HOPE. Esther Kamaara was helping out at a children's home in Kenya and realized she didn't want to help these kids for one day but she wanted to make a different. This was the beginning of Star Kids Initiative. Star Kids Initiative is an initiative that focuses on alienating extreme poverty by providing access to quality education to children from urban slums in Nairobi, Kenya. It does so by offering scholarship and mentorship programs, according infrastructural support to partner schools as well as participating in education reform advocacy. Letshego's memoir of her late husband Gugulethu Zulu was one of those books for me. I knew after I finished the final page that I wanted to have her on my podcast. One of the quotes in her book is "If Not, Why Not". I later learned that this is the quote that prompted her to say yes to being a houseguest on the podcast. Letshego takes us on a journey of adventure, love, loss and her decision to choose life even after losing her husband.
