EP 190 Retire in Rosarito, Mexico! How would you like to live on the ocean and enjoy the near perfect weather of San Diego, California? Most of us would, but not many of us could afford its beachfront living. Jym and Renee Varnadore found a way to live such a lifestyle on a budget. The couple moved to Playas de Rosarito, Mexico, a small city located on the ocean only 10 miles south of the US/Mexico border. Due to its proximity to San Diego, Rosarito enjoys a similar climate. And get this, the couple purchased an oceanfront condo in Rosarito for a fraction of what they would have paid in San Diego. Find out more about the Varnadore's budget conscious move to paradise on Episode 190 of Retire There with Gil & Gene. this is a conversation with Hugo Crosthwaite and Bread & Salt Curator Thomas DeMello from 2021 Born in Tijuana in 1971, Hugo Crosthwaite grew up in the coastal town of Rosarito, Baja California, 10 miles south of the international border. A graduate of San Diego State University in 1997 with a BA in Applied Arts and Sciences, Crosthwaite is a draftsman, often using pencil or charcoal, who focuses on the figure. He works in a linear fashion, allowing drawings to develop with great detail. All the work is created with improvisation; narratives developing as works are created.
In this midweek true crime documentary episode, Ky delves into the questionable and violent case of Ike Souzer, a young man with a history of escaping authorities and a troubling past. Ike, who was described as autistic and had a troubled childhood, first made headlines when he brutally stabbed his mother, Barbara Schuer Souzer, in their Garden Grove, California home. Despite being convicted of voluntary manslaughter, Ike's story doesn't end there. While awaiting trial in juvenile court, Ike attacked a corrections officer and escaped, only to be captured the next day. His repeated offenses, including attacking three correctional officers and making a shiv while in custody, apparently weren't enough to keep him behind bars. Judges repeatedly gave him lenient sentences, reducing felony charges to misdemeanors and releasing him early with just an ankle bracelet for monitoring.Despite being labeled as "extremely dangerous" and a "significant threat to public safety," Ike managed to escape again in April 2022 by removing his ankle bracelet. He was eventually found in a homeless encampment in Anaheim, California. In October 2023, he was convicted of making a shiv, but the judge still opted for a lenient sentence, citing the need for reintegration services over prison time. After his final escape to Rosarito, Mexico, and subsequent arrest by Mexican officials, Orange County District Attorney Todd Spitzer criticized the judges for their leniency, arguing that Ike had turned every opportunity for reform into another chance to break the law. As of now, Ike is back in custody, but his future remains uncertain. What do you think of the judges' decisions? Should Ike have been given more severe sentences? Suzan Haskins recently spent time in an area of Mexico that, she affirms, has been misrepresented by mainstream media for decades. Baja California, which includes cities such as Ensenada, Rosarito, and Tijuana, is, as far as she's concerned, a place where you can live a California lifestyle at half the price. The region is usually thought of as dangerous, lawless, poor and chaotic. That's the way it's usually portrayed on the news, at any rate. What Suzan found when she went there to explore was something completely different. “The average rent for a one-bedroom home in San Diego these days is more than $2,900,” Suzan writes in the May 2023 issue of International Living magazine. “The price to buy a single-family home hovers near $1 million. And that's not anywhere close to the beach. But in Playas de Tijuana, seven miles from the border crossing, you can find one- and two-bedroom apartments renting near the beach for as little as $500 to $1,000 a month. Tijuana is a city like any other, with green parks and upscale shopping malls, schools, churches, and a cornucopia of hospitals, clinics, dentists, and pharmacies... many conveniently located right at the border crossing.” Join podcast host, Jim Santos, as he meets Suzan Haskins and learns all about this overlooked section of northern Mexico. A place where cruise ships dock, the margaritas are cold, and the cost of living is so much more affordable that thousands of astute Americans choose to commute from Mexico to their jobs in San Diego. Upscale communities, empty beaches, and even vineyards and wineries…the real Baja California is nothing like the shock media portrays it. Settle in and enjoy Suzan's report on the most convenient and closest expat destination on International Living's beat. Dr. Vickers Joins To Discuss Cancer, Metabolism, Immune System Health, and the Gerson Therapy: A 1997 graduate of New York Chiropractic College, representing the face of the Gerson Therapy Worldwide, Dr. Patrick Vickers is featured in the epic documentary series, The Truth About Cancer: A Global Quest. Dr. Vickers' patient is also chronicled in the classic documentary, The Beautiful Truth.Nobel Peace Prize Winner, Dr. Albert Schweitzer, called Dr. Max Gerson, "The most eminent genius in medical history" as The Gerson Therapy has the most storied reputation, to date, for its ability to reverse advanced cancer and degenerative diseases. With seven movies chronicling Dr. Gerson's work, no other therapy has received such recognition on an international scale. Unfortunately, the Gerson Therapy remains the most censored therapy by governments, medical authorities and media outlets around the world as it poses an imminent threat to the conventional medical system.Personally trained by Dr. Gerson's family and one of the few people to have studied Dr. Gerson's handwritten files, Dr. Patrick Vickers continues to carry on Dr. Gerson's legacy through his premier, Advanced Gerson Clinic in Rosarito, Mexico as well as lecturing and interviewing on various platforms around the world on the indisputable, cellular science behind health, disease and the Gerson Therapy. We have single handedly destroyed our own bodies through diet, through what we're putting on our bodies and in our bodies. What we eat, whatever we're drinking, etc. I've been doing this 25 years and the average age coming into our clinic is 50 to 55. That is when disease typically sets in. Because the human body can only handle the onslaught of everything we do to it for decade after decade after decade, or right until we hit the fifth decade. 17:30 - We must begin to restore the human digestive tract. That's the first aspect of metabolism. So that's how you do it, you have to start by healing the gut. That's where the Gerson Therapy has reigned supreme. That's why eight movies chronicled our work. That picture you showed of Albert Schweitzer Nobel Peace Prize winner called Gerson the greatest genius in medical history, you know, so this is where it starts is by starting to restore metabolism. 23:20 - I'd like to address your question on what do we do about healthy fats. I mentioned how we heal the first aspect of human metabolism, how we restore metabolism, it starts in the gut 70% of your immune system. There's three aspects of metabolism, we have to restore to be able to cure patients. The next step is restoring the proper fats at the level of a cell membrane. So now you've healed the gut, you're properly able to break down and absorb nutrients into the bloodstream again. Now you have to get those nutrients and sugars into the cell and you need to get oxygen into the cell to...
