Jay Mayo steps up this week to teach us from Mark 10. He shows us how Jesus taught a way of leadership and influence that is intensely relational and grounded upon serving those around us. He also highlights two individuals in our fellowship who have modeled this way of leadership over the past 19 years: Tyler and Bailey Dodds. After Jay concludes his message, Tyler and Bailey share an important update with our body along with where they believe the Lord is leading them in this next season of life.

On the birthday of his wonderful, beloved, iconic late mother, Tammy Faye, Jay Bakker gives a very vulnerable and revealing talk about his personal history as a pastor, advocate, and son. Jay is true-to-form as his haphazardly human self, guiding the congregation through intimate stories from his past, focusing on the figures who most inspired and affected him and his deepest convictions throughout his unique life, and how sticking to your convictions can be costly. Jay lays out how this all brought him to his current overall perspective--which is, of course, critical and reactive as ever. Jay gets into some specific and revelatory Bakker family history. If you like this content, you may also enjoy a recent exclusive episode of Revolution Church Podcast, featuring a sermon by Jay's father--Jim Bakker--at Revolution Church, New York, in October 2006:https://shows.acast.com/revolution/ep... After Jay's genuine, heart-felt the talk, he and Caleb field questions and comments from the online congregation--which YOU can join on FaceBook Live, every Sunday at 11am PST:www.facebook.com/revolutionchurchmn Recorded on Sunday, March 7th 2021, in Seattle, Washington. Revolution is as DIY as it gets. We used to be a large, well-paid team, with our own nice big building. As addressed today, we do our best not to waiver on our convictions, and in our line of work, that can lead to massive loss of support. We are now a team of two living in Seattle, trying to get set up during the pandemic. Half of our team (Caleb) has been working for Revolution for over three years now, taking on more responsibilities over time, working solely as an unpaid volunteer. We are fueled by conviction and passion. Unfortunately, we do also exclusively rely on the generous tithing of our congregation and listeners for any form of income. We would love to finally get Caleb on as paid staff, upgrade our audio and video gear, and generally do more for you, and do it better than ever. Keep Yourself Warm: A Dating, Relationship, and Sex Podcast

In this episode, the gang talks about sex mates and the likelihood that we all fall in love with the wrong person at one point or another. After Jay extolls the virtues of owning a bidet in “I Did Something Weird Last Night” (12:22), the gang was inspired by the previous episode on soul mates to discuss whether or not sex mates exist (15:28) and whether or not great sex can keep an otherwise “meh” relationship going (23:36). In the second segment, they discuss why we often times fall in love with the wrong person (26:20). This is not a discussion on toxic relationships, or otherwise impossible relationships, but instead on how we just develop feelings for someone that could never lead into a relationship. This includes what putting them on a pedestal and falling for a close friend is like (32:09) and finally whether or not our lives are better for knowing these people, or would our lives be better if we remained strangers forever (36:37). Finally, they wrap things up with a fuck-marry-kill (43:06). This show is available on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or wherever else you listen to your podcasts. My dear friend Bob Verstege (in his early 60’s) shares his remarkable life story joining the church at age 14, serving a mission in Chicago, breaking off an engagement to a women knowing he is gay, finding his husband Jay (also a RM and a world renowned cardiologist) and spending 25 years together. Bob also shared the tender story of Jay dying from Alzheimer’s, caring for him all those years, being at his bedside during his passing and their close relationship with Heavenly Father. It’s a beautiful love story. After Jay died, Bob continued to feel impressions from Heavenly Father including to return to the Church where he is a member in good standing and serves as the Ward Clerk in his ward. Bob wanted to add a few comments below that he had run out of time to say. "Strength lies in differences, not in similarities." Stephen R. Covey I want listeners to know this is my journey and path I took, it isn't a path or an example that people should emulate or feel that I'm dictating to others. I appreciate and respect everyone's journey. Though I'm a big advocate for the Church and the blessings that come along with it, I do realize there's paths that are joyful, satisfying and spiritual without being a member. I'm grateful for anyone that receives love, joy and peace through other avenues. Another point I would like to make is when you listen to the podcast, I would have you focus on the teachings of Christ, because that is who I tried to emulate and the others who were involved tried to emulate Christ's teachings as well - we tried to show empathy, charity and love for each other. One of my favorite scriptures is 2 Nephi 32:3. Lastly, I brief recognition for some others; my former bishop in Linwood, Bishop Darrin Bird, a great servant of the Lord. The wonderful brothers and sisters of Fountain Hills and Linwood wards, who support and love me. Then a special appreciation for two cherished friends, Brother Jorgensen and Brother Dean. They became my first friends as I return to the church. Each of them loved, supported and encouraged me. Even though they had no stewardship over me, and they personally don't understand my story, they allowed me to share with them without their judgement. I look at them as an example of faithful members of the church who inspire me to do better, much love to them both. "Love is the security for which children weep, the yearning of youth, the adhesive that binds marriage, and the lubricant that prevents devastating friction in the home; it is the peace of old age, the sunlight of hope shining through death...Love, like faith, is a gift of God. It is also the most enduring and most powerful virtue." Gordon B. Hinckley Thank you Bob for sharing your journey. It brings honor to your good husband Jay and helps us better understand a loving Heavenly Father.

Ep #107 - What would happen to your family if you passed away suddenly? In today's epsiode, I sit down with Jay Gabrani, founder of Prepared Fathers, to discuss this exact question. After Jay's first child was born in 2005, he jumped into the world of real estate investing. Despite several challenges along the way, Jay built a multiple seven-figure real estate portfolio. That portfolio helped him take a multi-year sabbatical to deal with heartbreaking personal tragedy when his wife passed away in 2014. This experience lead Jay to reevaluate the purpose of his life while taking a multi year sabbatical. Before his wife passed away, Jay thought he was financially prepared. After going through the experience of being the executor of his wife's estate, he realized he wasn't. Today, Jay makes an impact raising his three children and empowering Fathers to secure their Family's Financial Future as the founder of Prepared Fathers. He achieves this through his one-on-one and group coaching programs and his daily podcast A Minute with Jay. Katie Couric has lived in the public eye since 1991, when she began co-hosting the Today Show on NBC. While she's built a career on her unflappable on-screen presence, she says that same journalistic rationality served her poorly when crisis hit closer to home. In 1998, her husband, John Paul "Jay" Monahan, died of colon cancer at 42. Katie says her reluctance to accept the inevitable conclusion of his diagnosis is something she regrets. "I really tried to not fall apart in front of Jay, and looking back on it, there's probably a lot of dishonesty about the whole thing," she says. "I think that sort of cockeyed optimism prevented me from ever really saying goodbye." After Jay's death, Katie parented their daughters alone until 2014, when she married her second husband, John Paul Molner. While her two husbands share a name, Katie says there’s a lot that differentiates the two marriages. "I'm in a different phase of my life," she told me. "The horizon isn't quite as far as it was when I married Jay." Katie turned 60 years old this year, and says it was more emotionally difficult than she expected. "Half my life is over. It's been a little a little depressing for me," she said. But, she admitted, you’d never know it from looking at her Instagram feed. "You can give people the impression that you're a fairly one-dimensional happy person," she says, "when the truth of the matter is it's much much more complicated than that."

This week, Mike welcomes political scientist Will Miller back to the show. Will and Mike open by discussing the testimony of Christine Blasey Ford and Brett Kavanaugh Thursday before the Senate Judiciary Committee. Included is the perspective of Mike's politically astute friend, Leah. While the Guys differ on whether Kavanaugh is the right person for the vacancy of the Court, they do agree on the credibility of Dr. Ford and her testimony. They also discuss what this means for future nomination battles and the willingness of individuals to even consider being nominated for the Court. Next is a discussion of the federal budget process, which is progressing surprisingly smoothly. While Mike and Will agree that the budget is largely inflated, they disagree on the causes and solutions. Mike advocates for increasing taxes to balance the books, while Will suggests something akin to zero-based budgeting would require agencies to justify the money they request in a more meaningful way. After Jay responds to some fairly intense criticism concerning his comments on last week's show, Ryan provides Will and Mike with their listener mail question this week. Ryan asks the Guys response to a recent Robert Reich opinion piece ( http://robertreich.org/post/177349093095 ) suggesting Congress or the Supreme Court could annul the totality of Trump's presidency if he's found of colluding with Russia to get elected. *Listener support helps make The Politics Guys possible*.
