men don't find the support that they need. In closing, David shares some solid advice for new dads, that kept him encouraged. First, seek God and ask him for wisdom. Also, remember that children are gifts from God, and when he gives you a gift he gives you EXACTLY what you need to take care of that gift. Everything your child needs is already in you.
Forgiveness this, Forgiveness that
SOOOOOOOOO it's June and we celebrate Father's Day this month, but instead of giving the dads socks and ties I decided to gift them the Podcast for the Month. That's right the MONTH!!! To share their stories, and their experiences. Our first guest this month is Jared Flannagan, and he discusses how he was able to cultivate a healthy co-parenting relationship with his ex-wife, and her husband for the sake of his daughter. This episode had me an emotional Capricorn Wreck afterwards, because Jared was so transparent, and it's clear that he is giving his daughter the very best version of himself. If you've ever been in a blended family before, at a young age, you know the anxiety can be overwhelming. You struggle with "having to choose" between your biological or step-parent. Due to a chance encounter, Jared made it his mission to never put his daughter in this situation again. Instead, he shows his daughter the advantages of having 3 parents who love her dearly and who are able to co-parent amicably. Grab some tissues, and tune in... Look the price is going up! You better book me for your birthday party, wedding, funeral, bar mitzvah etc. Lol Also ladies we need to be more intentional about how we speak to, support, and uplift the men in our lives. The ONLY way to do this is to FIRST be intentional in our relationship with God.
Hey UEP Family, we are celebrating TWO milestones with this episode. We made it to our 30th EPISODE!!! and we're closing out Mental Health Awareness month
This year Mental Health Awareness month was challenging for us as a nation. BUT I had the opportunity to have some PHENOMENAL guests on to help us navigate the challenges we faced individually and collectively, from various perspectives. It is my hope that you take away something from each episode. Below is a list of the episode topics and the guests name. Also, each guests contact information with be in the show notes of their respective show. Mental Health Awareness Month has been "Monthing" for me. My emotions, feelings, and thoughts have been difficult to navigate here lately due to a recent devastating encounter. Have you ever had this to happen? How were you able to cope when your emotions were intent on keeping you down? This episode we have Psychotherapist Dona Airey on and she teaches us the difference between feeling and emotions. Am I the only one who thought that they were the same thing? Well, they're not. In this episode we learn how to embrace our emotions and how to be accepting of the best way for us to express our emotions. She gives us some helpful tools to deal with being what's perceived as overly emotional, having a standoffish personality, how to deal with grief, how to deal with anger and how to express emotions safely. Since initially recording this episode I have become a client of Dona's and its been life changing. Tune in and let me know what you think. This weeks guest is Onnie Poe. Educator, Business Owner, and both a Mental Health Wellness Coach and Advocate. Onnie shares with us some of the experiences that led her to become a Mental Health Advocate within her community. Pulling from her own mental health challenges, she's made it her mission to create a safe space for others in the same situation. Her transparency is dismantling stigmas associated with mental health and is teaching many how to open themselves up to the help that they need. BUT the primary problem that grassroots advocates are facing is, the limited resources. Whether someone needs support with coping or if an individual is having crisis, the question becomes, Where do they go? Did you know that in most states First Responders and Police officers are NOT trained in crisis intervention or mental health support? Tune in as Onnie shares with us how to put our "Boots on the Ground" by becoming involved in our community and advocating for more resources centered around Mental Health. Wassup y'all it's our midweek check in
In Episode 25: Celebration vs. Toleration I discuss how we allow those in our tribe to ruin our “moments” when they tolerate us instead of celebrate us. It can be so very hurtful. But as we learn to manage or expectations and set boundaries, we are then able to release the tolerators and invite in celebrators. Y'all like how I worded that?
It's WEDNESDAY and I just wanted to check in on this fine Idris Elba hump day
Welcome to our new segment entitled Waaaasss Happanen Wednesday
In this episode I discuss being in PERFECT alignment with the will of God for our lives. I personally have NEVER subscribed to the idea that things happen just because. I DO believe there are situations, places, people and other things God places in our path to help us fulfill the purpose he has for our lives. BUT, it is ultimately our choice whether we yield to these experiences. If you are remotely human you may question, "Why is this happening to me?", "What is my purpose in life? If you don't, then START! The only advice I can give to help you answer these questions is to be PERFECT alignment with Gods will for your life. NO I DID NOT SAY BE PERFECT! Being in perfect alignment means NOT focusing on your talent, or what you perceive to be the lack there of, BUT to focus on your heart...Life is NOT linear, and the sooner you accept that your path to a successful life may not look the way that you want it to be, the better. The goal is to get there! A lot to intake huh? Welp this is the point when you click on the episode and listen while we unpack this thing together...ok BYE! So last year I decided to revamp my existing perfume collection, only to realize that my 70 Bath and Body Work mists were a solid foundation but weren't solid enough to help me to give off "Rich Auntie" vibes in the fragrance department. In revamping, I was frantically all over the place spending hundreds of dollars in purchases. Truthfully I had no idea as to what I was doing, and I was just following the trends. 9 times out of 10 I ended up highly disappointed because I simply didn't know what I really liked. So I reached out to Misty of Perfume Philosophers Podcast cause she is a well rounded authority in all things fragrant, and I knew she could get me together with regards to cultivating my perfume collection. In this episode we discuss ALL things perfume including, blind buys, notes, perfume intensities, how unisex purchases can save you money and yes our opinions on the famed Ms. BACCARAT. Tune in and I am sure you'll come away with a better understanding of not only perfume, but an understanding of how embracing the perfume community is, and how quickly you can become a "FragHead".
