According to Amazon, Amazon's Lord of the Rings: The Power of the Rings is doing just fine. With millions of people watching "some" of "at least one episode." Whatever THAT means. The Amazon Lord of the Rings controversy continues with 22,000 comments being deleted on The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power trailer. Much of the Rings of Power trailer reaction out there is negative and very critical, but some think that fans are jumping to conclusions. The continued narrative of Tolkien fans vs Amazon probably won't calm down as more marketing materials, trailers, and sneak peeks are on the way. This series brings to screens for the very first time the heroic legends of the fabled Second Age of Middle-earth's history. This epic drama is set thousands of years before the events of J.R.R. Tolkien's "The Hobbit" and "The Lord of the Rings," and takes viewers back to an era in which great powers were forged, kingdoms rose to glory and fell to ruin, unlikely heroes were tested, hope hung by the finest of threads and the greatest villain that ever flowed from Tolkien's pen threatened to cover all the world in darkness. Beginning in a time of relative peace, the series follows an ensemble cast of characters, both familiar and new, as they confront the long-feared reemergence of evil to Middle-earth. From the darkest depths of the Misty Mountains to the majestic forests of the elf-capital of Lindon, to the breathtaking island kingdom of Númenor, to the furthest reaches of the map, these kingdoms and characters carve out legacies that live on long after they are gone. Games get canceled. It happens. But what effect does it have on developers who poured years of their life into the project when a big-budget game is canceled partway through development? Or, for that matter, when potentially good games launch to poor reception because of decisions made at a corporate level? We'll discuss this and more, including Blizzard losing three core people this month alone, the Celeste developers announcing a new game, and other community-requested topics. #gamingnews #videogamenews --- ABOUT THIS PODCAST --- Augmented Reality is a video game news & opinion podcast with a focus on deep industry analysis. We kick off our 20th pod in perfect harmony. After a short musical number and a quick catch up, we talk about the few flicks we’ve seen since last time (4:43) with a special emphasis on the undiscovered classic, Mr. Right (11:54). We explain David Lynch to everyone (23:31), talk TV (28:01), and the latest in entertainment news (38:44) — Bond songs, Indiana Jones directors, and more! We attempt to discuss trailers (57:24) before Skynet does everything in it’s power to stop us (1:00:52). But we regroup magnificently when Kelly tries, unsuccessfully as always, to stump Patrick in “Guess that Rotten Tomato Rating” (1:01:48). As always, shout outs and hidden gems are delivered (1:09:04) and as always, Kelly fails to deliver on his promise to discuss the upcoming Amazon Lord of the Rings series with Patrick. Lots of singing in this one. Thanks, as always, for listening. And please RSVP if you’d like to come with us to Point Break Live!
It’s the 2020 Oscar/1-Year Movies n Shit Podcast Anniversary Special!! We kick off this week’s pod with our pre-show Oscar predictions (4:00) and brief tangents on the nature and backlash of rating movies (8:20) before time-traveling - Kelly’s favorite - forward for our post-Oscar wrap-up (15:34). Non-Oscar talk kicks off (at 18:25) with a discussion of the shit we’ve seen since last time, a short and confusing TV recap (35:47), and notable entertainment news (39:51) including the death of Hollywood icon, Kirk Douglas, and unapologetic love of Hollywood icon, Nicolas Cage, before Patrick guesses the Rotten Tomato scores of various films chosen at random by Kelly (at 47:00). Our post-Oscar recap and reactions to the 92nd annual Academy Awards ceremony can be found at the 53:53 mark. Finally, in a move as bold as awarding an international film Best Picture of 2019, both Kelly and Patrick provide recommendations of hidden gems that neither of them have ever seen (1:10:48). Notable errors include Patrick’s assertion that The last Emperor took home the Best Picture Oscar in 1989, when the film actually won the prize in 1987, and Kelly failing to mention the upcoming and highly anticipated Amazon Lord of the Rings series. As always — please like, subscribe and rate us wherever you find our podcasts. And please call us with feedback or suggestions of shit you’d like to hear us talk about. Thanks for listening, everybody.

Happy Black History Month from the Plunge! Rachey’s joining us to celebrate Bernie Sanders’ 2020 campaign announcement and the return of a human with a pulse to the multi-year horse race circus that we ritually subject ourselves to. We go deep on the Bernie bro myths, see how he stacks up to his competitors, and evaluate how the internet has collectively lost it a full year and a half away from the election. In the pop culture corner, we discuss the preposterous boomer fantasy Yesterday, Friday night’s foolish conservative sitcom power hour on Fox, and former White House press secretary Sean Spicer’s new commentator gig on Extra. We close out with the latest updates from the Amazon Lord of the Rings series’ writers’ room, which is literally professionally guarded and hermetically sealed from the outside world by a fingerprint scanner.
